It is my honour to present my ficlet for the @fellowshipofthefics Calendar with @frosticenow at the helm.

Dortha – lovingly called Dotty by her friends – gazed down into the small garden, nestled against the slopes of the mountain dreamily.

She was relieved that Kíli was otherwise occupied as it would have mortified her to be caught staring at Ori – a friend of a friend, so to say – without having any valid excuse for her persistence ready, and she couldn’t come up with one for the life of her.

Kí was no big help anyway; he had known the handsome scribe for many years and – after reconquering the Lonely Mountain side-by-side – they were more than just childhood acquaintances; they were fast friends. Hence it was easy for him to flippantly speak as if there was nothing easier than just walking towards the said hero and striking up a conversation; for Kí, it was probably really as natural as breathing.

Okay…I’ve been tagged in this several times, and…I don’t even have words 🥹

This will be so damn long, I apologise in advance!

1) Thorin

The first group to capture my heart and have my back. @lathalea @legolasbadass @linasofia @middleearthpixie @laurfilijames @xxbyimm @enchantzz etc, even if we don’t talk much, I’ll never forget how much you mean to me.

I'd no longer be here if you hadn't encouraged me to keep writing, and supported me so faithfully.

2) Fotfics

Beloved server, full of friends 🥺 I love each and everyone of you! Between @lordoftherazzles, @ahufflepuffhobbit, @sunnyrosewritesstuff, and @fantasyinallforms and all their hard work, something truly amazing has been built.

@lordoftherazzles and @scyllas-revenge in particular are such good friends, I can’t even begin to express how much they mean to me.

The community of writers and artists, the laughter, the comfort, the solidarity, and the sheer madness of it all? It gives me life every day!

3) Idols and role models

Beyond the already named, it turns out that some of the best authors are incredibly lovely people.

I take the risk of sounding presumptuous, but @ettelene, @polutrope, @cuarthol, @z-h-i-e, @maglor-my-beloved, @last-capy-hupping, and so many more big names are just wonderful 🥰

Being greeted and acknowledged by people you're in awe of? Incomparable feeling for someone who has been ignored, dismissed, and belittled all her life!

4) Art, Art, more Art

Oh there are too many artists to name them all. People who own my whole heart, and whose talent means EVERYTHING to me.

There are so many people who have been such important presences in my life in fandom from the start (@mysandwichranaway, @mathelaw, @estethell, @crowrelli, @shrimpsthings, @dodo-doodles, etc)

Then there are new and exciting (and dearly beloved) friends whose art makes my whole day like @lycheesodas, @the-red-butterfly, @sauroff, @sortumavaara, @fishing4stars, @elanna-elrondiel, @elennalore and many more)

(I have a limited number of tags...you know that I mean you! You do!)

Commissions, exchanges, collaborations...I can't express how it makes me feel to be in contact with brilliant, talented, inspired people and have them listen to my chaotic thoughts.

God, I love art!!!

5) IDNMT and events

You've all seen it happen...Besides the already named mods of events (TRSB, THAUC, S&D, TSF, different "weeks"), I want to point out @the-girl-with-the-algebra-book (my e-husband) and @frosticenow (who saved my 1st TRSB by gentle beta-ing) who are modding the Pin-up Calendar (There is also a not safe for Tolkien server...check it out!)

Moreover, the exceptional authors, artists, and readers I've met through events are so near and dear to my heart.

Events kill me, but they also keep me alive. They give me so much joy and a sense of accomplishment I've been chasing for many long years.

(S&D is an amazing event to see art by all your faves and get to meet them very casually)

6) How do I deserve this?

This is about best experiences...Shoutout to people like Wisteria and MoonLord, Missy M, and a handful of others who have read many a story written by me, and who always have a kind word for me afterwards. This keeps me going!

Other than that? The way Razzy loves (S)wiped out and Cílil loves Truce or Dare. I don't deserve that, but it makes me smile every time.

All in all...@cilil, @melkors-big-tits, and their insane but deeply touching support.

You, all of you, give me MORE than I ever thought possible when I started posting silly, little stories. I cannot thank you enough.

7) Bis zur Unendlichkeit...

Last but not least...An excellent experience in fandom? Meeting new people...

@elentarial, @violecov, @goschatewabn and @ruiniel for example have blown me away with their humour, wit, and creativity.

Encounters like that make me believe in better days to come. There is a world outside, and it's not necessarily rotten. Thank you for that!

I am sure I've forgotten some of the most important people, and they'll be terribly vexed (as is their right), but I am tired and I have a brain like a Swiss Cheese. Forgive me.

Hi there! I was just wondering if there are any lord of the rings/hobbit fic events you'd recommend for someone who's interested in started out writing fanfiction (for public consumption at least, I've been writing for myself for a while).

Big fan of you and your fics by the way, you're an inspiration.

First of all, thank you for the lovely comment 🥰🥰 that made me giggle and squeal so much!

I am so honoured, I don't even have the words to express it!

Nexxxxxt...Events, you say?

Right now, the sign-ups for THAUC (@fellowshipofthefics) are open, and I can only highly recommend it. The pairs (writer/creator/artist/etc) are hand-matched by an amazing mod-team. We're all very nice, and there is a bit of everything for everyone.

I have also been informed that there will be a "Second Harvest" for Scribbles and Drabbles (@fall-for-tolkien). There are over 200 wonderful artpieces for which you'll only have to write 100 words. It's a super fun and laid-back event, and absolutely perfect for an event-beginner.

In the past, there was also the HHH (Happy Hobbit Holiday), but I don't know if it will happen still. There's the Secret Santa event in December.

There are MANY, MANY excellent events, really, and you'd do wonderfully in any of them, I am sure.

If events sound daunting for now, I'd suggest checking out the various weeks (there are some for every ethnicity, gender, sexuality, book, pairing, etc etc).

The next on my calendar is the Smut Week (that's for the Silm though) (and maybe Kinktober).

As a matter of fact, in your place, I'd join the FOTFICS (@fellowshipofthefics) server, there is always someone who promotes the next big event. You could simply lurk and see if something catches your attention.

It's also the gateway for spicier collabs such as the Tolkien Pin-Up Calendar, MSV, and other sexy things, if that's something you'd be interested in!

Please, do not be shy! We have A LOT of LOTR and/or Hobbit fans, and I am sure that you'd find many like-minded people there!

Dortha – lovingly called Dotty by her friends – gazed down into the small garden, nestled against the slopes of the mountain dreamily.

She was relieved that Kíli was otherwise occupied as it would have mortified her to be caught staring at Ori – a friend of a friend, so to say – without having any valid excuse for her persistence ready, and she couldn’t come up with one for the life of her.

Kí was no big help anyway; he had known the handsome scribe for many years and – after reconquering the Lonely Mountain side-by-side – they were more than just childhood acquaintances; they were fast friends. Hence it was easy for him to flippantly speak as if there was nothing easier than just walking towards the said hero and striking up a conversation; for Kí, it was probably really as natural as breathing.
