Second thread
Yo. Are are y'all doin'?
Here you have the second thread as I have decided to name it, imported from my own twitter over to here. I hope you enjoy this light reading. For a bit more context, refer to my previous post titled "First thread". Let's get to it.
More on vexillology/graphy. First of all, I think that there is a generational between the old (first) and present vexillographers (even though they don't know they're one). Vexillology was born around the 1950's/60's with the FRC, NAVA and FIAV, being completely subordinate to heraldry and not developed as we know it today. Therefore the first vexillologists like Whitney Smith had to create a whole new science from 0, and campaigning informing people about it. Those who were exposed to vexillology in this time and those who took part in the vexillological societies are the one's that write 15 pages-long essays on Tuvalu's flag [I talk about vexillologist with some disrespect I have to admit, and that I have become like I described them myself, writing a 10 pages-long essay on the flag of the Canary Islands, so my example is really bad]. Which is not negative at all, and a palpable difference and betterment from the other kind of vexillological literature consisting of catalogues and footnotes. On the other hand we have those who were exposed to vexillology in recent times, and generally in their youth. This "second wave" of vexillologist maybe saw their municipal flag one day, seeing how ugly it was and started to search. These are the same people who inhabit r/vexillology and r/vexillologycirclejerk, much more decentralised communities than their predecessors and have the purpose of improving the vexillological medium they inhabit. They want to change things [flags]. Of course, there are 20 years old who have memorised Malta's flag code, and there ware many efforts in the "first wave" of changing designs that were profoundly bad. People can change, grow and they'll fall into a category that in principle isn't their own. This is just my opinion an analysis, and who am I but a nobody blogger with 10 followers? As a final note, I want to make some comments on Spain's vexillological status. Imma get a little political.
I think that the vexillological scene in Spain is very behind and dominated by those who dominate the heraldic and historical-military scenes as well: nostalgics who pray every night to the cross of Burgundy, and dream of the Tercios and the Spanish Empire. This is not so in the rest of the world [Correction: it is so in some places, with local equivalents]; because as far as I've seen, vexillology is a much more progressive/leftist science and art than one might thing.
Thank you for sticking to the end. What do you think of what I've written? Do you agree? Am I a dangerous marxist? Anyway, I'll later make a follow-up post with the ideas that came to mind while translating this post.

Flag of Spanish Australia
This is the flag of Spanish Australia. It's from a world where Spain launched an attack on the British colonies in Australia in 1790. This was because the Spanish believed British Australia was a threat to their Pacific colonies. A few years prior to the invasion, the British colonies had also suffered a number of setbacks that made their future uncertain. The Spanish filled Australia with colonist not only from Spain, but also from across their colonies in the Americas. This diverse group of colonists have Spanish Australia a very cosmopolitan feel to it as the years went on.
Spanish Australia comprises most of the continent plus the north island of New Zealand. The French established a colony of their own in Western Australia and the South Island of New Zealand. The Spanish and French mutually supported their colonial efforts in order to keep the British out of Australia, and the two Australias are allies to this day. Spanish Australia is also quite loyal to its mother nation and is a happy member of the Spanish Commonwealth. Spain did a much better job administering and retaining its colonies and in time organized them into a Commonwealth.
The red and gold stripes are a reference to the nation's Spanish heritage. The bull is a reference to the important role that ranching has played in the history of Spanish Australia. The purple stands for wealth gain by the opal and gold rushes as well as the nation's loyalty to the Spanish Commonwealth.

Welcome to the Vexillological Association Flag Wars! This tournament will focus on the flags of any association dedicated to vexillology, or the study of flags. This includes both active and inactive organizations. The first vexillological organization is the North American Vexillological Association, which was founded in 1967 by Whitney Smith, who created the term “vexillology.” Most of the organizations in this tournament are members of the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques), which is an association of 53 flag organizations.
This tournament will feature the flags of organizations from every continent except for Antarctica. Let me know in the comments if you are a member of any of these associations and which flag you are rooting for! See the brackets below.

GENDERFLUID (self indulgent) flag alternative
[PT; biggest title text saying, "GENDERFLUID (self indulgent) flag alternative". end PT]
[ID; two rectangular flags with 6 equally-sized horizontal stripes and colors in this order, from top to bottom: baltic sea, light lime green, malibu, lavender indigo, candy pink and dawn pink. the second flag has text that gives the meaning of each color; from top to bottom, the text for every meaning says; absence of gender or "genderlessness", gender outside of the binary system, gender related to masculinity, gender related to androgyny or the "inbetween", gender related to femininity, presence of limitless genders or "genderfullness". the second flag also has the spanish translation to each meaning; from top to bottom, the spanish translation for every meaning says; ausencia de género, género fuera del sistema binario, género en relación a la masculinidad, género en relación a la androginidad o el "intermedio", género en relación a la feminidad, presencia de géneros ilimitados. end ID]
first time posting ! but I've been interested in flags and queer vexillology for a while and I decided to give it a try :-)
I wanted to create my own personal take on the genderfluid flag, since it was the first label I ever used as a queer, trans person ! I hold a very special love for that label, because it gave me the opportunity to start my gender-searching-journey.
** this is JUST a self-indulgent alternative, it is NOT meant to be a replacement for the original flag

Do you have any niche interests that you haven’t really talked about online?
Oh this is a great question, I have to think about what counts as niche LOL, most of these probably aren't that niche but I'm not sure what else to call them
I definitely have a LOT of interests I don't post too much about, and some of which I haven't fulfilled IRL yet (like I don't have the means to pursue it as a hobby)
Not really "niche" I don't think and I do post about them (not super in depth though) in the sciences include but are not limited to:
Zoology (this is what I'm going to go to college for once I legally change my name)
Entomology
Linguistics
Archaeology
Paleontology
Biology in general
General environmental sciences
Geology
Astronomy
Anthropology
And probably others I am forgetting
Some hobby based interests of mine include the following (I'll put a note next to the ones I can't actually fulfill as of rn):
Tea drinking/brewing/etc. (probably the biggest one I have) (I fulfill this)
Bookbinding (I can't fulfill this yet)
Painting (not very niche) (I fulfill this but I do not feel comfortable sharing any paintings at the moment lol)
Puzzle-solving
Calligraphy/penmanship (not currently fulfilling this)
Reading (not niche at all but generally I don't post about any of the books I read)
Movies? Not inherently niche but I don't post about this and I'm into watching movies like old films, indie films, and cult classics
Macrophotography (not fulfilling this because I don't have the equipment but I do take pictures of bugs with the macrophotography feature on our old family video camera even if they're not great)
Writing and poetry (not niche but I don't post about this at all, I really want to write starting books and currently write poetry)
Theater/acting (not niche but I don't post about this) (also can't fulfill it)
Tarot/divination (I don't truly believe in it but it's just fun)
Okay I don't feel like reorganizing my list above but going from above here are more things I'm into that can't currently fulfill or just haven't fulfilled yet:
Ceramics
Crochet
Fishing (I've done this like three times)
Things like chess, mahjong, go, shogi, koi-koi and other hanafuda games (I don't know how to play chess which embarrasses me greatly)
Sewing in general
Quilting (I've made one quilt!)
Woodworking
Bug keeping (I want roly polies and snails and some others)
Vulture culture (not very legal...)
Foraging (I have an uncle very into this that I need to help me get into this)
Geocaching
Hiking
Biking (been getting into this a bit recently)
Some miscellaneous interests of mine that I'm not sure how to categorize include the following (some of these might be sciences but I feel like they're not as science-y as the ones I listed before)"
Mythology (this...counts as antropology but shh)
Conlangs (counts as linguistics? sort of?)
Vexillology
Language learning (semi-fluent in Spanish, currently learning: Irish, Welsh, (Scottish Gaelic), Scots, Lushootseed, Japanese, Chinese, I want to learn some other languages as well though)
Sunscreen/sunblock/UV protection (I have no idea what to call this but it's a big interest of mine)
Hedgehogs (big special interest of mine throughout my life)
I collect old books (none of them are all that old and I don't seek out any old titles, but if I see an old book I'll usually buy it, although I've had to put a hold on this because I don't have space) (oldest book I have is very late 1800s)
I have no idea how to phrase this but I love learning about the cultures of different countries as well as the differences in variations of English, I guess this is anthropology and linguistics
Lost media
History in general (this falls into archaeology and anthropology)
Dogs? I'm very into stuff about dogs, not like breeding or dog shows but just different stuff about the breeds or stuff about dogs
Animation (I'm into its history and animated features)
Dragons. As a child I was so autistic about them that I refused to read any book without dragons AND they had to be neutral to good dragons (ties into mythology)
Fairies/fae (ties into mythology)
Plushie collecting (I don't seek out specific plushes or try to fill certain spots in a collection, I just like collecting whatever I like)
There's probably more I'm forgetting
#asks#yoshifawful64#you can answer the question for yourself also#i would love to hear#i just. cant send asks bc im suspended#you can reply or DM me LOL

Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernán Cortés (pictured on the right holding a sword) stands at the head of the Spanish Armada while he meet the Aztec Emperor Montezuma II (1466- c. 1520). Presiding over the event on horseback is St James (Saint James the Moor-slayer, aka Santiago Matamoros). Note the double-headed eagle on the flag in the background left.
Oil painting by an unknown 17th century artist, kept at the Museo De Las Culturas De Oaxaca in Mexico.
Notes:
From Wikipedia:
Cortés led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire and brought large portions of what is now mainland Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile in the early 16th century. He was part of the generation of Spanish explorers and conquistadors who began the first phase of the Spanish colonization of the Americas.
From Wikipedia page: Double-headed eagle.
In heraldry and vexillology*, the double-headed eagle (or double-eagle) is a charge associated with the concept of Empire.
*Vexillology is the study of flags.

Flag of the Kingdom of Leon
This is the flag of the Kingdom of Leon. It comes from a world where the Reconquista failed and most of Spain remained under Islamic rule. For many years Leon was forced to pay protection money to Al-Andalus. However, after a while they were able to appeal to their powerful Christian neighbors for support. For many years, the boarder of Western Europe was considered to stop at the Pyrenees Mountains. The Iberian Peninsula was lumped in with the rest of the Islamic World. This somewhat miffed Leon, as they were often lumped in with the rest of Iberia, when anyone remembered that they existed, that is.
The discovery of the Americas was delayed by a few decades, but it still happened. Albeit, it was by the English-funded John Cabot, rather than Christopher Columbus. The colonization of the New World occurred rather differently than in our world. For example, Al-Andalus colonized Mexico. This resulted in a new form of Islam that combined Sunni Islam with tradition Aztec beliefs. The native converts proved particularly zealous, and more than willing to wage jihad upon their neighbors. Meanwhile, England colonized Brazil and France proved more successful in its colonization of Canada, among other developments.
Leon got into the colonization game as well, though a bit later than the other powers. Their first successful colony was Nova Asturias, located in what would have been the Southeastern United States. Nova Asturias became a major producer of tobacco, cotton, lumber and other raw materials. This allowed Leon to slowly build up its economy, rather than blowing through a bunch of money like Al-Andalus' did. Leon also established colonies in Patagonia, Southern Africa, and even a few islands of Indonesia.
What Leon lacks in sizes it makes up for in economic prowess. Recently, despite years of resentment and conflict, relations with Al-Andalus have begun to improve considerably. Leon is a nation that truly lives up its motto Sub Umbra Floreo, which is Latin for "I Prosper in the Shade". This is a reference to Leon's historical existence in the shadow of Al-Andalus.
The flag is a simple crimson background with a golden and bejeweled Asturias Cross in the center.

Apparently r/vexillology is trying to redesign/simplify the Spanish flag rn (I don’t have Reddit but I follow an account on Tumblr that takes posts from there, you’ve all probably noticed that by now) and I’m very VERY tempted to make a Reddit account just to post a “simplified Spanish flag” and it’s just the republicana
#i mean????? it's simpler??????????#no crest????????#also all the redesigns are ugly af just saying#they're basically trying to turn the crest into a flat design#consider this: get rid of the crest and also add purple#:)))))))#and end the monarchy while you're at it :))))))))))#perce rambles#antimonàrquic on main tonight i guess
