I can't believe I've never heard of this movie before. Sure, it was kind of dumb, it should have been gay, and Angelina Jolie played the same character in every movie in the 90s, but it was fun.

I'm always down for a group of girls fighting sexual harassment together. 

Jokes were hit and miss, but who cares when you have Angelina Jolie topless giving you a tits tattoo. 

Tomboy Angelina Jolie was taking down the patriarchy and the girl at the same time. A cultural reset. 

Most of the feminist lists in letterboxd skipped this one. What a failure.

My Mononoke and Sky: CoTL fandom wires getting crossed because I just got back from a Sky art exhibit/panel and the newly revealed Mononoke's worldbuilding lore confirms the existence of multiple medicine sellers.

So I made some Mononoke-inspired Sky kids to get it out of my system. Or would it be considered a Sky-inspired Medicine Seller? 🤔

Some design insights and lore below the cut!

Sky-Kusu's haircut and tunic are modeled after a moth's. For the uninitiated, in Sky we call new players "moths" because they fly awkwardly and are attracted to bright lights.

The gold necklace around Sky-Kusu's neck resembles both anime-Kusu's necklace and Sky's Season of Revival pendant. He probably arrived in this realm while that season was running.

Sky-Kusu's cape is shaped like a butterfly (which he has an affinity for) and emblazoned with Sky mural patterns. I made it blue as a nod to anime-Kusu's kimono and the Beta Cape, a cosmetic gifted to playtesters. Sky-Kusu's existence predates that of Sky so that's thematically appropriate.

Instead of carrying a medicine box, Sky-Kusu has a large butterfly pot. These butterflies are a silvery blue as a nod to kitsunebi- foxfire- which is said to contain the life force of a kitsune which Kusu is often associated with. Butterflies in Sky help rekindle light, which is especially crucial for Sky-Kusu because...

Sky-Kusu only has one "Winged Light" - his "Hyper" form- hence the sun dog halo around Sky-Hyper's head.

Sky-Hyper's haircut is honestly just an aesthetic choice. It's one of my favorite hairstyles in Sky, and allows for some fun patterning in the buzzcut area.

Sky-Hyper's costume design is heavily inspired by his movie counterpart's. However, because Sky doesn't allow cosmetics that reveal too much of the skin, he's also wearing what's essentially a modesty tube top and leggings lol. It has the unintended side effect of making him appear more feminine-presenting, which I'm not entirely bothered about.

The markings on Sky-Hyper's skin are inspired by his original markings and star constellations. They're colored silvery blue for kitsunebi. Coincidentally, a lot of spirits in sky are also tinted blue. Hmmm...

The Winged Light scattered throughout the Sky realms deeply unsettle Hyper. They are so much like him, yet have no personality or minds to speak of. Soulless batteries. Although it is to their detriment, their shared body subconsciously rejects these Winged Lights.

This leaves them quite vulnerable to dark creatures in the more dangerous realms. A solid blow from a dark dragon knocks 5-7 Winged Lights out of an unfortunate sky kid. If Sky-Kusu gets hit with his single winged light...

Because weapons are forbidden in Sky, I swapped Sky-Kusu's exorcism sword out with an exorcism...lantern-on-a-stick? It has a little bell and tassel attached to it too!

Since the exorcism sword is traditionally modeled after a fearsome creature, I made the lantern's color palette match that of a dark dragon. At its full power, it can "exorcise" an entire shard eruption in a single blow.

Normally, the exorcism lantern's light isn't "unleashed" unless specific conditions are met to exorcise entity. However, in the Sky realms where light is freely given and shared, the lantern can be lit by other sky kids but burns a weaker flame akin to a sky kid's candle.

Because of this perpetual fire, Hyper cannot fully fall into dormancy. This is fine. He keeps Sky-Kusu company in this strange new world.

Foxfire ROS

After playing Foxfire for 9 rounds I've started to feel like I could use something to nudge me out of my routines a bit! For the next round, I'm going to try how adding random scenarios to the mix feels like 😁

I didn't find any existing scenario lists to be exactly what I wanted: more gameplay prompts that leave room for interpretation, and not so many strict rules or tasks or forced drama (my sims create enough of that as it is lol).

So I cherry-picked some scenarios that I liked, edited others, and created many new ones. A shout-out to @kayleigh-83 for this list that was a great starting point!

Night out: Visit a community lot after dark.

Bring your own basket: Visit a park with family or friends.

Movie marathon: Invite friends over for movies and snacks, or go on a movie binge by yourself.

Family matters: Invite over a relative or someone you share a similar bond with.

Fits like a glove: Wear a new accessory.

Games night: Set up a board game or fire up a console for an evening. PC owners can throw a lan party.

Burn off steam: Devote a day to exercising in any form.

Playing hooky: A child or teen skips one school day.

Online friends: Spend an evening chatting over the internet.

Fence-mending: Talk to a walkby you don't know or have a low relationship with.

Fertile ground: Get a new plant to your garden or other outdoor area.

Pulling strings: Use influence to your advantage.

Turning the page: Negative relationship effects are reduced for 48 hours and any existing fury states are cleared (get the 'forgiving' vacation benefit).

Meeting deadlines: Job performance is increased for 48 hours (get the 'industrious' vacation benefit).

Hot stuff: The attractiveness is increased for 48 hours (get the 'je ne sais quoi' vacation benefit).

On the ball: Skill, talent badge, and homework rates are increased for 48 hours (get the 'refreshed' vacation benefit).

Scatterbrained: Skill, talent badge, and homework rates are decreased for 48 hours (get the 'jetlagged' vacation penalty).

Bonfire night: Light up a bonfire with family or with friends.

ok Keeper fans, I want yall to give me all your headcanons about Sophie and her friends (including Stina) that might fit a human au

the brainrot is real and I'm writing fanfiction for the first time in 12 years and it's a human, college au (tho the setting isn't exact, they're gonna visit Everglen and the college is gonna be Foxfire but other than that I think I'm gonna leave it up to imagination if this is a world where the elven cities exist as human cities, like a random human city called Eternalia, or if they don't exist at all). It's sokeefe, with maybe some dexiana in the background. I have some ideas but I need more info to fully pad their characters (imagine two hands filling a Sophie Foster stuffie)

For Sophie I'm keeping her fashion sense mostly t-shirts, jeans and sneakers. Not super baggy but also not form-fitting. Kinda like, baggy tshirt tucked into straigh leg jeans vibes. Not super colorful either. She still doesn't feel comfortable standing out.

I remember in book 1 she was listening to rock so pls recommend rock bands (I'm more of a vibe girly so I'll listen to whatever has a good sound and dont follow many artists/bands themselves so I only know like the 70s-80s classics and some random songs I think are cool, like Seven Nation Army and How Far We've Come), but I dont want to make her feel like a pick-me/im-not-like-other-girls so I kinda want to make her like pop too. And I already decided she likes the Deadpool movies (bc Amy has an X-Men tshirt in Nightfall, and Sophie makes a Rogue reference), but also romcoms. Also I'm thinking her and Stina would be in college to become vets

Biana is ofc a girly girl, I'm imagining mostly skirts and dresses, some jeans every once in a while, but also very stylish, idk about shoes tho, pretty sure in canon she wears heeled boots everywhere, but irl heels are tiring so...maybe sandals? I also imagine her as more of a pop girly with an edgy side in both music and movies, bc in canon she's not a damsel in distress, so I'm imagining she's an Olivia Rodrigo fan (not saying that Olivia is edgy...idk if she's edgy, I like her music but I wouldnt dare define it, she just popped into my head, as I said, I dont follow artists that much), and she would like both romcoms and action/spies movies (bc vanisher). Part two of the platonic fake dating/marriage Sophitz headcanons pls 🥺

So you asked me this exactly 365 days ago I am so very sorry it took me so long to answer but here you go part 2 of fake marriage Sophitz!

* After they decide to get married they realize they should probably pretend to date so there are photos of them “dating” from throughout the years. During these “dates” all of their friends were off camera and they still all laugh about it to this day

* They host some of the best dinner parties, both formal and informal. Fitz always cook and is amazing at it because he got lessons from Eda, the gnomes and his mom. Sophie on the other hand is not trusted to be in the kitchen alone she once literally set a bowl of water on fire (there is a chance that Marella had something to do with that incident)

* Once there was a scheduling issue though and the majority of the councilors showed up at their house while they were both in pajamas and Sophie had to distract them while Fitz quickly prepared something

* Fitz once illegally went to forbidden cites and bought a box of human movies for Sophie. While she appreciated it they’re were some issues 1, they didn’t have a tv to watch the dvds so they took a trip to Dex’s and 2, Soph had only heard of like two of them

* The two of them took another illegal trip and found some movies that Sophie had actually watched in her childhood

* They ran into some random old classmate from Foxfire once and she said something along the lines of “I bet you feel so silly now because you two used to complain about the matchmaking system so much” and it took everything in Sophie and Fitz to not burst out laughing in front of their classmate

* Because their cognates they have a lot of mental conversations about how their so sneaky for having everyone believe in their relationship (they are very proud of themselves and have codes names for each other) but whenever this happens which is usually during nobility meetings everyone around them just watches them stare awkwardly off into the distance

* A couple of people have figured it out that these two don’t romantically love each other but they are the people that could not care less (Lady Cadence and Bronte are two of them)

* Sophie and Fitz don’t having wedding rings but they have cognate rings and say that their is no stronger bond than being cognates

* They have “date nights” but they just consist of two best friends doing random stuff and challenging each other to ridiculous bets because with each other they are some of the most competitive people EVER

* They mentor random kids from all the different elven schools but get almost nothing done and usually end up telling the kids random stories for their own kid/teen years

* Sophie has 100% taught Fitz all of the human songs she listened to as a kid. He mentioned this to Grady one day and they shared their confusion for human heavy metal.

* They no longer need bodyguards but Sandor and Grizel still stop by all the time and spend half the day making sure Sophie and Fitz’s house is safe.

Do you have any analysis or thoughts about the scene chapter 40 (Sophie sees the drawing green journal and that awkward conversation) sorry I just haven’t seen anyone discuss it yet

at first i didn't think this needed an analysis because it was a given what was going on - but i knew better than to let it slide and decided to give the scene a reread.

and oh boy.

if you yourself need a refresher, sophie has just come home from foxfire. keefe is under the panakes drawing after a training session with grady. sophie and keefe exchange their thoughts about their classes, the current stellarlune situation, and what keefe is drawing. keefe shows sophie that he drew ethan and eleanor's graves. during the discussion, keefe becomes frustrated and pushes the journals off his lap - flipping the green one open to the page where he had drawn sophie and fitz performing a cognate exercise.

sophie sees it as she is going to clean up the mess for him. she mentions that her and fitz's gazes are intense, but that's not what she's interested in: she's interested in how keefe drew her.

"Her hair was slightly messy, and her tunic was a little crooked, and she was slouching the way her human mom used to tell her would turn her spine into a twisty pretzel if she didn't work on better posture. But mostly, she looked like her. A little awkward. A whole lot nervous. Definitely not perfect. And... she kinda loved that about it."

this is all we get to hear from her before keefe snatches the journal away, feeling awkward that she discovered it. but this set of inner monologue holds a lot more weight than you think.

a) i want to focus really quick on the 'definitely not perfect' line. this is a direct tie-in to fitz.

only a handful of pages later, fitz and sophie complete their "cognate inquisition". during this, sophie enters fitz's 'core of verity' which is supposed to hold no defense mechanisms or barriers. it is a true reflection of one's self. sophie, on her journey to this place, sees herself in the center of fitz's mind. but unlike the drawing keefe created, this sophie is polished. she's posing, flashing a smile, looking undefeated... and perfect, as she mentions. but while fitz means well with the image, this pedestal and the woman on top of it is not her. it's not accurate to who she is in real life.

so, for sophie to witness the difference between how the two boys view her is huge. they both do have deep affection for her, but the lens they view her from is different. keefe has a camera; fitz has a microscope.

b) most people would cringe to be drawn in such an accurate, "flawed" light. sophie isn't gazing into the sunset looking blissfully aloof. she's not posing for the camera. she's caught in what most would considering an unflattering position. she's hunched, she looks 'awkward' and 'nervous'. her hair is messy, her clothes are crooked...

i can tell you little to no one who would want to be caught like that by their crush. but sophie doesn't shy from having keefe not only seen her that way, but record it - no, she enjoys it. she feels happy to share that side of herself with him. she's glad he gets to see the imperfect person she is. 

that right there just proves multiple things to me: how long this love has run without her really knowing it, how ready she is to be open in a relationship, and how real this connection is to her.

sophie doesn't desire something movie-worthy with him. she wants something real.
