Daniel Jackson Whump List: Stargate (1994), Stargate Sg-1, The Ark of Truth, Continuum, & Atlantis

The other whump lists I’ve found for Daniel have been quite minimal so I decided to make my own since he is my latest hyper fixation.

Stargate: The Ark of Truth

Captured by Ori soldiers, captured again, dragged by guards, thrown into cell, cuts on his face, mentally tortured by Ori priest, shaking in pain, so weak he can’t sit up, crying/begging while speaking with Morgan Le Faye, thrown against a wall, holding his arm in pain (this movie also has plenty of Cam Mitchell whump if you like that kind of thing)

Thoughts: I actually really enjoyed this drama. I feel like some pieces of it were never explained like his mother, and he only talked about his father once. Outside of that, the story was really entertaining and, as you can see, filled with whump. Joo Won is a great whumpee, and I would suggest watching Stealer: the treasure keeper or Alice if you want more whump from him. For this list I started paying attention to Baek Nam-gu around episode 7 but there is an ep early on that shows his death. I don't really count death as whump so I didn't add it.

Back with the fact that blow my mind a few weeks ago (Dana scully is the same age now as Maggie scully was in 1993 or 1994 when Dana was abducted in Duane Barry)

I did some research and found that according to script Maggie Scully was 58 at beyond the sea (1x13) so when Dana abduction happened in Duane Barry (2x5) Maggie must be 59-60, give it or take.

(If she was 58 at beyond the sea that would mean she was born in 1935??? And that she died at age 79-81??? in Home again 10x4)

in 2023 Dana Scully turned 59 years old, more less, the same age her mother was when her abduction happened.

And if you want your heart broken you can acknowledge the fact that if emily lived she would’ve been 29 also this year 2023, same age her mom (Dana scully) was when she was abducted.

It actually really bothers me that Haley felt like she needed to apologize to Lucas after they had that fight and he got in an accident in 1x13. At no point do we see Lucas apologize or we hear anyone insinuate that he would need to apologize. It's all put on Haley's shoulders. Haley really has nothing to apologize about. She found out that Lucas was cheating on Brooke with Peyton and called him out for it. Lucas turned it back around on her and said some horrible things about her. The show tries to say that because it is revealed that Nathan had originally asked Haley to tutor him to piss off Lucas that it somehow makes what Lucas said alright. But it's not alright for a multitude of reasons. For one, Lucas did not know about Nathan's intentions so he was just speaking out of his ass and saying horrible things to Haley with no proof. For two, Lucas only brought that up to get the spotlight off of his own mistakes. He pulled the ole' deflection card and Nathan and Haley's relationship has nothing to do with his decision to two time/cheat on Brooke. For three, he was wrong. Regardless of what Nathan's original intentions were.... Nathan is a changed man and those are no longer his intentions (and they were only his intentions for a miniscule amount of time way before they even had their first date). I mean Haley had to know the truth and I'm not making excuses for what Nathan did all I'm saying is that it has nothing to do with Lucas' actions towards Brooke and Peyton and his words/actions are not negated by what Nathan did or didn't do and also they're not negated by the fact that he nearly died.

If Haley wants to bury the hatchet because she nearly lost Lucas, I get that. But she has nothing to be ashamed of.... she has nothing to apologize for... and Lucas should not get off scot free simply because he got in an accident.

Dnsvvdnfkjdk idk if you are also Druid (I call myself that tentatively as I'm still very much educating myself) but your comments on my recent post and a quick scroll through what you've posted recently has got me pumped about the Merlin/Arthurian/Pagan/Etc discussions - I feel like I've found my niche of the particular intersectional way I enjoy the show dnsbvdvdkclsljsj

yeah your post triggered me into digging out some old meta, haha

I'm not into druidism or paganism myself, no, but I like thinking of religion in Merlin from a worldbuilding perspective. The hints we get are fascinating — I think the scene that got me thinking was Merlin promising his sick mother that "the gods" would look after him (in 1x13), which implies he was raised as a polytheist by Hunith?

And then I started wondering about Arthur, given he did mention "God" (singular) a few times — but I don't think it's something the writers put a lot of thought into. I mean, the religious aspect in the show is all left deliberately vague, apart from the "Old Religion" stuff and mentions of gods that would be hard to link to any actual major religion practiced today.

I can see why that is, of course, but I like it when fanfiction writers delve into it — The Hands of a Hundred Winters, for example, is a fanfiction series that takes many of the premises of the series entirely seriously (which might be great for some readers and not so much for others — I happen to like it) and there's a couple of scenes in which Merlin and Arthur discuss religion which I was very intrigued by.

I'm (vaguely) aware of what happened historically in Britain, with Christianity replacing paganism, but in Merlin's fictional universe I like the idea of the nobility still observing some pagan celebrations, but with the most "offensive" elements removed — more of traditional celebrations that religious holidays. If that makes sense. Kind of like non-religious people "celebrating" Christmas.

I also like the idea of a class divide also marked by religious customs and beliefs — I can see rural communities like Ealdor being more in touch with pagan gods and elements of "the Old Religion" compared to the nobility.

And whatever "the Old Religion" was, Merlin doesn't seem to identify himself as one of its followers, despite being (vaguely) pagan — which means whatever beliefs Hunith observed were separate from it (though I imagine there were common elements).

It's just—! All that's left unsaid is so interesting to me actually! Bendrui and High Priestesses! A magical matriarchy!! I've got so many questions.
