No rest for the wicked... This is the sale version of FORTUNES which will be a little neater and crisper, and the undercoat for SAUNA OPEN LATE in yellow, which will also be made as doubles so I can sell one and keep one.
No idea how to price these, the material costs are about £5-10 (The boards are the smallest ones I buy and come in at about £4.50, then alu leaf is at most about £2, and then there's between 35 and 60ml of paint, thinners, and varnish per board which is at most £2, and then time is an incredibly fungible question because I don't really work for blocks of time, I just sort of drib and drab at it for half an hour at a time for a couple of weeks. I suspect the answer is 'put it on the stall and see what people want to pay'.

LU Psychic AU
Since I know I wont have the time/drive to write such a fic, here's my little thoughts on what psychic powers our boys would have in this here AU.
Time: Foresight. When he was younger, he was thought he was exceptionally good at reading opponent's moves, able to predict what they would do next. But as the years passed, Time would notice he would also dodge incoming projectiles coming from behind him, be it an arrow or a snowball. His ability makes him a monster on the battlefield, baffling his enemies since nobody can catch him off guard. It also makes him damn near impossible to prank much to the irritation of his younger counterparts.
Hyrule: Can talk to ghosts. An exceptionally useful ability as majority of ghosts are friendly and willing to offer information. It is woefully one-sided, leaving Hyrule to interpret the ghost's meaning (or MISinterpret) and leaving his companions to stand there, twiddling their thumbs, waiting for him to finish his conversation. It is also a very dangerous power as those who've died violent deaths will not hesitate showing their anger towards him.
Sky: Prophetic dreams. He doesnt really consider his powers useful since he can only get them when he sleeps, it doesnt happen every time he sleeps, and most of his prophecies are of things that will happen hundreds, if not thousands, of years from now. As a result, Sky has dreamt of his counterpart’s adventures and was wonderfully delighted to meet them finally. He’s currently struggling to talk to Wild because all of Sky’s recent dreams involve Wild losing his arm...
Warriors: Reanimation of corpses, the counterpart of Hyrule’s powers. Warriors can give life temporarily to corpses/bones, giving the deceased a chance to tell their own side of the story. He doesnt do it often as the others find the act disturbing. Majority of corpses know they’re dead and are delighted to finally to have a voice again, even for a short time. The beauty of the power is the body doesnt need a tongue or skin or even brains to speak. As long as Warriors has a piece of them, they have a voice.
Wind: Wind communication. His ability is not unique only him as nearly everyone on Outset island can speak through the wind. Some mornings the group will wake up and find their young Sailor standing on top of a hillside, his hands cupping around his ears as he listens. Sometimes he speaks back, allowing the wind to carry his voice away. It does not matter where/when the Sailor is, the wind will carry on his message until someone is ready to receive it.
Twilight: Animal speech. Twilight has a hard time describing his ability as animals do no speak/comprehend the same way as humans do. He can understand animals on their most basic of levels: if they’re hungry, if they’re cold, if they’re scared, etc. If tries to as a more complicated question like, “Which way is the town?” all he would get back is a blank stare. Only animals who have spent their lives surrounded by humans, like Epona, can hold conversations.
Wild: Empath. He can always tell who is friend or foe, who is Yiga or stranger, who is lying or telling the truth. He can sense when someone’s blood sugar is low which is why he will offer a sandwich at random times. Unfortunately if he comes across a battleground/graveyard or any place where violence has occurred, the negative emotions will overwhelm him, making him an easy target for possession. It is only thanks to his talismans, the Sheikah Slate and amber earrings, that can dull his senses enough to help him function.
Legend: Fortune telling. The man knows every style of fortune telling there is; tea reading, bone reading, palm reading, smoke reading, etc. This unfortunately makes him paranoid as something innocuous as a cat blinking twice can be interpreted as a negative sign. He carries many fortune reading tools on him, though his favorite is his well-loved tarot deck which he uses every night before bed.
Four: Psychometric. Four can touch an object and “read” that object’s past. It is one of the reasons why he is a phenomenal blacksmith. By touching a weapon, not only can he see exactly how the object was first formed and maintained through the years, if the weapon was formerly wielded by a master fighter, Four too can use those abilities. He has yet to touch the Master Sword, too afraid the long history and godly abilities could drive him mad.

Completely valid! You can do divination with anything. Literally with anything. A really good reader could probably look at cat’s litter box and read your future or fortune from it.
For cards, any deck does: tarot, a Lenormand deck, a playing cards deck or an oracle deck. Other options to use for divination like in the video are amulets (a bag full of trinkets you read), stickers, regular postcards, collectible cards (like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon), and hand written notes you can do yourself.
Even I have a card deck with is just small postcards of bunnies. I use it regularly in my readings, both for myself and my clients. I plan to buy a few more of such small postcard sets for divination.
If you want to dive even deeper into divination, there are probably millions of ways to read messages; pendulum, runes, eggs, blood, ink, water, fire, candles, candle wax, nature like cloud scrying, bones (bone tossing), tea leaves, coffee grounds, dice, mirrors (esp. scrying mirrors), astrology, facial features, palm reading, photos of people, items belonging to the person who is getting the reading, picking self written words out from a bag, 8 ball... I personally even use coin tossing for quick YES/NO questions.
Whatever works for you, have fun with it :3 As long as you and the device you are using speak the same language, anything goes.

GVF as witches headcanons part 1: Sam
I'm doing this in parts cause I feel like making y'all who live by this au cry. Also I did come up with this au so if you have you're own head canons to share feel free to send me asks about them. Also the mood boards I made as well on @gvf-edits
He's a star witch which means he studies thing like fortune, tarot, bone reading, palm reading, star reading, astrology, tea leaves, etc.
He's an astrology bitch so he's always going around saying some planet is in retrograde and it's some zodiac sign season as an excuse for everything
He will often times read tea leaves in front of everyone else and depending on what it says he will reply with a simple "it's a bones day" or "it's a no bones day"
He and Jake are the only ones who wear the witch hats, Sam loves to decorate his with flowers and crystals
His favorite crystal is amethyst and always wears a necklace with an amethyst pendant
He loves picking herbs outside with Danny or Josh
He casually talks to fae which scares the shit out of everyone else accept Jake who literally works with the devil so... Ya know
He's typically very accesorised, especially with some sort of helpful properties. Necklaces with crystals, herbs, essential oils, etc
He takes absolutely no shit from ghost, he will not just burn sage to get rid of them, he will flat out chuck it if that's what it takes
He's very intuitive when it comes to energy. You basically cannot lie to this man cause he can read you like a book
When you do try to lie to him and he can't tell he lifts down his purple tinted sunglasses and stares at you so passive aggressivly with one eyebrow raised
I hope you guys liked them! I'll definitely be making more later

A Witch Dives into Divination
When someone mentions divination, does it conjure the image of the stereotypical gypsy from mainstream books and movies adorned in scarves that have gold coins sewn into the fringe in a dimly lit red caravan? Is there a crystal ball on a table for the gypsy to peer into and see your future? An empty cup of tea with the tea leaves left behind to make sense of the images within? Perhaps some small bones, or rocks with runes carved into them spilling out of a black velvet bag? Maybe trying to decipher the lines on your palm will give you insight into your love life? The list of divination methods go on and on. Fortune tellers are just experts at reading body language, right? They speak in generalizations to bait the customer to reveal more information so that they can, then build the reading off of the imparted information. While there are charlatans out there that are only trying to make money off of unsuspecting customers, there are also honest readers and I’m sure they don’t appreciate the stereotype.
Divination has been practiced in one form or another for millennia. That really piqued my curiosity. It has been around for so long, and practices typically don’t endure the test of time if they don't work. Maybe there actually is something to this. I decided now that my practice is out in the open, I should at least study divination even if I didn’t plan to incorporate it into my practice since it has been a useful tool to others. As a student of witchcraft, I felt it best to experience it for myself and not to just read about the subject before drawing my conclusions. I wanted to see if this was real first hand. I decided to start with Tarot. Decks, books, and online resources are abundant, not to mention the cards are just beautiful to look at.
Tarot began in the medieval period as a game called Tarocchi played by Italian nobles that morphed over the centuries into the divination system we know today. The cards grew from their original four suits when the trionfi (trump cards) were added sometime during the fifteenth century which would become later known as the Major Arcana. These new cards weren’t just simple cards only depicting the number and suit, these new cards were diverse in their symbols and the illustrations that represented them. It is believed that, after the Major Arcana was added, the cards began to be used by some not just for entertainment but for divination purposes as well. However, during the rise of the Roman Catholic church and its influence over leadership across the world, many occult and pagan practices, such as divination, receded into the shadows for fear of being declared heretical and suffering the accompanying punishment. Before the invention of the printing press, decks were handmade and most were lost to the ravages of time. Some of the oldest specimens that exist today, examples of the Tarot of Marseilles, are decks that were created by use of the printing press during the early 1700’s. This style of deck still used the simple designs of the four suits, the Minor Arcana, assigning Roman numerals to the cards in the Major Arcana and is the prototype to the cards we see today. The printing press allowed multiple decks to be created in less time than creating them by hand. Because of this innovation, Tarot began to spread more rapidly than ever before across Europe, but still remained in the fringes of acceptable society.
Over the years, I had seen fleeting images of Tarot cards but didn’t pursue more information regarding them since I wasn’t openly practicing. I had read that you needed to be gifted your first deck but that did not make sense to me. Who would give a deck to me? I didn’t know anyone else interested in Tarot. I could ask for a deck as a present but who knew when or if that would actually happen. I had also read that you need to connect with the deck and part of that is through the imagery of the artwork. What if I didn’t connect with a deck that I was gifted? I didn’t want to waste time or money. I said to myself, “I’m a modern witch! I’m taking matters into my own hands. I don’t need to wait for someone to give me a deck as a present, I can give myself a gift.”
After that realization, I knew I needed to select a deck. I was surprised at the immense number of different decks available. I spent days watching YouTube videos where the content creator would flip through decks showing the imagery of each card. After seeing so many styles of artwork and learning about the various types of Tarot decks. I opted to learn to read the Rider-Waite Smith imagery and went with the Radiant Rider-Waite Smith deck from US Games. I decided to go with this artwork because it is the most widely utilized imagery for modern Tarot decks. There are established interpretations of these cards readily available with some slight variations here and there, but generally speaking, the cards interpretations are fairly consistent. While I’m curious about Thoth Tarot, I thought it best to explore that later since the majority of decks and books available are for the Rider-Waite Smith imagery. Now that I had my deck, I was ready to rip into it and start reading but I decided to wait. Being the practical student of the craft that I am, I decided to verify which lunar cycle is purported to be best for divination. Of course, it wasn’t the phase that I was currently in, it would be the Full Moon. Luckily for me, I only had to wait a few days.
Even though I had my doubts, I still wanted to give it an honest chance. The evening of the Full Moon finally came and I was able to set some time aside so that I wouldn’t be disturbed. Because of my hidden practice that I had recently brought into the open, I didn’t know any of the card meanings and I thought this a benefit to me as I wanted to do this reading solely on intuition. However, I did have a book at the ready if at the end I couldn’t intuitively interpret the meaning of the cards and to see if my interpretation was in line with the consensus. I unwrapped the deck from the plastic overwrap that protected it. I cleansed the deck with the smoke of my incense and consecrated it for use in my practice. I meditated with the deck for a few moments before shuffling, allowing my energy to flow over the cards. Tarot cards tend to be a little larger than standard playing cards and can be a challenge to shuffle for those with smaller hands. I used a combination of shuffling styles to really mix them up. Then after cutting the deck several times with my left hand (traditionally used because it is connected with the side of your brain that controls creativity and intuition), I fanned the cards out and ran my left index finger over the cards, stopping when a particular card caught my attention. There are many acceptable methods for selecting cards for a reading. Since I was a skeptic, I opted to work with a complete random pull of cards. If the deck really wanted to tell me something, it was going to have to work for it. For this first reading, I decided on a Past, Present, Future spread to see how accurate it could be. The skeptic in me wanted proof that Tarot wasn’t just a parlor trick. I turned over the first card, the Two of Pentacles represented my past. A person juggling two golden pentacles in an infinite dance. Uh…two months prior I had decided to leave my job of 20+ years and change career fields entirely. I’d gone through a lot of changes financially in that time. I opened the book to see if I was on the right track. If you are not familiar with Tarot, the pentacle suit is often associated with things concerning money, career, material security and what keeps you grounded. I turned over the next card, symbolizing the present, The High Priestess. The image of her sitting in her sacred space with symbols of her practice brought to mind inner wisdom and divine knowledge. I was learning to listen to my inner voice again now that I was openly practicing witchcraft; that innate knowledge that I had banished to the dark confines of my mind years ago. I again referred to the book, confirming this card represents divinity, your intuition, and spirituality. It often appears in readings when needing a reminder to listen to that internal guidance. Okay, you’ve got my attention now. I reached a tentative hand out to turn over the third card, my future, not sure if I wanted to glimpse what might be there. The Magician appeared, relief flooding through me. It gave me the confirmation that I was on the right path. The image of the practitioner at his altar, one hand pointing skyward, one to the ground evoked an image of balance. I verified in the book that The Magician is a representation of willpower and having the confidence in the ability to manifest desires. A person that steps into their own power. I was left utterly astounded. I just sat there with my mouth agape. My mind was whirling with activity. How? They're just cards! It had to be a fluke! That’s just not possible!
I’ll admit that this reading had left me a little shaken and I didn’t pick the deck up again for a few weeks. I analyzed and reviewed the spread again and again. Had I been projecting? I hadn’t had to look at those cards for more than a second that first time to understand what each was symbolizing. What I read in my resources only confirmed my interpretation. The Two of Pentacles specifically symbolizes adapting to change and balance. I had recently made the decision to leave my current employment because it was not work that I wanted to do anymore; I needed to restore the balance in my life by heading in a new direction. The High Priestess symbolizes connecting with the divine and your intuition, which I was actively working on. And the Magician represents where I intend to be in the future with my practice and my life. I had to see if that was just a coincidence. The next spread and each subsequent one I have completed since, have further cemented my belief that all objects in this world are connected by energy. The person requesting the reading imparts energy to the deck and in turn the deck shows that person a lesson they need to learn. I have not had to struggle to understand the meaning of an individual card, and in turn how these cards relate to one another within the spread, and how they correlate to the question posed. The cards have helped me immensely in my shadow work, forcing me to recognize parts of myself that I did not want to acknowledge. It has made me contemplate issues that I have been struggling with for years. Tarot has been honing my mind to search out and listen to that inner voice that was buried for so long.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines divination as “the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers or as unusual insight or intuitive perception”. So, while many stop at the beginning of that definition and think that divination is just fortune telling and trying to see into the future, they totally miss the larger part of what divination actually is, using intuitive perception. A lot of what we need to know is information that we already have but can’t access at a conscious level. These divinatory methods aid us in bringing forth that knowledge to our conscious mind. Another point to keep in mind, some insinuate that Tarot cards tell the future. However, that is not accurate. In the spread, if there is a card that is to be considered the outcome or the future, it truly is only a possibility. It is simply what could happen (or not happen, depending upon the question or situation posed for the spread) if the advice given through the reading is not taken to heart.
So, can Tarot cards tell you your future? In my opinion, no, that's not their purpose. Their purpose is to help you divine needed information and in that process could show you a possible future outcome. Key words there, could and possible. They help you tap into your intuition and are a very useful tool that I intend to explore further and will most likely stay a part of my practice. I did not start out thinking that I was going to really enjoy divination. I can say that I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’ll be quite honest, I had no qualms saying that I didn’t think it was real. While yes, I believed in magic in the sense that there are energies that we are able to manipulate around us, I still wasn’t ready to dive in and believe that some card, bone, or stone could tell me anything worth knowing. I can now say how completely wrong I was and can’t wait to deepen my study of Tarot and to learn other forms of divination as well.
Tarot is yet another reminder that all things in this world are connected energetically. I’m a modern practitioner and thought certainly I was the furthest thing from that stereotypical image. Well, I am a witch, I do have Celtic and Eastern European origins, and I also like the nomadic lifestyle, so maybe, I’m just a little closer than I originally thought…

🎵 ♡!!
hey! apologies for how late this is, i hope you like it!
position: dual vocalist and dancer, you're good at both. also you're the well loved maknae! also you work closely with producers for lyrics and the concept itself -- creative designers look to you for ideas on how best to use and/or read the tarot cards into a sequence
group name: HIGH SPIRITS (regarding to the positivity that your group radiates and are known for, AS WELL as the idea of 'spirits' and seances that often go hand in hand with your concept) there are 8 members and your group is divided into 2 units -- the major arcana (the older 4 members -- king, queen, knight, and jack) and the minor arcana (the younger 4 members -- swords, wands, cups, and pentacles)
concept: fortune telling concept! each concept teaser isnt actually just a picture -- theyre all tarot cards, and they add up to what the music video is going to be about, or whatever the concept is for thst comeback. theres also a concept film that begins with a crystal ball
debut song: your debut song is all about who you (as a group) are as people -- it focuses on your soul and what you mean to the world around you. it has a slow and deep/dark beat and lots of harmonies, but its not a ballad. im thinking similar seventeen's pseudo ballads -- without you, dont wanna cry, thanks, etc. or since i saw you prefer bts similar to black swan? that kind of vibe
fun fact: at your fansigns, instead of answering questions or having short conversations with your fans (which u still do ofc) each member provides a different telling of the fans fortune! for example, one member may read palms while another may read tea leaves or cracks in animal bones. this means you can only have a certain amount of people at your fansigns, but that makes it ever so much more charming and/or lucky feeling
send me a 🎵 and ill create a kpop group with you in it, based on your blog!!
#replies#answered#i tried to make this a bit more longer and detailed for you#since i forgot this was in my askbox lol sorry

NAME: Divination
ALSO KNOWN AS: Fortune Telling, Omen Reading
ORIGIN: Divination has been featured in some of the oldest texts ever written; it’s in the Bible, it was done in Ancient Greece with the help of Oracles, and it was done in ancient South American civilizations. The idea of being able to see the future has always been a fairly universal one, and it still persists today in some circles. Tarot card reading and palm reading are among the most common types, though their effectiveness can certainly be questioned.
DESCRIPTION: Not just any old person with a tarot card reading booth is capable of true divination. They may get small, nearly unperceivable inklings about certain things, but larger predictions or magical insights can only be made through the use of different, and often bloodier techniques. Diviners are considered spellcasters, though some believe divination should not be listed among the schools of magic. It’s far more of an innate ability than something that can be learned; if someone has never shown a proclivity towards divination, they’re highly unlikely to ever be able to do so. There is a genetic component to it as well, even specific enough that the child of an oneiromancer is more likely to be an oneiromancer themselves, rather than a haruspex. Divination may be extended to mean more than just foreseeing the future, and can include magical insight into past or present events.
TECHNIQUES: Though gazing into crystal balls, and reading tea leaves and life lines on palms are perhaps the most well-known methods of divination, they are also the most subject to error. As a general rule, the more gruesome and painful the technique, the more accurate the result will be. Here are some of the more common techniques used by the supernatural community (players not limited to these):
Abacomancy: Abacomancy is a general term for receiving insight from patterns found in dirt, silt, sand, or dust. Compared to many of the methods below, it’s not as accurate. This tends to be mocked by diviners who practice some of the more gruesome forms of divination.
Alomancy: Very similar to abacomancy, but instead of using dirt, the alomancer uses salt. This can be table salt or other kinds of salt. Some alomancers also use the assistance of fire, throwing the salt into it.
Anthropomancy: Anthropomancy is by far the most accurate method of divination possible. Unfortunately, it requires ritual human sacrifice, which most diviners are unwilling to do. When a person is slaughtered in a specific manner, their body and blood may be utilized by the diviner to determine almost anything about that person’s past. While the already-deceased can be used, it may impact accuracy.
Causimomancy: Sometimes called pyromancy, causimomancy deals with fire, but in a very specific way. A casuimomancy throws objects of importance into a specially ignited fire to “read” them, determining what has, or is currently happening to the owner of the object. The more value (not monetary value) the object has, the more accurate the result.
Haruspicy: Haruspicy has similarities with anthropomancy, but instead of a human or humanoid subject, harupsicy uses an animal. The haruspex (someone who practices haruspicy– plural: haruspices) examines the entrails of animals that have either been found dead, or slaughtered by the reader in question. The latter results in more accurate predictions, but the former can be relied upon with a decent amount of accuracy.
Oneiromancy: Oneiromancers are readers of dreams. Though the standard dream doesn’t usually have a significant meaning (unless the person in question is a precognitive species), oneiromancers are able to relax the mind of the subject and lull them into a special state of sleeping, where their subconscious can be observed by the practitioner. Oneiromancers themselves may also be able to have significant dreams when falling asleep under certain sets of circumstances. Dreams oneiromancers have or induce do not typically tell the future. Merely, they allow someone to see clearly the information they already have, and extrapolate meaning from it. They can also be used to clearly see the dreamer’s past.
Osteomancy: The use of bones in making predictions. These can include the bones of animals, or the bones of humans/humanoids. Many osteomancers receive their insight specifically by throwing, tossing, or even destroying the bones. Using animal bones can allow someone to make general predictions, while using human/humanoid bones will allow them to make predictions about the futures of the people closest to the deceased. For example, performing osteomancy with the bones of a recently deceased father might allow the diviner to predict the fate of the mother or child.
LIMITS & RISKS: The biggest risk and precaution with divination is accuracy. Even the most accurate methods of divination sometimes fail, either resulting in unclear readings, no reading at all, or a reading that simply doesn’t come to pass. Certain methods of divination may have a dangerous component to them, either for the diviner or the subject. For example, an oneiromancer may be particularly vulnerable while in someone else’s dream or dreaming themselves, and an anthropomancer could wind up in enormous trouble if caught.

Professing
I was chatting with a friend today about all manner of things including long term plans. He remarked that in the last couple of years, any psychic or reader that he has gone to has been unable to tell him much about what lies ahead. I asked him if he knew what it was he wanted exactly from his future and he replied that he really didn’t, and perhaps that is the problem.
It’s fair to say that we are all at least a little curious about what lies ahead. It would help with budgets and planning for a start. Maybe having advance knowledge of the winning lottery numbers in next week’s draw wouldn’t hurt, but then if that were possible, why aren’t all psychics wealthy and retired? And why do so many lottery winners end up miserable?
To be healthy and safe and cared for is likely enough of a future goal for most folks, and yet a surprising number feel that they are none of those things. They long in fact to feel that they matter in the world, that they have value, that there will simply be someone there should they find themselves in trouble or in need. Perhaps a goal we might consider is one that allows us to check in and make sure that no one we know feels that way. It’s fairly easy to let someone know that they matter and are supported; you tell them. If not in words than in small gestures: a hug for no reason, an actual phone call out of the blue, a small pot of posies left on a doorstep. Allowing the light of your genuine smile to warm a wordless conversation. All of these are so do-able. We know how we feel when we are in receipt of any of them. Your own future will undoubtedly be comprised of many such tiny moments that matter.
The future big picture is often the stuff of dreams. A second honeymoon paid for not just in hard-earned savings, but in runny noses and dubious report cards, teaching teenagers to drive and the holding of breath as they launch themselves into the world. That little getaway cabin or condo that you might run to when life is just annoying. The sports car you’ve been dreaming of since before you could drive. Those incredible grandchildren born finally, sometimes against all odds. The later-in-life love affair.
Think back over the last year of your life. The highs and the lows. The sideswipes and the unexpected thrills. What if anything might have changed if you had been given a program of events at the top of that year, before it all actually happened? It could have been great to have avoided the fender-bender downtown by knowing to take a different route to work on a given Monday, no hassle with insurance and repairs and chiropractor appointments for that pesky whiplash. But it could also take the fun right out of your birthday presents. How much would it have been worth to you to have a head’s-up? And if you knew what was coming and avoided the challenges, what might it have given you as a person? Might it have made you a bit smug, or just more fearful?
The Ancients employed all manner of divination; runes, bones, shooting stars, failing crops, special cards, herbal concoctions, tea leaves, and clues from the animal kingdom. As I was growing up, I remember being told that if a bird flew into the window, someone would soon die. That if the palm of my hand itched, it would likely be graced with money. That if I spilled the salt at supper, a pinch of it thrown over my shoulder would keep the devil from my door. Omens. Portents. Clues to what secrets lay in my future. Admit it, you still do the thing with the salt, right? I have been known to make wishes on stars too.
What about those unsettling feelings we all experience from time to time? That “gut feeling”, or sixth sense or hunch. There are moments we find ourselves just knowing, whether it’s a sense of deja vu or hearing the phone ring and being 100% certain of who is calling even if you haven’t heard from them in ages. Some of it may be explained away as leftovers of a time when we were wild things and our lives depended on our senses being keen. A prickling of the hairs on the back of the neck, a tiny sound altering what we are used to hearing in the symphony of living. That weird little whoosh of adrenaline that says a hungry lion is hunting and we’d best skedaddle, now!
We’ve all met people who just seem to somehow know stuff we don’t. Usually they don’t call themselves psychic at all, their knowing-ness is just as much a part of them as the colour of their eyes. Sometimes they even hide their talents for fear of being either laughed at or pestered unduly. Do we all have that ability? Can it be taught? How would it affect my choices and the way I move in the world if I could predict beyond the horizon of what my five basic senses tell me is currently true? And what if I turned out to be wrong?
I have certainly had my share of tarot readings. I follow my horoscope, and I’ve sat in a few booths at psychic fairs. They have resulted in both wonderful coincidences and spectacular misses. I remain intrigued either way. I just like the idea that there are people in the world who seem to be able to operate on a separate plane of consciousness at will. It makes me wonder about parallel universes and time travel and an afterlife. About collective energies and higher beings. Even flipping a coin to make a decision is kind of a way of asking for Universal input under the guise of chance. Maybe it’s just tantalising mystery crossed with tempting Fate. I like the hints of wisdom, even if they come disguised as magic.
What do we want from the future? How much effort would we be willing to put forth towards actively cultivating a flourishing reality from just the seed of a hint? What obstacles might we more bravely face head-on if we were guaranteed a payoff? What would we run from? Would it make us single-minded and less conscious of those around us? Would it be worth it, having life all mapped out and not really being able to change the trajectory of those certainties?
I have long accepted that I have a catastrophising streak in me, and with age I have also learned to quickly talk myself off the ledge, thank heavens. I suspect too much knowledge about what lies ahead would make me even more nuts and ready to hide in the bushes. I love to have fun with prediction and divination, especially when it comes from someone who has actually studied the culture and context of whatever form they are practising. The “good” prognosticators that I have come across have rarely made hard-fact bets on anything, instead they have offered fresh perspective and asked me to consider soul-searching questions, or suggested exercises and readings to help to tune in and focus. I do find those things very helpful, and they don’t leave me feeling I am at the mercy of a predetermined road map.
From the future, I would like the following: to meet people who inspire me to be the best of myself; to leave my worn-out baggage behind, to be challenged enough to actually learn new things, and to be able to spot small miracles in everyday living. I want to be surprised. I want to giggle and guffaw over foolish absurdities, my own and everyone else’s. I want to be shaken up once in a while, even if it means being sad or scared or wrong. I want to alternate between restful observance and meeting the future head-on, eyes open, engines revving. I want some awareness of my own progress as a tiny humble cog in a massive human Wheel of Fortune. I want to look over my shoulder and remember where I have come from and feel good about the journey, hoping that it’s still a long way from over, but even if it’s not, that the ride has been worth every minute. I want to be able to talk about it with anybody else who finds themselves wondering and wandering. I want to put one foot in front of the other, in hope and trust. I find it helps if we remember to just hold hands now and then, as we go.

[Ficlet] Sea-Longing
Urban fantasy/human(ish) AU Eng/f!Port. Saying much more for this is a spoiler, but it’s pretty much safe-for-work fluff. Gloria is f!Portugal.
Gloria had had her fortune read once, when she was nineteen, home from university for the summer and burnt by the hot sun and her relatives’ expectations for her future. Tarot.
It’d been Toni’s fault that the teller had read the cards looking for a prediction of Gloria’s love life; he’d been teasing her about their grandmother asking her before when she was going to bring a nice boy home. So Antonio had draped himself out over Gloria’s shoulders like an unwelcome blanket, her in a tank-top, him naked from the waist up, their skin sticking together with summer sweat, and asked the tarot-reader what the cards had to say about Gloria and love.
Tarot cards are not terribly direct things, building upon information already known to grasp at answers. To Gloria, they had just been pictures, but the fortune-teller had told their stories for Gloria and Antonio to hear. Major arcana cards, cups, many cups. Ace of cups. Ten of cups. Knight of cups. The Lovers. Gloria forgets the details, but the reader tells her that her future is full of love, with a heartfelt suitor, and tied to the element of water. Perhaps she’ll love a sailor.
Arthur is not a sailor. Arthur is not a sailor, but eight years on from tarot-readings his lips taste of salt when he comes home to her with the dim light of nautical dawn grey and hazy through her windows. He kisses Gloria awake with his soft mouth and softer, cooler fingertips cradling her cheeks, his fair hair falling in half-damp wisps across her forehead.
Though she hates waking early, Gloria loves those mornings, smiling before she’s awake. Arthur is very easy to wind into her bed, bare skin under borrowed clothes only warming when it rubs against her own body, and his strong hands are always at their most delicate when they trace the shape of her ribs beneath the covers, the muscles of her hips and thighs, before they sweep back up across her belly, across her breasts before cupping her face once more, leaning in again to kiss her sleep-crusted eyelashes. Nose. Mouth.
“Do I pass muster?” Gloria asks him, if only to open her eyes to the low rumble of laughter that presses through Arthur’s chest to her own, a lullaby-song like the sound of the distant ocean.
“Your beauty dazzles me,” Arthur tells her, and proprietarily pushes one of his cold thighs between her much warmer ones. He has a crooked smile, pressing it to Gloria’s palm when she raises a thumb to rub away the rough salt crystals still clinging to his cheeks, feeling the scratch of them under the pad. In the pre-dawn light, even his sea-green eyes gleam silver. “Even when you drool.
Gloria shoves the heel of her palm into his nose until he apologises, and, when she falls asleep again, it is with Arthur in her arms, his spine curved into her front and her mouth still smiling against his nape.
Naturally, when she wakes up again with the noon sun spilling across her floor, Arthur has already left the bed, but the bathroom is still steamy with condensation and the damp clothes he must’ve worn to get to her house have been left to air before being put in with the rest of the dirty laundry. The rest of the house, when Gloria emerges into it, has been similarly tidied; still sleepy, she has to squint at the bright reflection of the sun on her (offensively) squeaky-clean draining board, and then squint again when she has to actually go into her bread bin to get out the rolls she had been quite happy to leave out on her bench two days before.
When they had told Gloria’s family that Arthur worked as a freelance editor and occasional writer for a magazine in England - something that is actually true, although Gloria’s family had not been told just how little of Arthur’s disappearances from Portugal are for Arthur’s work -, Gloria’s mother had joked that at least Arthur’s job made sure that he had plenty of time to keep the house clean whilst Gloria was away.
Gloria had laughed at the time, accustomed to her mother’s jokes about how her only daughter kept the chicken coop in her garden in better order than her own house - but every time Arthur does come home, he cleans. Gloria is a little untidy - things get put away, generally, but not always in the correct place -, but she hardly lives in a pit of squalor. Arthur deep-cleans her house anyway, starting with general tidying and washing down benches and walls, sorting through and handling the laundry, and vacuuming. The chickens are a bit wary of him so the most he can do for the coop is feed them on those days when Gloria is too busy - or sleeping - to, but the rest of the garden usually ends up looking so immaculate Gloria’s neighbours stop treating her like the repentant Mary Magdalene when she turns up to share some of her chickens’ eggs with them and more like they haven’t had to return her skirt, heels, and a used bra to her the day after her friends have gotten her spectacularly drunk on a summer night out and she stripped off whilst tottering up her own garden path at three am. More than once.
Arthur smells like warm dust and sun and Gloria’s bodywash when he traipses in barefoot from whatever he’s been doing to her neglected garden, earth and green chlorophyll under his nails. Gloria opens her arms happily to him for another hug, but her shoe-hating sweetheart side-steps her with a grin to wash his hands in the sink. Gloria wraps herself around him from behind instead, pressing her forehead to his shoulder and letting her hands slip over the sharp edges of his hipbones under his soft, faded shirt. (She is, most likely, getting breadcrumbs stuck under his clothes, but that is his cross to bear, not hers.) Like this, he is so pointy. All soft, smooth skin, lithe muscle and evident bones beneath.
“Mama thinks I never feed you,” Gloria says, digging her face into Arthur’s shoulder and inhaling the scent of him, his warmth, with shameless indulgence. It’s been a month and a half since she saw him last, and three days longer than that since they were like this - since he was like this. Human. Hers. “You’re so thin.”
Arthur hums, tipping his head so his cheek presses companionably on the top of her head - they both know he’s only this slim some of the time, shedding his weight the moment he puts pale pink toes on Portuguese shores. “Shouldn’t have told her I can’t cook, then.”
Gloria pouts very dramatically at him. “I did not tell her you couldn’t cook; I told her you burnt scrambled eggs and tried to hide the ruined saucepan in the bin.” The only times Arthur is fat are when he cannot eat his own cooking, but none of these are things Gloria can explain to her mother.
“Once,” says Arthur, and turns around in Gloria’s grasp before she can get a good grope in on one of his thighs so he can hold her in return. He wipes his hands off on her shirt because he is terrible.
“Scrambled eggs, querido,” says Gloria, and grins at the beginnings of a pretty pink blush on Arthur’s cheeks, settling for cheerfully groping his butt in their new position instead. Is still grinning as he kisses her, soft approving noises slipping out of her at his thumbs stroking her throat, his nails scratching a shiver through her nerves before he has his fingers in her sleep-tangled hair.
This, moments like this, whether they are in the bed or the garden or like this, Arthur bracketed up against the sink as they both kiss themselves dizzy, make the times when Arthur is away more bearable. Also remembering all the times when Arthur has been an inconsiderate dick, but Gloria likes to dwell on the happier things when sea-longing drags her down to the beach.
Arthur forever leaves the smell of the ocean on her pillows and sand in her sheets. He leaves dirty laundry and half-full mugs of cold tea about her house when he goes, and when he comes back he brings gifts: pretty rocks and seashells, sea-glass, expensive seafood and two dead ducks only lightly chewed. He brings back stories of what he’s done whilst he’s been gone and where he’s been, and he, most tenderly, brings back a long strip of silvery-brown cloth, lightly spotted, warm from his own body and so infinitely precious that it had taken two years for Arthur to even allow Gloria to glance at it, let alone know where he put it whilst he was with her.
Half of another year, and Arthur had let Gloria touch it, warm, smooth softness under her palm. Sealskin. A harbour seal’s skin, uma foca-comum, to be more precise, so strange to see so far south.
Half of another year again, and Arthur had awkwardly but gratefully accepted the old unused jewellery box Gloria had offered him to place the skin inside when he came to see her, a reasonably sized wooden thing, with a small lock and key that was Arthur’s to hide or keep. Gloria had left the house for a few hours - food shopping - to give Arthur plenty of time to hide the jewellery box somewhere, but when she had returned home and placed her bags down he had taken her hand and showed her where the jewellery box had been tucked away, nestled amongst her winter scarves and gloves like a small animal hibernating for winter.
Around that point they had stopped saying Arthur was visiting her - instead, Arthur had started coming home.
They had met four years ago, then again three and a half years ago - and then, after that, the longest Arthur had been away from her had been three months. This past year, he has never been gone longer than a month and a half, but his average time away from Gloria is only two weeks. Mostly he leaves for a day or two. Once, he had only been gone three hours.
Gloria’s family are starting to look at Gloria’s hand for a ring. Gloria does not know how to ask her family - or the government, or a priest - about the legality of marrying a selkie. She has never even asked Arthur if he has a passport, or where he was born. So you turn into a seal? had mostly put all the other important questions out of her mind.
Also her slight hysteria the first time she had actually seen Arthur don his skin and turn into a seal, followed up by the still slightly-delirious cooing at how cute and chubby her seal boyfriend is as a seal, and her immediate need to shower kisses on her seal boyfriend’s wet nose.
The seal thing really is quite distracting.
Harbour seals are one of the species of pinnipeds that are not monogamous. The fact - too - occasionally crosses Gloria’s mind when she’s driving on her way to work, the ocean glittering in her field of view and her mind still too sleepy to immediately dismiss nonsense. Not counting seal, Arthur speaks English, French, reasonable Spanish and enough Portuguese to charm Gloria’s family and make her blush; he has more than enough words in enough languages to seduce a pretty girl or boy somewhere else Gloria doesn’t know, someone who lives further north by waters that it is not so weird to see a harbour seal swimming in. Arthur always swims north when he leaves her, he’s told her so; the colder streams of the Atlantic must help bring him to his senses.
Then again, Arthur’s awkwardness and snappishness when provoked by people other than Gloria would suggest he’d have better luck attempting to seduce a grumpy walrus than another human.
Gloria is not sure what her feelings would be about losing her selkie boyfriend to a seductive walrus, but even the thought of it makes her need to park her car very suddenly, lean forward over her steering wheel, and laugh. Slightly hysterically - again -, but laugh.
At home, there is Arthur, or there is not. He has made her no promises except that he will always return to Gloria as long as she will have him, and, words stumbling over his tongue as he turned a red brighter than sunburn, that he loves her. He cannot… There is something about the sea, he’d said. He sometimes just needs to go back to the sea, and there is no way to measure the depth of that longing, or any real way to truly, totally, quench it.
Gloria had been fond of swimming, of going out on her family’s boats and long, quiet walks on the beach by herself, long before she had met Arthur. Sitting on the sand and reading until the sun went down, with nothing but the wind and the gulls and the surf in her ears. She understood sea-longing before Arthur, and understands sea-longing a different way now she has him and he leaves and returns to her like an unpredictable tide.
There is not an Arthur-sized hole in Gloria’s house or life when the selkie is not there, but her heart misses him while he is gone. You cannot skype or text a seal. You certainly cannot have phonesex with one. But when Arthur is there -
Oh, he makes her happy. Simply happy, without a complication in her heart despite all the complications loving a selkie brings for her head. Even if he ruins her saucepans (he really cannot cook), tidies things away in places it takes her three days to find, and has a permanently passive-aggressive set of chronic misunderstandings with her brother. They can talk about things, Arthur and her, work things out between them. They will talk about things, because Arthur always come home to her for a reason.
“...Hey,” Arthur says, breaking off their kiss to nudge his nose against hers and draw Gloria out of her thoughts, his green gaze very close and inquiring. He has bumped kisses to her face like this in his seal form too - but the human form, at least, doesn’t suffer so much from fish breath. Imperfect and beautiful. “Where are you?”
Gloria nudges him back, letting her eyes slide shut at the simple pleasure of Arthur’s cheek against her own, nuzzling. The ocean cannot have this from her. “Não te preocupes, querido. Always with you.”

Divine the Future
Divine the Future
Divine the Future
It's human nature to be curious about "what happens next," what the future holds in store, whether in movies or books or in life. Methods of divination have been developed because of this curiosity, some even centuries old. There are many tools and ways of divinizing the future. Forms popularized by gypsies (as related in tales) are gazing of crystal (ball), reading of tarot cards, palm, tea leaves, bones, etc. Individuals with the gift of divination are often referred to as tellers of fate. This is actually a mislabel, because it is not really fortune that the diviner sees but possibilities of living, love, finances, etc. a person's future. All of these are based on decisions that a person makes now. Diviners are called manghuhula in the Filipino language, which literally translates into "guessers." By fact, it implies the tellers of fortune are expected to speculate. Surprisingly, their conclusions sometimes hit the mark enough to render divination a flourishing company.
The one that seems to be most reliable, given its many manifestations, is astrology. Chinese astrology (one of the oldest divination techniques developed centuries ago) and western astrology (founded by Babylonian astronomers) are the most common forms of astrology.
On an annual basis, Chinese astrological signs change based on the phases of the moon. Therefore, their year starts with the year's first full moon. Twelve animals are based on the Chinese zodiac. Your dog is based on your birth year. The twelve signs of animals are the following: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and boar.
The zodiac with which people are more acquainted is the one that varies from month to month. You may fall under Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, or Capricorn, depending on your birth date.
Nuts for divination nowadays seem to be everywhere (whether diviners or those who want to see their life written! From the café at the corner, to bookstores, to newspaper's humorous page, radio, tv, blogs, and even, yes, call centers. For many years now, metaphysical hotlines have been all the rage. Dionne Warwick and her psychic circle of friends are a notable character to get on the band wagon.
Until making their estimates, diviners who use astronomy employ a lot of math and analysis. The result depends on the position of the stars and planet alignments plus the date and time of your birth to make them feel they can come up with a prediction that is more or less accurate.
The 21st century diviners are more than tellers of fate. We often serve with their customers as therapists or advisors. We provide more than advice; we also provide warmth, and a very affordable price for an attentive ear. Your favorite diviner becomes part of your life and sometimes becomes a good friend from being a simple diviner.

Spring is here and so it begins!
Paint all day and draft all night.
IMAGE IDS: An a2 sheet of tracing paper on a green cutting mat. Drawn onto it are two a3 signs, one upside-down, both in plain mechanical pencil without shading. One says in block non-serif capitals "SAUNA OPEN LATE" with a curved arrow. The other says "FORTUNES" in curvy bubble letters and then "TAROT/PALMS READ/TEA LEAVES/BONES" On a stylised ribbon which curls back and forth below it.
SECOND IMAGE: Two a3 dibond (aluminium sheet stabilised with recycled plastic) boards on a tarmac surface in the sunshine. Both boards are a mix of dark blue, mauve, hot pink and white streaks in a marbled pattern.

Pulling Down Strongholds
The dictionary defines divination as, "the practice of attempting to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means." God's Word goes a step further by showing that people who divine are controlled or possessed by supernatural spirits that enable them to receive information beyond the human realm. God's prophet receive their divine revelation by the Holy Spirit. On the other side of the spectrum are demonic spirits feeding information to fortune-tellers and sorcerers. One of the problems with many Christians is that they are unaware of where the dividing line is between the things of God and Satan's territory. When God's people stray into these areas that appear harmless this is when it creates all kinds of havoc in their spiritual lives. That's why we need to stay clear of these things involved with divination so we can please God our Father. The spirit of divination often uses mechanical props, like sand bones, entrails of a sacrifice, tea leaves, tarot cards, palm reading, horoscopes, lumps on the head, Ouijah Boards, Planchete, Crystal Ball, occult computer games, charms and amulets, tailman, drugs, etc. It also uses magic, levitation, water witching, automatic writing, occult literature, etc. God Hates divination because it leads people to seek satanic intelligence for guidance instead of God and his word. We cannot mix the guidance of the Holy Spirit with that of Satan without getting in trouble. Millions of people today May 6 are doing just that when they consult their horoscopes instead of God's Word for their daily direction.#SpiritualWarfareForce
