nine people to get to know better
Thanks to @vanilkaplays for tagging me!
last song I listened to: the last one I recall of the ones I actively listened to was Evanescence, Lithium. I generally fire up Radio Garden and put on my local radio station, or Radio Trölli in Iceland, or Radio Relax International in Ukraine, or go looking for new channels to explore.
currently watching: Wish is on the TV right now, but it's being skipped through by the watcher. I am slowly going through Owl House and am going to watch new Bluey episodes this weekend.
sweet/savoury/spicy: sweet edges out savoury. spicy food is not my friend.
relationship status: coming up on 19th wedding anniversary.
current obsession: not doing much particular fannish stuff lately, but am considering yet another playthrough of the old Baldur's Gate games with a slightly new variant of my usual charname; I am more thinking about planting flower seeds in my garden and such. Newest interest is discovering darebee is a whole website. I've started doing some of the lowest tier exercises there, have not made myself sick from it so far, and seem to be feeling a little better physically, so consider me pleased and motivated. (Context for why this rates obsession level importance: I generally function better with physical therapy exercises, but my last good manual therapist left, my health changed, and his replacement was not specialised for what I need and could not adapt my plan when I kept giving myself Bad Days in trying to start doing it again, so I quit. Now I feel like I am giving myself what I need again)
last thing I googled: something related to genealogical work of the 'there's something wrong on the internet that I want to fix' type.
As per usual, I am not actually going to tag anyone in particular. If you follow me and would like to do this, go ahead!
#tag game#I figured my answers would be eclectic enough today#for my own variant of eclectic that is

Lovestruck: Build/Buy
I like build/buy for the vision, but it's eclectic so if you want to use one of the specific styles, you don't end up with enough items to pull it together. For the most part it works well with Basegame items, but those are starting to show their age when used with the newer content from the latest packs. The tile backsplash is a wall object and great to have that flexibility, and I really love the plaster and flower mural walls. There is a ceiling beam item, but I removed it after using initially as I play top down and it kept getting in my way.
Build is a little confusing for me. The metal frame windows just seem too small for me, and I just couldn't think how to use them. Again, most items are made just for short wall height so if you like building with Medium or even tall you really only have the stone surround items to work with. They are by far the best, but I wish it had more options despite having curved variants which I probably won't use.
I definitely see myself making a build and buy mode addon for this pack to satisfy my own needs in the future, but I will have to play with the items more to see where they are lacking, and if I can fill the gaps.

I find Heart and Mind's relationship with Soul in the album itself to be interesting. Like- they see him as something to control? Something to be obtained to gain the upper hand? But they still care about him.
And I've seen SOO many interpretations of their relationship with Soul. Soul being the gentle mediator who had to take it another step because they wouldn't listen, Soul acting as the final judge between the two, Soul drawing away and being completely apathetic towards the two simply because he can't deal with them anymore... What is their actual relationship with him? I guess this will be my own interpretation.
Gonna be pulling lyrics from all sorts of songs here, bear with me.
The first half of The Soul Eclectic is Soul telling them both that they're stupid to think that THEY can control HIM. And this is somewhat enforced by some things in the other Mind Electric variants. "Call me your host, or call me insane, if that will help you stay in line."
"Warring all night, abhorrent and trite, you seem to forget you answer to {me}."
"You must be so arrogant to think that either of you can control the Soul so wholly when to be one whole you can't hold solely."
"Here in my kingdom I am your {Lord}, I order you to cower and pray/prey." From The Heart Acoustic:
"See how the Mind tricks the Soul into being something sickly, dead, and cold." From Light:
"But I won't be split in two. Won't be him, or you. We will be combined, whether that be dead or alive."
These are all I can think of right now, and most are from Soul's perspective. But to Soul, they see him as something to be controlled. Or at least, someone to gain the favor of.
But there are moments where it's clear they care about him. And if not at that moment, then at some point they cared about him. It's a lot more evident in Storm and a Spring, but there's some other places too.
"A Soul so deep, and dark, and eternally cold. And an oath formed from us both that it would stay whole. But I think if I left it to you, you'd fall under its weight, and kill it, too."
"So if you insist on crying while our host is slowly dying, then I'll cut you loose and spare this noose the dead weight."
From The Bidding:
"I believe, I concede, we can finally enweave. If not for you or for him, then please do it for me."
Considering The Bidding happens right before Light, the turning point, the point where they start finally seeing the other perspective, Soul must've said SOMETHING that got their attention. Whether or not it was the "please do it for me" is obviously up for debate, but considering they'd already made an oath to keep him whole, I don't think it's too far-fetched.
In Short: Heart and Mind care about Soul. Of course they do. But I think that, during cacophony, it's overshadowed by something. The need to control him, the need to have his favor, whatever it may be.
And when I say control him, I don't mean manipulate his actions; I mean manipulate his thoughts. Manipulate how he perceives one of them compared to the other. Which is something they already do with the audience.
Note to add: Their relationship from Soul's pov is definitely VERY different, I think. Throughout the album, Soul makes it pretty clear how vehemently he despises the two. But yeah.
#chonny jash#cccc#chonny jash mind#chonny jash soul#chonny jash heart#seth's ramblings#Well I'm filling that tag up pretty quickly aren't I hehe. I love doing these

are the zora of the river variety? would they be perceived as monsters by the other races? (Swamp Link)
- hero-of-the-wolf
That is a good question. River Zora in the games seem to be extremely territorial, so I don’t know if that would totally fit with some ideas I had (along with finding Link when he was small and deciding to raise him).
But then again... hmmm maybe there’s both kinds?
Maybe the Zora in the swamp are a somewhat eclectic mix of both kinds? Some Zora seem to be able to handle fresh and salt water okay, so it’s not too unreasonable that both would be able to live together. Maybe they’ve become a sort of secondary species even. maybe I’ll just make up my own variant of Zora that just hangs out in the swamp XD

In the right hands, the short story form seems perfectly suited to playing out the dark side of interpersonal – especially domestic – relationships. And Rumena Bužarovska knows exactly what she’s doing. In her collection My Husband, published in English by Dalkey Press last year (and in German by Suhrkamp earlier this year), the North Macedonian author, translator and activist offers a memorable series of portraits featuring various ghastly men and the women who suffer them.
These stories are skilful, precise and occasionally darkly humorous; one from her new collection, which will be out in English in 2022 or 2023, has been published online by Electric Literature. We caught up with Bužarovska before her ILB appearance tonight (Silent Green, Sept 13, 7:30pm) to discuss her worldview, her narrative craft and her feminist activism.
Welcome to Berlin! Have you been to the ILB before?
No, I haven’t. Of course I’ve heard of the festival, so it’s a really big honour to be here. There is so much on – I feel like I’m on some kind of pilgrimage [laughs]. The program is very eclectic, and there are a ton of great writers coming. I’m especially excited after all this time with Corona, not going anywhere and not talking to anyone. A lot of people are saying we all have social anxiety now, and that’s true, but I think it goes away after like five minutes. Things are just too interesting to stay away from!
You’ll be presenting your short story collection My Husband, which centres around what men do to the women they’re in relationships with. Do you compose it as a unified project, or gather individual pieces over time?
I love short stories, and I write them often. These ones all have an underlying theme, so the book is somewhere in between a novel and a short story collection. It actually came out as a kind of explosion – the first one I wrote was “My Husband, the Poet,” which came just after I had been to a huge, overwhelming literary festival and decided to satirise it from a woman’s perspective. But then I realised a lot of the same themes were present in other stories I’d written, and I also had other relevant ideas. So I decided to give it all one frame.
The stories themselves are often satirical – but they’re also rather bleak, and the women can sometimes seem hopelessly resigned. Do you see the world bleakly, or is it just in your writing? You seem like a warm and friendly person…
Yeah, I am! [laughs] I’m very optimistic in real life. I see the world as a hopeful place, but it’s also a place full of idiots [laughs] who are just imposing their ways of living on other people, who are full or prejudice, who are putting others down for their own sake. We know how the human condition is – it’s nothing new – but I looked at it specifically in terms of patriarchy, and how things work in Macedonia. I’ve been criticised that the women in the book just accept their situations, and don’t do anything against them. But I think that’s often just the reality, especially in patriarchal societies. I like to present these conditions, realistically, because it’s a way of criticising them. And if we’re not aware of them, then we’re not able to change them.
One constant throughout the book that’s so believable – but so disturbing – is the hold that all these shitty men have over the women in their lives. But it’s all from the women’s perspectives.
What I was trying to do was to give women these voices, even though a lot of the time they’re not aware of the power they have or how they might change things. But I also wanted to allow them to speak, and allow them to be flawed. A lot of these women say things they’re not supposed to say and do things they’re not supposed to do. And they admit to it, but in a sort of hidden way, minimising the consequences of their actions – just like people do when they speak in the first person. So I wanted to give them their own voices.
The idea of the title, “My Husband”, is that this is what often gets used to identify a woman: who her husband is, what he does, whether they have children. Not being seen as someone with a personality and profession in your own right, and having to struggle against the whole history of civilisation for that. I wanted my characters to start talking about their husband, because he’s what defines them – but really they’re talking about themselves.
At yesterday’s ILB panel about the influence of Toni Morrison, one of the authors said that Morrison helped them realise it was feminist to write women that are real, even if they happen to do dreadful things, because it’s the reality that’s important.
Yes! Toni Morrison also writes with a lot of empathy. And when you make real characters – when you normalise real women – then you also empathise with them. I hoped my book could generate empathy for the characters, that people would try to understand them. We need to normalise real women, because this hasn’t been done so much in literature. And sometimes it’s unpleasant – but who cares! There’s been so much unpleasant literature about men. And we know women read more than men. So why wouldn’t we want to hear about our own perspectives on things and our own experiences? Why wouldn’t we want to become real in literature?
The ILB is international by nature – and especially the series on misogyny, which involves authors from all over the world. As someone from a smaller country, do you think what’s the value of discussing these topics at a global level?
Well, I think patriarchy is a global problem, but it has its local variants. Variants! [laughs] And literature is exactly that: we’re always talking about universal things, but what makes it specific is the social context and the local idiom. This is why we can learn so much from each other and each other’s experiences. It’s so important to think outside your box. Your brain grows a little every time you get in touch with other people who have different experiences, different languages, different cultures – and different ways of seeing things. So I’m very glad to be here. It’s been greatly missed [laughs].
You’re also involved in feminist activism, right?
Yes, I’m part a feminist group in Macedonia – we have a very strong feminist movement there actually, although it doesn’t seem to be affecting the government, which is all male and, you know, they never include women in anything. We struggle with all the major problems of patriarchy – domestic violence, economic inequality. At least now we’re aware of it; it never got talked about before. I also co-run a feminist storytelling event. And we started a sort-of #MeToo wave in Macedonia a few years ago, which really put into perspective how women were abused and harassed, especially in the workplace and universities. It did raise awareness, but in terms of systemic change, I don’t think that comes very quickly – normally it takes years or decades. But you have to start somewhere!

Because I'm curious now, what are your favorite TTRPGs? One of my personal favorites is the Kids On Bikes system and its variants for their simplicity and ease of access for new players.
so first of all--kids on bikes is very cool. it’s a nice rules-light game with a pick-up-and-play vibe. haven’t ever run it myself but i feel comfortable seconding your recommendation. anyway here’s some of my FAVOURITE TTRPGS.
Blades in the Dark is probably my enduring all-time favourite game. it’s a little flawed in places but its core loop is pure fucking elegance at play. flashbacks (you can spend stress, a metacurrency, to have done something in the past) and resistance (you can also spend stress to evade something bad that happens to you) are two of my favourite mechanics in any TTRPG ever. every player character gets to be a competent badass while also facing real, tangible danger with every moment. not to mention an incredibly well-fleshed out and evocative setting in the gaslamp fantasy nightmare city of doskvol.
Eidolon: Become Your Best Self is a game that dares to ask questions like, ‘what if jojo’s bizarre adventure was good’ and ‘what if persona, also, was good’. characters manifest the power of their souls as weird freaks with incredible powers. the ‘reveal your master plan’ mechanic works much like BiTD flashback mechanic and a smart combat system where enemies get stronger as you fight them really makes this the perfect vehicle for creative character-driven superpower-based combat. if you subscribe to the developers’ patreon you can also get access to the draft of the second edition, which does some really cool fucking things like replacing dice rolls with a tarot draw.
Lancer is the game for people who like grid-based tactical combat. it has incredible tactical depth, well-thought out mechanics that interlace perfectly--and best of all, you get to design and customize your own mech from a truly dizzying array of options to find all sorts of fucking insane synergies between abilities like ‘teleport whenever you attack somebody’ or ‘do more damage the more you overheat’. it also has a very comprehensive suite of GM tools that make it a breeze, and even fun, to create and run a balanced encounter with clearly defined and narrativly interesting goals for both sides. i’m not too into the setting for reasons i’ve talked about elsewhere, but fortunately as long as you can accomodate ‘mech combat’ into your setting, none of the worldbuilding is load-bearing to the game’s core appeal.
Microscope is totally different from a lot of TTRPGs in that it’s noit about playing characters, but about creating a world. it’s a beautiful collaborative storytelling tool with deceptively simple tools that can easily add up into your table creating a world that’s way more intricate and eclectic and fascinating than anything one of you could have come up with on your own. good for creating TTRPG settings but also good just as something to play for its own sake!!
Dream Askew would probably round out my top five, but i’ve just posted about that one here--so instead i’ll give this slot to Nobilis 3e, a game that might not be one of my favourite games to actually play, but is genuinely fascinating to read and sit with, a fucking masterful work of both design and literature, something that so distinctly creates a world and a tone that it’s instantly magnetic. not for everyone, but worth checking out.

Sorry if I’m disturbing you but I would like to ask a question? I recently discovered this blog a few days ago and I’m started to take a bit of a interest in this, do you have any tips for newcomers or for anyone who wants to join? Thanks.
For newcomers, yes of course I can give a few tips. I assume you should have knowledge of and interested in both Sonic.exe and Sonic universes to understand everything better.
As a rule, try to approach Lord X as you would any other Pagan god and you can worship when starting in the style of your prefered Pagan religion like Norse, Kemetic, Hellenic or eclectic e.t.c if you don't know where to start yet. I'm in the process of developing my own set of worship rules and rituals for him and the rest of his pantheon to assure making it more original and fitting.
After you first approached him and introduced yourself to him, you should know that Lord X doesn't like direct worship like rituals or food/liquid offerings too much because he has a dislike of religion despite claiming to be a god and liking when people worship him.
He likes when you honor him in other ways like playing his games and Sonic games or creating fanart, fanfiction or other fan creations for him. Create your own EXE characters/ocs or make AU of Sonic.exe. Use your bike more or go for a walk, Lord X is a fan the sensation of speed and movement.
Also I'd look out for which variants of Sonic.exe or EXE ocs you want to honor because some have either questionable creators (Faker/EXE, NormalCD, Sonic.ERR, Exetior, Sark e.t.c) or the creator themselfs stated not to allow people worshiping their character (like Xenophanes' creator doesn't feel comfortable with people worshiping her character).
You should respect the creators because they are people and the EXEs are ocs. I personally follow Lord X from the Sonic PC Port but I call him Sonic.exe just so more people know what I'm talking about in general.
Follow your intuition and what feels right, try different things. I found that Lord X accepts incenses as offerings and likes lavender and coffee scents a lot.
That's all I can really say. This path is mostly UPG based as well and then taken from various sources of games and the Creepypasta stories of Sonic.exe.

Hi! Hope you're doing well :) just saw your post that your cat is healing up, yay! On to some happier days for you both :)
I have two MBTI/enneagram questions. Feel free to answer either/both/none, whatever.
Question 1
This is a tritype + MBTI question. I've been ruminating a lot this summer about tritype, and have found it to be super illuminating for me to use in conjunction with MBTI. It blows my mind that these theories can build on and work with one another and that consistent patterns can be determined to help us understand ourselves and others better! (ok, getting off the little soapbox now.) I've had some frustrations deciding how to distinguish functions from enneatypes though.
How does one know whether they're a 5 because they are (maybe they're a Ti-dom, etc.) or because they're in a Ti-grip or some Ti-loop when they take the test? Same idea with 7s and Se, or other enneagram + function combinations that are really common?
Does the person in question (you) have problems with minimizing their life rather than expanding it? 5s shrink their world. Make it smaller. Do without more things. Deny themselves experiences. Pull away from people. Remain hidden. Observers, not participants. If you have 5 in your tritype, that will show up. It's not the same as low Ti nitpicking or tearing people's words to shreds to humiliate them. Ti breaks things apart to understand them; strong Ti knows how to then put them together again, with a strong understanding of how the object, system, belief, principle, etc., functions. Inferior Ti can pull things apart, but can't always put them back together again.
You need to know functions and Enneagarm types enough to know the difference; 5 is not analytical, and Ti is not analytical. 5 is minimization of needing anyone, anything, of shrinkage and distance; Ti is deconstruct, study it to learn it, and rebuild it through an inner framework of comprehensive understanding. It's not just driving a car, but knowing how the engine functions.
[...] How would someone know whether their answers to these tests are indicative of enneagram or MBTI, in your opinion?
The tests aren't reliable. You have to do inner studying to determine your type structure. To be able to see each number's mechanisms operating in you, when you are using them. (EG, being fully aware that I'm using 2 mechanisms right now... that my 7 really wants to cut and run and not stick around to face the hard stuff... that my 5 just said no to an experience for no reason other than fear... that 9 is overreacting to someone raising their voice, and I'm interpreting that as Threat Level 6...) Enneagram is meant to give you a window into your own default mechanisms, so you can be aware of them, and choose whether to surrender to instinct or choose a different path. A test can start you on a path, but you really need to focus inward to know for sure.
Regarding INFJ or ENFJ... are people your entire universe or secondary to your inner musings? Fe-doms can't shut off Fe. People are their world. Emotions are their world. Human dynamics are their world. INFJs can shut off Fe. They often do so, and become too lost in their heads, inert in the outer world, and fearful of Fe connections, because they may lose themselves in other people and that would pull them away from their thoughts.
If you have any input on parenting effects, or whether being around lots of Fe-users impacts Fe-usage (especially since Fe is all about mirroring and blending in to fit what others need/norms), I'd love to hear it. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Your environment does impact you somewhat, but you are "you" when you are alone. What do you choose to do? Where does your focus go? How well can you dwell "inside myself" for long periods of time? The longer extroverts do this, the more uncomfortable, depressed, or imbalanced they become, because their natural focus is on the world and its potentials. Introverts do this easily, because their natural focus is on their "me" filter (the world passes through me / my dominant function, I'm not a fish swimming in it).

Types of Witches

Hello everyone! Here is the updated version of the WITCH TYPES list, including types that were missed and recommended. Please be respectful if there is some form of misinformation or typo on here; I tried my verybest and took a lot of my own time and energy to do as thorough research as I could with what I have available, which is a very difficult and long task for somebody with low motivation. I am very in favor of constructive and polite criticism, but I will not tolerate people leaving rude comments without even trying to help me fix and provide the best information possible! Thank you so much to everyone who so kindly informed me of what needed to be polished up and fixed, you are all very lovely people for handling it with patience ~ And keep in mind, beginner witches:
You do not NEED to identify yourself as a type
You can choose to identify yourself as NO type at all
You can choose to identify with as many as you like!
Anyway, enjoy! ➺ Rainy
Each type includes a simplified description (for those who haven’t heard of the type, just to get a generalized idea. The shortened description is in no way meant to be discriminative or disrespectful), a few examples, and almost every bolded term includes a link to a (hand-picked) useful post/website for that type of practice.
Types of Witches
(Some may also fit into the second category)
∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆
Solitary - Practicing by ones’ self; not included in a group
Secular - Non-religious / Not connecting with deity(s)
Eclectic - An individual’s practice that has bits and pieces pulled from different magickal and/or spiritual practices, respectfully
(Theistic) Satanic - Witchcraft that is often centered around honoring and/or working with satan in spellwork and prayer
Athiest/Laveyan Satanic - Witchcraft worked with the idea that satan is a concept, rather than a real person or entity (loosely put; it’s a very detailed concept). Also known as Satanic witches who fit the secular description.
Hereditary/Blood - Including oneself in the practice of witchcraft on the grounds of having been born into a family who also practices. Knowledge and practice may also be passed down through generations, and honor old ways of magick
Traditional - One who practices witchcraft by honoring and using old and ‘traditional’ ways of magick; this type of witch might be one to practice modern methods of magick, but they might also stick to traditional concepts or techniques
Christian - Witchcraft that is performed to honor / or is performed in conjunction with the Christian God as the primary and only deity
Hellenic - A form of non-witchcraft practice in which the practicer follows Greek ideals/culture and honors the Greek pantheon
Celtic - Magickal practice that is based from the Celtic culture, including its’ mythology, deities, old ways, and (occasionally) language / symbols. May also describe those who only worship Celtic gods
Science - A form of magick in which both metaphysical ideas and scientific facts/theories are mixed in together by the individual practicer
Types of Witchcraft
Keep in mind that each term’s explaination is the basic description of that type of witchcraft/magick; each individual witch might be a certain type but define it differently, as their practice may be different from the next witch
∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆
Green - Utilizing greenery/plants/herbs/flowers in herbal and natural magick, such as creating blends of different plants or using primarily herbs in spellwork
Hedge - Also known as an astral title, a type of magick that is oriented around more spiritual work; astral travel/projection, lucid dreaming, spirit-work, healing, and out-of-body experiences are all practices included in this magick
Dream - (A possible variation of Hedge) Mindful and internal magickal practice mainly based from interpreting dreams and/or engaging in lucid dreaming. Those who intensify as this may “de-code” symbols and messages in the dream world similar to how one would use a divination technique.
Sea - A type of magick derived from materials and abstract ideas involving the ocean and oceanic world. Sea/Ocean magick can be worked using seashells and bones, sea weed, beach sand, driftwood, ocean water, etc. and a sea witch might draw their energy from that of the sea!
Storm/Weather - Magick that is worked by combining one’s energy with the energy of the weather, and most commonly rain. Weather witches will do things like collect rain/snow water, absorb the energy of a lightning storm, “whistle up” or manipulate wind, predict the weather, etc.
Cottage / Hearth - (A slight variation from kitchen) Magick that is weaved, worked, or embued into mundane tasks around the house or for loved ones. Cottage/Hearth magick may be worked into daily tasks such as cleaning, cooking, or any hobbies
Kitchen - Magick that is worked specifically through “kitchen craft” such as herbal mixtures, brewing, baking, and cooking, and honors many aspects of the natural world: including herbs, crystals, fey, and the elements
Tea - Those who drink tea, make tea, use tea-leaf divination, or enjoy blending herbal remedies! A variant of Kitchen/Cottage witch
Tech - Magick that is skillfully worked through technology! A tech witch will most likely have at least a few magickal apps on their phone, digital sigils, or an online/digital BoS and/or Grimoire
Garden - While having a garden and/or working in any type of garden; magick that is mostly (if not all) herbal and botanical-related! Garden witches take pride and find it calming or invigorating to work the earth, harvest that which they have planted, and are closely related to Green type
Elemental - Magick that is worked by honoring/acknowledging the 4 or all 5 elements: Water, Earth, Air, Fire, and Spirit. Commonly an Elementalist will dedicate different areas of their altars to each element, call upon them during spells and rituals, and use symbols to represent each
Water - Specifically centered on the element of Water; water scrying, collecting sea/storm/snow/river/spring water, swimming/bath spells and other water-related actives, creating and using symbols associated with water
Earth - Specifically centered on the element of Earth; grounding exercises, rock/soil collecting, strong appreciation of the natural world, creating and using symbols associated with earth
Air - Specifically centered on the element of Air; working with wind, using air-related tools (such as the wand), creating and using symbols associated with air
Fire - Specifically centered on the element of Fire; Using anything fire-related (bonfires, candles, burning objects) in most spellwork, creating and using symbols associated with fire
Flora - Much like a Green or Garden witch, those who work majorily with floral materials and flowers in their practice and in their spellwork! Their grimoire may be heavily associated with flowers rather than herbs, and likewise, one might use flower properties in spell or craft work.
Urban Primative/City - For those who live or prefer the urban/city lifestyle; magick that can be worked without the seemingly “traditional” ways of witchcraft
Faery/Fey - Magick for those who communicate and work with the fey during spells and rituals. Usually, those who work with the fey may also leave offerings regularly, as thanks for the assistance of a faery in their spellwork.

Some animal witches might also use bones, wings, feathers, fur, skin, scales, (etc). from deceased animals in their magick, if they choose to do so.

Astronomy/Space - (A wider variant of lunar) Those who practice magick and correlate their beliefs in conjunction with the planets and stars! These witches may focus their magick with the properties of each planet, regularly read a horoscope or study astrology, and have a love of the stars and the night.

Crystal - Magick that is worked commonly with stones and crystals, such as during spellwork or for crystal healing techniques. This may also include chakra balance, crystal meditation… anything that uses crystals, really! A crystal witch may also have an extensive knowledge of stones, including how to identify them and using their properties.
Literary - Those who practice magick through books and literature; a literary witch may do thing such as using book divination, often study witchcraft/magick even after the “beginner” phase of learning, etc. Also a term used to describe witches in stories, books, or movies.

“Man with long opium [sic] pipe, in doorway” c. 1900-1901. Photograph by D.H. Wulzen (from D. H. Wulzen Glass Plate Negative Collection (SFP 40) of the San Francisco Public Library).
A Restaurant’s Cellar Door to a Way of Life
In pre-1906 San Francisco Chinatown, basement eating establishments served an important function for the large community of single male laborers by providing affordable and familiar food options. Many restaurants in old Chinatown operated basement commissaries to serve workers, while reserving the mid and top stories of the building for higher-paying clientele, including the merchant elite usually on the top floor. The subterranean eateries offered traditional Chinese dishes and acted as social hubs where patrons could connect with each other. Basement restaurants and cafes still exist in today's Chinatown, continuing to serve as gathering places where the neighborhood's eclectic culinary traditions of Southern China thrive.
The images of a cellar eatery’s entrance took on greater interest after my cousin and amateur food critic, Albert Cheng, deciphered the signage seen in a photo by D.H. Wulzen of a worker taking a smoking break (and definitely not, as the San Francisco Public Library has fancifully cataloged, an opium pipe).
Readers of this blog may recall that the partial signage seen in Wulzen’s photo advertises “… 生肉粥常便” (canto: “saang1juk6 zuk1 soeng4bin6 “; or roughly “raw meat congee often”). Cousin Albert indeed made the best guess that the partial, topmost character was “fish” or 魚. Thus, in context, the establishment served raw fish or 魚生 (canto. “yu4 saang1”) with its congee or “jook” all day.
Fortunately, other photographers took an interest in the restaurant owners’ children who were seen frequently outside the cellar. The resulting photos provided more signage details of the offerings by the basement commissary, usually frequented by the working class men of old Chinatown.
The configuration of the basement entrance and street topography in the Wulzen photo provide sufficient clues to tie it to two variants of Arnold Genthe photos that he published under the title "The Cellar Door."
“The Cellar Door,” c. 1896-1906. Photo by Arnold Genthe (from the collection of the Library of Congress). The signage behind the children reveals that wonton (雲 吞), and 魚生肉粥 (canto: “yu4 saang1 yuhk6 jook1”; lit. “raw fish congee”), can be discerned from the image.
Genthe’s photos of the restaurant proprietor’s children at the cellar door also serve, perhaps unintentionally, as a visual counterpoint to the “sojourner” mythos propounded by a generation of historians who essentially blamed the Chinese for their inability or unwillingness to assimilate. The mere presence of three children of working class parents signifies a deeper desire and contrarian narrative of Asian settlers on California’s urban frontier, instead of being declared rootless “sojourners.” This restaurant family, at least, put down roots to produce a native-born generation of Chinese Americans.
“Three children in front of a cellar door,” c. 1896-1906. Photo by Arnold Genthe (from the collection of the Library of Congress). In this alternative shot by Genthe, a girl appears, and she presumably was the youngest sibling of the restaurant operator’s family. The larger characters for the basement entrance signage reads from right to left: 酒晏常便 (canto: zau2aan3soeng4 bin6; lit. “drinking wine often”)
Genthe’s omission or cropping of his “Three children (etc.)” cellar door image for publication omitted the partial, but important, detail of a man holding a pot at the left of the frame. In an era before disposable containers, Chinatown residents as a custom would bring their own pots for restaurants to dispense take-out food items for delivery back home. Although my family had long moved out of Chinatown after WW II, my father continued to buy ready-to-eat food and bring his own pot to his favorite eating establishments for that purpose well into the 1960′s.
“Scene in Chinatown, San Francisco” c. 1900. Photographer unknown (from a private collection). The larger Chinese characters appearing at right read 常便 (canto: “seuhng bihn”) indicate conveniently served all day. Other photos of this entry to a basement eatery indicate the full signage above the children read 魚肉粥常便 (canto: "yu4 saang1juk6 zuk1 soeng4bin6"; roughly "raw fish congee all day"). In this photo, the children appear to have aged negligibly, if at all, when compared to photos of them taken by other photographers.
Thanks to Wulzen’s fellow photographers, the presence of children outside the cellar door was captured forever as an engaging element of old Chinatown’s streetscape.
Research about the precise location of the basement eatery continues.

Fanfiction Questions
from here
Fandom Questions
1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
Involved as in ‘frantically read every book I could get my hands on, daydreamed about being part of that universe and wrote stories/made art inspired by the books, if not actual fanfiction’? Mm, probably The Chronicles of Narnia when I was six or seven. The next great obsession was The Silver Brumby when I went through my horse stage around age 12, and then Sweet Valley High when I was 15. Hahaha.
2. What is your latest fandom?
Marvel! I’m not into comics and I’m definitely not interested in consuming every last bit of canon material or memorising the variations of every universe, but I love (most of) the movies and Agents of SHIELD is pretty cool.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
Star Trek Voyager. No contest. I venture to suggest that the older fandoms, the ones that are all about defunct shows, are a hell of a lot more chilled. Maybe because we’ve come to terms with our shitty canon endings and learned that liking the ship you hate doesn’t make someone problematic, unlike some newer fandoms I could name (Yes I’m talking about you, Game of Thrones fans. What the fuck.)
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
I’ve dipped a toe into one or two fandoms for shows or books I’ve really enjoyed and backed the fuck out when the vibe gets weird (oh hey, it’s GoT again), but nope. No regrets.
5. Which fandoms have you written fanfiction for?
All the Star Treks except TOS, and a Trek/MCU crossover. I’d like to write more for MCU someday. Plus I’ve written longhand entire notebooks full of teen romance shit that bore an uncanny similarity to SVH, and my first short story was a fantasy fic that featured a girl whose guardian was a wise talking lion who led her into mystical secret worlds, which is kind of familiar.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
Wow. I’m going to define ‘involved in’ as ‘cared enough about to have an OTP’, but I’m guaranteed to forget a ton. In no particular order:
Voyager: Janeway x anyone who can get her off
Discovery: Lorca x Cornwell or Pike x Tyler x Burnham (or any combination of)
DS9: Kira x Jadzia Dax
TNG: Picard x Vash, I guess? I don’t really have any TNG ships
ENT: T’Pol x Trip x Hoshi (or any variation therein)
MCU: Cap x Widow
AoS: Coulson x Skye... no May... no Skye... I don’t know
CAOS: Madam Satan x Zelda
Timeless: Garcy
The Good Place: Eleanor x Tahani
The 100 (shut up): toss up between Clarke x Bellamy and Kane x Abby
Veronica Mars: Veronica x Leo (first run), Veronica x Logan (s4)
Orphan Black: Cosima x Delphine
BSG: Apollo x Starbuck
SG1: Sam x Jack
Arrow: Olicity (so over the show now though)
This Life: Milly x Egg
Yeah you know what... I’m drawing a blank. I can’t think of any other shows where I’ve been invested in The Romance that much.
7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.
I’m too tired to do every fandom, and besides, I can come around to almost any ship if the headcanons (or fics) are convincing enough. I do have a few hard no-gos, but they might be someone else’s OTP so I’ll shut up about them.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Reluctantly. The MCU movies are not something I ever thought I’d enjoy beyond a dull evening’s entertainment. I never expected to get attached to the characters. And yet.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
Voyager is my forever fandom and the only one where I’ve really interacted with other fans. The best things about it? In general, everyone is just cool, accepting, open and basically awesome. And talented. I love my Party Bus people.
10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Sure. The 100, Veronica Mars and Agents of SHIELD are the ones I’d dip into more frequently. I really enjoy crossovers between Trek and BSG or the Stargate variants, too.
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
11. Who is your current OTP?
Janeway x Chakotay.
12. Who is your current OT3?
Janeway x Chakotay x Paris.
13. Any NoTPs?
A few.
14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?
Janeway & Tuvok! Also Torres & Chakotay, and I’d have killed for more Janeway & Torres in canon. (If they kissed sometimes that would be okay too)
15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?
Yeah. Paris x Seven. There are like two fics in existence, and yet ... the potential! (Sorry, B’Elanna)
16. Are there any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
Nope.
17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?
Janeway x Paris. And they’re still way up there, but not quite at the top.
18. What ship have you written the most about?
84% of my fics feature Janeway x Chakotay as either the primary or secondary pairing... holy shit.
19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?
Paris x Torres. I mean, I feel them. I just don’t generally feel the need to write about them.
20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?
Chakotay x Seven. In another universe, it could’ve been beautiful.
Author Questions
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
Actual story that was clearly fanfic? A farcical drunken romp told in the 24th century equivalent of email format called PADDemonium (see what I did there?)
22. Is there anything you regret writing?
Lol, a few things that should probably have never seen the light of day for various reasons, some of them leola related. But I’ve only deleted two fics that I can recall.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Relieved. It’s a 30k AU Chakotay moral dilemma backstory that brings in DS9 characters, Section 31 and his longstanding history with AU Janeway. I did so much research for it (way back in the days before memory alpha and chakoteya.net) and I’m really proud of how I wound in canon stuff across series but changed a few key bits and pieces. Only problem is, it’s a sequel to ...
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
... Pressure, which I can’t even read without cringing. My characterisation of Janeway, even Angry Maquis AU Janeway, is way over the top and there are moments that verge on Mills and Boon and give me first, second and third hand embarrassment. God, I’d love to rewrite it. Actually, that’s a lie. I want someone else to rewrite it so I can read it without covering my eyes and moaning.
25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
Desperate Measures, by about 70,000 light years, lol. Although Fragile Things beats it on bookmarks.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
You know what? A fair percentage of the time, I think of the title first and come up with a plot second. Aside from that, I prefer shorter, punchier titles that clearly tie into the story (Flight Risk, Speechless), though sometimes it’s song lyrics (Burn Our Horizons, your body like a searchlight) or a literary quote (Required to Bear, All the Devils are Here) or a turn of phrase from the story itself (The Prisons You Inhabit). Hey that was fun. Thanks for letting me pimp the shit out of my stories.
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Ugh, it depends on the day. Summaries are harder, I think. I never want to give away too much of the plot, but there has to be enough there for people to know whether they’ll bother clicking. Funny story: I actually ran the stats on this a few months back. Here they are for your edification:
Fics with a one line plot summary = 54%
With two or three line plot summary = 18%
With a short snippet directly from the fic = 16%
With a snippet + a one line explanation = 3%
With a one line plot summary plus a line to date the fic (eg "set in season 3", “episode tag to Worst Case Scenario") or the fic prompt = 7%
And finally, a quote from something other than the fic = 2% (that's only 3 fics).
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Ooh. I’ll say the final scene in Explosive.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
I used to regularly ask @jhelenoftrek and @littleobsessions90 to beta for me, and both of them are brilliant at it. Lately I’ve been posting without sending my stuff off for editing. This is partly because I’m impatient to get stuff out there, partly because I don’t have as much time to write/edit, and partly because I’m a little less focused on improving my writing and more on enjoying it for its own sake.
30. What inspires you to write?
Little bits of episode dialogue I haven’t noticed before, other people’s fanfiction, stray conversations, fic prompts, song lyrics, random headcanons, fever dreams, dares ...
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
I’ve been really lucky with comments on my fic. The least helpful comment I’ve ever received was on one of my early 30k fics and all it said was “Did you have to take the name of the lord in vain?” Which is kind of funny. The nicest thing anyone’s ever said? I’m very partial to the feedback that starts “I don’t even like this pairing/genre/trope/show but you made me love it”, and particularly “I’ll read anything you write, I don’t care what it’s about.” But all comments are gold. The little heart button is cool too.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
I’m not someone who can tune out music I love, or leave it in the background to inspire me. If it’s on, I’m fully invested in it. I’m that annoying person in the car who flips radio stations every three seconds until I find something I like and then it’s on 11 and I’m singing along to it. I’m also really picky but extremely eclectic, although there are genres I can’t stand (anything with autotune makes me stabby). That said, sometimes I find a song that I can’t stop listening to for weeks and often that perfect combination of music and lyrics will inspire me to write a fic. For example, I just plotted out an entire J/C story because of this song.
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
All of the above. Although I’m not sure if my longest epic is huuuuuge or just huuuge.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
101,467.
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I have two drabble collections. One is all J/C, full of responses to random prompts and I add to it sporadically. The other is episode additions set on Kathryn Janeway’s birthday (May 20) and added to annually.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
Angst, definitely. Sometimes it’s smutty angst or fluffy angst or hurt/comfort angst, but often it’s just fucking unrelenting angst. And I’m okay with that.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
I did the stats on this once, too, haha. Pretty sure I came out fairly even on first and third person with a smattering of second person in there. I’m probably even-ish on present vs past tense, too. I make it a point to mix it up to avoid my writing getting stale or same-y. And sometimes a fic doesn’t really click for me until I try it in a different POV or tense or from a different character’s perspective.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
I mostly write for canon characters - the fun is in all the different ways you can interpret and imagine them - but I’ve been known to throw in the odd OC, or focus on a character who only got a brief cameo appearance, or write about someone who only appears in beta canon, or who only rates a mention on screen.
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Oh, wow. I’m not sure. I guess the thing I value most about my own writing is my willingness to try different styles, characters, pairings and so on. The thing I strive for most is characterisation that feels true, and I really love it when I get comments on that. Exploring a character in a way that rings true with a reader is the best thing ever.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Overly long sentences and adverb abuse, haha. No, truthfully, there comes a point in most of my fics, particularly the longer ones, when I really just want to scrap it because in my heart I know it’s dreadful. Usually that passes once I slog through the ‘I don’t wanna’ stage because I’m a bloody-minded bitch, but sometimes fics do get left in the dust half-written. Honestly, though, they’re the ones that probably should stay there.
Fanfiction Questions
41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
This is hilarious because I was just talking on discord about my problematic ‘to read’ pile. My unread AO3 subscription emails currently number 29 and my phone browser has 71 tabs open. So here are 5 random picks from that list of exactly 100 fics I should be reading:
Sex on the Beach (E, Janeway/Chakotay) by @traccigaryn
The Ruby Ring (T, Janeway/Chakotay, Janeway/Tighe) by @trinfinity2001
Earth is But an Idea (T, Janeway/Chakotay, Carter/O’Neill) by @caladeniablue
Home (E, Janeway/Chakotay) by Cassatt
Wise Up (E, Janeway/Chakotay) by KimJ
42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:
Only five? Shit. Okay. In no particular order, these are five of the writers I keep coming back to:
quantumsilver (also here)
northernexposure
LittleObsessions
Helen8462
Cheshire
But there are so many others. My chosen fandom is chock full of amazing talent.
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
All of the authors above for various reasons, but also august because her writing is so spare and delicate and devastating, and runawaymetaphor because she writes the most delicious Janeway/Paris, and @seperis because I read In the Space of Seven Days literally 20 years ago and I still haven’t recovered, and I could be here all night raving on this topic but there are still many questions to get through.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
Janeway x Paris. I’m so happy there’s been a little bit of a resurgence in J/P fics lately. Thanks, @curator-on-ao3, you’re doing the lord’s work.
I’ll also take Janeway x Johnson content any day of the week.
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
What the hell? I can’t pick just one! Ugh!
... but okay, here’s the first one that came to mind when I tried to think about this: if you came this way by tree. I’m not sure I’d call it my favourite, but it’s one I revisit often. Ugh, there are so many other fics I’m thinking of now that I really want to list.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
Oh, that’s hard. I should probably pick an angsty smutty J/C because that’s a fair proportion of what I write and it’s good to let a new reader know what they can expect. But honestly, I think the best fic I’ve written is The Uncharted Sea. (It’s safe for work. Maybe not for makeup.)
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
The Archive, of course. Where else can I find ad-free hosting on a stunningly user-friendly interface with absolutely no moralising content restrictions and the world’s best tagging system? That Hugo award is well deserved.
Tumblr is good for headcanons and meta and gifsets and a few other formats that I’m less likely to post on AO3 because I’d feel like I was pissing off people who subscribe to me by giving them some random garbage.
I also have my own website, but I’m not really sure why. Sometimes I post fic there that doesn’t make it to tumblr or AO3.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
I try to. Honestly I do. I love it when I get reviews, so I figure paying it forward is the least I can do. I’m less scrupulous about leaving comments when I’m busy or reading on my phone.
49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
I mean, I love it when people reblog, but I certainly don’t expect it. @arcadia1995 is amazing for reblogging stuff *blows kisses*
Nobody owes fanfic writers shit, but I feel like there’s a tacit agreement that if you like what you just read for free and you’re on a platform that makes it easy to do so, you leave a review or at least a kudos, because I’m not gonna lie, posting a fic you’ve worked super hard on and seeing it get very few kudos or comments is a bit deflating. I’m sure a lot of us have been there.
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
During Voyager’s original run I was trawling the internet for Endgame spoilers (I don’t know why; I usually love surprises) and I guess I googled (or whatever the 2001 equivalent of googling was) something like “how does voyager get home” and somehow I stumbled across Revisionist History. At first I had no idea what I was reading - was this a lost story pitch that somehow got leaked? A professional novella commissioned by the showrunners?
Then I started following links and discovered yahoo groups and webrings and Trekiverse and fanfiction.net and all sorts of incredible things I’d never guessed at, including the now defunct ‘archipelago of angst’, a collection of Voyager writers who focused mainly on a darker Janeway than most of the other fic writers I was encountering, and I was hooked. So I wrote a few of my own pieces, and then I lost interest for 15 years. I’m still not sure how I got dragged back in.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Honestly, in what other way can I indulge my obsessions, hone my skills and talk about it endlessly with like-minded people? Where else can I instantly find a plethora of fiction about the exact topic I feel like reading about on my mobile device and for free? Fanfiction is fucking amazing and I’m so glad it exists in my life.

character intro; kale
Kale Leonidas Varela de Luna | he who basks in silver and gold
also known as ➵ kale
age ➵ 17
birthday ➵ 13 November, Scorpio
yearbook ambition ➵ to find peace
likes ➵ people watching, trips, outdoors, flowers, the sea, the stars
dislikes ➵ unnecessary cruelty, loud music, hospitals
Kale has always been believed to be the weaker one.
That was true, of course. Growing up, he was more susceptible to sickness, that even though both he and Aya loved dancing in the rain, he would be the one coming down with the cold and fever, and she would be as unbothered as ever, But his strength lies elsewhere, and this he knows. He has been plagued by visions and dreams he doesn’t understand, haunted by memories that he doesn’t own.
Kale is the weaker one, yes. But he is the catalyst to what may become a legend. Or, perhaps, a tragedy.
“Different doesn’t mean wrong.”
[More + Taglist under the cut!]
What You Have to Know:
Aya’s twin brother
Looks Like a Cinnamon Roll, Is An Actual Angsty Cinnamon Roll
gets sick often
his condition only seems to worsen as he grows old (science-wise i’m still figuring this part out)
very friendly and sociable, people find it hard to believe that he and Aya came out of the same womb
spurned on by the fact that they look very different, despite being twins
is Aya’s good conscience, and one of the few people who can talk Aya out of whatever she set her mind on
placid, kind, gentle, and warm
On Kale’s Character Conception:
Meet my babey!!!!
i already forgot where I took his first name (i have an idea but that’d be too spoiler-ish), but I knew his second name Leonidas was a variant of my grandmother’s name
i swear i didn’t mean for him to be nothing but plot device
but I’m doing better now!!! Or so I think.
which is also partly why i think i should introduce him too, despite not being a part of the Main Squad
in earlier versions he’s aya’s twin, then her younger brother
but apparently i failed to note why i changed it so back to her twin brother it is
don’t worry, i won’t change it again… for now?

Light; Ascendant of Glow, Visions and Darkness
Are you... are you sure that’s a siren?
Very little is known of the Light sirens due to their elusive nature and relatively small numbers (as far as we know). These sirens live in the deep, unexplored regions of the ocean and use their bioluminescence and light manipulation magic to lure in marine life with hypnotizing visions and colours. Lacking a true mouth, they are unable to form verbal sounds at all, instead communicating via messages comprised of images projected directly into one’s eyes by way of warped light waves. A Light siren cannot manipulate a visual it doesn’t know, so these messages are often incredibly difficult to comprehend due to the limited experiences of a creature typically confined to a dark, virtually empty environment.
Many believe they solely exist in siren folklore as monsters of stories told to frighten youth away from dangerous activities. With a Light siren’s anatomy being so far from a typical siren’s, it’s no wonder why that is.
MAIN ABILITIES:
Bioluminescence
Alteration and manipulation of light waves
Mild hypnosis
GENERAL TEMPERAMENT: Unknown. Stories speak of a monster more hostile and territorial than Surge sirens, one who abducts young sirens to torture them with hallucinations solely for their own amusement.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: Unknown. Likely solitary.
HABITAT: The deeper regions of the ocean, beyond the lowest point light can reach. Beyond that, unknown.
DIET: Omnivorous;
Marine creatures
Anything they can find or scavenge
Baby sirens???
MISCELLANEOUS INFO:
Light sirens resemble humans the least, appearing far more monstrous and suspected to grow far larger than all other siren types.
They may be cunning and highly resourceful, but their lack of exposure to other cultures makes them recklessly inquisitive and curious.
They collect anything they can get their hands on, only ranking less than Mist sirens in this respect due to their relative inability to access collectible objects.
These sirens closely resemble creatures of the deep who possess bioluminescence, most classically cephalopods, although other variants exist(? we think?).

2019 has been rough...
& it's Not Even October Yet
So, on top of personal mental health issues and family members having their own battles, and work being unpredictable with my shifts, a lot has happened with the non-human side of the family, not all good... not much good as far as my mental health tries to put it (I often need to be reminded to step back and see the "then vs now" of it all), so I'll try to do an update on that to the best of my memory (I've always been bad at remembering dates - I would forget my own birthday if people didn't fuss about it)
Sometime between January & February, a heatwave was the final straw for Cabaré who had been fighting a scale tumor (I know, my fault for not researching dragon scale variants before getting him) for 3 months, aside from the tumor, he was as active as he normally was, eating fine and his fins were recovering nicely from the fin nipping, but 45°C IN the flat with the air con running was stressful enough before the power started to cut.
Late February, a tank heater malfunctioned and killed a couple of my tetra before I caught it, thankfully, not too much trouble was caused and I had a spare heater on hand, various issues have stopped me from getting new stock for the shoal however, so it currently stands at 7 black neon tetra.
March... hooboi... uh, as much as I was meant to have a milestone birthday that month, the month was utter chaos... Shakita, my Gran's beloved Am.Staf previously posted about, had her age catch up in the space of a fortnight and had to be laid to rest. Another event, regarding people, unfolded days later that made it tempting to remove all reminders of the month altogether, looking for a timeline in chats from family, someone already has.
Early April, I had flown interstate on a holiday I'd organised around Xmas, so I allowed tank/pond plants to grow out; a mild regret in now I have to sift shrimp out of a 8×10×5 inch ball prism of moss before i can trim, seperate or transplant it. Amidst this, I also had gotten a female Betta; Beau-bo, named after Critical Role's Beauregard, I had intended to have a female in a display next to Cabaré just a few months earlier, but due to...reasons, I had let the empty tanks (quarantine + Cabaré's) go un maintained at all, a bad move that I'm still trying to fix in my own slowbutt pace, so she was put in beside the matten filter of the shimp/tetra tank. I managed to lose 1 of 3 rescue orchids but have had decent success with most of the terrestrial plants I've gathered admittedly with a few close calls. I also recieved news around late April/early May that a friend of mine needed to rehome their 4ft tank, so I set out to rearrange my flat so it could fit... this turned out to be a 3 month task as different bills and problems would pop up, including a vet trip for Ludwig who sprained his wrist, and we decided to get bloods checked for any nasties; an overactive thyroid gland due to age was causing his metabolism&appetite to soar, so a prescription was given.
I kept quiet about it, but I got some zebra danios for my little basin-ponds at around Xmas last year, the planted/natural filter pond having mild success breeding, however, winter and personal issues haven't allowed me to see whether the bubs made it through winter (I had to go away for a while and the ones I could find were 1.5cm when I did get to check - it will be a matter of headcount once time/weather allows me to get back in there)
So between June and August, I had been preparing for and focusing on the 4ft tank (my first tank over 2ft), especially when I was challenged to scape it. Thus far, the plants I was expecting to grow slow have gone mad and are due for another pruning, while the plants I expected to go mad and fill in are taking their time still. I have all 3 of the same fish that came with the tank (I was scaping it wet - not something I recommend with fine and/or planting substrates), 2 Angels and a Cory, however the quarantine tank I'd set up for the new cories (to give Dusty a shoal of his own) crashed (again, my fault for prioritizing other things) and I thought I saved 1, but he didn't make it through the next day, so that was a big bummer. I've only had the energy to do mild plant tending and water changes since. My cousin's household has also gained a few more sets of paws from G.A.P, so Jojo now has siblings that are his own size (almost - he was always tall).
And then we get to September, specifically this past week... Ludwig, the mascot & icon of this blog, got out and went missing after plumbers made a lot of ruckus (like, scared me awake in my flat next door noise), today is day 5 without his medications and mum has been beside herself about it. But we couldn't let ourselves be too shaken as we were in order to recieve a rescue Greyhound to try and help my little sister with her mental health. Scout, a huge 9 month old pup who was pulled before being raced due to injury arrived earlier today.
So, that's how the year has been playing in regards to my nonhuman fam and a little about the human part.
Hopefully, Ludwig finds his way home (we've notified council and neighbours, but 8ish years ago, vets refused to microchip him because he was already over 5yrs), and I hope to get back in the habit of photographing things, but that might have to wait for my phone to be repaired and my head to have cleared a little.
I have been vaguely active on my new started in April while I was interstate Instagram account with the same name as my main blog (it is just as eclectic as that main blog too, probably)

Where are the original manuscripts of the bible
On the Greek side, three uncial codices generally serve as the most important witnesses for the (eclectic) editions of the Septuagint: B, S, and A. Screenshot of Codex Leningradensis from. Nonetheless, this typographical facsimile is not keyed to the photographical facsimile, meaning that one still has to search the text manually to find any passage or term one might like. In this case, however, one has the added advantage that the main text (that is, without the Masorot) is available in a typographical facsimile, though only at other sites (see my previous post). Again, searching or copying the facsimile’s text remains impossible, and hyperlinks to any divisions into books, chapters, and verses are lacking as well. Thankfully, it lacks any added watermark or the like on the images. In contrast to the images of the Aleppo Codex, one immediately notes the lack of color and the generally poor, though still usable, quality of the digitized images. While I have thus far been unable to find an online photographic facsimile from the library itself, there is a digitized photographic facsimile available at. Since this manuscript is-in fact-fully complete, it serves as the basis of the most important diplomatic edition of the Hebrew Bible: the Biblia Hebraica Series, beginning with the third edition (i.e., BHK). Petersburg, more commonly known as Codex Leningradensis. The claimant to the title of “oldest complete Hebrew bible manuscript” is Codex B 19A of the Russian State Library in St. (An older screencap from before the watermark was added). Also, each image includes a note in the center toward the bottom about who owns and photographed the image.Īleppo Codex: The End of Joshua and the Beginning of Judges. This remains particularly disadvantageous, as no typographical facsimile of the Aleppo Codex is available to date. It is also not possible to perform lexical searching or copy text from the manuscript. For the time being, calling up the site redirects to the raw digital photographs of the individual folios in the order they appear in the manuscript with no hyperlinks to a specific book, chapter, or verse. (According to a personal communication from the site’s administrators, a new version is anticipated in the near future). However, due to this site’s reliance on Flash technology, which is currently being phased out, it is currently defunct. Until recently the Aleppo Codex had an official website,. Housed at the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, this manuscript provides the basis for the editorial project of the Hebrew University Bible, a long-running diplomatic edition of the Hebrew text with extensive apparatuses that is, as of yet, far from complete (and without a current official website). The Aleppo Codex presents the oldest (formerly) complete Hebrew bible manuscript. My focus here is on the most important Hebrew and Greek manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible and its Greek translation (the Septuagint)-those that are generally used as the primary texts for either diplomatic or eclectic critical editions-and the problems their online presence has not solved. At the same time, the online condition of most manuscripts leaves much to be desired. The online availability of these manuscripts, a few of which I would like to focus on here, affords biblical scholars an unprecedented opportunity for research and teaching. Fortunately, many of these manuscripts-particularly the most important ones-are now available online as digitized photographic (and less often, typographical) facsimiles. Rather, we find ourselves before a plethora of manuscripts and variants. Digital Orientalist’s 2022 Conference “Infrastructures”īiblical work obviously primarily relies on working with “the text.” However, as anyone involved in biblical studies knows, there really isn’t one biblical text for any given pericope. The Digital Orientalist’s Virtual Workshop and Conference 2021.
