7 Useful Tips to Protect Your Skin from Sun Damage After Laser Treatments
Sun protection is one thing many patients may initially not think about if they’re undergoing treatments with lasers, such as Fraxel®. Los Angeles’ Skin Care and Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills team explains that laser treatments that use fractional laser technology to rejuvenate the skin can improve its texture and appearance, but also increase its sun sensitivity for a while.
Before undergoing any type of laser skin resurfacing, you should be aware of how the treatment works, what it does to your skin, and how to care for yourself in the following days.
Fractional laser treatments work by using laser energy to penetrate deep below the surface. The energy causes small micro-injuries in the skin, which trigger the body's natural healing processes. The skin then repairs itself by producing new skin cells, which leads to an improvement in overall skin texture and tone.
This process, however, also makes the skin more vulnerable to the sun's harmful UV rays. Sun sensitivity is a common side effect because the skin is in a state of healing—in addition to simply being thinner and more delicate and therefore more susceptible to damage from the sun. This means the skin is more likely to burn and develop age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles if exposed to the sun without proper protection.
Additionally, the heat generated by laser treatments can cause the skin to become more susceptible to sunburn, which can result in further skin damage and an increased risk of skin cancer.
The laser energy used in fractional laser treatments can also damage melanocytes, which are cells responsible for producing melanin in the skin. When melanocytes are damaged, the skin becomes more susceptible to sun damage.
After any laser treatment, it is crucial to take extra precautions to protect your skin. Here are seven useful tips to help protect your skin from sun damage after fractional laser treatments.
1. Avoid Direct Sunlight
The first and most important tip is to avoid direct sunlight for at least two weeks. Stay in the shade as much as possible and avoid being outside during peak sun hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you have to be in the sun, make sure you wear protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
2. Use Sunscreen Regularly
The next most important step in protecting your skin from sun damage is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day. Reapply every two hours when you are in direct sunlight.
3. Stick to Physical Sunscreens
Physical sunscreens, also known as mineral sunscreens, contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that physically block UV rays from reaching the skin. They are gentle on sensitive skin and can provide better protection compared to chemical sunscreens.
4. Wear Protective Clothing
Wear a wide-brimmed hat and long-sleeved shirt to protect your face and arms from sun exposure. Choose clothing made from tightly woven fabrics, because they offer better protection than other fabrics. Wearing a lightweight scarf can help protect the neck and décolletage from sun damage, especially if you have had laser treatment on those areas.
5. Hydrate Your Skin
Drinking plenty of water and using a hydrating moisturizer can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy, making it more resistant to sun damage.
6. Use Antioxidants
Antioxidants can help protect the skin from free radical damage, which can cause premature aging and skin damage. Use products containing vitamin C and E to help protect your skin.
7. Use a Sunscreen-Infused Lip Balm
The skin on the lips is thin and delicate, making it especially vulnerable to sun damage. Applying a lip balm with SPF protection can help protect the lips from sun damage.

How IPL Can Help With Skin Pigmentation
Skin pigmentation disorders can significantly affect an individual's confidence and quality of life. Fortunately, advancements in cosmetic dermatology have led to effective treatments that can reduce or even eliminate unwanted pigmentation. Among these, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy has emerged as a popular choice for its efficacy in treating various types of skin pigmentation. Particularly, intense pulsed light therapy in San Francisco has gained recognition for providing outstanding results.
Understanding IPL Therapy
IPL therapy uses broad-spectrum light to target pigmented areas of the skin without damaging surrounding tissue. This non-invasive treatment can address a wide range of skin pigmentation issues, including sun spots, age spots, melasma and freckles. The light energy is absorbed by the pigmented areas, causing them to heat up and break down into smaller particles, which are then naturally removed by the body's immune system. This process results in a more even skin tone and improved overall complexion.
Benefits of IPL for Skin Pigmentation
Intense pulsed light therapy in San Francisco offers several benefits for individuals struggling with skin pigmentation. Firstly, the procedure is relatively quick and requires no downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. Additionally, IPL is versatile and can be customized to suit different skin types and pigmentation levels, ensuring optimal results for a wide range of patients. Most individuals experience significant improvement in their skin's appearance after just a few sessions, with minimal discomfort during the procedure.
In conclusion, IPL therapy is a safe and effective solution for those looking to improve skin pigmentation issues. Its ability to provide targeted treatment makes it an ideal option for individuals seeking a non-invasive and efficient method to achieve a more even and radiant complexion. With the availability of intense pulsed light therapy in the Bay Area, residents have access to one of the latest advancements in cosmetic dermatology, promising excellent results for skin pigmentation concerns.

I feel like Bruce says "Brucie" things sometimes to Hal Jordan's face (as Batman) just to fuck with him.
"The Fraxel laser isn't actually that painful."
"Champagne before Bordeaux is never a good idea."
"You've never been invited to an après-ski?"
"Epilation is the superior form of hair removal, Jordan."
and Hal is just sitting their quietly fuming because how does Batman know about all of these things, he's literally a guy dressed in a bat costume from Gotham what the fuck does he even know about skiing--

i think celebrity and influencer age kayfabe has gotten so extreme in this century that a lot of people are just going to be permanently confused about what normal human age milestones actually look like. lot of very public women "in their twenties" walking around with very clearly 40+-year-old elbows, hands, neck tendons and knee topography. and those are just the ones who don't have doctors that are clever enough to cover that shit up, which I assume most of the A list celebs are doing already with fat transfer, LED therapy, fraxel laser etc. if we ever get stem cells working on a scaled basis we'll be able to grow custom molded bioidentical fat implants and then we're really going to see some shit
#most people look basically the same with extremely minor aging between about 27 and 43#thats the post-Young Adult stage of development and it's fairly stable except in the case of pregnancy changes and major weight gain#mid forties is when the really noticeable aging starts kicking in again#which is on time for our broad understanding of how human social organization works#theres evidence that something about skin wrinkling itself is related to longevity#we share the characteristic with elephants and naked mole rats and we all live a very long time#but you can push the mid forties changes out pretty far if you want to put a lot of effort into it

Early Acne Scar Improvement with Genius, Sculptra & Fraxel
These photos were taken just before her second treatment, one month after receiving Genius RF, Sculptra, and Fraxel to reduce acne scars. Achieving such visible progress after just one session is rare since acne scars typically improve gradually with collagen production over several months. With the right combination of treatments, early results like these are possible!

What is the greatest extravagance your OCs allow themselves?
thank you for the ask! i started working on the answer for this ask eons ago and never got around to finishing. and i still haven't. but i'm trying to stay awake while i finish work tasks, so i scrolled through my album and saw these. sooo, here we go, unfinished and leaked unedited.
Straight from the draft of Lisa Drummond's Smogue Skincare feature: "I get Fraxel about twice a year. It's an intense laser treatment that improves texture, acne scars and enlarged pores," she wrote in the comments.
"It's kinda expensive. And hurts like shit. Ur face micro scabs... the scabs fall off gradually... over a period of like 7 days. And then a new layer of skin is revealed... your face stays swollen for like another week. Its all so worth it tho lol."
"I keep up the results w/ Alastin skin care, iS Clinical serums, Cerave wash, Lancer scrub and Circcell Abo +|- serum. Also I take collagen pills, drink kangen water, apple cider vinegar and take Super Food by Dr Shulze's daily!"
-Someone has leaked Lisa's "would-have-been-if-there-were-not-technical-difficulties" cute little skincare GRWM or unready with me? chile iono, im tired.
#i did this on april 1#and i guess the jokes on me bc my game crashed. this bathroom didnt save. and i never went back to try again LOL.#tragic#someone at smogue is getting fired!!#who would leak this#shunohoney asks#dosr extras

3 Benefits of Intense Pulsed Light Therapy
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy offers an effective solution to addressing common signs of aging. San Francisco IPL treatments target visible damage caused by sun exposure. That includes skin discoloration and texture issues.
Unlike other treatment options, IPL doesn't utilize lasers. Instead, it relies on light energy to target specific colors in the skin. It treats multiple issues at once while leaving surrounding tissue intact.
If you're considering IPL treatment, here are a few benefits you can expect to gain.
Improvements Without Dramatic Changes
People love San Francisco IPL treatments because they can undo signs of aging without dramatic transformations. You will still look like yourself. The difference is that you look younger and more refreshed than ever. The effects are subtle but powerful. IPL can take years off your appearance, giving you the confidence you need to conquer every day.
Minimal Downtime
Another major benefit of IPL treatments is that they don't require extensive downtime. The procedure is non-invasive. There are no needles or knives. Instead, you sit comfortably and can usually go about your day afterward.
Most people will feel like they have a sunburn for several hours after treatment. However, that sensation subsides, and you can enjoy the effects of your treatment. Your dermatologist will guide post-treatment care. Typically, aftercare involves using moisturizers, applying sunscreen and limiting your use of makeup.
See Results Quickly
How many treatments you'll need depends on your specific situation and what you're addressing. However, most people will start to see results relatively quickly. In some cases, you may see improvements after a single session.
One to three sessions are the norm for those who want to get rid of redness or hyperpigmentation. If your dermatologist uses IPL for acne, it may take up to six sessions. Either way, that's much quicker than other treatment options. Plus, you get the added benefit of minimal downtime.
Generally, providers recommend a resting period of two to four weeks. All things considered, you'll see faster results than it takes to heal from more invasive alternatives.
