Dungeon master dragons (dmd):
You all agree on what the villain's evil plan is before the campaign starts but nothing else and just rotate who runs the game each week. Each week the dm of the week adds something to the boss to make them stronger. You have 12 weeks to make it the bbeg or the campaign is over and you lose.

Lowkey I've been thinking about how since I always DM I never get to make a character that I interact with the way one of my players would, I don't get to experience the story from their perspective.
But I kinda realised that I am making playable characters, I build stat blocks, back stories, how they fit into the world, everything.
It kind of hit me that I create the whole story that they get to live, every interaction is my own played character, every puzzle is one I've usually hand crafted that I can guide them through, everything they experience as a player is something I have put my everything into.
I know it's the cliché joke of "the DM is the god of the DND session" but it really feels that way, I've built everything from scratch as I always play home brew and I feel that this level of accomplishment and joy that I get from seeing my players working together, befriending my own characters, and creating memories for themselves and their characters is something I would be missing out on if I was a player and not a DM.
Basically I'm really happy that I'm a forever DM as I never had this much fun as a player.

Fastest Growing Fandoms on AO3 This Week (06/19/2024)
Every week I pull data on how many fics are in each fandom and compare to the previous week, then calculate the percentage increase to determine fastest growing fandoms.  Since this naturally skews towards smaller fandoms, I have included the same data filtered to Over 1k, 5k, & 10k fics.
Overall:

As a Forever DM, I feel this. They sometimes make appearances as NPCs though.

Me and DM'ing are in the most toxic relationship you've ever seen because I'll be giddy with excitement while planning and then want to run off into the woods after not knowing what I should do next. I'll have an evil grin one moment as the enemy starts doing surprisingly well and then bang my head when the players cheese a major encounter.
So take this as a note to other DM's, or people thinking about DM'ing: Be prepared for the good and bad of it.
Yes, it's really funny when you can give everyone a good laugh with some NPC's dialogue or actions. Yes, kicking the party's ass when they picked a fight they really shouldn've is hilarious. And yes, watching them try to open an unlocked door for 15 minutes is a riot.
But it's not always the funny jokes you see on YouTube or other places, the things that get animated. It's also a lot of thinking, math, trying to explain things, and having to desperately make stuff up on the spot. It can be really shitty to DM, especially if you're like me and aren't great at planning or running fights. It can be annoying to try and tell your players they can't do something, only for them to argue back why it should work. It can be frustrating when you plan out something and your party does everything but that one thing, or when you realize a blatantly obvious thing you forgot to plan for is happening.
To all the new, veteran, experienced or inexperienced DM's out there: The time and effort you put into this game is amazing. The dedication to your craft is also amazing. It's not easy.
I wish every DM and Player an amazing day/night (except the players who actively make the DM's life hard)

I need to find a different way to cope with the imposter syndrome Dming gives me because I cannot keep going, ok ill write another campaign. I'm running curse of strahd, shadow of the Dragon Queen, I have a one-shot server revolving around a dnd academy setting which was created from period cramp delirium later abandoned and never started, AND NOW. God and now my mind is telling me to start writing a witcher dnd oneshot. I need to be put out of my misery I need to be a PC with my friends ill go mad.

What if instead of inspiration for good roleplaying, it was like Mario party bonus stars where a couple categories are chosen before game start and awarded at the end of the session?
I.e. best in character moment, best joke, most epic combat turn, most efficient combat turn, best creative solution, etc.

The last gift I made is for our forever DM (also my wife). She's been playing longer than any of us and she creates the most incredible homebrew adventures to excite, amaze and terrify us. She has a real gift for storytelling and we're so thankful to have a DM as kind and fun as her.
Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe and share love.

Nothing like laying in bed at night thinking to myself:
"You know since you're taking a break from playing DND you should pick up another hobby."
20 minutes later:
"So hypothetically if I was having DM burnout that doesn't mean I shouldn't try GM'ing a space opera...."

If you don't have a DnD party right now/are a forever DM, tell me about the PC you desperately want to play !
(I am in this situation and the pain is real)
My PC (currently sitting on a pile of old PCs I still haven't played) is Ephe Rahl, aasimar warlock. Their warlock patron is their (dead) grandmother who's very in touch with their celestial ancestry. Ephe has them strong biblically inspired angel vibes with seven eyes radiating from a central point on their face and subsequently doesn't show a lot of emotion (or at least doesn't emote in a neurotypical way)
