FRCS Section 2 Exam: General Surgery: The Ultimate Guide to Beating the FirstĀ Go
Tumblr media
General Surgery, FRCS Section 2 Exam: Top 5 Tips for First Candidates for the FRCS Section 2 General Surgery Exam frequently wonder what course of preparation is best for them to follow in order to succeed. Given that passing the FRCS Section 2 exam is a significant step towards becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, here are some pointers to help you succeed on your first try.
FRCS Section 2 General SurgeryĀ Exam
The clinical component, known as FRCS Section 2, consists of a number of meticulously planned and organised scenario-based assessments. Pre-selected global host centres will conduct the Section 2 exams. Clinical and oral examinations covering every facet of general surgery will make up the format. This will cover the pertinent facets of pathology, anatomy, and physiology as well as research methods, evidence levels, and statistical analysis. The examā€™s main goal is to assess candidatesā€™ knowledge, abilities, and competences in order to determine whether or not they are prepared for advanced surgical practice.
FRCS Section 2 General Surgery Exam; 5 Tips that can make a difference
Consistent Practice
For the FRCS Section 2 exam, regular practice is necessary for success. Spend a lot of time honing your surgical procedures, communication skills, and clinical scenarios. When practicing, think about working with a study partner to accurately replicate exam settings.
Choose High-Quality Learning Resources
Choose dependable study resources to enhance your readiness. Seek advice from reliable sources. High-quality resources will improve your comprehension of fundamental surgical concepts and offer thorough covering of exam subjects.
Take Guidance from Experts
Professionals that have passed the FRCS exam before can offer you the correct advice. Seek advice and assistance from seasoned mentors. They can assist you in getting a clear picture of where you are at and what adjustments you need to make to your preparation.
Effective Revision Strategies
Make sure you have a well-organized study schedule for the weeks preceding the test. Pay close attention to reviewing important surgical techniques, guidelines, and clinical ideas. Revision is necessary to improve your knowledge and abilities, so keep that in mind. Make sure you succeed by carefully editing.
Maintain Calm and Confidence
Have a composed attitude when you study for the test. To maximise your performance on the day of the FRCS exam, make sure you receive enough sleep. Donā€™t let past experiences or errors consume you as you approach each station with assurance. To get the most out of the exam, maintain your composure and focus.Ā  Ā  Our team of specialists can provide you with the required guidance and support if youā€™re a surgeon hoping to improve your surgical skills.

The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge
Welcome to another year of the Fanfic Reading Challenge (FRC)!
I won't bore you with the history of the challenge, this year, but I will welcome you to check out past posts that do explain some of it, as well as include a brief overview of what, exactly, this challenge is, though it does change year to year. (Essentially you read fics to complete goals and win bragging points and an artsy badge.)
This year is especially different, as I had the extreme pleasure of having @noxsoulmate as a partner in crime in keeping me hostage on track to completing this year's FRC. Another valued member of the mod team is @jandjsalmon and speaks for all of us if you need questions answered!
As for the challenge....
This is, indeed, a challenge. Of course.
First of all... you must obviously read fanfiction. As if you don't already!
You also need to download and make your own copy of the spreadsheet, which can be found here, as well as below in the important links section.
To participate in the challenge, you read fics that match the tasks in the challenge. An example of a task can be: "read a fic with a title containing the word purple in it." Should be easy! Of course, there are harder ones.
Which is why there are different modes of challenge to the FRC. These are as follows:
Participation (Complete 1 task)
Regular Mode (Complete 80 tasks)
Hard Mode (Complete 150 tasks)
Extreme Mode (Complete 220 tasks)
Complete (Complete 250 tasks)
The challenge lasts from January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2025.
There are badges that go with the modes completed, and even a secret 6th badge that will be fairly obvious if you look at the spreadsheet! Doesn't mean it'll be easy to complete though. *smirks* (Blame Noxy)
Most important of all: this challenge operates on the honour system. We don't check your work, or your reading logs (see below), so I mean, I guess if you want to be slippery with the rules, you do you, and that's on your conscience, but honestly it's so much fun to see how much you can get done by following the letter of the law/tasks! You can be slippery even with following the tasks fully. It's great fun. ;D
I think that's enough for an intro, really, maybe too much.
Tumblr media
Important Links and Reading Logs/Trackers
As there is a component of the FRC that includes tracking numbers of words read, most of us use a reading log/tracker to keep count of how many fics we read, including data such as words, of course, chapters, month completed, ship, author, title, fandom, link to the fic, and such. It's a great place to mark what fics you want to read in the future as well!
This year we have FOUR trackers on offer, quite different from one another, so take a look, play around with them and check out their "intros", and choose according to what you think will work best for you!
Fic Tracking Sheets
Juulna's 2025 Reading Log
Noxy's 2025 Reading Log
2025 Jandy's Fic Tracker
Taru's Fic Tracker 2025
Discord
We have a blast on Discord. From general chatter to sharing pet pics to being there for each other during the tough times to forming lasting friendships and making friendships youā€™d never make in a ship- or fandom-specific Discord, to asking for help ā€˜rolling the diceā€™ (pick a number between 1-10!) to choose the next fic to read, to finding some of the really challenging task fills in fandoms people might not have ever read but are willing to try, or finding fandoms someone has never read and is very tentative about stepping out of their box, but theyā€™re being 100% supported and know they donā€™t need to complete the fic for it to count for the task, stepping out of their comfort zoneā€¦ weā€™ve formed a very odd group of, if not friends, then companions (but there are definite friendships that have formed!! Just ask the people who have started watching NHL and NFL together in our off topic channel!).
In any case, our Discord is not necessary, but it is a worthy and tactical element to completing many of the tasks of this challenge. šŸ’™
And.... without further ado....!
Tumblr media
The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge! (link)
There is an info/rules page as the first sheet on the spreadsheet that should fill in any further questions you have. It also has more contact info than just this page if you have any further questions and perhaps need a more immediate answer for your needs.
*Occasionally you will run into something that looks like an error, and it may in fact be one! Let us know if you see it. It's hard not to make a mistake on as large a spreadsheet as this.*
Please, first of all, have fun and just read fanfiction that you enjoy! I (Juulna) did that last year and didn't even come close to completing the entire challenge, and I still had a blast because I was enjoying what I was reading and rereading. Others took the challenge right to the completed end. Others forgot about it halfway through but still had fun, and some even went back and filled in the sheet for a really good showing! The challenge is what you make of it, what you want from it. So... just have fun. Read fic. Smile. Enjoy. :)
Second of all... well, we would love if you signal boost this post!!!!
Third of all, we do have our pinned post that includes a link to this page and that will include a link to our Discord and all our trackers as well, including past links for memento and informative purposes.
Thank you, and a blessed 2025 to all!

hello. I'm new to tumblr and i want to follow epic mickey or mickey mouse blogs in general, can you maybe recommend me a couple blogs?
Hi! Sure. Well, these are some of the blogs where you will get to know more about Mickey Mouse, his family and friends who mostly appear in comics: @lordspectrus , @dalia1784 , @memelordotherblog , @okaystoptellingmetomakeanaccount , @disneyweirdness ,
@skullsemi , @felis-rach , @topidarkenblog, @frc-ambaradan ,
@mice-ducks-and-blots and others. Of course, my blog also counts, although I'm more into Donald Duck and the Duckverse, but I don't neglect the other characters with their comic book universes either.
If you want to read more Mickey Mouse comics, here you go:
I hope I helped you. If you need anything, feel free to ask. I wish you a pleasant day. :D

ghost!chorus- Venetia reacts to (your choice of) CH39 intro with Felix crying and Ollie comforting him; CH42 with Felix and Farleigh and Felix and Lucia; or CH44 Felix tells the kids about Luciaā€™s affair? tysm!!!
OKAY so these sorta got mushed together with a general uhā€¦ Ghost!Vee perspective, but itā€™s fun so letā€™s go~
Perhaps it was, well, being dead, but with hindsightā€¦ It was honestly amazing that it had taken Felix this long to find out. Oh, yeah, he and Lucia had been spiraling slowly towards divorce before they were even married, but it was so obviousā€¦ Or maybe it was just that walls didn't mean much to her any more, and Venetia'd wandered into Farleigh's room the first night he'd shown up. Paying her cousin a visit had led to way too much information, thank you very much, and sheā€™d been giving the little shit a wide berth ever since. She hadnā€™t cottoned on while she was alive, at least, because if she hadā€¦ But there was no point in being vindictive. Sheā€™d tear Farleigh a new one when he shuffled off the mortal coil and showed up here.
For the time being, it was initially far more fun to hang around Felix. It was what she normally did, when she was focused on the living. He'd been crying a lot, when she'd first crossed over. It had only seemed fair to comfort him; mum and dad were preoccupied with spectral dinners and parties and hobnobbing with Cattons Long Past. He was all by himself now, he needed her in the same way heā€™d needed her after he overdosed- it wasnā€™t Venetiaā€™s fault that he couldnā€™t sense her. Sheā€™d sat beside him, pretending to stroke his hair and ignoring the way her fingers slipped through him as if he was liquid. Thicker than air but impossible to get a grip on. Sheā€™d read, somewhere, that you canā€™t actually feel wetness, that it was a weird collaborative illusion courtesy of the senses, but she didnā€™t have a physical body any more, so... What did it matter? Felix was distinctly soggy, and his moping had been starting to verge on boring.
Sheā€™d been a hair off of leaving him to it- maybe sheā€™d hold out til after Christmas, maybe not- when things had taken a turn for the interesting. Felix had stopped crying, distracted by his phone, and what do you know? Vee had peered over his shoulder as soon as she noticed the change in him, from morose to giggly, and surprise! Her brother was texting incoherent, mushy messages to Oliver fucking Quick, squirming as he waited for a reply like a tween with a crush. Heart emojis and I love you, practically kicking his feet and twirling his hair. Oliver, returning? There wasnā€™t any point in wondering how the fuck heā€™d resurfaced; from her current position, it seemed inevitable. That summer had changed them all, and Oliver had been the catalyst. Of course heā€™d pop up again when everything had gone to shit. He could probably sense it, like a shark. At least, given her spectral condition, she wasnā€™t going to be their collateral damage any more; besides, she had to admit it was fun. It was basically a soap opera, after all, Venetia an intangible witness to her idiot brother happily smashing his life to bits.Ā
She'd even been watching them as they fumbled about. It was highly unimpressive, if she was honest, they kissed like they were trying to lick each otherā€™s ears from the inside, but at least they were having fun. Yet it also showed that Oliver had changed. He wasnā€™t posturing the way he had with her; heā€™d had the audacity to grow up. Venetia had been expectingā€¦ Wellā€¦ Ollie. The Oliver whoā€™d sidled down those stairs towards her, as suave as a teenage boy in a borrowed suit could be. Heā€™d tasted her blood, and sheā€™d gotten off mostly on the taboo and how public it was, but it had been stupid to think he could be anything other than Felixā€™s property. He ought to have FRC written on the sole of his foot, like Woody in Toy Story, it was so blatant. This small, sensible man in the boring clothes was nothing much to look at, but he was still so devoted to her brother that it verged on pathetic. It would have been so pitiable, if Felix hadnā€™t gone off the deep end and kept on making increasingly poor decisions.Ā
Horribly, though, she had to admit that they seemed happy. It was fucking annoying, watching Felix fall in love as if he were some beleagured Disney princess rather than an adult man with a wife and childrenā€¦ But his wife wasnā€™t faithful, and sheā€™d heard the pain in his sobs as he realized that his children may not be fully his. Venetia couldnā€™t have waited with baited breath- she didnā€™t need to breathe, after all, although she mimicked it reflexively- but sheā€™d been wound so tight just watching. Waiting for Oliver to reveal his snakey little plan, to tell Felix to leave them, be with him, that the kids didnā€™t matterā€¦Ā
Until he didnā€™t.Ā
What was his plan?Ā
Venetia wasnā€™t sure, but she stayed close, trying to piece it together. Oliver was consistent, sheā€™d give him that, but all of his talk about doing it right for the kids just didnā€™t seemā€¦ Like him. He was a liar, he had to lie, but what was the angle?Ā
It hurt to consider that there might not be one.Ā
It had hurt to hear his confession, that heā€™d responded to her dangling herself like bait because of Felix and her motherā€™s casual cruelty. Venetia had already known it, of course, but that didnā€™t mean it didnā€™t sting; so much so that sheā€™d tried her best to appear before the both of them that evening as they tangled up in each other, vengeful and pointing, but had given up when Harriet cockblocked them far more effectively.Ā
It also hurt to look at them. The youth returning to their faces, despite the deeper creases around eyes and mouth. They hadnā€™t aged poorly, not at all, but it was bitter to see her brother grow younger. Sheā€™d be young forever, but nobody she truly cared about could appreciate it. It was bitter to think that Felix would grow old with someone, be in love and so sickening, and theyā€™d show up here one day having shown her everything sheā€™d never been able to find. Theyā€™d found extra reserves of life, hidden within how grossly soppy they were, and it felt like every slice of birthday cake sheā€™d politely refused.Ā
The real Felix was back after a hiatus, back to devouring life by the fistful, and Venetia had watched him but never been brave enough to follow his example and gorge herself.Ā
Yet sheā€™d watched. Waited. Hovered in the background, watching Oliver Quick hold her brother and comfort him- her job- and saw the looks they exchanged and heard the quiet conversations. Sat in the window seat while Felix and Oliver made muffled, animal sounds on the sofa bed. Mostly Venetia wondered if she ought to justā€¦ Go to where the others were. Slide away from the physical world into the endless summer of Saltburn After, join all of those accumulated souls in the whirl of parties and petty squabbling.
But she just wanted to be sure. Be there. Be part of it. She lurked around with Farleigh as he muttered and coughed in the cold, waiting for Felix to notice him. A shame that he didnā€™t notice her; sheā€™d done her best to berate him, tried to lob a shoe at his head, but it was hard to keep up the energy when your audience didnā€™t react and your missiles didnā€™t connectā€¦ Then Felix was, as ever, about as capable of holding a grudge as a goldfish was at algebra. Sheā€™d tried to hold her nieces and nephew as Felix delivered the news of Luā€™s bad behavior as deftly as a boot to the crotch, but it had been an exercise in frustration. She couldnā€™t stand passing through people; it was too much of a reminder of what she was, but she let her fingers ghost through Ruā€™s curls and tried to feel love at him.Ā
Sheā€™d seen the look on Oliverā€™s face when Lu confronted him. Blank, devoid of emotion, and oddly enoughā€¦ That had helped her turn a mental corner. Set it into place.
Oliver was telling the truth. He didnā€™t lie these days, but honesty could be just as caustic.Ā
She sat, heavily, on the blue bed, watching them. Her brother was between Oliverā€™s legs, but that was hardly impressive. He sounded like a posh bulldog, panting away, and they hadnā€™t even gotten their boxers off yet. Idiots. They couldnā€™t even fuck tastefully, and she was trying to be maudlin.Ā
ā€œOh, fuck off.ā€Ā
Felix had shoved his stupid foot through her stomach, and that was- frankly- more than enough for Venetia. Sheā€™d come back tomorrow.Ā
ā€œJust you wait, Felix Catton. Once you get here, itā€™s over for you.ā€Ā Ā Ā

There's also a giant overlap on our team - almost all the senior members are in theatre as well.
After making my post about the girl I met at the competition I thought maybe I should stumble onto robotics tumblr, and have immediately come to the conclusion that all robotics teams are wacky. It's a universal experience.

2024 FRC - May šŸ‰
Hello dear friends. May is always busy at my house, but this year was even more so because my Bethy turned 18 years old and graduated from high school on the same day (she looked like a princess!) And of course, her final rugby season was another success. Bethy added a fourth Provincials title to her name. Second Back-To-Back win of the year. It's hard to believe she's all done with school and school sports.
Tumblr media
Anyway - Iā€™m nearly done theĀ @fanfic-reading-challengeĀ  so now itā€™s just picking off the really big fandom/ship/numbers tasks. If you have a fic from a random fandom that you think Iā€™d like - let me know!
Tumblr media
As for my monthly recs for you - I reread several old favourites this month whilst waiting for my WIPs to update. I hope you enjoy them.
In the night, I dream of woe so true by @sebikitcat (Wenvier - 7/7 E) - I always love a dreamwalking between soulmates trope and this one is a forever favourite.
The Soul of Woe by my girl Agmo (Wenvier - 6/6 T) - Soulmates! A retelling of Wednesday Season 1 - if she found out her soulmate was tortured artist Xavier Thorpe right from the beginning.
Skin-deep as the Soul by @ozmathegreatand (Wenvier - 5/5 T) - More soulmates! But this time it's post canon. I love soulmarks and this one is extra special.
I hope youā€™re all doing well.
Happy Pride!ā¤ļøšŸ§”šŸ’›šŸ’ššŸ’™šŸ’œšŸ–¤

thereā€™s this guy in the FRC robotics sphere that iā€™ve looked up to for like seven years because he literally wrote the book on graduate level control theory for high schoolers. unfortunately i never got that far in it (after all, the average person only understands PID and integral windup. and motion profiling of course). but i recently rejoined the discord server and my god i can actually have conversations with him because we both work for huge evil engineering companies. this is so cool

FRCS General Surgery Section 2 Exam: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
For prospective surgeons hoping to progress in their careers in the UK, passing the General Surgery Section 2 Exam of the FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) is a significant milestone. This demanding examination measures a candidateā€™s clinical acumen, knowledge, and decision-making skills related to general surgery. It is essential for success to comprehend the format and study techniques for this test.
Structure of theĀ Exam
The multiple-choice questions on the FRC Section 2 exam are intended to evaluate distinct skill sets. These stations cover surgical principles, data interpretation, communication skills, and clinical scenarios. Candidates go through a number of stations in succession, each with a different set of tasks that put their knowledge and method of patient care to the test.
Clinical Scenarios
Clinical scenarios, in which candidates interact with simulated patients or clinical cases, comprise one component of the programme. They must exhibit thorough history-taking abilities, clinical examination mastery, and quick differential diagnosis formulation. In these scenarios, examiners evaluate applicantsā€™ clinical reasoning, diagnostic abilities, and patient management strategies.
Communication Skills
Communication skills are tested at a different station. Applicants converse with patients or actors playing particular clinical situations. Important elements of this evaluation include the ability to communicate effectively, empathise, and clearly and compassionately present difficult medical information.
Data Interpretation
There can be stations on the test that evaluate your ability to understand data. A range of clinical data, such as imaging scans, research publications, and test findings, are given to candidates. In order to make judgements or suggestions that are supported by evidence, they must evaluate and understand this data.
Surgical Principles
At surgical principles-focused stations, candidates may be tested on their understanding of surgical procedures, preoperative evaluations, perioperative care, and problem-solving strategies.
Preparation Strategies
A comprehensive preparation strategy is needed for the FRCS General Surgery Section 2 Exam. It is crucial to do a thorough analysis of key surgical textbooks, guidelines, and journals. In order to improve their clinical and communication abilities, candidates should participate in frequent practice sessions, simulated scenarios, and mock tests.
To further enhance preparedness, enlisting in surgical workshops, revision courses, and mentorship from seasoned surgeons might be undertaken. Success requires effective time management and familiarity with the exam style through practice simulations.

do you have any advice on how to price comms in flight rising? I think i'm underpricing a lot right now
Oh boy, long post incoming. I obviously don't know your art/where you live/current prices so I'll try to apprach this based on how I price my work, and touching a bit on what to expect. Gonna make this a more generalised commission pricing post because I've seen this come up a lot.
Tl;dr version = Hourly rate (always above national minimum) + time it takes you on average + extra time calculated outside of pure drawing time + taxes
I personally price commissions on FR the same way I price coms/work anywhere else. For commissions I use flatrates which are in turn based on my hourly. Imo if you're doing FRC coms I'd ALWAYS price higher for gems/tr than for IRLC since their usage is confined to on-site. (I do cheapo FRC coms here and there for stuff like foddart too but it's with the explicit understanding that this is NOT a regular transaction. I would not recommend this for a long-term commission shop.) So for FRC coms I'd convert my standard IRLC price + FRC "tax". How much do I value gems/tr over actual IRL goods etc.
My studio hourly usually ranges from 25$ to 30$ but since most commissions are non-commercial work I stick to a 20$/h range for them. I like doing them and I still want my coms to be accessible to people, so I don't mind a small cut (drawing dragons is fun). So if say... a bust on average takes me about an hour and a half the strictest estimate would be 30$ + taxes. But you want to incorporate the possibility of complicated designs, taking longer for polish/make sure the work is up to your standards, reference gathering, small changes and client communication (transaction fees as well when applicable), so it's always good to leave breathing room. (I usually estimate at least another 40 minutes. It honestly ends up taking much longer most of the time. I've had coms take me 10+ hours longer than my priced estimate because I got too ambitious/excited with the illustration, don't be me.)
Now of course all of this stuff depends on your hourly rate too which is honestly a big debate in and on itself. I think the general commissioner audience is used to significantly lower rates than the industry side might. My main income comes from freelancing, where my rate is considered low end. Outside of Illustration, which is vastly underpayed, most designers and creative freelancers will usually have an hourly rate that ranges from 40-100$/h. 20-25$ is considered entry level. My personal recommendation would be to not go lower than 15-20/h if you're doing commissions professionally, even if you live in a place where that is considered a fairly high hourly wage. If you're still a student or your art doesn't really sell yet at those price ranges because of inexperience I think it'd be better to invest in practicing your fundamentals instead and do other work in the meantime. (Or find another platform! Might be an audience issue and not a skill one!)
Unfortunately most people doing coms (including myself) ARE underpricing. I've seen people that would be senior artists in a company if they were doing concept art instead have similar prices to mine, which is ridiculous. (The average mid level concept artist in-house makes 65k/y. People doing coms at the same skillrange often make >20k/y) But to some degree that is kind of inescapable because of how many other people you are competing with. So I don't doubt one bit that you are underpricing already. Illustrators and commission artists are vastly underpayed which means the average audience is conditioned to significantly lower prices.
Thankfully, specifically on FR from my experience the quality of commissioners you'll get is really high. I'm still not sure if you could get away with strictly fairly priced coms, unless you're very popular/your art is super in demand. But other than that, I do payment upon art delivery and have never had issues with a client except once. Communication/references/respect etc are also really good and folks tend to be very understanding and patient.
Be aware that the audience does get smaller the more fairly you price your stuff. I've kinda noticed that the folks commissioning me tend to be from a smaller pool of people that are also the ones commissioning the other artists with a similar skill level on FR that do IRLC coms. So a small pool of regular commissioners + other really skilled or better than you folks that are also fairly accessible/cheap by industry standards. You start seeing a lot of the same artist names pop up when you scroll down in the dragon's bio for references. You will probably not consistently fill all your slots but your clients will most likely end up being trustworthy/reliable and occasionally repeat customers. (Not surprisingly a lot of them are fellow artists/creatives too, y'all know the pain of the grind lol)
I wish you the best, anon. Sorry for kinda hijacking your question to go in-depth with this lol. I upped my prices a few months ago too and thankfully didn't see a decline in clients even if unfortunately I'm still underpricing. Commissions are just a tough game in general. I hope you'll be compensated fairly! If art is your main gig or you're planning on making it your full-time job, definitely look into freelancing instead long term. It's still tough but at least your rates will be much more acceptable. Take care and good luck!
(P.S. In case you're not paying taxes from commissions yet, check with an accountant if you're over the declare threshold. Different countries have different rules for this. If art is your main source of income you almost definitely have to essentially open a business in most places.)

get to know me
Thanks for the tag @scripted-downfall!!
Nicknames: (Unfortunately?) The only nicknames I have gained are random shortenings of my first name.
Zodiac: Aries
Height: 5ā€™3 ish? Yes I get called short a lot
Favorite music: I donā€™t think thereā€™s a type of music I havenā€™t listened to during a random phase, but my most consistent genres are indie, rock, country (fight me itā€™s amazing), some pop, and folk.
Followers: 6 Iā€™m pretty sure most of them are awesome mutuals! itā€™s my first year on tumblr so Iā€™ll probably slowly interact with more people and reach a large following by the time the sun explodes.
Following: 34
Do you get asks?: nope, but I would have a super fun time answering some!
Amount of sleep: uhh probably around 7 hours a night right now but thatā€™ll definitely change come FRC season (if you know you know)
What are you wearing?: super soft black shorts, and a yellow t-shirt thatā€™s probably more than a decade old. It is definitely the weekend.
Dream job: Ooo tough question. Iā€™m really interested in a lot of STEM programs, specifically marine biology, engineering, astronomy, physics, chemistry. (I say specifically than name off like 5 different fields) I really do need to narrow down my options soon but for now Iā€™m just chilling with taking an extreme amount of math and science classes.
Languages: English is the only language I speak fluently, I took just enough Spanish to get the credit, and was learning French on Duolingo during the pandemic. Right now Iā€™m taking some online courses for ASL and dipping my toes into Irish.
Random Fact: I know a weird amount of things about lavender. Donā€™t ask why, but I do.
Aesthetic: Tired student who wears a lot of the same jeans and sweatshirts but rotates them enough that people canā€™t comment. At home you could say more of a country/farmer aesthetic. I do wear a lot of straw hats and overalls when working in the summer. (I also love flannel)
No pressure tagging: @akariana317, @badgerqueen07, @audoimage

Second thread
Yo. Are are y'all doin'?
Here you have the second thread as I have decided to name it, imported from my own twitter over to here. I hope you enjoy this light reading. For a bit more context, refer to my previous post titled "First thread". Let's get to it.
More on vexillology/graphy. First of all, I think that there is a generational between the old (first) and present vexillographers (even though they don't know they're one). Vexillology was born around the 1950's/60's with the FRC, NAVA and FIAV, being completely subordinate to heraldry and not developed as we know it today. Therefore the first vexillologists like Whitney Smith had to create a whole new science from 0, and campaigning informing people about it. Those who were exposed to vexillology in this time and those who took part in the vexillological societies are the one's that write 15 pages-long essays on Tuvalu's flag [I talk about vexillologist with some disrespect I have to admit, and that I have become like I described them myself, writing a 10 pages-long essay on the flag of the Canary Islands, so my example is really bad]. Which is not negative at all, and a palpable difference and betterment from the other kind of vexillological literature consisting of catalogues and footnotes. On the other hand we have those who were exposed to vexillology in recent times, and generally in their youth. This "second wave" of vexillologist maybe saw their municipal flag one day, seeing how ugly it was and started to search. These are the same people who inhabit r/vexillology and r/vexillologycirclejerk, much more decentralised communities than their predecessors and have the purpose of improving the vexillological medium they inhabit. They want to change things [flags]. Of course, there are 20 years old who have memorised Malta's flag code, and there ware many efforts in the "first wave" of changing designs that were profoundly bad. People can change, grow and they'll fall into a category that in principle isn't their own. This is just my opinion an analysis, and who am I but a nobody blogger with 10 followers? As a final note, I want to make some comments on Spain's vexillological status. Imma get a little political.
I think that the vexillological scene in Spain is very behind and dominated by those who dominate the heraldic and historical-military scenes as well: nostalgics who pray every night to the cross of Burgundy, and dream of the Tercios and the Spanish Empire. This is not so in the rest of the world [Correction: it is so in some places, with local equivalents]; because as far as I've seen, vexillology is a much more progressive/leftist science and art than one might thing.
Thank you for sticking to the end. What do you think of what I've written? Do you agree? Am I a dangerous marxist? Anyway, I'll later make a follow-up post with the ideas that came to mind while translating this post.

2024 FRC - MarchšŸ€
This one is a scheduled posted because as we speak, I will be living it up on my vacation to Venice and Croatia - but I'll screenshot my word count first thing on April 01 - so that it'll be up to date. If you're following me on SM - I apologize in advance for the plethora of pictures I'll be inundating you with soon. šŸ˜‰
In other non-vacationy news, as in past years, my daughter and her amazing basketball team defended their title as Provincial Champions and successfully won Back-To-Back Championships. If you were here last year, you'd remember that this was the first time in school history and so doing it again was even more momentous. I chose a close-up this year. Kinda bittersweet that she's played her last game - but really happy with how this season turned out. šŸ€

Okay - back to the fanfiction. Things in theĀ @fanfic-reading-challengeĀ are progressing nicely. If youā€™re looking for a fun way to get out of your comfort zone, you should come check it out.Ā and for those of you who are new here - over the last couple of years, Iā€™ve not only been participating in the fic challenge (which is still open for new members jsyk and the Discord is pretty neat) but I've been tracking all the fic I've read and reported back here once a month with some stats and some recs, and a little bit of boring stuff about my life. Thatā€™s what this post is.
Below the cut are my March stats and some fun fic recs. Iā€™ve been tackling the challenge tasks and am nearly done the ā€˜extremeā€™ mode. I'll crack 6 million words on the airplane back home on Friday. šŸ˜‰
March 2024
Tumblr media
As for my recs for you! Try these - you might enjoy them. The pairings are all over the place - but if it is something you've never read before, let one of them be your first foray into the ship.šŸ–¤šŸ–¤
I actually stumbled upon this fic accidentally to pass off a task for the challenge but Folie Ć  Deux byĀ @cypresssunns (E 1/1) - is a super delightful Knives Out fic and I'm SO glad I read something new!. The pairing is Marta/Ransom and it is a "Marriage of Convenience/Ransom remains a sociopath but Marta kinda likes him like that" kinda fic. It was delightful and if you're into co-dependency and couples where no one is really a good person - this is the fic for you!
Of course I never go a month without recommending at least one Wenvier fic - and Pomegranate. by @theravenandtheartist (T - 1/1) was fantastic. Wednesday in particular felt perfectly in character. Xavier is adorkable. And honestly, I just have a unhealthy love for Hades and Persephone - so while this is NOT an AU, the mythology does play into the story and I loved how it was done. Great read!
And seriously, COME ON. racing the yellow lights is a Hallie/Society Assassins AU (M - 1/1) and it's fantastic. I've read it about a bajillion times and it is ALWAYS delightful. Of course the great @smc-27 writes one of the best Harrys in the whole fandom so it's completely unsurprising that this fic has me in a chokehold. If you like The Society - and you like Hallie and fun AUs - don't forget to review! šŸ’›
Anyway - I have lots of tasks yet to complete - so if you have a fic that youā€™d like to recommend - let me know! I'll see you when I get home! šŸ–¤
