Blazed through The Goblin Emperor and I’m devastated there’s no sequels - did put a hold on The Witness for the Dead, which picks up in the same world with a side character.
I think this was the first book I’ve read since childhood whose storytelling and tone called back the feelings I got when reading Crown Duel, The Blue Sword, The Queen’s Thief, and Sabriel. Sort of that lyrical mythic feeling.
Love it entirely. Maia is such a gem of a male protagonist, and he was so kind and simultaneously so relatable and human (well, you know what I mean).
I loved how developed the world was, too. So detailed without feeling like it’s an exposition-fest.
I think this book would also appeal to the people who love Peeta Mellark, because there’s a lot of character similarities there, and Miles Vorkosigan, who is more brash but who also has to fit into a world and society that only sees his outside.
ALSO: the fact the the elves’ and goblins’ ears wiggled and moved around in reflection of their mood and reaction is SO GOOD. It’s usually all “ooh they’re pointy-earned elves with silky hair” but these elves have to be aware of how their ears pin back or droop when they’re having An Emotion. It makes so much sense and is also so endearing; loved it.

IT’S HERE!!
Check out the first episodes of The Wandering Path TODAY, wherever you get podcasts! That’s our worldbuilding 2-parter AND our first story episode, “Time To Wake Up, Little One!”
I’m so proud of this show. My players Bex Taylor-Klaus, Lyn Rafil, Ian McQuown & Mayanna Berrin are all crushing it both individually and together, and y’know for my first time as on-mic talent I think I’m doing a pretty good job too! It’s got resonant story themes, immersive sound design, and an EXCELLENT soundtrack. I think we’ve cooked up something really special here, and I’m so excited to finally be putting it out into the world.
Come wander with us!

I have Kagewani on repeat bc Banba Sousuke Sensei is Suguru Geto in another life and this shit is healing.
Potential series spoilers ahead (the whole thing is like 3hrs so it's easy to catch up on), but I'll be showing its similarities to jujutsu kaisen.
So he's one of the best of the best, he's strong and gentle and I KNOW his hair is soft. He even absorbs this orb of basically curse, and can manipulate it, though it hurts him.

Possibly a stretch but this eye mask reminds me of sukuna.
And this kid is a mix of AU Junpei / Yuuji. But his name is Satoru

Also there are minor characters named Yuuta, Saori and Takeru (idk if they're spelled the same in Japanese though, and they don't resemble characters by that name in JJK).

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

I’m sorry but all y’all are sleeping on Olivia Atwater and I’m here to fix that for you.
You want representation? You want social commentary? You want inverted fairy tales? You want whimsy and incisiveness and super-scary fae?
You want Olivia Atwater.
Half a Soul: MFC had half her soul stolen as a child, and has never been “normal” since. Now, as an adult, this privileged-but-unwanted-and-overlooked gentlewoman gets invited to participate in the types of Christian charities that were so popular at the time. Confronted with the horrors of a work house, and the mysterious illness that is keeping children asleep until death, she partners with England’s premier Lord Sorcier to unravel what’s causing so many children to die.
You get social commentary, an autistic coded MFC, and a delightfully cantankerous wizard MMC in one book. Can’t go wrong.
Ten Thousand Stitches: Cinderella, but she falls in love with the fairy godfather. We’re all aware of the backbreaking and ceaseless work it took to keep a Great House going, but we rarely get to read about housemaids being the FMCs. Effie has always been smart and capable, and she knows that she has a good position even if her Family is pinch-pennying and has fired all the footmen. Even still, when the opportunity presents himself to make a deal with a Fae lord so she can get one of the Family to finally notice her, she can’t quite resist the temptation even while knowing it’s an awful idea.
In this book you get: class struggles, patriarchy at all levels, a period-accurate semi-literate-but-still-dead-smart MFC, and a wonderfully Howl-like fae godfather who really is trying very hard to Understand The Humans. Superb.
Longshadow: I’m on this one right now. Looking forward to it. We’ve got a baby sapphic wizard on deck looking to partner with a suspiciously apt laundress and an adopted brother who is a ghost set against a backdrop of Regency Polite Society. Also, Dora from Half a Soul is Abigail’s mum and I’ve never read about someone having an autistic mum before and she loves her so much I’m not crying you’re crying.
