After enjoying our morning walkies, Gina and I (without Frankie) travelled to Drysdale, where we enjoyed an excellent luncheon/dining experience on board The Q Train, a historic train that travels between Drysdale and Queenscliff. Thursday evening we attended the Geelong Library’s special presentation of the famous Australian author, “Tim Winton, in conversation with Jock Serong, as…

ok so I have just now finished ymata and I need everyone in the Mat Baynton fandom to listen to me very carefully:
✨JAMIE’S. NOT. DEAD!!!!!✨
How do I know this? For one thing, the way that his character has been built up over the whole season, not only with the son-of-god thing but also with who he is as a person, STRONGLY indicates that he’s not the type of character you can just throw away like THAT. For another thing, he’s one of the main characters, which should grant him at least a little bit of plot armor. And for a THIRD thing, THEY NEVER ACTUALLY SHOW HIM DIE. We see him crawling towards Rajesh and the cloud of ash moving towards them, just barely covering them. Right after that it cuts to the bunker where the last thing we see is Ariel smiling. BUT THEY NEVER SHOW JAMIE OR RAJESH DYING.
If ymata had been renewed for a second season, do you really think they would just have killed off Jamie FUCKING Winton? The Messiah (supposedly), the hero, husband of Layla and father of Frankie, adopted son of Paula, step son of Dave and (through her marriage to his biological father) Celine, future half-brother of Celine’s unborn child, nephew of Rhonda and Scotty, son of Jude and TWIN BROTHER of Ariel? Jamie is too damn important and this show is too damn good for them to have just let him die at the end of the first season. If there had been a second season, you can bet that the writers (if they had half a brain) would have made sure that he, and possibly even Rajesh, survived miraculously, and they would have revealed this either straightaway in the first episode or later on as a twist.
tl;dr: JAMIE WINTON IS ALIVE and he’s going to find his way back to his family if it’s the last thing he does.

Relationship: Jamie Winton x reader
Summary: Jamie is a single father you have been dating for a while now. But because you are his daughter's, Frankie, teacher you didn't tell her.
Warning: None, just fluff
Notes: Fic inspired by a discussion I had in the Bayton Babes server with @jamiewintons
"Goodbye miss!" One of your student waved goodbye to you as she ran toward her mom.
It was the end of the school day and usually you would be looking at your watch every two seconds, hoping the parents who are late to pick up their children hurry up so you could go home.
But today you were looking at your for another reason. This time the only kid that was still here was Frankie Winton, a little 7 years old whose father you were very close to.
Her father, Jamie Winton, was one of the kindest man you ever knew. You had started to date not long after the two met.
Jamie was generally on time but with him being a single dad, he often had to juggle multiple things at the same time.
"Miss?" You heard Frankie call you.
"Yes Frankie?"
"You make my daddy happy. And it makes me happy."
You stared at Frankie for a few seconds, registering what she just said. Did Jamie told her? No, that wasn't possible. Because you were Frankie's teacher the two of you had been worried it would confuse Frankie. And for that reason you had decided not to tell Frankie before you weren't her teacher anymore.
"What are you talking about Frankie?" You said, trying to keep your voice steady and calm. Maybe if you pretended you had no idea what she was talking about, she would stop talking about it. Or you would realise she was talking about something else.
"I wanted you to know that he loves you a lot!" She told you, the biggest grin on her face.
"I... Thank you Frankie." What were you even supposed to say? You agreed with Jamie not to tell her about your relationship yet but maybe he wouldn't be the best idea to lie to her and tell she was wrong.
Fortunately, before you started to dig yourself into a hole, you saw from the corner of your eye, Jamie running toward the school.
"I'm so sorry for being late. I hope I didn't let you wait for too long." Jamie told you as he hugged Frankie who'd ran toward him as soon as she saw him.
"Don't worry about it, it's alright." You gave Jamie a discreet smile which he returned.
You looked at Jamie walking away, Frankie holding his hand and telling everything that happened today at school. You couldn't wait for this weekend.
Jamie was coming to pass time at your place on Saturday as Frankie was going to see a movie with Dave, or uncle Dave as she called him.
_________________________________________
A few days later, Jamie and you were sitting on your couch, playing video games.
"Did you tell her?"
"What?" Jamie asked, looking away from the screen.
"Did you tell Frankie about us?"
"No. Of course, I didn't." He answered, his eyebrows frowned. "Would you like to tell her?"
"Not now? I mean I don't know. But it's not about that. Frankie told me a few days ago that she was happy that I make you happy. And that ummmm, you loved me."
Hearing you telling you this, Jamie had turned a dark red.
"She isn't wrong, but I promise you I didn't tell her anything. It doesn't suprise me that she figured out though." Jamie sighed.
"What do you mean?"
"She often seems to know everything. She always guessed what gifts or suprise I had for her. She even flat out told me I was lying to her when I mentioned Santa Claus." He chuckled. "When I..." Jamie paused for a second. "When I tried to tell her about her mom, she already knew. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it sad."
"It's okay, sweetheart." You rubbed his shoulder, trying to reassure him. "Should we have a talk with her? If she already knows, it would be pointless to pretend we're not together."
Jamie nodded before leaning in and kissing you.
"Wait, did you say you love me?" You asked him, stopping the kiss for a second.
"I did." Jamie chuckled. "I love you Y/N, I really do."
"I love you too." You said before throwing yourself back into kissing Jamie.
_________________________________________
"So? How did it go?" You asked Jamie. You had decided that Jamie would first talk to her alone. A few seconds ago, your phone had rang, Jamie's name flashing on your screen.
"It went surprisingly well. She already knew that we were together and she didn't seem to mind."
"That's amazing sweetheart!"
"I thought we could go out one day with Frankie, since we don't have to it from her anymore. Maybe we could go to the restaurant? Or maybe for a walk? Or just at home?"
"All of those sounds great. I'll be happy either way. And I'm sure Frankie will be too."
And you weren't lying. From here your future with Jamie, and Frankie, seemed happy and radious.

THE ART - UCA/2017
In our 10th year of Uncommon Common Art the list of participating artists was fully selected through a jury process. We exhibited 20 installations, what is now the maximum number we can accommodate.
Our guest curator was Angela Henderson who is an accomplished artist and resent graduate from NSCAD’s MFA program.  (see link to Angela’s website)
During January and February of 2016 Angela worked closely with director Terry Drahos to promote UCA’s call for submission to Nova Scotia artists. UCA received 35 installation proposals.  A jury consisting of Angela, Terry, and three other arts professionals from around the province selected 20 artists to participate.  The jury process is based on the same format used by Arts Nova Scotia using a numeric rubric to evaluate each proposal.  This process is followed in order to minimize personal bias and create a fair and equitable selection of artists. The selected outside jurors are instructed to keep their participation and conversations confidential.
This year’s participating artists are as follows -
Stop 1 - Josh Collins
Stop 2 - Holly Carr
Stop 3 - Nicole Evans and Patrick Farrell
Stop 4 - Frankie Macauley
Stop 5 - Veronica Post
Stop 6 - Jessica Wiebe
Stop 7 - Miyoshi Kondo
Stop 8 - Sanna Rahola
Stop 9 - Andrew Maize
Stop 10 - Ursula Handleigh
Stop 11 - Genny Killin
Stop 12 - Alan Bateman
Stop 13 - Jennifer Marlow
Stop 14 - Kevin West
Stop 15 - Kate Ward
Stop 16 - Andrew Milne
Stop 17 - Dyan Hatanaka
Stop 18 - Ben and Sarah Mosher
Stop 19 - Marla Benton
Stop 20 - Twila Robar-DeCoste
A couple of highlights of 2017
Stop 5 by Veronica Post proved to be a favourite with younger visitors.  The playful nature of the giant rocking horse placed behind the Wolfville Library filled two guestbooks with signatures by delighted children.  The librarians were  diligent stewards of this artwork helping to keep both the art and observers safe.  The Wolfville Library liked this piece so much that they asked to adopt it so that it could be exhibited year after year. Both Veronica and UCA are thrilled with this arrangement.  The Library has agreed to make a permanent sign that will both recognize the artist and that it was part of UCA 2017.
Stop 6 by Jessica Wiebe, garnished a considerable amount of attention both in its’ installation and deconstruction.  Jessica struck an emotional cord with this layered anti-monument art piece that was both a personal and community  journey investigating our relationship to war veterans and the monuments we erect to their service.
A couple of low points from 2017
Vandalism took its toll on our 10th year of exhibiting.  Stop 7 by Miyoshi Kondo was completely decimated and rebuilt twice.  Located on the Acadia Campus along the woodland trails this art piece did not survive a month.  Miyoshi finally made a modest memorial to the art piece that limped along until October.
Stop 5 by Veronica Post was vandalized and repaired twice during the exhibit. Once it was tipped over which caused the head to fall off and the second time someone drew all over the face of the horse with sharpie marker. Fortunately we were able to repair it both times and the piece survived the rest of the exhibit.
In Kentville all of our signs were stolen by the end of October which is a financial lose of roughly $450.  In addition Stop 17 by Dyan Hatanaka was vandalized and repaired sometime in July.
The Pop Up gallery was a great idea but we were unable to sell this to the building owners of Kentville.  We spent countless hours trying to get businesses and the town on board.  Everyone liked the idea but were unwilling to support us with space or money.
Lessons Learned
All of the vandalism was reported to the police merely as a formality, the odds of finding the vandals is slim.  In planning our 2018 season the jury was instructed to consider vandalism in the materials of the artwork and locations. We will be working closely with artists to find locations that are less likely to garnish unwarranted attention.
The increased popularity of UCA with Nova Scotia Artists brings in more artists from outside of Kings County.  While this is a great thing it has created some problems in managing the art installations. Each artist is responsible for maintenance and repair of their art.  If they don’t live in the area this often falls to the director.  That was fine when their were one or two art pieces to tend to but with the increased volume it proved to be overwhelming.  In 2018 we will be recruiting volunteer art ambassadors to work with the visiting artists.  Volunteers will be paired with artists to help them with logistics and stewardship of the art piece. Hopefully this will also help detour vandalism.
Suggested Additions and Changes for UCA 2018
1. As mentioned above we will be recruiting volunteers.  Board member Genevieve Allen Hearn has agreed to help with this.
2. Over the years we have been approached by several artist to incorporate performance art pieces.  Jessica Wiebe’s performance based installation proved to be very interesting and the community embraced it enthusiastically. In discussion with UCA 2018′s curator Kate Ward we would like to try to organize a series of 4 performance art pieces during the month of August.  We have already talked with Jessica Wiebe about a piece she has been thinking about and new UCA artist Brian Riley often works in performance based art.  We will build on this to create a short summer series.
3. For the past three years we have approached senior artists to be the curator for the UCA exhibit.  In preparation for the 2019 exhibit we will be putting out a call for curators (and curatorial ideas) this January.  We hope this will open UCA up to new ideas and artists, further growing the projects creativity and reach into the arts community.  Working a year ahead will allow UCA to plan better and the new curator to have a better knowledge of the workings of our organization.  We hope to select the 2019 curator by the spring and invite them to give the last Artist Talk at the end of July 2018
4. To assist with all aspects of UCA from the artistic to the financial we have adjusted the annual schedule. Instead of selecting artists, writing grants, and securing sponsorship beginning in January of each year and completing by May we  started this process in the summer.  Last July we selected and contractually secured our 2018 curator, Kate Ward.  During August Kate worked with UCA director Terry Drahos to draft the 2018 concept statement and put out a call for submissions.  All of the artist for UCA 2018 were selected by the jury on October 31.  2018 Artists contracts are due by November 30th.
The list of UCA 2018 artists are as follows -
1. Lorraine Albert
2. Bonnie Baker
3. Marla Benton
4. Eileen Boyd
5. Nicole Evans and Patrick Farrell
6. Carrie Goodfellow
7. Dyan Hatanaka
8. Genny Killin

10. Kim Morgan
11. Ben Mosher
12. Brian Riley
