One of my absolute positive thoughts on S3 is that it has my most favourite soundtrack by Ryan Carlson of any season, might even go out of my way and say that S3 has the best soundtrack in the whole series :0 Listening to a few songs from it after so long single-handedly saved me from a terrible mood tonight, I just love getting lost in each song and reliving the scenes they were made for.

(This is also another way of me saying that "The End" is—and I mean this genuinely with no exaggeration—the GREATEST song from a TV series soundtrack I have ever listened to and to ever grace television and animation <33)

The last song that was written, the last lyrics that were written was (for) the song “Hooked.” It starts off with the line, “I’ve got the fear / I’ve got the human fear.” And I realize that so many of the songs had an underlying theme of fear to them. But not necessarily succumbing to fear, but more like overcoming fear. “The Doctor” is about the fear of leaving an institution, and “Bar Lonely” is the fear of leaving a relationship. “Night or Day” is the fear of committing to a relationship. But fear is fascinating because fear is universal. We all experience fear. We all experience the same fears. But how we respond to it is individual. And that’s how we find who we are, our personalities. And overcoming fear feels good. That’s why we watch horror films or ride rollercoasters — because you overcome fear and then feel very alive for having done so.

I went into Wicked (2024) with high expectations but also very little knowledge of the original musical and I thought that was the ideal state to go into it for peak enjoyment and least disappointment but idk it just didn’t do much for me and I can’t put my finger on why. Besides knowing that the colour grading for half the movie was pissing me off. The songs and performances were really good and enjoyable overall. Loved some of the shots in defying gravity like the wide shot of her in the huge cloak against the sky looking down at everyone in the tower? Yes. maybe it was the questionable pacing that got me or maybe my attention span is actually just truly fried. Or maybe it was the improv quips count. Or the fact that they marketing it as “almost no cgi!” And then I had to look at all those damn cgi animals. Not that I’d want real animals but like. Why market it as low cgi. I know they meant for the sets mostly I guess but the lighting and colouring made all the sets look cgi anyway. Or Maybe I just needed to have a pre existing affinity for the story after all. But at least it got me to finally listen through the original Broadway recording afterwards. Also unrelated but during the last third of the movie some random nine year old started doing cartwheels in front of the movie screen

Obviously a lot of season 2 focuses on Jinx's compassion and love and kindness, what with Sevika's new arm, getting her family back, and everything with Isha. But one scene that really struck me is when Ekko tries to talk her off that roof. She pulls the trigger again and again before he can even speak cause she knows he'll change her mind. But what struck out at me was that, when he complains about being blown up, she opts instead to throw herself from the roof. She had it all planned out but would choose to improvise rather than harm someone who considers her a loved one.
