The shutter sound snaps and captures the linear streams of golden drenching the luscious green in an almost palpable sheen, reminding me of the treacles of honey being deposited on awaiting squares of flakiness. The scenery mimics my iris, where I let it linger for a little longer. Walking into the room, the dreary does not pass my sensibilities, and I step back out to let the warm currents pierce me once again.
The following day, my fortune takes a bow and I visit a dwelling that itself dwelled in my heart since I was child. My heart skips a beat upon witnessing it in its full glory; perhaps it went back to the time the residence took foundation. The red tiled roof against the bleach white walls, like the dusk bleeding its farewell on a blanket of fresh snow. Creepers mark the path, and the rows of petaled jewels usher me into that archive of an abode. Stepping in, I’m first greeted with the scent of limestone, followed by a waft of jasmine, perhaps from the incense, perhaps from the silver braid of the woman of the house. The space is suspended in a time before, and I can feel myself regress to a cooler summer with every passing second. The shelves around the room are chock full of reminders; reminders to hone, reminders to seek, reminders of benevolence, reminders of spirit, reminders of patronage, reminders to create, and reminders of decay. Each merchandise on those stone shelves loudly boasted of its fineness; the meticulously weaved threads, the highly refined and finished edges, the laboriously carved impressions, the tanned leather beaming with its glossy surface. If you kneeled closer to the ground, however, perhaps to feel strands of a bamboo basket on your fingertips, you would hear the quiet pleas running through these prideful declarations; the plea to be saved from extinction.
A tinkering from the adjacent room grabs my attention, and I float towards it as if in a state of hypnosis. My eyes bear witness to a figment of my imagination; the sunrays from yesterday tip their hats through the windows near the ceiling, greeting me once again in an unbending, militant fashion. They lay to rest, as if spent from their journey of lightyears, on the glorious wooden swing that resides in the middle of the room like an unyielding but nurturing patriarch. Two hangings of earth lamps flank the swing and sway lightly in the breeze entering the room, making that soft tinkling noise, mimicking the rightly analogous fireflies. There is a painting of an infantile holy figure on the left wall, its blue striking against the copper lap that is perched right above it.
As I was leaving, I noticed another characteristic of houses from the bygone era: the high ceilings, which make anyone standing under them feel invincible, make them feel as tall as the walls themselves, and offer them plenty of space to explore and make mistakes. It is exactly the kind of place tradition and heritage would prosper in. While I walked out with my arms full of many commodities, I also walked out with a lingering question; these symbols of craftsmanship that will now adorn my bookshelf, that adorn the dresser of another, and that adorned the rooms of that fantastic house, will they get lost in time or passed down with it? Do they represent the time gone, or how it stands still while the world goes by?

In the West, poetry is written primarily for the afficionado, often other poets. In recent years, I can think of very few poets whose work is on everyone's lips. Perhaps Maya Angelou comes close, maybe Dr. Seuss.
But in Indian culture the situation is different. Tagore's poems - not only his songs, but the words themselves - are known to even the illiterate. Poetry is mass culture.
So it was with Faiz, and before him, Iqbal. Lazard writes:
When he read at a musha'ira, in which poets contended in recitations, fifty thousand people and more gathered to listen, and to participate. People who barely have an education know Faiz's poetry not only because of the songs using his lyrics but also the poems themselves, without musical accompaniment.
But poetry, in these cultures, as in Palestine, has a wide reach, and becomes an instrument of power. Faiz, Iqbal, and Darwish knew it. Like Tagore, they were not merely poets - they sought to transform society.
In an earlier version of the present introduction, written immediately after Faiz's death, Lazard was more personal, more elegiac:
Once when we were saying good-bye after our time in Honolulu I asked for his address. He told me I really didn't need it. A letter would reach him if I simply sent it to Faiz, Pakistan.
The reason - he had helped found the postal workers union. They were his people. They knew where to find him anytime.
So this is where Faiz came from when we met in Honolulu in the winter of 1979.
(Annual of Urdu Studies, v. 5, 1985 p. 103-110)

Would you ever do a yandere oc based on an urdu male lead? Maybe even with a foreigner reader learning his culture as an overseas worker?
-Thank you for reading!
OFCCCCC!!! Okay so I'm thinking of 2 Pakistani men, and these guys are bffs. OC #1 is a handsome dude that was born with a silver spoon, lives in a big ass haveli (or mansion. Just Google it) with his family- his parents and 3 brothers and he's the youngest and most loved of them all. This OC (I can't decide what job he has, so I'll leave it to u guys to vote on) is either going to be a business man who inherits his father's company, OR he can be a lawyer (very successful). OC #1 appears to be a cocky and overconfident, PLAYER who has the best luck but he's actually really hardworking and smart and was on the Dean's valedictorian list, he just doesn't take life too seriously. Hes very charming and charismatic and everyone wants to either be with him or BE HIM. His carefree attitude is often mistaken as him not being serious in any aspect of his life- be it love or career. But that's totally not true. He's worked hard for everything in life, and he may date a lot of people but he always makes sure that his dates know from day 1 that he's not serious about them. That it's just a fling.
OC #2 is a guy who's dark and brooding, completely opposite of sunshine OC #1. It's a mystery how the two ended up as best friends (OC#1 met OC#2 in kindergarten and demanded to be friends with him. #2 said no at first, but quickly came to realise that #1 was a true friend when he'd always share his lunch with him because #2 was dirt poor). This oc was basically very poor and had to work very hard from a very young age if he ever hoped to support his single mother(who he loves very much). His IQ? ITS 192. He's very intelligent, but still sort of keeps to himself, low key comes off as rude because of how quiet he is, seems and sometimes is least interested in other people (but that doesn't mean he doesn't notice them. He remembers everything). Growing up, his only friend has been OC #1, who he likes to pretend is a nuisance but he actually cares about him, especially because OC #1's family even treated him as their own. The two of them always did everything together, even applied to the same schools and would always have a friendly competition among themselves (no one else could even imagine to compete wuth them because theyd 1000% lose). OC #2 is very prideful and he never accepted charities, not even from his bff, was the valedictorian of his college (he was the top student in every institute he ever went to, and always got the first position in every exam he took). Not only is he academically very smart, but he's also very good in sports. So he's an all rounder. His job (again u guys have to decide) could be either business man (he started his own tech company.) Or he could be a lawyer (to fight injustice with his bff) OR he could be a SPY!
So basically, the story would go like Y/n coming into their life and yknow the basics- she's not fawning over them, is smart and independent, feminine and just like best girl everr. Anyways, the of them fall for her simultaneously, but you are the one thing that neither of them will ever compromise on, AND DONT BRING UP "SHARING YOU" they will actually murder whoever brings up the idea because monogamy is a big thing among these men (unless ur a Muslim guy, u can technically marry 4 women, but most don't opt to because they're very possessive and also the INFLATION???) Both of them are very possessive and are keeping tabs on you at all times.
Names for OC #1: Zulfiqar, Halim, Ibrahim, Ali Asghar, Haroon
Names for OC #2: Hashim, Mahir, Mehmet
Okay so help me choose their careers and names! And feel free to send asks for them. I'll answer them.

I really loved that Marauders Dark Academia post <333 I was wondering if you have any other Indian James Potter headcanons? About him or his family etc
Ohhhhh i have sO. MANY.
He does that thing where you slurp chai, click your tongue and say 'haaaaa!' Sirius and Remus give him so much shit for it for the first couple months, but then they start doing it and Peter finds it annoying and suddenly everyone in Gryffindor is being subjected to extremely exaggerated 'haaaaa!'s
He absolutely loathes it when people say British food tastes good. He gets into so many arguments with Peter about it because "come on, mate, that's the sweetest chai my mother makes, she's even skipped the ginger, how do you find it spicy?* "It has cinnamon, Jamie." "Cinnamon is fucking sweet, you little—"
He's obsessed with literature and poetry. Like, even obsessed is a mild word. People think Remus is the type to read books but no, wolf boy over there wouldn't touch a book if he didn't abso-fucking-lutely need to. James is the real bookworm— he got it from his Baba, who waxed poetic about Rabindranath Thakur and Vivekananda and Ghalib and Faiz Ahmad Faiz and told James that their writing was amazing and then there's this little boy reading under his covers with a little ball of not-so-accidentally conjured light which is how he gets his glasses before he even goes to Hogwarts.
He's three quarters Desi. His mother was from India, and his father was half Indian, because James' paternal grandmother was also from India. Specifically, both women were from pureblood Maratha lines.
He does the head movements. All the head movements. Sirius picks it up after spending literally all their time together, and Remus and Peter laugh themselves sick about it so many times, oh my gods.
Sirius learns Marathi, Hindi and Urdu from James' parents in secret and surprises James during the holidays after sixth year because he has the proper accent down and everything. James cries (but he won't admit it)
The Potter family, except James' paternal uncle Charlus and his wife Dorea, live in India till right before his 11th birthday, when the Indo Pak war breaks out. Then they move to England.
James has so. Many. Cousins. He can't remember the names of half of them and he hates how the atyas and the maushis and the mamis pull his cheeks when he visits the country, but he puts up with it because family is important to him. Also he loves playing with the toddlers and babies, they're fucking cute.
Loves kajal so much it's borderline unhealthy. There will always. Always. Be a line of black under his eyes, winging out slightly at the outer corners. Sometimes, when he's feeling himself, he will draw the wing out to a dramatic, bold style that makes the light brown of his eyes look so much more beautiful (Lily drives herself crazy over it).
Absolute pants at waltzing. He loves the music, sure (he can play almost every sheet of piano music he can find on the first try bc baby boi is a Pureblood brat /affectionate/), but he hates the dance style. He'd much rather wrap his ankles with ghungroo and dip his fingers into alta dye, because bharatnatyam is the ultimate dance form and you are wrong if you have any other opinion.
He was really good friends with the Patil twins' parents and family. They would get together to talk shit about the gore loka and Sirius would get mock annoyed that James almost never took him because "Jamie we're practically married already what the fuck mate"
He's really fucking good at maths and arithmancy, and he really fucking hates it. Stupid numbers and their stupid calculations kashyasathi kartoy mi he kay upayog tari ahe ka hyacha (marathi— why am I doing this is this even of any use) but he has a point to prove to snivellus and fuck if he isn't proving it. It also helps that his mother made him complete all fourteen levels of abacus (seven basic and seven advanced) by the time he was fourteen.

MOD'S CHOICE POLL
Mod's own propaganda under the cut:
Sasha as Red Riding Hood:
During submissions, I became so absolutely excited when I saw this pop up. I don't know who decided to submit it, but they unlocked some childhood memories for me. Back when I was a child, my family visited Pakistan (my parent's country of origin) for the entire summer. One day I, bored, asked for some movies to watched and my parents and uncle brought back some clearly bootlegged DVDs dubbed in Hindi/Urdu, and Bratz Kids Fairy Tales was one of them. I watched it so many times, you have no idea- I think that I might have wrecked the whole DVD with how much I watched it. (A similar thing happened later on when I obtained a clearly bootlegged copy of Bratz Fashion Pixie too but that's another, non-Red Riding Hood related story.) I wasn't surprised that it was eliminated right off the bat, but my childhood nostalgia dictated I put it here, or else I would be betraying the 7-year-old in me.
Shang, Tao, and Paotze:
Another childhood favorite of mine. This picture book has such beautiful art and I remember being very surprised by the story as a child. I found a PDF of it online to reread when the contest started and honestly it still holds up. The three sisters that are the Red Riding Hood in the story I feel are genuinely very clever. And for nothing else, look this one up solely for it's beautiful art which is just breath-taking whether you're a child or an adult!
Lamb:
Not going to lie I never played this game. My good friend who I adore submitted this to the poll and it immediately got eliminated and I just felt bad lol. But it does look cool & I trust their taste so I do think that this game is great. I want to play it but I am really bad at getting myself to play games.
Aku:
Samurai Jack is a CLASSIC and I dare you to not watch this clip and crack up. Mako was a gift of voice acting and I miss him so much. Also this episode is just pretty amusing.
Amy Lee:
My sister was actually the one to submit this and I will use her own propaganda here: "Evanescence was a voice of a generation." Honestly this song is kind of just okay, there are better Evanescence songs, but got to respect the effort they put into the music video. Who can resist to choose Amy Lee anyway?
The Path sisters:
Like many people who know this game, I know it through Izzzyzzz's two video essays on it. I didn't play the game afterwards, but I did watch some play-throughs since I don't play many games + it seemed mostly like a walking simulator anyway so I felt like I got the same effect. It is AMAZING and has so much story and analysis and I love shit like that... In particular, Scarlet, Ruby, and Rose are my favorites whose stories really resonated with me, even if I haven't exactly gone through their life experiences. Ginger too. And there's some really horrific imagery in Robin's...I would recommend everyone find a way to experience this game-- whether that's playing it, watching Izzzyzzz's videos, or finding a walk-through/analysis of it, it's worth it!
Lisette:
So this manga is sort of obscure but it is also sort of nostalgic to me. Well, nostalgic by proxy. My sister read it when I was younger and told me some details about it and for some reason it stuck with me. Like??? For no reason. It's not even that good lmao. The first chapter right off the bat is pretty edgy & handles sensitive topics very badly. But goddamn if I do not think about random elements of the story for no reason. I don't really remember shit about Lisette but hey this picture of her looks really cool.
Red:
If you notice a theme among these being "nostalgia" you would be right, as this was another nostalgic offering from my childhood that I would watch semi-annually. I was also fond of the sequel, though I thought it felt like a different series than the first one. (Which isn't unusual with animated sequels to popular movies, but the fact that the sequel was set-up by the ending of the first one implies it was planned? Weird). But anyway Red is iconic and funny and voiced by Anne Hathaway and also her sad emo song "Red is Blue" sometimes still gets stuck in my head, so take that as you will.
Chacha:
I know absolutely nothing about this series. But it looks very cute so I like it. I love cute magical girls they deserve the world. Also I looked it up and apparently the Studio who did the Akazukin Chacha anime would later do the Yu-Gi-Oh animes from the 2000s and 2010s, so there's the obligatory mention of nostalgia.

As-salamu'alaikum sis, i have started to like a person because of his deen; he is very pious and posts about islam only. But i am very scred to talk to him and how can i get away from this liking as it is consuming me day and night 🥺
Walaikum assalam warahmatullah wabarkatuhu.
You don't need to talk to him, unfollow that account. And if you find yourself visiting it often, delete your own accounts.
Not everyone you find pious on social media is as such in real life. It's a dangerous trap and it'll be foolishness to believe that everyone who posts about Islam only actually lives by everything they post online. I have seen plenty of "Dawah page" holders in real life missing their obligatory salat and fasts in Ramadan... spending nights playing videogames with their buddies and preferring their time to spend in editing reels n posts instead of actually learning the Deen. Unqualified people have made a trend to start Dawah pages. SubhanAllah. Allahu Musta'an. So don't take it too seriously. It's pretty natural to develop such feelings but don't dwell on it. Lower your gaze from that person...yani... don't see their posts n all at all. Alhamdulillah...when it's out if your sight, it'll be out of your mind with conscious efforts. Seek knowledge through actual, qualified scholars. Dm me... I'll share some useful links of channels where you can learn directly from Madina University teachers, and also Umm ul Qura University teachers. May Allah bless them immensely. Spend more n more time with Quran. If you can read Urdu, read 'Main Anmol' by Nemrah Ahmed. And also, keep making Dua to Allah to save you from everything that's not khayr for you. Allah will help you get rid of feelings harmful for your heart. In Sha Allah. Make a lots of Dua, Istighfar. And look around you...look at the condition of the Ummah, look at the tests of your brothers n sisters n children. And then compare your problem to their calamity. You'll find you're worrying for nothing. Don't give in to such wasawees of shaytan when he makes you think you're in love. This liking will lead nowhere except heartbreak and regret. May Allah save us all.
#may Allah make us better than what people think of us and forgive us for what they don't know about us. Aameen#asks#anons

Hi I don’t know if this is welcomed or not but I live in a city where the Muslim population is quite segregated, I only know how to speak the Hui dialect of Arabic so I cannot connect to those that speak Farsi or Urdu but I want to because I’ve been raised by people who were Muslim and even if I am not I do strongly want to convert, I’ve been trying to learn the predominant language that the Muslims in my city speak but it is very demoralizing because there are not a lot of language apps that leach Urdu and if I learn Farsi only a certain percentage of the people would speak it, and I was wondering if you have any advice as to how I can approach this situation.
I’ve read the Quran and have been an active member of the masjid in my home town but since moving here I’ve lost all community I’ve managed to build for myself and I’m finding it very hard to find community. The people are all very welcoming but English isn’t their first language just as it isn’t mine and communication is hard. The Imam of my local mosque is very welcoming and answered a lot of my doubts and recommended me a lot of readings but I still miss the community I had in my home town where almost everyone spoke the same lingua Franca as me.
I don’t want to lose faith nor do I want to abandon this road I’m walking on but it is quite hard to go on when I cannot communicate and participate with the people around me just because I do not have the resources to learn their language.
assalamu alaikum, I can understand your frustration. i hope this is of some help, but here is a video series on youtube of how to learn urdu (the alphabet is pretty similar to arabic and the language is actually derived from arabic so i hope it won't be too difficult to learn). it's a series so you can hopefully get through each episode in your own time Insha’Allah ♡
i pray you're able to find a sense of community again, i can understand how you feel. are you still in contact with some friends/family from your home town? if you are, maybe video call / call / text them so you can still feel that sense of community virtually perhaps?
alhamdulillah, i'm proud of you that you don't want to abandon this road, despite it being hard. keep your sabr, you're doing well! may Allah make it easy for you and i hope the videos can be beneficial. if not, try and search for some other videos that may be of some use. dm me if u want to talk more ab this!

Zodiac sign: I'm almost violently a Scorpio, so much so that I'm a Scorpio by both western and Hindu systems
Hobbies: Yeah I don't think this post is enough to cover all of them, but I'll give you the main ones. I read, a lot. Mostly fiction and fantasy genres. I play tennis and football (I'm a goalie!). I paint on good days, and sketch when I'm angry (charcoal is a lovely way to take out your frustrations. I have a sort of obsessive desire to learn all the scripts in the world, even if i don't speak the languages, so I ended up learning the Cyrillic script, the script in which Urdu is written (I forgot what it's called) even Egyptian heiroglyphs. I have a looot of ADHD, so i just jump around from one hyperfixation to another and go wherever the dopamine takes me.
Favourite colour: Ultramarine blue. That shade is the single most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Oh and black.
Favourite book: God I can't pick a favourite book, there's far too many. But i can tell you my favourite author, it's Khaled Hosseini. All of his books made me feel something so deep inside i was moved for days.
Last song I listened to: It was actually 'Muchachos' for the Argentine national football team 😂. That song is a banger
Last movie I watched: 'Silence of the lambs' Usually i love that genre, but that movie disturbed me a little.
Something that helps people: It's actually based on a quote from Alice in Wonderland which says 'I am no under obligation to make sense to you.' It was one of the most profound quotes I have ever experienced. You shouldn't be changing who you are, or the things you like for someone else. Take it from someone who spent all of her childhood masking her neurodivergence to appear normal, it will blow up on your face eventually. And it won't be pretty. Just be yourself and fuck everyone's opinion.
Meaning behind my url: I think it's pretty self explanatory. It's not meant to mock anyone or anything like that, it's just that i grew up in Mumbai where everyone's mother tongue is a different language and I naturally picked up a lot of them growing up to the point where even i don't know how many languages I know

Daily Horoscope in Urdu
In the realm of astrology, horoscopes offer a fascinating glimpse into the future based on celestial movements. This comprehensive guide delves into daily horoscopes in Urdu, exploring their creation, significance, and how they differ from other forms of divination. Whether you are a skeptic or a believer, this article aims to provide an in-depth understanding of what daily horoscopes entail and their relevance in today’s world.
Introduction to Daily Horoscopes in Urdu
Daily horoscopes in Urdu are forecasts that offer insights into various aspects of life based on the positions of celestial bodies at the time of one’s birth. These predictions encompass areas such as love, career, and health, and are intended to provide guidance for the day ahead.
The Role of Astrology
Astrology is the study of celestial bodies' positions and their influence on human affairs. Each person’s horoscope is a map of the positions of the stars and planets at the time of their birth. This map, or chart, is used to make predictions about the individual's future.
Horoscopes are not a new concept. They have been part of human culture for thousands of years, with roots in ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. Over time, astrology has evolved, and different cultures have developed their own methods and interpretations.
How Daily Horoscopes are Created
Daily horoscopes are crafted by astrologers who analyze the positions of celestial bodies and their aspects. The process involves several steps:
Astrological Chart Preparation: Astrologers prepare a natal chart based on the date, time, and place of birth. This chart provides a snapshot of the positions of the planets and stars at that specific moment.
Transit Analysis: Astrologers study the current positions of planets (transits) and their aspects in relation to the natal chart. These transits are believed to influence various aspects of life, providing the basis for daily predictions.
Interpretation: Using astrological techniques and their understanding of planetary influences, astrologers interpret how these celestial movements might affect individuals' lives on a given day.
Publication: The final predictions are then published in various formats, including newspapers, magazines, and online platforms.
The Importance of Horoscopes
Horoscopes offer a daily dose of insight into how the cosmic energies might influence one's day. They can serve various purposes:
Guidance and Reflection: Horoscopes provide guidance on potential challenges and opportunities. They encourage self-reflection and help individuals navigate their daily lives with greater awareness.
Entertainment: Many people read horoscopes for fun, treating them as a light-hearted way to engage with astrology.
Personal Growth: For some, horoscopes are a tool for personal growth and self-improvement, helping them to better understand themselves and their relationships with others.
Daily Horoscope in Urdu: How to Read It
To read a daily horoscope in Urdu, follow these steps:
Identify Your Zodiac Sign: Your zodiac sign is determined by the position of the sun at the time of your birth. There are twelve zodiac signs, each associated with specific dates and characteristics.
Find Your Horoscope: Look for the daily horoscope for your zodiac sign. These are available in newspapers, magazines, and online platforms that publish horoscopes in Urdu.
Read and Reflect: Review the predictions for your sign. Reflect on how they might relate to your current situation or future plans.
Consider the Broader Context: Remember that horoscopes are general and might not apply to everyone. Use them as a tool for reflection rather than a definitive guide.
Can Daily Horoscopes Be Trusted?
The accuracy of daily horoscopes is a subject of debate. While some people find them insightful and helpful, others view them with skepticism. It’s essential to approach horoscopes with an open mind and understand their limitations:
Predictive Nature: Horoscopes offer predictions based on celestial positions but do not account for personal experiences and choices.
Lack of Scientific Validation: Astrology is not a science and lacks empirical evidence. Therefore, horoscopes should not replace professional advice or decision-making.
Personal Interpretation: The effectiveness of a horoscope can vary from person to person. It is up to the individual to interpret how, or if, the predictions resonate with their lives.
Alternatives to Daily Horoscopes
For those who seek alternative forms of divination, several methods exist:
Tarot Reading: Tarot cards offer insights into a person’s life through symbolic imagery and intuitive interpretation.
Numerology: This method analyzes the significance of numbers associated with an individual’s life to offer predictions and guidance.
Psychic Readings: Psychics use various techniques to offer insights and predictions about an individual's future.
Astrology Software: Modern technology provides advanced astrology software that can generate detailed charts and predictions based on precise astronomical data.
The Future of Daily Horoscopes
With advancements in technology, the future of daily horoscopes is likely to involve more sophisticated tools and methods. Astrology software and online platforms are becoming increasingly accessible, allowing individuals to explore their horoscopes in greater detail.
In conclusion, daily horoscopes in Urdu provide a window into the cosmic influences that might affect one's life. While they offer valuable insights and entertainment, it's crucial to approach them with a balanced perspective and use them as one of many tools for personal reflection and guidance.
Conclusion
Daily horoscopes are a popular and intriguing aspect of astrology that offer glimpses into potential future influences. By understanding how they are created and interpreted, readers can better appreciate their role in personal guidance and entertainment. Whether one views horoscopes as a tool for self-discovery or simply as a daily ritual, they remain a significant part of the cultural landscape.

life update?
Well... life feels like I'm on rollercoater that's on fire and is heading towards a pit of needles and I'm just.... vibing because I'd never scream or cry in public cause "embarrassing". I mean, exam season is approaching, my brother is getting married in that season and I have to participate actively in wedding activities and keep everyone entertained because its not like I have spare siblings that I can do this for...
And then talking about the actual exam season is also stressful because I'm someone who locks herself away for 4-6 months to study and become a hermit but now I can't do that because guests from all over the world will be staying over and my parents are old and don't have it in them to be running around all day serving guests, even domestic help goes so far.
Hmm what else.... I mean I'm crying over everything these days. The current state of the world? Yes. Palestine? Yes. The world is ending? Yes. Am I gonna end up in hell? Tears. Reading my urdu novel that is soooo well written and I 1000% don't relate to the female mc's struggles? Even more tears. I'm even crying when I thunk about the time I cried over something💀💀💀 (this all very new to me because I've never been so emotional over anything)
Oh and I found out I am not eligible to donate blood because my hemoglobin is in the single digits (so like I know why I couldn't see anything for a minute straight whenever I stood up💀💀)
I have a crush, he's smart and handsome(but like why does he as a man need LONGER LASHES AND CLEARER SKIN THAN ME???HES MAKING ME WANNA START A SKINCARE ROUTINE) But the thing that is the most appealing about him is the way he talks😭 like it just makes u swoon. Idk how to describe it, but like he has a deep voice but not too deep, just the perfect balance between mature adult and charismatic golden boy. And it's not just the way he talks with me or his friends, BUT THE WAY HE TALKS WITH HIS PATIENTS🤌✨️ like I'm here befriending 70 year old women before filling their cavities and he's all "Yes, ma'am/sir. Of course, it'll be done as you want." Like he's so professional even at the end of the day when everyone's just tired from doing their umpteenth patient and start slacking off in the whole "VVIP treatment of all patients". I'm just praying to Allah to make us soulmates (if we're meant to be), I have left this matter in God's hands because He's never disappointed me before and I can't afford to be distracted rn (I borrowed a book from my crush for some notes and was comparing how we even highlighted the same stuff.... we are sooo compatible.... this is so delulu of me omg never thinking about him again- unless he approaches me first)
I feel like having a crush is good because look at me rn- I have started a skincare routine, I am actually studying hard so that if he ever asks me a question, he knows that I'm not a dumbass. And if I had the time to go to the gym, I would, instead I'm doing counting calories and skipping unnecessary meals! What do I have to lose in all of this if he rejects me? Nothing. I end up with clear skin, hot body, and smart af brain.
Like he has a lot more on the line as a crush because he's one, ONE ick away from making me lose complete interest in him. See? This is a win-win for me.

thank u for answering my ask! You're so right about what u said, it's weird that Violet is just white Laia and Elias without the social commentary on colonialism.....also correct me if i'm wrong but Laia was literally nonmagical. That was one of the things that stood out to me and made her an outlier. But Violet gets lightning powers? I'm confused cause this would have been an opportunity to, y'know, give a female mc the power to wield shadows....but noooo she has to have light, darkness is clearly a boys only thing (sarcasm). Also why was the training at the appropriated gaelic college, just Elias's trials but without any suspense 💀 Elias at least trained to be emperor but Violet just goes through her first year?? And fourth wing's already getting a show???? Sabaa Tahir I am so sorry I hope u get an ember in the ashes adaptation
(if I remember right, Laia got some invisibility powers around the third book)
I HATE HATE HATE THE TROPE WHEN MALE CHARACTERS GET SHADOW POWERS. Like why is that so popular in books 😭😭. Every single popular fantasy book has to have a mc with shadow powers or compare him to shadows like stop they can be evil and messed up and still have light magic.
I swear I'll write a book one day solely to subvert this trope.
Also I remember telling my friend (the same one who told me the plot of the second book after I refused to read it) exactly that the trials at the college were literally Elias's but everyone was participating.
Like we all know Violet's going to pass because there are like 3 more unreleased books
And if I can say anything with 100% certainty, it's going to be this: Rebecca Yarros is going to milk this franchise for all it's worth, like spinoffs, special editions, extra content, games the whole list.
Fourth Wing's wild popularity does explain why she is getting the show.
I just wish people gave An Ember in the Ashes the same regard.
Another thing: I like that Sabaa Tahir used a culture that she was familiar with to draw from to her story because it feels so well explained and researched. Like most of the time the words she uses are from Urdu or Hindi
In Fourth Wing it often feels like the author forgets that she is taking inspiration for her names from Scottish Gaelic.
#i hate the shadow powers trope like i swear i will write an essay on it someday#i say that about everything and never write the essay#i have an entire list of things im supposed to write essays about#and haven't gotten to any of them lol#Sabaa's use of urdu and hindi words is so personal to me#an ember in the ashes#fourth wing#thanks for the ask!
