one of the most insidious things about isreal that i legitimately cannot stand is that it tries to frame its genocide against the palestinians as a kind of religious war between jews and muslims. completely ignoring that palestinians can be and ARE christians and jewish. completely ignoring that isreal really only recognizes white (often ashkenazi) jews as actual jews, i.e. sterilizing ethiopian jews, treating mizrahi jews poorly, taking very poor care of holocaust survivors. it preys on the fact that many of us in the west don’t really know anything about mena, islam or judaism. and i’ll admit, prior to oct. 7 i had no idea the kind of persecution that palestinians faced from isreal, and believed that it was an equally shared conflict. and that’s easy to believe and “solve” from our perspective, to just say, ‘oh two state solution’ or ‘one state solution!’. to which isreal can say, ‘well of course we’d love to do that but these damn arabs are sooo evil we just can’t :(“. and it is so twisted to me that isreal uses the real life antisemitism that jewish people worldwide face as an excuse for it existing and for its war crimes. all while simultaneously preying on islamophobia as fuel to justify said war crimes.
long story short, we as average people, ESPECIALLY in the west need to inform ourselves, we need to confront our biases concerning mena, muslims and jews. we need to dismantle the propaganda that isreal and its allies have been feeding us for years. information is so so so important and we need to show radical support and empathy for each other and palestine at this time. keep boycotting, keep protesting, keep doing what you can.
from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

an ex-zionist jewish man recently went a bit viral on tiktok for sharing exactly how he sees zionism tie israel to the jewish identity and his personal experience with breaking away from it - I think it’s a really great watch.
He also made a follow up talking specifically about how he learned to humanise Palestinians, and a really integral part of it was his school, which would often bring in Palestinian speakers who’d share their perspective (here’s a link to it).

there has been more moments than i can count in the past seven months where i felt destroyed by all the death and carnage i've seen due to the colonialism and imperialism of the world. but there was something in particular about hind's death that made me think the world would stop turning bc how could anything continue given how gruesome and inhumane her death was? and yet, the world did not stop. and i thought we were once again left to remember her story only in our minds as she became another number, as her murderers went on killing unpunished, and as her mother grieved with rage when all she wanted was to keep her daughter warm and as safe as she could manage in this man-made hell on earth.
however, hind, a girl who only got to experience her kindergarten graduation, is now being immortalized in universities across the nation. her story did resonate to the masses and we will not let her be forgotten nor forgive those complicit in her death. real justice would be having hind alive, but these students are showing that they will stop the world and burn the status quo it upholds to the ground if it means her people can truly be liberated.

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan Pappé (2006, p. 72)
The rhetoric from Israel and their defenders really hasn't changed one bit, has it? Months and months of terrorizing Palestinian villages, and the moment they retaliate, it must be because the Arabs are violent Nazis set to exterminate the oh-so-peaceful Zionist settlers for no other reason than them being Jewish
And what were the Zionists settlers - with Ben-Gurion's explicit approval - doing at the time?
Tumblr media
Pappé (2006, p. 58)
Similarly, in the villages:
Tumblr media
Pappé (2006, p. 57)
Still the same playbook, 75+ years later...
Also, it's important to understand that these violent attacks against Palestinian cities and villages - and there were many more in the winter of 47/48 than the examples included here - were part of a larger, deliberate operation meant to 'drive out' (i.e. ethnically cleanse) the Native population of Palestine. It didn't matter if the Palestinians were just quietly living their life in the countryside; if they were not Jewish, they would had to go. And if the Zionists could not find a pretext for retaliation, they would make one.
In the aftermath of the UN partition, this operation of ethnic cleansing - without 'pretext' - was not only openly discussed, but approved of, by Ben-Gurion and the rest of the Zionist leadership:
Tumblr media
Pappé (2006, p. 64)
What we're seeing today in Gaza - with the collective punishment of 2 million Palestinians - is the continuation of this very same Zionist program of ethnic cleansing that Israel was founded on.

Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)
Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!
You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):
Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.
Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.
If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(
If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!
If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.
He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.
If you’ve never participated in a political performance before now’s a great chance, any little bit counts! I appreciate any time or effort you take to read this, support my friends, and work towards a free Palestine! ♥️🇵🇸

LIES: Palestine is murdering civilians.
TRUTH: Palestine is expelling occupiers.
LIES: Palestine is attacking Israel.
TRUTH: Palestine is standing upon its rights in its own lands.
LIES: Hamas is giving Israel reasons to attack them.
TRUTH: Israel has already been attacking Palestinians without a reason for years. Every resistance counts and weakens Israel.
LIES: Israel is the victim.
TRUTH: Israel is suffering for its sins for the innocent children they have killed.

The issue is not racism or Zionism or anything like that, the issue is that you're posting all this political discourse on a poetry blog. People follow blogs that post a certain type of content and if the blog drastically changes the type of content it posts, a lot of people are gonna leave, regardless of who is being defended, because it's not the type of content they're looking for. It’s just the name of the game called social media. I can see that you’re passionate and your heart is breaking for ones who are suffering, but I’d like to think that not everyone is racist, not everyone is apathetic, and not everyone has to be violent (verbally, physically, or otherwise) to make a point or be validated. But perhaps, I’m an idealist.
you’re right. i’m a mere poetry blog so i’m obviously not a real person. i’m a poetry blog so i can’t spread awareness. if this is the not the type of “content” they’re looking for, then i’m happy that they left. the number followers i have has never been my concern. i have been posting poetry about all types of cultures ever since i created this blog. i have also been spreading arabic poetry for 3 years now. it has always been political. it has always been about culture and identity. people like concepts, but when they see real incidents happening in front of them, they make excuses: “this is not the type of content i signed up for, i come here for escapism and now you’e flooding my feed with politics,” and you know what? sure, i understand. i have been quiet myself this past week because i felt so helpless and devastated. i even deactivated social media because i was hurting so much. but if i’m not acknowledging these people, who will? i’m not a bot. i’m a human being. i have a platform and i have a voice. if i choose to be silent in times like these, then i simply don’t deserve this platform.

Don't forget the reason the U.S. is supporting Israel's genocide of Palestine - hell, 90% of the reason they ever get involved into something in the Middle East is for ulterior purposes regarding oil.
