We all (well, most of us, probably) have heard of commandment number four, which says that we should remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. But how is one to do that? Probably taking a nap? Rest from labour? Sleep throughout the day? There will be many saying that it is meant for our rest, but how is one to rest? We see Jesus always working on Sabbaths (Saturdays), on which we would perceive that it is not lawful to do. Does that make Jesus a transgressor? Then that would not go well with the fact that Jesus lived a sinless life, hence dying and bleeding for nothing. But what does this mean? He obviously told us, that God made the Sabbath for man, not man for the Sabbath. We are not subdued to the Sabbath. The Sabbath is not our God, but rather the gift of God. The Israelites were enslaved for centuries in Egypt, growing accustomed to restless labour; but God brought in the commandment of rest, in order to save them from their past. And Jesus Himself, the Son of Man, is Lord of the Sabbath, and according to the Scriptures, He is our Sabbath, our relief of the Old Covenant, in which the people suffered the burden of the Law, which they could not bear. If you had a friend in deep suffering, even on the Sabbath, wouldn't you go and help him out?

i attended a memorial service for a distant relative a few months ago, held in the local megachruch, and ive been thinking about it regularly since then. while i knew that i found the place and the very idea of the church fascinating,* the main emotion ive felt on reflection has been disappointment, and i didnt know why. but i figured it out;
the building is massive, the services must be huge and grandiose, and yet the pastor spoke of God in the most boring, uninspired way, and the whole church is industrial mid century modern. it was all just so bland and dispassionate and uninspired (the empathy and love on display for the dead was very genuine, im referring to the Rest of it). the place clearly feeds from the faith of its patrons but seems uninterested in inspiring them in turn
no ounce of me is religious, but i know for a fact the very idea of God can be much more beautiful and imposing and comforting than that. theres way to much blood and paint in its history for that not to be true. you have a huge congregation and all this money and youre selling one of the most captivating stories in human history and this is its presentation? this is sufficient? not only to the pastor and the church staff but to the people attending worship? i knew itd be strange and modern and absurd in there but i guess i expected at minimum a slightly-charismatic pastor and accompanying staff. or at least one with a confident and well presented knowledge of the bible
i felt disappointed cause it was disappointing

So I might be joining that Catholic Church…
Been doing a lot of research on the different types of Christian faiths and Catholicism just makes the most sense.

I just saw someone say that Mormonism and Scientology were the only two major US-originated religions. Which, like, how wrong can you be? Do you know how many Protestant movements originated in the States? Is the Great Awakening nothing to you?

I really like the Catholic anime mascot, Luce. I hope my Catholic friends don't hate me for copying their homework lol.
I'm designing a 7th Day Adventist one named Ellen. Yeah, I couldn't think of a better name, ok? Lol, I based her off Ellen G White a little too much, but she's meant to be a black girl with green hair, and I'm not sure about an eye color yet. Maybe they should be green too...?

Every step of the way, when you fall, and you have your shortcomings, He’s right there. When you have your victories, He’s right there. Give yourself grace, give yourself time to grow and appreciate it, because He’s growing with you. Every individual out here is experiencing a human life, a human experience and God is experiencing it with you. So when you go through things, He’s going with it. He’s right there with you. He’s talking to you. All you gotta do is talk back. I’ve walked on the beach every day, and I’m talking to God, I’m just talking. Like He the homie, I swear to God, I put that on my grandmama grave, I talk to Him. Next to me, like the homie, just like the people that you grow with. I don’t care if you gotta curse, you gotta cuss, you talk to Him as if you known Him since you was born, the way He knows you. It’s the truth. It’s the truth. - Kendrick Lamar

if you're still interested in seventh day adventists, knowing better on youtube just put out a nearly three hour video on their history. i'm about two hours in and have found it really interesting.
i will check that out, thank you for the recommendation!! i'm definitely still interested, but because they're a smaller church it's definitely been a little bit harder to find ex-SDA stuff just compared to some other groups.

i said to someone that i like being friends with non-jews because it reminds me that not everything is about the jews and they were like "yeah but everyone is obsessed with jews" and like yes but no one is obsessed with jews as jews are

ok i like that post and i wasnt going to put it into the tags, but Catholicism is Christianity. Separating Christianity that way bugs me personally bc the sentiment echoes anti-Catholic biases of the past. A more accurate term would be Protestant and Catholic.

Long video (about three hours), but this is an interesting outsider's look at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, aka the church denomination I grew up in.
I still frequent Adventist circles due to most of my family and friends coming from the same community, though my friends and I have a... complicated relationship with the church (degrees of complication vary from person to person). I still have memories of being told that someday the government will break into our home and kill my parents while I have to run to the mountains and hide, waiting for the world to end. A lot of my parents' friends still bemoan the need to get out of LA and move to the desert because the government is going to start hunting Christians for sport at some point. There was a general sense in my parents' church during 2020 of "We should wear masks and socially distance, but also this is the United Nation's latest step in taking over the world." (The church owns numerous hospitals and medical facilities here in California, by the way.)
Funnily enough, what happened in Waco, TX was never brought up in my time going through the Adventist school system (I got out in college; if I had stayed, I theoretically could have spent my whole life from school to work in the church in some capacity).
Fun fact, if you ever keep track of my OCs and they mention being Christian, it's most likely this type of Christian. How much that affects them depends on how much I want to address things in my writing.
