one of the most insidious things about isreal that i legitimately cannot stand is that it tries to frame its genocide against the palestinians as a kind of religious war between jews and muslims. completely ignoring that palestinians can be and ARE christians and jewish. completely ignoring that isreal really only recognizes white (often ashkenazi) jews as actual jews, i.e. sterilizing ethiopian jews, treating mizrahi jews poorly, taking very poor care of holocaust survivors. it preys on the fact that many of us in the west donā€™t really know anything about mena, islam or judaism. and iā€™ll admit, prior to oct. 7 i had no idea the kind of persecution that palestinians faced from isreal, and believed that it was an equally shared conflict. and thatā€™s easy to believe and ā€œsolveā€ from our perspective, to just say, ā€˜oh two state solutionā€™ or ā€˜one state solution!ā€™. to which isreal can say, ā€˜well of course weā€™d love to do that but these damn arabs are sooo evil we just canā€™t :(ā€œ. and it is so twisted to me that isreal uses the real life antisemitism that jewish people worldwide face as an excuse for it existing and for its war crimes. all while simultaneously preying on islamophobia as fuel to justify said war crimes.
long story short, we as average people, ESPECIALLY in the west need to inform ourselves, we need to confront our biases concerning mena, muslims and jews. we need to dismantle the propaganda that isreal and its allies have been feeding us for years. information is so so so important and we need to show radical support and empathy for each other and palestine at this time. keep boycotting, keep protesting, keep doing what you can.
from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

an ex-zionist jewish man recently went a bit viral on tiktok for sharing exactly how he sees zionism tie israel to the jewish identity and his personal experience with breaking away from it - I think itā€™s a really great watch.
He also made a follow up talking specifically about how he learned to humanise Palestinians, and a really integral part of it was his school, which would often bring in Palestinian speakers whoā€™d share their perspective (hereā€™s a link to it).

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan PappƩ (2006, p. 72)
The rhetoric from Israel and their defenders really hasn't changed one bit, has it? Months and months of terrorizing Palestinian villages, and the moment they retaliate, it must be because the Arabs are violent Nazis set to exterminate the oh-so-peaceful Zionist settlers for no other reason than them being Jewish
And what were the Zionists settlers - with Ben-Gurion's explicit approval - doing at the time?
Tumblr media
PappƩ (2006, p. 58)
Similarly, in the villages:
Tumblr media
PappƩ (2006, p. 57)
Still the same playbook, 75+ years later...
Also, it's important to understand that these violent attacks against Palestinian cities and villages - and there were many more in the winter of 47/48 than the examples included here - were part of a larger, deliberate operation meant to 'drive out' (i.e. ethnically cleanse) the Native population of Palestine. It didn't matter if the Palestinians were just quietly living their life in the countryside; if they were not Jewish, they would had to go. And if the Zionists could not find a pretext for retaliation, they would make one.
In the aftermath of the UN partition, this operation of ethnic cleansing - without 'pretext' - was not only openly discussed, but approved of, by Ben-Gurion and the rest of the Zionist leadership:
Tumblr media
PappƩ (2006, p. 64)
What we're seeing today in Gaza - with the collective punishment of 2 million Palestinians - is the continuation of this very same Zionist program of ethnic cleansing that Israel was founded on.

Hereā€™s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but Iā€™d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angelesā€™s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrianā€™s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)
Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israelā€™s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. Itā€™s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. Iā€™m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!
You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):
Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.
Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.
If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(
If you donā€™t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. Itā€™s easy to do with any spare time youā€™re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!
If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israelā€™s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.
He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.
If youā€™ve never participated in a political performance before nowā€™s a great chance, any little bit counts! I appreciate any time or effort you take to read this, support my friends, and work towards a free Palestine! ā™„ļøšŸ‡µšŸ‡ø

I honestly donā€™t post about any sports all that often. But this Super Bowl compelled me to write this.
Now, right out the gate I will tell you I am a KC Chiefs fan. I was born one. I am a third-generation fan, going back to my grandpa who picked them at 19 when they were a godawful team and barely televised through my momā€™s childhood, because only the good teams were televised then ā€” so if they could watch them, it was to watch them get POUNDED.
I got to watch them win a Super Bowl after a 50 year drought. It was an exhilarating feeling, especially since I was constantly picked on at school by a classmate because of my team (he would go out of his way to harass me whenever his team ā€” Ravens, btw ā€” beat the Chiefs. And he was blissfully quiet the whole day after).
I got to see them win another one two years ago, in the affectionately nicknamed Kelce Bowl because of the Kelce brothers playing against each other. That was a fun year.
And another one after that.
Am I all that cut up about them losing this year?
No. I am not. Because I know itā€™s just a game. The dudebros need to chill out fr.
But I also know that this yearā€¦it wasnā€™t quite just a game, either. Thereā€™s other forces at play.
I honestly had no idea that some of the major Chiefs players supported trump until today. Just before I started writing this, in fact. I didnā€™t know trump wanted them to win either.
There was a bad taste in my mouth when I found that out.
I donā€™t consider myself to be a fanatic fan. But I am a proud fan. Someone once called me a bandwagon and I got offended.
But. But.
I am not a fan of this. Of the support and cozying up to of fascism, racism, queerphobia, you name it. It boggles my mind too because there are Black players on the Chiefs, there are Black players who CARRY the NFLā€™s legacy on their backs, and to support the trump administration is to take away their support.
You know what I am a fan of?
The political message of Kendrick Lamarā€™s halftime show.
I have never listened to any of Kendrickā€™s discography. Iā€™ve never really been all that into hip hop or rap (my whiteness is showing I know).
Honestly, while I was watching, a lot of what was going on flew over my head. And I also had a hard time hearing the lyrics šŸ«£ again, not used to this genre of music šŸ˜…
But thatā€™s what I thank tumblr for. Tumblr always has a way of bringing the unknown into the spotlight, and expanding my own knowledge on it.
I am very much not knowledgeable on the Black history surrounding Kendrickā€™s performance. But looking back, with a fresh set of eyes, what I do know and have put in effort to learn starts to be clear.
And I think it was genius. I think Kendrick Lamarā€™s performance is what saved this Super Bowl for me because I am vastly disappointed in my team right now, and still would have been even if they won.
I do not begrudge the Eagles their win. After all, this was a rematch šŸ˜œ Only fair you have your time to shine.
But in all seriousness, I think I prefer a loss to a win simply because I would not be able to enjoy that win knowing what I do now.
Besides. if it comes with the bonus of trumpā€™s night being ruined? having to live with spending TAXPAYER MONEY (my money!!) to go and watch the game only to leave halfway through because Kendrick called him out? good. I can handle the sidelong taunts about the Chiefs and their bad decisions. I am mature enough to see that.
I am mature enough to see that an Eagles win, packed with Kendrick Lamar ripping the right a new one, is a win for us all ā€” Chiefs fans included.
The next four years will be tough. But with such a spectacular performance? The trans flag? The Palestine and Sudan flag? Everything?
I think we have what we need to keep fighting. Kendrick, Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, all of these artists lending their voices to support those who will be grievously impacted by what comes next is so important, especially at events like the Grammies and the Super Bowl. It shows that people care.
It shows that we can always care.
Itā€™s just a game, yeah. But now itā€™s so much more.

The issue is not racism or Zionism or anything like that, the issue is that you're posting all this political discourse on a poetry blog. People follow blogs that post a certain type of content and if the blog drastically changes the type of content it posts, a lot of people are gonna leave, regardless of who is being defended, because it's not the type of content they're looking for. Itā€™s just the name of the game called social media. I can see that youā€™re passionate and your heart is breaking for ones who are suffering, but Iā€™d like to think that not everyone is racist, not everyone is apathetic, and not everyone has to be violent (verbally, physically, or otherwise) to make a point or be validated. But perhaps, Iā€™m an idealist.
youā€™re right. iā€™m a mere poetry blog so iā€™m obviously not a real person. iā€™m a poetry blog so i canā€™t spread awareness. if this is the not the type of ā€œcontentā€ theyā€™re looking for, then iā€™m happy that they left. the number followers i have has never been my concern. i have been posting poetry about all types of cultures ever since i created this blog. i have also been spreading arabic poetry for 3 years now. it has always been political. it has always been about culture and identity. people like concepts, but when they see real incidents happening in front of them, they make excuses: ā€œthis is not the type of content i signed up for, i come here for escapism and now youā€™e flooding my feed with politics,ā€ and you know what? sure, i understand. i have been quiet myself this past week because i felt so helpless and devastated. i even deactivated social media because i was hurting so much. but if iā€™m not acknowledging these people, who will? iā€™m not a bot. iā€™m a human being. i have a platform and i have a voice. if i choose to be silent in times like these, then i simply donā€™t deserve this platform.
