THREE YEARS SINCE NOV 5TH, 2020 as summed up by Supernatural (sequel to this and this)
Tumblr media
image ID & context below:
[image ID: screenshots of Supernatural paired with screenshots of various tweets, news headlines and Tumblr posts.
A screenshot of Ed and Harry in SPN 3x13 Ghostfacers saying "You gotta be gay for that poor dead intern" with a screenshot of Misha Collins at the SPNNJ 2023 convention saying "I got a call from Warner Bros and they were like hey uh...is there any world you just let it go?" This is in reference to an incident in 2022 where Misha accidentally made headlines after a comment that seemed to be referring to his sexuality. His comments at this year's panel imply that the studio in fact did not want him to retract the comment and make the apology that he posted, but to instead just roll with it.
A screenshot of Bobby saying "Time travel?" and Dean saying "Yeah" in SPN 6x18 with a headline that says "Jensen Ackles' Explains The Winchester's Multiverse Twist & Supernatural Connection." This is about the series finale of Jensen's Supernatural spinoff "The Winchesters", in which it is revealed Dean and the Impala somehow traveled the multiverse to the alternate timeline the show takes place in.
A screenshot of Dean in SPN 15x08 saying "He's back, and he's out of control" with a screenshot of Misha Collin's first Tumblr post in seven years, a video with him and his brother being a public nuisance on public transportation. Also included are screenshots of various Tumblr users reacting with tags from various tumblr users. becauseofthebowties: "mishacollinsofficial tumblr account back from the dead???" myboobsarentsentientbeings: "this is the first thing he posts? after nearly 7 years???" casismybestfriend: "RED FUCKING ALERT MISHA IS BACK ON TUMBLR" cannabiscasgate: "who the fuck gave you back your password"
A screenshot of two news anchors in SPN 14x20, with one (named Jack) telling his co-host "I love you" and her replying "Jack?" with screenshots of the Destiel/Supernatural Confession meme trending multiple times this year with other current events topics like Russia, Titanic, etc. There is also a screenshot of a post by saintedcastiel that says "I cannot believe that since we started using the destiel meme as a breaking news alert that there hasn't been ONE destiel news anchor AU fic where they're co-anchors on the morning news. cas confessed on accident while they're on air and dean doesn't know how to respond so he just reads the next thing on the teleprompter."
A screenshot of Dean in SPN 5x14 as Cupid says "I-I was just following orders" with a screenshot of an anonymous Tumblr ask to user luxshine. The ask says "Hey! I was wondering if you have any updates on the LATAM dub situation and if you were/will able to contact the dub director". luxshine says "Hi! Well I could get the translator (you know, our dear rogue translator) and he told me that while he doesn't remember it completely (because he translates a lot of series) if Dean said "And I you" it's because the script he got said "And" I you" and the video he saw said "And I you" because he doesn't add stuff." This is in reference to a change in Spanish LATAM dub of Castiel's confession SPN 15x18, which added a line where Dean reciprocates, which was previously suspected to be a change added by the LATAM dubbing director or translator
A screenshot of a detective from SPN 8x08 saying, "[Chuckles] Whatever you say Scully" with a screenshot of the tumble blr blog ao3topshipsbracket's poll "AO3 Top Relationships Bracket - Round 2 Side 1" with Fox Mulder/Dana Scully (The X-Files) vs. Castiel/Dean Winchester (Supernatural.) In the final results from 51,514 votes, Mulder/Scully won by 53% and Castiel/Dean won by 47%. In early 2023, Tumblr added a polls feature which has led to numerous content, debates, and bracket polls similar to this.
A screenshot from SPN 11x15 where Dean says "No money, no glory" with a headline that says "Supernatural creator Eric Kripke gets 'zero' residuals from Netflix"
A screenshot of Dean rising from his grave in SPN 4x01 with a screenshot of a post from the official CW Supernatural Instagram with a clip from the pilot episode and the caption "And the story continues..." and a comment from a user that says "THE STORY CONTINUES?? WTF ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL US?? I HAVE ANXIETY YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME." For context, no one is sure if the post was supposed to reference new content from Supernatural or not but it has led to speculation.
A screenshot of SPN 8x01, with the onscreen lyric "Another year has passed me by."

Kinktober vs Flufftober 2024
Tumblr media
“Sam! Sam, stop! You’re going to kill him!” You desperately try to drag Sam off a fellow hunter. You don’t like the hunter, but the last thing you need is rumors spreading that Sam Winchester killed another hunter. “Sam, please.”
“He tried to touch what’s mine!” Sam is like an animal. Not only because of his soullessness but also because the hunter tried to hit on you during a get-together to celebrate the life of a deceased hunter. “No one touches what’s mine.”
You huff. It’s not like you’re together or shit. Sam is simply obsessed with fucking you. There’s no love or even feelings between the two of you.
“SAMMY!” Dean and Cas finally come to your aid. They grab Sam by his arms and drag him off the hunter. “What the fuck!”
“He tried to grope my girl’s ass.” Sam tries to apologize that he tried to beat the life out of the man. “No one touches what’s mine, Dean. Not even you.”
“Sam, get your shit together,” Dean snaps at his brother. Lately, he’s struggling to see Sam as his brother. Death brought Sam’s soul back, but they are still trying to figure out how to turn the new version back into his former self.
Sam squares his jaw. “Let go of me, or you’ll get a taste of my strength too.” Dean shakes his head. The thing possessing his brother is so unlike the Sam he raised. “Y/N, come.”
He holds out his hand for you. You could tell him to fuck off because he flirted with one of the huntresses, but it would only cause Sam to go rampant and find a reason to fight with someone else.
“Sam,” you huff when he drags you toward the back of the place, away from the crowd. “Where are we going?”
“I need to fuck you,” he states, ignoring that you wiggle in his tight grip. “You need to feel it in your bones that your holes are all mine.”
“Says the guy flirting with some bitch moments ago. You’re only angry because the guy was nice to me.” You bite back.
He stops in his tracks to look you up and down. His eyes darken, and you bite your tongue. One wrong word and he fucks you right there, in front of everyone.
“He touched you,” he snarls. “I told her to go down on her knees and suck me off if she wants my help on a hunt.” Sam shrugs. “She was an uptight bitch. Not wet and soft like you.”
“What the—?” You can’t believe Sam sometimes. He tells you he wanted some bitch to suck him off after he almost beat a man to death because the hunter dared to talk to you. “You’re unbelievable!”
“I know, kitten,” he purrs and presses you against the wall. He slips one hand between your bodies to hastily unbutton your pants. Your eyes round. Sam can’t be serious. “That’s why you’re always so needy.”
“I hate you so much,” you argue, but don’t fight his hand slipping inside your pants to pinch your clit. “Sam, not here. Let’s go somewhere else.” You know Sam is pumped up and needs to release some steam. “Please.”
“I love it when you beg me.” He presses his lips to yours, swallowing the tiny moans escaping your lips. Sam smirks when you buck your hips, silently begging him for more. He hums against your lips as he slips his index finger inside your cunt. “Already so wet for me.”
“S-am,” you whimper against his lips. “Pl-ease. Somewhere else.”
“I want them to know you’re mine,” he growls and removes his hand. You don’t argue. Fighting with Sam is a lost cause. Instead, you let him grab your hand and guide you out of the bar.
Sam leads you toward a car you don’t recognize. He twirls you around to bend you over the hood. Sam rips your still unbuttoned jeans down your legs, taking your panties with it.
“That’s how I like you.” He slaps your ass, roughly groping your globes. If you weren’t in a parking lot, he’d spank your ass raw tonight. “Always so ready to take my cock.”
Sam uses his large hand to spread your ass-cheeks. He smirks when you wiggle in his grip. You know he wants to prove your ass belongs to him. Literally. A warm liquid hits the crack of your ass, making you whimper. “Oh, kitten. This ass is mine.” He hums. “It opens up like a slutty hole to me.”
“Sam, not here,” you try one last time, but Sam throws the empty bottle of lube over his shoulder. He unzips his pants and slaps his cock against your ass.
“You’ll let me fuck this tight asshole and take it like a good slut. Maybe I’ll let you cum this time too.” Sam laughs when you hiss his name. He ignores you’re angry at him for flirting with the other woman. While you lie on the car, giving in to his demands once again, he runs his hard cock up and down the crack of your ass to get lube all over his massive erection. “You’re my whore.”
He presses the tip inside, making you hiss. It’s always a struggle to take Sam up your ass. At least he’s less impatient tonight and slowly inches his way inside. His hands grip your hips hard enough to hurt.
“Fuck, Sam…”
“Yeah, I’m going to fuck this hole open,” he growls like the possessive caveman he turns into when it comes to fucking you. “Watch me ruin her ass.”
You don’t have time to think about his words. Sam pushes you down onto the hood of the car and holds you there as he shoves the last inches inside. You’re panting because his massive cock feels good in your tightest hole.
“You’re an ass whore. I knew it.” Sam leans over your body to whisper in your ear. “Say it. Say, I’m Sam Winchester’s anal slut.”
“I’m—” you choke out a moan when Sam slowly starts pushing in and out of your ass. He barely moves his hips, only pressing his cock into you with short strokes, but you feel immense pleasure. You don’t know why, but no matter how Sam fucks you, it always feels good. “I’m Sam Winchester’s anal slut.” You breathe out, making Sam laugh.
“Yes, you are,” he pants in your neck while his hips mercilessly crash into your ass. “Always full of my cock, only mine.”
“Yes…”
“I bet you’ll cum like the whore you are with my big cock up your ass,” he taunts. “Right? You’ll squirt like a slut because you’re my anal whore.”
You should be ashamed. Sam is fucking your ass over the hood of someone else’s car. He calls you his whore, but you couldn’t care less. The bastard ruining your ass isn’t wrong. The pressure in your ass has you tethering on the edge of an orgasm.
He’s pounding you deep, hard, and fast. Sam groans in your ear, getting more excited. His desperate groans get you more excited. Your body is ready to give in to the pleasured pain. You whimper his name, telling him to cum inside of your ass.
And he just lets go, slamming one hand between your legs to swipe left, right, left, and right until you squirt all over his hand. “Perfect whore, isn't she?”
Sam pulls out, stepping away from the car to let whoever watched him fuck your ass watch his cum drip out of your gaping hole.
“Perfect hole.”
You try to catch your breath as you lie on the car. Total spend. Sam eagerly spreads your cheeks to look at his cum. He hums before thrusting one finger inside to scoop a large amount of his cum with his finger. “Come here and have a taste.”
“Dude, I’m good over here,” the man grunts. He’s holding his bruised ribs and glares at Sam. “I don’t know what kind of sick game you’re playing, but I’m out.”
“I said,” Sam growls in the man’s direction. “Come over here and have a taste. That’s what you wanted, right? To fuck my girl’s ass.”
“Sam?” You slowly get up from the car and pull your pants back up. You turn around to watch the man Sam punched earlier stand a few feet away. “What the fuck!”
“Buddy, if you ever get close to her ass again, you’re dead,” Sam smirks darkly. He wraps his hand around the man’s throat and forces his finger inside his mouth. “That’s the closest you’ll get to my girl’s ass. Now swallow like a good boy and get lost.”
Tumblr media
“You found a way?” You whisper to not wake Sam. After the fucked-up stunt, he pulled his brother, knocked him out. “How can I help you?”
“You need to distract him. Stay inside the room until Death arrives. It’s only a few hours; Y/N. Sammy will be back soon,” Dean gives you an apologetic look. “I know you liked this one, but...”
“Not after tonight!” You hold up your hand. “He risked my safety, Dean. If that guy was a little more..." You sniffle. “If he knocked Sam out, it would’ve ended badly for me, Dean. If we can bring the normal Sam back, I’d do anything to help you.
Tumblr media
Screams echo through Bobby's house. You press your hand to your ears and try to blend out that Sam is suffering inside Bobby’s panic room.
Death brought his soul back and finally found a way to get the old Sam back too.
If only it weren’t so painful...
“It’s going to be alright.” You look at Dean, nodding. You don’t know if he wants to convince you or himself. “It must…”
The screams abruptly end. Death slips out of the room. He ignores you and whispers something in Dean’s ear. “I know, we will be careful.”
Tumblr media
You gave the brothers time and space to reunite, promising to stick around for the next case. The procedure was a success. Sam is back to his old self.
What Dean didn’t tell you before Death got to work was that Sam wouldn’t remember your time together. The truth is, Sam doesn’t remember anything after he jumped into the pit.
Maybe it’s for the best. What you let his soulless version do to you was something the old Sam would never understand.
“Y/N, hey.” You look up from your book when Sam calls your name. He leans in the doorframe, eyes glued to your exposed legs. “I heard you helped Dean while I was gone.”
“Uh-yeah. Kinda,” you lie. It’s all you can do. Death warned you and the others not to tell Sam what happened over the last months. If you do, the consequences will be dire.
“Hmm…” He pushes off the doorframe, stepping inside your motel room. Sam slams the door shut and hums as you flinch at the sudden motion. His eyes are softer, and his behavior changed, but the smirk creeping on his face is not different from his soulless version’s smirk. “I see, you liked riding my dick.”
“What? I—what?” You splutter. He can’t know. It’s impossible. Death said Sam won’t remember a thing.
“I can’t remember much, but the videos on my phone helped me. I must say, you have been a good little slut for me.” He laughs darkly as you stare at him like a deer in headlights. “How about we refresh my memory and you let me fuck that pretty cunt and ass again?”

Ultimate Incest Tournament - Final
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut:
Sam/Dean:
I'm sorry but they have it all. children of metaphorical incest just continuing the cycle in any way they can. they are brothers and mother + son and wives and each other's scorned lovers and life partners they've had multiple infidelity arcs they are sexually psychopathic together they have forsook life and morality and the earth itself for each other and just love each other so much . They are literally in a heaven of their own making together for eternity, incestuously. Come on!!! Blueprint!!!!! It's not gay if he's your brother!!!!!
dean did stuff to sam's dead body in ahbl. i just know it
Messed-up, isolated sibs with all the daddy and abandonment issues. Their lives are so claustrophobic with the brothers no more than five feet apart in the car, a motel room, or standing next to civilians (face it, they are frigging magnets). Can't leave out that they are always touching each other to check for wounds which is a huge PLUS for any shipper.
Sam and Dean ARE literally the blowjob brothers. They walk into a situation and everyone goes well well well if it isn't the blowjob brothers....... And they say. Yep. That's us. And then they fix the situation with their epic love story
THE classic, iconic, show shopping, never done before etc. etc. incest ship. It changed fandom and it changed the world
Cersei/Jaime:
they're literally womb-to-tomb lovers. they feel that the rest of the world is beneath them and they're the only ones that matter. the fact that they're twins is fundamental to their attraction to each other
they’re blonde they’re evil they crossdress they’re fucked-up mirrors of one another they serve cunt they’re both bisexual probably and they’re TWINS who FUCK. who said that.
"if I were a woman, I'd be Cersei."
"I'll kill [...] the whole bloody lot of them until you and I are the only people left in this world."
"I am sick of being careful. The Targaryens wed brother to sister, why shouldn't we do the same? Marry me, Cersei. Stand up before the realm and say it's me you want."
"'Do you have a little wife, ser?'" No, I have a sister."

How Seasons 8-10 could have been GOOD
Season 8
Nix the angel-on-angel violence. Been there, done that, bought the trenchcoat
None of the heavenly trials BS
Henry shows up in episode 2 or 3 with Abaddon in tow.
The brothers work with Henry trying to stop Abaddon and find Kevin, interspersed with monster-of-the-week episodes.
Dean is too preoccupied with Abaddon and Henry to bitch at Sam for logically believing Dean was at peace in Heaven
Abaddon vs Crowley
Demon politics
Winchesters + Kevin and Crowley reluctantly working together and trying to outwit each other
(Sam and Dean having a home and grandfather/father figure!)
(Henry adjusting to 21st century culture and technology!)
(Kevin teaching him how to use computers)
(Linda Tran. That is all.)
(Audience actually getting attached to Henry because he's not KILLED OFF IN HIS FIRST EPISODE)
Abaddon kills Henry in the season finale
Season 9
Monster of the week opening
Supernatural Intro
Henry's funeral
(See what I did there)
The boys are back, and this time, they're out for blood
Crowley introduces the boys to Cain mid-season
Dean takes the Mark to avenge their grandfather over Sam's objection
The Mark's effect on Dean progressively getting worse
Dean and Abaddon both die in the climactic season finale battle. Dean gives Sam the same speech
Same end scene with Crowley and Deanmon
Season 10
The Suite Life of Deanmon and Crowley
(Deanmon is gathering supporters for a coup)
(Your king had to rely on a Winchester to take out his opposition)
Charlie stealing the Book of the Damned from the Styne family
Rowena and Crowley
Charlie and Kevin: nerd bros
Deanmon escapes from the devil's trap
He slices his own arm and offers to let Sam drink his blood.
He apologizes for how he treated Sam. How he reacted to his abilities, to the demon blood. He was the monster, not Sam
It's everything Sam ever wanted to hear
(and it's devastating because it's not really Dean saying it)
"No," Sam says. "This isn't you talking."
Aren't you tired of losing people, Sam? Deanmon asks.
Every time we end one threat, something bigger and badder follows
They can change that if they rule Hell
Only souls that actually deserve to be in Hell will be tormented
"Take it," he urges, holding out his arm
Castiel to the rescue
Dean is asleep in his room after being cured
Sam and Castiel are in the kitchen
"Are you alright, Sam?" Cas asks
"Yes." He shakes his head. "No. I..." He turns puppy dog eyes on the angel. "I wasn't going to take it."
"I know." Cas says. He reassures Sam he trusts him, that he's proud of him
Sam embraces him
"You're supposed to hug back, Cas."
"Oh." And he does.
Dean is cured, but the Mark is still there
Styne evilness
Charlie dies
Dean's killing spree
The Mark is removed
Out of the frying pan and into the fire

i know that ruby and cas are often compared in their "love interest" function but to me there's just so much more than that. they're basically opposite characters (not just in the literal sense of hell vs heaven): ruby seems to be rebelling against hell while she's secretly acting in its favor; cas starts off as a soldier following heaven's orders and ends up rebelling and working against it. they both die for their own personal cause, although ruby was not granted the possibility of resurrection. and aside from the problematic fact that death is more permanent for women than men in spn, i wonder if it's also because ruby totally failed at her "friend/support" function (because she was sort of faking it or, if she wasn't, she was manipulating sam) while cas manages to create a real connection with the human in his charge and it starts changing him. don't get me wrong, i actually love that her "reveal" was an evil one, and i generally don't like when the show offers us weak redemption arcs consisting in monsters falling in love with one of the winchesters (ugh). i'm also not a fan of redemption arcs in general but anyway. but i do wonder if the cas/ruby parallel is way more interesting in light of their "friend/support" function. i might be wrong but these two are the first non-family characters interacting with the brothers for extended periods of time. and having someone outside of your family with whom you spend time, who supports you, and that you generally like is important. not great news here but what i'm saying is that for sam and dean to have someone else was a big step. so while i like ruby as a character, i'm a bit saddened by the fact that they didn't give sam someone to establish this type of bond with. that he was being manipulated again. and this state of affairs stays exactly the same for many seasons. sam has 0 friends/support figures outside of dean, which is just plain tragic. with ruby out of the way forever, cas' "opposite/dark mirror" function is given to crowley (it's not a case that, again, the two died on the same episode, just like with ruby and just like her crowley, too, was not granted permission for resurrection). which, okay, for all practical purposes i like crowley (although i suspect i like mark sheppard more, tbh), but i mean, bad bad bad women who die die die must stay dead dead dead so ruby had to stay as such, but what about meg? we were so close to having her as cas' mirror :"(. i'm a fan of homoeroticism as much as the next person but i do find that in spn it sometimes dims the light on other characters, especially female presenting demons (don't even wanna talk about abbadon grrr). cas cannibalized anna and then crowley cannibalized all other demonesses, it's not fair okay? i loved them! :( *me: shouting at chuck: now you bring her back! ruby, meg, even lilith!* *puches the wall* **chuck actually brings them back in s15** *me: not like that, chuckdammit! clenches her fists at heaven*.

Sam-coded: Analyzing the parallels between Destiel and Sam's arcs with his love interests.
PART 1: JESSICA MOORE
FOREWORD & DISCLAIMER
With a fan community as enormous as Supernatural's, it is fair to assume that most, if not everything, stated here has already been pointed out or dissected multiple times before—especially considering the long span of time that the show has aired and the three years thereafter. The goal of this post is not to claim these ideas as my own but rather to compile and expand on them.
I also want to add that regarding Jessica, specifically, the canon facts about her are incredibly limited what with her only "real" appearance being at the Pilot episode (though she is referenced and alluded to in multiple episodes all throughout).
That said, she had a critical role in shaping Sam's goals, with emphasis on earlier seasons' Sam's development so it felt fitting to start this series off with her.
There are many instances that the fandom has pointed out cinematic parallels between Sam and Jessica & Dean and Castiel. In this post, I would be elaborating on all of the key points I have found, namely: 1. The scripted meeting, 2. Grieving a lover, and other random findings.
1. IN THE BEGINNING (WITH REGARDS TO GOD'S PLAN)
To start, both Sam/Jess and Dean/Cas were fated to meet to serve a higher narrative purpose.
Frankly, I think that is fucking beautiful, but not only that; it can be argued that, if we were to speculate that Sam met Jessica right after he ran away from Dean and John, then Jessica and Castiel did the same thing. They pulled their respective Winchester brother out of hell/a dark place. (That may just be me talking out of my ass, but it's such a poetic concept, isn't it?)
Most importantly though, both parties were doomed by the narrative, but in polar opposite ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 5x20)
Sam was destined to love and then lose Jessica for two reasons: to start the story, and to make Sam go down the "dark" path i.e. adjacent to Lucifer, demon blood, evil. Their story was scripted from the get-go, even before Supernatural decided to go metatextual with God.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 15x17)
On the other hand, Dean and Castiel were never meant to be anything more. God himself says that Castiel was supposed to continue obeying heaven, do what he was told, and it is one of (if not the one) that completely separated the Supernatural storyline from any of Chuck's other drafts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs from 15x18 and 15x19)
Furthermore, Castiel's love for Dean and Dean's loss of him marks the end of the story and makes Dean defy the role that God made for him. Admittedly, it's a flawed parallel, as Dean has already moved on from being Michael's Sword and the Righteous Man. To that, I say it only further proves the point; their unscripted "profound bond" directly opposed God's word. It was what should have broken the cycle.
And still, both ended in tragedy. It's just that one was written to end that way and the other wrote itself.
2. THE WINCHESTER BROTHERS ON GRIEF
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs are from 1x01 and 12x23)
This segment can't start any other way than with these iconic shots of the Winchesters holding their brother back from running towards the love of their life (as the lover, in question, dies/walks to their death). These shots are the very reason I started this whole analysis, and they speak for themselves.
Even their clothes are inverted here, because Sam and Dean are experiencing the exact same thing. The grief, pain, and helplessness that comes with losing a partner.
(While compiling these, I stumbled upon the eerie realization that the shots attached above and the ones below have swapped color palettes in a way? Granted, that may just be some editing thing. Technology and video quality aside though, you can't deny that the vibrance of the fire vs. the bleakness of Apocalypse World juxtapose aesthetically well with the shots below. Just another one of those, "is it intentional or did Supernatural just run out of options from the sheer breadth of it?")
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
This parallel in particular is what makes me believe that Supernatural either has amazing writing or just a terrible retention for continuity and reflection. Because, again, Sam and Dean are going through the same damn thing here: guilt. Specifically, the guilt of their lover's death—how both had reasons to believe they could've prevented it.
Also, these are cinematically shot the same way: Jessica and Castiel by the road, a deadpan stare at the Impala as the brothers drive by, then disappearing from sight at a second glance. How else are we to take this other than Dean grieving a lover the same way Sam grieved for his girlfriend? Did they just forget this scene from 1x05 when they filmed 8x07? (Most likely, yeah, but that doesn't disprove its contribution to the narrative.)
The premise is also similar, damningly so, the only notable difference being the formatting, with season 1's monster-of-the-week almost-standalones and season 8's continuous, over-arcing conflict with hell and the tablets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
At the very core, though, is Sam and Dean with their, "I could have—" statements. Sam had visions about Jessica dying, he could have warned her. Dean had Castiel right there at the portal to exit Purgatory, he could have pulled him out. It is that guilt they must carry around and that burden they must bear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
They even give one another the same damn pep talk. Dean saw that Jessica's death was slowly killing Sam, the same way Sam saw that Dean's return from Purgatory without Castiel was tearing Dean apart.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x05 and 8x07)
Lastly, here are the verbal acknowledgements of their grief. Because hey, who am I to try to explain subtext and nonverbatim connections.
2.1. TO BE JOHN WINCHESTER'S SON
In this segment, I would like to point out two of the instances that Sam and Dean accepted being compared to John Winchester, both in regards to losing Jessica and Castiel respectively.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 1x20)
Again, this is what the story was all about. Sam and John could or at least find solidarity in this, as was intended for the plot. (They even mirror God and Lucifer here, which is an entirely different can of worms I am not opening today.)
Keep in mind, Sam's always hated how John raised them, but it is evident that he found some comfort with John given their undeniably specific situations.
Tumblr media
(Screenshots taken from 13x04 I talked a little more about this arc here)
Sam openly calls Dean out on his John-esque behavior; an irony in itself given that the brothers have long since established that Sam was the one who resembled John the most whereas Dean was always, "yes, sir!" until the very end.
In this very same arc, there is a concerning increase Dean's alcohol consumption—and the use of alcohol as a coping mechanism in itself, rather than the leisurely treat it recurringly was in the show—which are telling signs for the headspace Dean was in.
They both lashed out in John Winchester ways they've internalized over the years growing up. Sam went down the path of self-destructive revenge-seeking, while Dean lashed out by rejecting being a father role to Jack, becoming the "drill sergeant," instead. These traits were what hurt them as children and were the crux of John's grief over Mary's murder. Round and round the cycle goes.
2.2. TO BE LUCIFER'S VICTIM

Again, another iconic parallel considering Lucifer's go-to trick to getting what he wants was to pose as the person his victims want the most. Another example of this exact same scenario is when Lucifer appears to rock star Vince Vicente as his dead girlfriend (and Vince ended up saying yes.)
In the earlier seasons, the most obvious choice for Sam was of course Jessica, as Lucifer was desperate to get ahold of Sam as a vessel. That was narratively sound, right? Even though 5 seasons (so about 5 years in canon) have passed since Jessica died, Sam hadn't forgotten her and she remained his greatest weakness.

Then on the flip side, during a time the story's well past the Script and God's most definitely free-styling, Lucifer appears again—and it is on God's orders. The devil chose Dean's weakness (Castiel) to blindside him, so Dean ends up running on emotions instead of questioning it.
This happened right after the episode Castiel confessed, and before the episode that Should Not Be Named... That also speaks for itself, doesn't it? Insane, absolute insanity to me.

This is where I might be reaching, but it's a small observation I noticed while bingeing the Pilot episode. Of course, at the time, production likely didn't even put much thought into Jessica's costume, but it's a funny thing to point out all the same. (I screamed a little about Cas' healer motifs here in comparison to Cesar/Jesse if you're interested.)

They both have the same Look when their boyfriend is talking down on himself, I can't even make this shit up.
+ I'm so frickin' tired I cannot look for screenshots anymore but Jessica's cookies plus Castiel's "you don't understand, I need pie," moment in the convenience store resonate with me.
+ Might edit and add more to this later, for now I sleepge.

Round 1, Match 28
Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural) vs John Wilkes and Edwin Booth (US history)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under break. Spoilers for Supernatural
Sam and Dean Winchester
Unlicensed and unregistered guns/vigilante justice
---------
they try to kill each other SO many times. well maybe not that often but more often that is emotionally healthy for both of them. dean tries to kill sam (4.14, 8.06, 10.03, 10.23) and sam tries to kill dean (4.14).
in s10 dean has this really shitty curse that basically makes him really violent and want to kill people. however he also wants to just try to deal with it instead of trying to remove the curse because they know removing the curse would cause something really bad to happen. they don't know WHAT the bad thing is but they do know it would be devastating. anyways sam goes behind dean's back and gathers a bunch of other people to try and remove this curse even though dean doesn't want him to AND even though he knows it would cause terrible consequences. eventually sam does get the curse removed and surprise! the bad thing that happens is THE FUCKING APOCALYPSE. basically.
in s9 dean lets an angel possess sam - something he knows sam would never consent to under normal circumstances - in order to save his life and then, when sam finds out and gets mad about it, dean basically refuses to apologize. and then he just never gets around to apologizing about it or even showing regret about doing it.
in s4 sam lies to dean continuously and works with a demon behind dean's back, and he's also doing the supernatural equivalent of drugs that give him powers. when dean finds out about this he locks sam up in a panic room to suffer through his (very painful) withdrawal completely alone. also sam is having hallucinations of dean calling him a monster. and when another character says that he thinks they should let sam out because sam is at risk of dying, dean says "at least he dies human." later sam gets out of the panic room, dean catches up to him, and they have this huge fight where sam just beats dean up.
honorable mention: in between s7-s8 dean dies and goes to purgatory. the concept of purgatory is previously mostly unexplored on supernatural so sam doesn't really know that dean is in purgatory in the first place but also he just straight up does not bother looking for dean at all and just goes back to living a normal suburban life for a couple months. and then when dean gets back he is SO upset about this and resents sam for it for basically the whole season. (this is also one of the reasons he tries to kill sam.)
also they continually try to save each other, at the expense of themselves + each other + everyone around them. they also treat cas (cas!! my best girl cas!!) really shittily on multiple occasions just because he's in the way of their goals.
ALSO. very important. sam & dean are, respectively, the vessels of lucifer & michael (like the archangels) and essentially they are destined to each get possessed by lucifer/michael and kill each other in the apocalypse (the 1st apocalypse, not the 2nd).
all this propaganda might be a little bit biased in favor of sam because i'm a samgirl but you get the point. they think they're so normal but they are SO fucked up. they hurt themselves AND each other in the pursuit of trying to do what they each think is best and they never ever learn from it. i don't even ship wincest i just think they are so interestingly fucked up AND that's not even going into all the stuff about their childhoods / pre-canon
John Wilkes and Edwin Booth
They were actors which is fine. Except. Edwin was better and John was bitter. And the John assassinated the President while delivering a line well associated with Edwin's Brutus. Edwin (already on the outs with John) disowned his brother after that.
Poll Runner's Note: Also their brother Junius Brutus Booth Jr was arrested because of John Wilkes Booth shooting the president. And the three of them had just done Julius Caesar in 1864 (John Wilkes was Mark Antony and Junius was Crassus), the year before the assassination.
One of Junius' other famous roles was as King John, also in this tournament!

It’s incredibly unfair to basically call you a shit stirrer just because you asked a Destiel related question during the Jensen solo vs the JenMish panel. What if you didn’t have the opportunity to ask during the JenMish panel? What if the question just occurred to you? We shouldn’t start policing when every question is asked.
I don’t know…I just..he gave a completely different answer than what he said a year ago with the “can we talk about that goodbye” at Jib, so I’m just very unsettled right now.
In all honesty, I asked the question in Jensen panel because I got the idea to ask the question after Misha talked about the possible Cas cameo on the Winchesters & how he (and Jensen!) didn't feel it was the right way to bring Cas back. This discussion happened in Misha M&G which was just hours before the Jensen panel. Misha also said then that Jensen had some pitch about Sam & Dean going on a rescue mission to find Cas & how he didn't like that one bc it meant he'd be appearing only shortly.
Anyways,I have thought about this specific argument people have against me and I have some shit to say here:
Why should it make any difference when a question is asked? If the actor is answering truthfully then the answer will be the same every time. It seems to me that people insist that I should have asked it in the Jenmish panel because they count on Misha doing the heavy lifting again & Jensen just nodding along. Just like he nodded along with Jared when Jared spewed bs about how Dean & Cas are just brothers and any other take cheapens this and turns it into porn.
But you pointed out correctly, he has said far more destiel friendly things before like "what about that goodbye" which VERY MUCH implies that there would be verbal discussion of what transpired before Cas was taken. Why not praise him for that? Why are people praising him for saying Cas' confession wasn't subtext and it was text? Firstly, it's not his character and secondly we all know it was text. Have known for 4 years? And suddenly people are acting like this is some sort of a new revelation. I'm genuinely baffled by people'd reaction to all this.

what do you think people would say about supernatural/the winchesters relationship if sam was female?
Realistically, I think Sam being a woman would have given the show itself free rein to be So Much Fucking Weirder towards her. I know this ask is mostly about the fandom’s reaction, but I need to set the basis that, given everything we know about how the show already is, Supernatural would have taken the Sam Experiencing Sexual Violence dial that is already at 9 and cranked that baby up to 20 and left it there for the whole run. And also, given everything else we know about the show, every time Dean ribs about Sam being gay in canon would either 1) stay that way but now have the extra layer of “Dean is really into watching girls fuck” on top of it to make it weird or 2) would just flat out be replaced with Dean hitting on Sam/insinuating something along the lines of ‘why would u ever want another guy? when I am here and all u need?’ because Dean is already a creep obsessed with his brother, can you imagine how it would’ve been written if he had a baby sister instead? Homophobia was the only thing holding the show back from flat out incest sometimes, I swear to god.
Okay, so. Now that I have established All Of That.
For one, we have to take into account how the fandom tended to react to female characters in general. Let’s see the forecast is uh. Bad. We are looking at huge divides between the “Sam is cool, we like her” and the “Sam is a bitch and the show should just be about Dean” crowds. (And the third crowd of “Sam should fuck her brother 😩”, absolutely wincest would still be a thing. It might be even more of a thing in this universe, but that’s all speculation.) Especially when s4 rolls around and Sam decides to be a little evil (and have a girlfriend? I’m assuming everything else in the show goes as is, and so would the Ruby plotline. Which means that’s going to awaken even more things in people than it already does. I would have stopped functioning if I saw girl!Sam/Ruby blood drinking and fucking on my screen as a preteen do you have any idea-) People are going to villainize the shit out of her for that, never let it go.
(Now, as the fandom ages, a lot of this is gonna simmer down like it did for real for characters like Bela. But in the moment? A goddamn war zone. Toxic waste dump.)
And we need to talk about the elephant in the room. Destiel. We already exist in a world where Sam will be completely sidelined and erased to get Dean and Castiel’s love story to seem like the most important plot of Supernatural. Now, I want you to imagine the absolute hell that would be to exist in a fandom where Destiel is the big slash ship and the other main character of the show is a woman. At best, continued sidelining. At worst, we are looking at “Sam is a bitch and the show should be about dean only” attitudes that carry forward into “Sam is a bitch who is in the way of destiel and should be killed off to get her out of the way.” Which you may note is usually a role given to female love interests that are despised for breaking up the main ship. This is because, for all intents and purposes, Sam is the main love interest in competition with Castiel for Dean. On a fandom level between ship wars of destiel vs wincest, but also textually, in the show, beyond shipping, Sam fills out that role in a platonic way as well and Castiel doesn’t. If Sam was a woman, this spells bad news for her. No woman gets in the way of gay ships and comes out unharmed.
Okay and now let’s talk about Lucifer because we need to talk about Lucifer, I’m a Lucifer blog, I’m a samifer girl, and I can tell you that none of these things would change for me if I was watching this version of the show lol. But! Remember what I said about the Sam Sexual Violence dial? Yeah. That is going to be. Extremely loud. Every time Sam and Lucifer are in the same scene. I guarantee you this is the universe where we get evil forced Samifer kisses at multiple points. This is absolutely the universe where, when Lucifer decides he wants a kid, he tries to get Sam pregnant first and only if he fails does he move onto someone else (and hint: he probably doesn’t fail.) Think about every Sam & Lucifer scene that ever happened and now reimagine it but the show can now be as weirdly sexually violent as it feels like because it’s “straight” now. The innuendos are out, and Lucifer is going to pin Sam against a wall at some point.
I’m very into this, but I feel like this would make the whole fandom situation around them a lot worse. People already get up in arms around samifer, or even liking Lucifer at all. If all that subtext became flat out text and people could gif “Times Lucifer sexually assaulted Sam on screen” into little gotcha compilations, it would be way more of a struggle to exist around here.
But like I’d still be into it so I’d definitely still be here, give me those comps, I’m gonna jerk off to them
ANYWAY. That’s what I think would change if Sam was a lady. Overall, not great, but I think there would also be a lot of people who find her relatable, empowering, etc, and really enjoy her as a woman. Probably the same people who like Sam now, honestly. If there’s any universe I got a chance to peak into, I’d want it to be this one. If only for samruby canon lesbian sex.

lucifer gender symbolism essay part 7: daughters vs sons
(also briefly sisters vs brothers)
masterpost
supernatural is a lot about children’s relationship with their father; the main two characters are sons trying to navigate being good sons or bad sons. there is not an equivalent thing going on with daughters; that isn't of interest to the show in the same way that sons' dynamics with their fathers are. the archangels are good and bad sons, because the winchesters are sons, and that's how that is.
but. lucifer isn't like the winchesters in a lot of ways; would looking at him as a daughter change anything about how we interpret him? i don't know, but i'm intrigued by the concept so. this is an exploratory section to see what, if anything, is going on with daughters in spn, and if lucifer fits that category at all.
there aren’t a ton of examples of what daughters Are compared to what sons Are in supernatural, really — or, “daughter” is a less coherent role than “mother” within the show’s mythos, anyway. is that going to stop me from writing a section about this? no
jo is one point of contrast to sam and dean: she’s not supposed to hunt, but runs away to do it anyway, whereas sam and dean are raised to hunt (and sam runs away to not have to do it anymore). rebellion itself isn’t an especially daughter-y thing to do, since sam also does that, but i would say that hunting is closer to what lucifer’s plans are than not-hunting, so in a way jo is a better lucifer parallel than sam is, in this. hunting is about declaring oneself worthy of judging who gets to live or die, taking actions to eradicate types of entities that are “harmful” according to you; it feels like a good and worthy pursuit according to hunters themselves but it’s ethically questionable at best and it forces hunters to live at the fringes of society because it isn’t a normed, respected practice. sounds a lot like lucifer deciding humanity is harmful to the world and he is justified in removing them from it, doesn’t it? (i also have a post that discusses this in the context of lucifer-dean parallels here as well).
the parallels to jo mostly stop there, i think. it isn’t a perfect comparison; lucifer isn’t supposed to avoid “hunting” out of anyone’s fear that lucifer will get hurt. it’s a little bit true that he’s not supposed to “hunt” while others are allowed to, since other angels are permitted to take human lives — huge numbers of human lives — into their own hands, but it’s different because lucifer’s intentions are different from michael’s/raphael’s/zachariah’s/castiel’s/etc, whereas jo’s are pretty much identical to sam and dean’s. still, the parallels are there, despite being limited. maybe not enough to say lucifer is doing Daughter Behaviors, but enough that jo feels like a reasonable parallel to consider.
on the other hand, mary is also a daughter, who was raised to hunt, who rebels against that expectation, and runs away. her story is very similar to sam’s — and both of these stories, i think, are more similar to gabriel’s than lucifer’s. mary and sam both have rebellion against the dictates of their family, similar to jo, so that IS a lucifer parallel, but it isn’t really a daughter thing.
other daughters get a little more “ehh” i think. lilith is maybe the most interesting one to look at: she’s very powerful, impressive, and terrifying — another woman in white, too, in her last appearance — but she’s also a source of shame and disdain for her “father,” since lucifer doesn’t like what she became. this is a pretty direct parallel to lucifer, who is also powerful, impressive, and terrifying, but is rejected by god, who made him the way that he is.
meg and ruby are both daughters, but imo their daughterness isn’t very different from the behavior of any loyal child following orders in the show. i don’t have anything to say about this, really.
so basically, there is little coherent theory about what a daughter is vs what a son is in supernatural, as far as i can tell. lucifer has similarities to sons and similarities to daughters, and some other sons have some similarities to some daughters.
the one thing daughters definitively are in comparison to a son in supernatural, though, is that daughters are not what sam and dean winchester are. not to be obnoxious but it’s “carry on my wayward son” — wayward daughters wasn’t even the spinoff; that was wayward sisters. sam and dean are the same in their son-ness, in whatever other ways they differ. michael is a son — A Good Son, in fact — and in that, michael is much, much more different from lucifer than dean is from sam. dean is the obedient son and sam the rebellious son, but sam returned to his family and cannot definitively be said NOT to be a good son — he maybe isn’t a good son in the way michael is, but still, he never isn’t john’s son.
don’t get me wrong on this, i know that lucifer is never referred to as a daughter, and i am not claiming that sam (or dean) would have been any less john’s kid (or any less good) had he been a daughter instead of a son. the only thing i’m saying is that michael and lucifer are divided where dean and sam are united, and referring to lucifer as a daughter would hammer home that difference between them even more. lucifer being a daughter would otherize her relative to michael the Good Son, relative to sam, and relative to the overwhelming son-ness that is michael, dean, and sam (and adam) collectively. daughter!lucifer would break the parallels, for better or for worse (here’s a post on this subject, also)
(i’m not doing a section on brothers vs sisters for this reason. i think othering lucifer in the context of fathers is more effective than othering lucifer in the context of siblings. i think it’s fine to have angels refer to lucifer as “sister” in fic; i have done that myself, but this is my thesis post on fem lucifer and if i’m going to get this into it: i think lucifer should be “brother” to michael. i don’t think it would be incorrect to have lucifer be “sister” to michael; certainly one of the things that is different between the michael-lucifer dynamic and the dean-sam dynamic is that michael and lucifer aren’t choosing each other the way dean and sam are, but to me that’s so much about god. by season 5, john is dead; dean and sam are making choices about each other because of each other — by season 5, god is gone, but michael and lucifer still act like he’s not, like he might come back, like they are still constantly being watched and evaluated by him, and so i think lucifer is othered relative to relevant characters specifically because of the son(/daughter) role, not the brother role.
(...that said, this only holds for lucifer being michael’s brother because of the winchester parallels. gabriel or raphael could have called lucifer their sister and it would have been cool and good, i think)

Pour me some love (1) - Flufftober 13
Tumblr media
Summary: He always ends up in your roadhouse.
Pairing: Biker!Dean Winchester x Plussized!Reader
Trope: Love at First Sight
Warnings: flirty Dean, shy/low self-esteem, fluff
Idea by: @elle14-blog1
Kinktober vs Flufftober 2024
Tumblr media
Life is slow out here. You’re used to it. Years of spending your time after school at your dad’s bar taught you two things. Men can be the worst, and alcohol is not for you.
After your dad retired, his partner Ellen Harvelle took over the business. She was kind enough to offer you to stay and work for her. In the back to take care of the finances, and in the front to help her with the thirsty crowd.
Most of your guests at the roadhouse are regulars. The usual drunk, the businessmen wanting to drown their sorrows in booze, and the lonely hearts seeking company. But sometimes you get lucky and a stranded traveler or someone catching your attention ends up in your bar.
Just like tonight. He’s back, with company: Dean Winchester, your dream man on bowed legs.
You sigh watching him step inside the bar. He straightens his tousled hair as the single ladies in the bar crane their necks. You rarely get the chance to look at men like the Winchesters and their friends.
Bikers. Rough around the edges, a little cocky, and so damn handsome.
You know little to nothing about them. What you know is that John Winchester, leader of the Purgatory biker club, is Dean and Sam’s father.
Sam, the younger brother, has a girl in tow. His girlfriend Ruby. She glares at the woman at the bar, marking her property by wrapping her arms around Sam’s neck to kiss him fiercely.
They make out for a moment before John clears his throat. He came here for drinks and a cheap bed, not to watch his son fuck Ruby with his tongue. “Sammy, get your shit together,” he grits out before walking toward the table her always occupies when he’s around.
He nods at Ellen, who already carries his favorite poison toward the table, along with enough glasses for his friends.
“Welcome back, John,” Ellen says. “No fights. No swear words. No smoking at my place, Winchester.”
John smirks. “I wouldn’t dare cause trouble at your place, Ellen.” She huffs and turns toward the bar to nod at you. You’ve got your hands full with the other guests, but the biker club tips well.
“Hello sweetheart,” Dean, the elder brother, claims the only free seat at the bar counter. “What can you recommend today?” He licks his sinfully plump lips, eyes glued to your chest. “What’s on the menu tonight?”
“We’re not a diner, Dean,” you tease, and slap his chest with the dishtowel in your hand. “We’ve got peanuts, beer, booze, and bad music blaring from the centuries-old music box.”
Dean grins now. He loves that you do not shy away from him any longer. In the beginning, when he first came to the bar, you barely got a word out when he tried to chat you up.
His constant flirting and charming personality changed your mind about bikers and men in general. You slowly warmed up to Dean, and now you fear he owns your heart.
Sadly, you’ve got no clue if he feels the same or if he’s just friendly to every woman. Dean is a natural flirt, and you fear; he only tries to make you feel better. Because most of the guys coming to the bar rather flirt with Jo or the other pretty and petite waitresses.
“Hey, if you stare at Y/N as if she’s on the menu, you’ll pay for her too,” Jo slams her hand onto the bar counter. She grins as Dean’s cheeks redden.
“I was asking about the special tonight,” Dean grumbles under his breath. Another missed chance to talk to you without someone ruining it.
“Babe,” Jo whispers in your ear, “don’t make it easy for him. Make him beg for it. You’re too good for a one-night stand.”
“He wouldn't... he didn’t,” you splutter, catching Dean’s attention. He watches you nervously tug at the Zeppelin shirt you found in a drift shop. You bought it because you remember he told you about his weakness for classic rock.
“I got an eye on you, Winchester,” Jo glares at Dean. “One wrong move, and you end up spitting blood, mister.”
“Jo!” You tut.
She snickers before walking off. Jo met lots of bikers in her life. None of them meant what they promised a girl. She learned the hard way what heartbreak means.
“So... uh, any food tonight?” Dean hopefully asks. Last time he came around, you offered the rest of your homemade lasagna to him. He inhaled the food.
“I got some pie left.” You barely get the words out before he grabs your hand, holding it in his. “What?”
“Pie? I love me some pie,” Dean exclaims before leaning over the bar counter. “I swear, if your pie is as sweet as you, I’m going to marry you.”
You harrumph and wiggle out of his grip. “What are you doing, Dean?” You sniffle. “Listen, I know you’re a natural flirt, but stop pretending you like me or shit. That’s not fair, you know. A man like you shouldn’t give a girl like me hope.”
You throw the dishtowel at him before storming out of the bar to get fresh air.
“WINCHESTER!” Jo growls. She jumps over the bar counter to get the baseball bat she hides there in case one of the guests gets a little too cocky.
“I didn’t do a thing!” Dean gets off his seat to run after you. “Sonofabitch!”
“I hope so!” Jo yells after him, earning a chuckle from the rest of the biker gang. They all know Dean has a big crush on you.
Tumblr media
“Sweetheart wait! Wait up!” Dean chases after you. He wheezes when you finally stop and wait for him to catch up with you. “I—phew.” He huffs. “I didn’t know running is so exhausting.”
“Dean, what do you want? Is this all a game to you?” You wipe your eyes. “Because it’s not funny to flirt with a girl you’re not interested in.”
“Y/N,” he grabs your upper arms, still panting. “Shit, give me a sec, baby. I—fuck. My sides hurt, and my lungs feel like I ran a marathon.”
You giggle as he tries to catch his breath. “I would never make fun of you,” he squeezes your arms before dropping his hands. Dean cups your face instead, looking you deep in the eyes. “Sweetheart, I fell in love with you the moment I stepped into the bar for the first time. I just didn’t know how to ask you on a date.”
“What? I—what?” You believe you misheard. “You can’t be serious.”
“I’m damn serious, sweetheart,” Dean says and jerks his head toward a black classic muscle car parked in front of the bar. “I came with my Baby, not my bike, tonight to ask you to go for a ride with me.”
Oh, he grins with a twinkle in his eyes.
“I’m not a girl for one night.” You pout and sniff.
“Sweetheart,” he leans closer to murmur your name. “Do you believe I’m the kind of guy going for a wild ride with the girl he loves only once?”
You shake your head.
“Good,” he nods. “Now, let me kiss my girl. And then I’ll take her for a romantic ride in my car.

Ultimate Incest Tournament - Round 3
It changed fandom and it changed the world
Sam/John:
Underrated Full House of Wincest variant. The younger son who defies his father in everything and runs away to escape the violent, isolated life he was raised in, only to be drawn back when his dad goes missing. It's all about the control/rebellion struggle and the love that persists despite it.
he's John's little boy <3 via John's journal we know John sees a lot of Mary in Sam. they fight a lot and no one can rile John up like Sam does. Sam is all the more precious bc John has to keep him safe from both other hunters and Sam's destiny
Their arguments and fights that look like they're so close to coming to physical blows. makes the hatefucking headcanons so hot. but also we can tell that they love each other so so much. and john choosing to lovingly stalk sam in secret at stanford to check up on him instead of actually talking to him <3
A father who thinks his son was born tainted? That there is something wrong with him?? A father who almost shot him because he beloved it was for the better??? A son who is compared so much to his mom???? Who is just rebellious and always butting heads with his father because he refuses to do what his father wants????? And so obviously his father has no choice but to fuck him, duh

Neither of these fall under Fluff/Angst really, but I would be tickled to see what you do for either one:
"Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun + Dean?
Or
"The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman + Sam?
this prompt was a test at trying to connect the greatest showman to supernatural which in an of itself is a great feat i would say. this was fun to write and to ponder over so i went with this idea i’ve been thinking of for some weeks now, almost like a sneak peak into this universe of angel blood reader vs demon blood sam in a way.
thank you for the request, i hope to see some more in the inbox soon. my requests are indeed open, right now i’m writing song+character requests from supernatural so yeah, drop em if you want.
Tumblr media
sam winchester. you can do like me.
leaving nebraska meant leaving behind the childhood self and living now. there, in that small town, laid your childhood bedroom, the memories of your aunt at the stove making velveeta, and the sound of her voice as she sang to an old stereo cassette of bob dylan and johnny cash. there was much to leave behind, some which you held onto tightly as you pressed the gas and escaped state borders.
but that version of self was naive. hadn’t yet learned the knowledge of what you do now, and lived under the roof of a lifetime hunter and hadn’t a single idea of even what that was.
she was cremated now. joshua took over the bar when you said you were leaving. sold the house too so you could live off the funds for a while.
sometimes you got an odd craving you couldn’t sastiate. one you couldn’t define or put a name to, but one that would tear you up inside and leave you thinking of only that.
now you understand it was the power of micheal within you.
and for the past few weeks you’d been pushing the pavement to cross state borders with two brother’s on your tail that you hoped you manage to shake off this time.
you learned about them before your permanent departure from nebraska. one of the regulars in the bar reminded you of the name winchester, one you knew was famous in the hunter’s world. your heart fell to the pit of your stomach at the mention; living as a hunter on your own felt like you were a newborn on shaky wobbly knees, you weren’t ready to start running at the first taste of freedom.
the regular hadn’t a clue as to why they were chasing you, and you didn’t hear much about them either, but you didn’t wanna find out.
so now you’re in a motel in indiana after 17 hours of driving across country; while exhaustion didn’t quite match the sensation you were feeling, you couldn’t bring yourself to sleep anyway. the idea of two men busting your door down kept your eyes wide and your hands shaky with anxiety.
the clock ticked on the wall too loud. you removed it’s batteries and laid back down. but then the silence ate at your bones a little too much and you turn on the radio to the alarm clock to your left real quiet so you could listen out for the sound of cars.
you think to your aunt. wonder if she’d ever been put in a situation like this. the hunter world was messy so you considered a yes. but she was strong and different - peaceful in her power like she knew how to wield it. you hadn’t the opportunity to ask her knowledge of the winchester before she died, but you imagine if she grew up into the life and owned a primarily hunter populated bar that she must have. maybe you’d ask joshua if you ever planned on returning. that is if the winchester’s didn’t kill you first.
and that was a question you’d ask yourself nearly every passing minute over the sound of your ipod on the radio. what exactly did they want? what did they know. how did they know. what did they plan to do with that knowledge.
you’d have to keep running.
you fall asleep to a fleetwood mac song on the radio.
and wake up to your name being called.
your eyes shoot open before your body makes any other sign of moving. wide eyed. with two bodies standing behind you as you curled on the mattress of your motel room. even blinking felt like it was too loud, and you wondered if they could hear the sound of your heart just hammering against your ribs. your breathing slows, it feels too loud to breathe as if you haven’t been caught already.
“we know you’re awake.”
you push an arm under you to sit up, back still turned to the boys. you ponder the possibility of them holding weapons to you, so you make no sudden movements.
you turn over slowly, sitting in the bed now instead of laying down. the room is cold from the door being opened only a second ago. you raise your eye line to the winchester’s.
both tall. the one with shorter hair has a gun in hand though not pointed to you. the taller one has a soft brow - he was good cop. they have cut eyes on you.
“we don’t want to hurt you.”
“why have you been following me.” the question you’ve wondering yourself for weeks now.
“i’m sam,” he thumbs to the one holding the gun. “this is dean.”
“you already know why we’ve been following you.” the shorter one says.
“what do you want with me then.” it’s like your spirit has wilted. they can see the heaviness under your eyes and the minimal acts of comfort you enact on yourself to soothe the anxiety.
“we know about micheal.” sam breaks the ice, and that familiar hot feeling washes over your skin every time you hear the mention of micheal’s name. almost like he was watching you, like he was in the room with you.
“it wasn’t my choice.”
“it wasn’t mine either.”
you hadn’t realized your eyes had fallen but you meet sam’s gaze again with a mended brow and a look of confusion. had this happened to him too?
“not with micheal but,,, a demon.”
your expression falters and you adjust your sitting on the bed. “you have demon blood in you?” it’s a whisper almost.
he nods, you see he doesn’t like talking about it. and dean has this tense jaw and fixed tough expression.
“we wanted to find you. we have no clue if micheal has done this to others and with the apocalypse coming,”
“dean is micheal’s vessel for the apocalypse.”
“way to keep it under wraps hot shot.” dean tucks his gun away in his jacket and sam asks a defensive ‘what?’
“if you guys were following me in hopes of some kind of connection between me and micheal and dean being his supposed vessel, i have nothing for you. i don’t know why this happened to me or why i was chosen. i do know that i don’t like it. angel’s have egos and we’re like their pawns.”
“it’s only them.” a third voice, now behind you as you face the boys in front of you. you whip your head around to find a dark haired man in a tan trench coat, rounding your vision to stand closer.
“you’re an angel.”
in your sights you see the heavenly glow only a person with angel blood could see. a fraction of his true form as it seeps from his vessel. he was heavenly - the energy soothing and enough almost to bring tears to your eyes as you watch him with wonder.
“this is castiel, he is an angel and he’s helping us. we want-” sam pauses, you look up at him and for a split second he can see that blue glow in your eyes. “we want to help you. we want to help each other. we need a way to win the apocalypse.”
you fold your legs under the cover of the duvet, teeth finding the inside of your cheek.
you were raised to fight - that much you were comfortable with in terms of skill. hunting was different. a life on the road seemed fine enough, you always wanted to see the states and the world outside of nebraska but, the idea of taking on the apocalypse with limited knowledge on what laid dormant inside you for so long, seemed far fetched and quite frankly impossible.
“guys,” your hand finds your brow. “i can fight. that much i know. what i don’t know is why i was chosen or what even i could do with whatever is inside me.”
“we have an angel.” dean speaks up.
you look from him to castiel who has little expression beside the fact that he appears tired as ever. the apocalypse probably has done more on him than you realize.
“come with us. leave this behind for now, you are more powerful than you realize.” when sam spoke it felt like something was coming through him to do so. like emotion was pouring from him and he so badly wanted you to believe him, to trust them. to fight in this war with the prospect of winning. he had hope in him, one you sometimes saw in yourself.
“we don’t ask people to join us.” dean speaks up next to him. his gaze is cut, face hardened. “we could use the help.” he nods as if the words were hard to say. he wasn’t the type to let people in. in many ways he was an open book an others he was shut and locked so tight. this much have been hard for them. this much you could understand and reason with.
you look between all three of them for a moment before clearing your throat. “alright then.”
“where do we begin.”

John Winchester's motto of "family business first" affected his sons' attitudes towards dangerous situations very differently.
Dean is more than willing to die for the people he's "supposed"* to protect, usually Sam. But he's also pretty inflexible about the perceived rules of the supernatural world, and once he's decided something deserves to die, he puts all his effort into killing it. He has a strict code that way. Sam, on the other hand, does his best to find loopholes to any supernatural-related rules he comes across. But the motivation to finding these loopholes is entirely dependent on his mood and goal. And his first instinct when it comes to saving the people that matter the most* is to employ every resource available - including the beings outside of this priority list.
* When I say "supposed to protect" and "people that matter the most", I'm talking about how John instilled an us-vs-them, we-have-only-each-other mentality into Sam and Dean. Dean is self-sacrificial because nobody else in the world can protect his loved ones as well as he can, and Sam uses others freely because when it comes down to having his back, the outsiders don't matter - his brother and father do.
This is NOT a shipping post. Do not bring that into my notes, thanks.

I’ve ended my post about Mary as a symbolic gift by saying that there wasn’t real space in the show for a Mary who was “not just a mom” but, truth be told, I think there wasn’t real space in the show for any character whose story wasn’t connected to Sam and Dean. As far as I’ve understood the show, the obsessive focus on Sam and Dean is both its main strength and its main weakness and I think that the finale showed it.
It’s not news that in SPN every side character who stops being useful to the plot dies. Or they die because their death is instrumental to the plot and/or the emotional arc of either Sam or Dean. Or both. This is true of every era and, I believe, it’s a rather foundational aspect of the show. This is the reason why, from a general narrative pov, I often compare the brothers to two cosmogonic forces because they are the ones creating their world which is THE world where everything and everyone depend on their story. There’s even an episode, “Weekend at Bobby’s”, where Sam and Dean sort of get called out because they only seem to care about themselves. Which isn’t true (well, more or less I'd argue, lol) but it is true that the show is exceedingly concerned with them and them alone. This extreme focus on the main character(s) is something that I haven’t found in any other show, to be quite frank with you.
Partial exceptions are Jody, Donna and the rest of the Wayward Sisters but that’s just because they wanted to use those characters for a spin-off. In reality we never know what happens to them after “Inherit the Earth”, what happens to Eileen, to AU!Bobby, to AU!Charlie, hell even to human Chuck. A good opportunity to show them one last time and tell us what happened to them would’ve been at Dean’s funeral. A funeral where nobody shows up. I know it was because of COVID restrictions but they still filmed and left that scene. So they wanted to tell us something with that, wanted us to see it. And we saw it, which I take as a way for the show to tell us that the story was really over and Dean’s death was final. I don’t want to go into the big “family is hell” vs “found family” debate but wherever you are on the two sides of the argument you kinda have to admit that it was very sad and quite cruel to show us that nobody attended Dean’s funeral.
The other exceptions are Crowley, Rowena and Castiel, three characters that have their own individual storylines that, to the surprise of no one, end when they get inextricably linked with that of the Winchesters. Crowley dies slowly and painfully of the Winchester Derangement Syndrome, whereas Rowena is revealed to be united with Sam in death. Her death. Castiel is the only character who escapes this narrative destiny right until 15x18 where he says that the reason he cared about the world was because of Dean. And then he also dies.
Perhaps the association between “worlds” and the “brothers” is at its most blatant in S13 where the Alternate Universe is a universe without Sam and Dean and, therefore, a boring universe, imo. And when I say “without Sam and Dean” I don’t mean in the sense that they were never born there but that they never even stepped foot there until, like, the last three episodes (and, by the way, they made them act like total dicks bossing around people in a war-zone.). This is not to say that, for example, Original Bobby (since I’ve mentioned him before) doesn’t have his own story, quite something else. This is to say that the vast majority of side characters in SPN have their own stories but their own stories only serve to “mirror and parallel” Sam and Dean’s. In other words, other characters’ stories are, apart from the above exceptions, always functional to the cosmogonic brothers. Case in point is that episode in S15 where Chuck eliminates all other worlds/drafts because what he cares about are “our” Sam and Dean. Sure, that was a jab at all the failed SPN spin-off but, again, this proves my point: people, much like Chuck, are interested in Sam and Dean and Sam and Dean alone (Big hello to those two Sam and Dean hopefully living a good life in Brazil, cheers! Or did Jack fix that as well? Who knows!).
The reason why Sam and Dean are absent in the Alternate Universe is not because they’re dead or were never supposed to be there but because Mary didn’t deal with Azazel. This interests me a lot because the cosmogonic aspect here is Mary’s choice: Mary is, de facto, a creator of worlds. Two to be precise but still, not bad. Now this would actually be an interesting spin-off, right? A series where Mary is one of the main characters and we get to focus on her? Oh wait, there is a spin-off about that. Or at least I think this is partly what “The Winchesters” is about because I haven’t watched it yet. It was, sadly, canceled and I don’t know why (these days they cancel shows according to the mood of the day apparently) but I’ll have to go with the current obscure ways of making profit in the media industry (as far as I know, people have no access to data to understand why certain decisions are made). This is, after all, the real world and in the real world god is profit and not a writer.
The centrality of Mary’s choice in S13 is not part of the original story that, on the contrary, was based on the notion that everything was predetermined and the struggle of our main characters was exactly this: will they or won’t they be able to exercise free will? However S13 reframes the original story because now what is deemed to be relevant is whether or not Mary is just a mother or… “not just a mom”. To use an image that’s become dear to me, the main weight put on one scale was still imagined motherhood: Mary as a character could only compare&contrast against that, against herself (as originally conceived by the narrative) and how she had imagined herself to be. She is therefore never fully free from being Sam and Dean’s mother because she’s never fully free from her own imagined motherhood. Which means she’s never fully free from her Special Heaven where she’s fake-happy with two fake-babies in a fake-perfect house and with who must be a fictional, imagined version of John. Which means that she’s not complete.
I mean, I'm surely not the only one who sees the illogicality here: Mary represents a myth about motherhood and safety and this myth takes the form of a nuclear family living in suburbia with the infamous white picket fence. Okay. She comes back to life to debunk this myth and we see that she's actually very different from how she was portrayed because she's adventurous and wild and taciturn but also leader-like, cold and secretly very sweet. Again, okay. But then she dies and we're told she's complete but we're also told (we don't see it, we're told) she's in a Special Heaven with John which, by the way, sounds very suspisciously close to Heaven's Prison. Fine, alright, okay! BUT THEN what is Mary's heaven (and, later on, everybody's heaven)? A myth about family and safety in the form of a nuclear family living in a sort of overexposed country-side. Like, what???
As I see it, what was needed to deconstruct Mary’s myth was for her to come to terms not only with the fact that her sacrifice was made in vain because there’s (apparently) no escape from the hunting world, but that she had deceived herself. For example, she might have discovered that she kinda doesn’t like leading the imagined life she used to dream about or perhaps her dream was always tainted in real life by what happened with Azazel so she never felt safe anyway, thus removing the one thing she ever wanted by getting out of the huntig world. I could go on and on but what I want to say is that it’s not enough, for me at least, to know that Mary likes to fuck and used to feed her children store-bought meals. This is cool but accessory. Do not show me the conflicted emotions of a character re: her past choices by giving me a WORLD where that character doesn’t make said choice (and therefore feels better about it). Let me see her as she realizes she was also going after a myth, let me see her as she realizes that the man she loved went basically half-mad with grief after her death, let me see her as she realizes how sorrowful her sons’ lives have been. Let me see her interact and generally be around the main characters/focus of the show.
As I’ve said, she couldn’t be free from her own myth because the narrative still needed her for Dean to be free from his own myth. To be honest I think it was a very cool idea and the two things could’ve been done together (I think it’s clear by now that I feel sorry for Mary as a character but that doesn’t mean that debunking the image of a parent isn’t a cool concept to write about). However, it totally was a retcon because S11 Amara, as much as I adore her, didn’t have the experience nor the emotional tools to understand such a deep human concept. She understood that humans need to experience/feel unconditional love and that this love can take the form of parental love from a time when humans are babies that need to be nurtured and cared for. So she saw a picture of Dean and Mary and, by virtue of her bond with Dean, she thought: oh now I get it! And she was right!!! But, like, human relationships are OF COURSE more intricate than this and there’s no way she could’ve understood all this in S11. If she had really understood it she would’ve never brought back a person just for another person to learn a lesson.
This ultimately also proves my point: Mary couldn’t be anything else than a mother in the show because the show itself is focused on Sam and Dean and everybody else depend on them to stay or not in their story. Mine is not necessarily a criticism, on the contrary, the show strikes a real chord with the mythical parent vs real one. But it didn’t let us see it because they decided that bringing back Mary just for her to be a mom would be awful. And they were correct! but, again, you can’t just bring back a central character like her and then spend the rest of THREE seasons writing her OUT of her sons’ story just for her to re-appear on time for her scheduled appointment with the fridge.
But they couldn’t do it because to have Mary back as a real fucking person would have meant, at some inevitable point in time, for the show to have her and her sons sit down and seriously talk about what the fuck happened since her death. To talk about John, to talk about the abuse, to talk about the demon blood, Hell, the Cage, the mark of Cain and, oh by the way we killed grandpa! Which means the show would have had to directly deal with trauma and they clearly didn’t want to go there. Only parallels and mirrors, mirrors and parallels. Mary never left that fridge.
