have you ever been into physical art? (idk if that's the term but like. art on paper. or canvas. like non digital art) i ask bc your style kind of looks like watered down inks or watercolours.
it's usually called "traditional" art (vs digital) and well i dont draw traditionally that often and when i do it's just little doodles with ballpoint pens so nothing big ( here are some examples most of them I've drawn in class bsjdj)

good, quality paint is expensive and too much of a hassle to manuver not to mention all the other 17482 side tools and equipment that u gotta set up and use and there are some technical aspects that i just can't get behind i just wanna paint i dont want to get lost in the lack of glazing and what have you so i dont find painting traditionally that enjoyable it's a whole process

The Eternal Ones - Namina Forna
Tumblr media
Mere weeks after confronting the Gilded Ones—the false beings she once believed to be her family—Deka is on the hunt. In order to kill the gods, whose ravenous competition for power is bleeding Otera dry, she must uncover the source of her divinity. But with her mortal body on the verge of ruin, Deka is running out of time—to save herself and an empire that’s tearing itself apart at its seams.
When Deka’s search leads her and her friends to the edge of the world as they know it, they discover an astonishing new realm, one which holds the key to Deka’s past. Yet it also illuminates a devastating decision she must soon make…
Choose to be reborn as a god, losing everyone she loves in the process. Or bring about the end of the world.

Okay, so having read both of Namina Forna's Otera books thus far.
CAN WE PLEASE, discuss how the first and second books compliment each other so well and guide us through the typical feminism process.
Misogny > Femininine Power > Misandry > Gender Awareness > Equality for All.
Like you gotta do that awful hard swing into Misandry to realise how bad it gets before you come to a balance.
Also the magic system in this and the religious components of this just make is INCREDIBLE.
The found family and feminine rage and fallible gods just MWAH.
Loved them both, devoured it in days, just wish I paid better attention to death shriek descriptions early on
Also the first person POV added a whole new level of wow!!

It seems Notre Dame and Les Mis fall on two different spectrums of what they leave the reader with
Notre Dame: the crushing weight of despair at realizing our feeble humans life are just a footnote in the majesty of history
Les mis: the hope that still burns in the midst of that despair, that even a feeble human life can do its part to change history for the better
Should reread the man who laughs to see how it falls in the spectrum. I can't remember if it was written before Les mis or after. In any case, the staggering mood difference between the two works I assume is due to being written in very different times in Hugo's life.
I would like to read his poems as well one day, as well as an indepth biography. I don't wanna sound snobbish or eurocentric but I do think he's one of the most important writers of his century.

going into my other job for the first time in weeks after trying (and failing) to work remotely. it's been hard doing office work for my dad, especially since he's not direct with his feedback. today's staff meeting is going to be a bitch so send good vibes.

Sixteen-year-old Deka lives in fear and anticipation of the blood ceremony that will determine whether she will become a member of her village. Already different from everyone else because of her unnatural intuition, Deka prays for red blood so she can finally feel like she belongs. But on the day of the ceremony, her blood runs gold, the color of impurity--and Deka knows she will face a consequence worse than death. Then a mysterious woman comes to her with a choice: stay in the village and submit to her fate, or leave to fight for the emperor in an army of girls just like her. They are called alaki--near-immortals with rare gifts. And they are the only ones who can stop the empire's greatest threat. Knowing the dangers that lie ahead yet yearning for acceptance, Deka decides to leave the only life she's ever known. But as she journeys to the capital to train for the biggest battle of her life, she will discover that the great walled city holds many surprises. Nothing and no one are quite what they seem to be--not even Deka herself.
