It's interesting to see the differences in perception and reaction to alterhuman gear

Technically, this is a reminder that gear is not mandatory or a necessity in validating your identity <3

For me, wearing my tail is very euphoric - seeing my shadow, feeling the fluff against my hind legs, ect, I finally feel right in the body

But for Sin, wearing "xyr" tail was dysphoric and caused cognitive dissonance

It's likely because xyr tail in headspace/true tail is very mobile, responding to and communicating its emotions, while the gear isn't/can't

All in all, wearing gear distresses Sin, and that's perfectly valid - xyr identity is not any lesser because it doesn't/can't show it externally

Just thought we'd share <3

Some context

I am very very new to the misce community; my previous knowledge extended to omegaverse media

I am nonhuman (a fox holothere), and a lot of my behaviors/instincts fall under things common in the misce community, so I thought I'd explore and learn more about it

Literally last night I was triggered by seeing a video about fox hunting

Like, it's fucking terrifying and hurt so much

It's not my fault I'm a "pest" animal or a classic trophy hunt

It's always either unethical hunting or fur farming, interspersed with exotic pets

As a therian with a commonly hunted theriotype, I don’t see many alterhumans talking about how hard it can be to find pictures\videos of your theriotype\kintype\linktype\ect. without seeing dead animal photos.

I might just be overly sensitive, but I just want to see pictures of black coyotes without seeing a dead one as one of the first results. I know there’s not much I can do about it but still, it sucks :(

What yarn do y'all use for making tails?

I'm "too impulsive" and "not allowed" to buy a tail, but I caaaan make one, so if anyone has any advice or notes, I'd really really appreciate it (preferably a method that doesn't require sewing)

A mischievous little fox!

I'm so glad I finished my tail last night, 100% worth the lack of sleep

It has more weight/density than the one I bought, so it's very nice to wear - plus the colors are more accurate (/no hate to the seller, they did an amazing job and were very sweet)

sometimes my nonhumanity is a little doggy or perhaps a creature held in the lap of a friend

other times it's a loud, growling beast, whisking through the forest, catching prey and wearing the blood proudly on my muzzle.

sometimes, it's wearing a tail and collar in public, or making theta-delta buttons to give to my friends.

it's all still me, and it's all still valid.

🦴 ! There’s an assumption that all physical therians / holothere identify as an animal on a physical level due to autism, psychosis or due to forming an animal alter.

🐾 ! However, I rarely see people discuss how other aspects of mental health influence their animal identity. In my personal experience, I think that my obsessive compulsions and intrusive thoughts are a rather large part of my identity as a physical therian.

♟️ ! I struggle with compulsive skin eating, I have sustained great nerve damage and broken bones from this, however I cannot digest human flesh and often it comes back up shortly after.

🦴 ! I am then frequently met with the urge to feed my regurgitated flesh to my ‘pups’. Whilst I do not have any children or pets, due to hitting sexual maturity at the age of 7, I deal with incredibly overwhelming maternal instincts despite being a man.

🐾 ! I often see others want to discuss the ugly side of therianthropy, the aspects that repulse most other humans, yet outside of mild species dysphoria, I am yet to see more than a handful of creatures discuss these animalistic urges that aren’t ‘tiktok ready’.

♟️! I am a coyote through and through, not just in appearance or connection. I am more coyote than just a fluffy tail or tall ears, I am coyote in my behaviour and real life too.
