Been thinking about Quincey Harker post WW1, but my entire experience of 1920's England has been basically Agatha Christie and Wodehouse books, and while one would think Dracula ties better into crime fiction flavor I have to say I'm become rather fond of the thought of Quincey getting pulled into Bertie Wooster's unique brand of shenanigary. His incredible climbing skills should prove most helpful 😅
Which of course brings up a vital question:
Just what would his 1920's ridiculous Wodehousian nickname be?

So
Since I've gotten some questions about it, I was wondering if you guys would like to see some more kdrama works? I've done stuff for things like True Beauty and Penthouse: War in Life but with my lack of knowledge for Korean customs/traditions/etiquette combined with not knowing if you guys would be more interested in kdrama works has me not doing much stuff for it. So I'm doing an interest check for that and....
I've been wondering how receptive y'all would be to fics with period shows/films about real people (Reign, The Spanish Princess, Medici, The Tudors, etc). I know I've already dabbled in this with Bridgerton, The Last Kingdom, and Vikings: Valhalla but those shows really just take loose facts from the real people and are very dramatized. I don't know how you guys would react to reading about an english prince vs a viking warrior not many may have heard about lmao.
So that brings me to the poll...

a scene from Start Of The Breakdown, the first part of You should've raised a baby girl, I should've been a better son:
The day consists of going in and out of classes, trying to memorise what the teachers say and only writing down the most important parts, trying to memorise and make sure that he doesn’t mix up his letters, trying to memorise and make sure his handwriting is legible.
He doesn’t eat lunch, not wanting to see Tommy and Carol. He fills up on water in a bathroom and doesn’t think about the soft-looking hair of the freshman washing his hands next to him.
His own hair has a side part that he only sees when his parents are home and he has to hide the Farrah Fawcett hairspray. It looks wrong, and he gets so caught up staring in the mirror that he doesn’t notice the freshman being replaced by a senior until a flash of rings in the corner of his eye startles him.
Steve leaves the bathroom, hoping it looks natural and not like he’s running away.
the same scene from Thrill Of It All, a companion piece from Eddie's pov:
Eddie Munson has always been aware of Steve Harrington, since before high school even though he’s loathe to admit it. There’s just something about the Harrington heir that draws his eyes, which is why when Gareth had come back to their lunch table commenting about Harrington being weird in the bathroom, Eddie had gone to investigate.
Weird was certainly one way to put it.
Eddie sidles up next to Harrington by the sinks, turning on the tap so that he can use washing his hands as an excuse for being there. Harrington doesn’t react, his reflection apparently holding the answers to all of Earth’s questions. It’s strange because Eddie has focused his high school years on being loud, putting a target on himself that makes him hard to ignore. Harrington is only a grade under him, so he has to be aware of who Eddie is, and he won’t take being ignored by some rich kid experiencing an existential crisis.
So Eddie talks.
“You take something, Harrington?” he asks, because he knows drugs, and he knows that Harrington hasn’t. Provoking is always a safe bet. “Hope not, since you haven’t been buying from me. I wouldn’t trust any other dealer, even your friend Tommy H. knows to only buy from me. Don’t tell him, but I overcharge him since he’s such an asshole. I would probably overcharge you too, so maybe it’s for the best that you’re not buying from me….”
He trails off at the lack of a reaction.
There’s only so long that you can realistically wash your hands, so Eddie turns the tap off and tries to shake the water off his hands just to get some of the awkward energy out.
“I would overcharge you because I think you’re an asshole-” he starts to explain, thinking that maybe the insult wasn’t blunt enough to provoke, but then Harrington startles and the next thing Eddie knows, he’s alone.
He doesn’t think Harrington heard a word he said, which makes the whole thing so much stranger.
And Eddie likes strange. Likes weird. Is downright fascinated by it.
So he decides to watch.

a couple weeks ago in class we were discussing ethinic and racial identities and its representation in media and while yes many forms of media are slowly becoming inclusive of various ethnicities and racial identities, especially when it comes to films and shows, it still isn't enough. while we can all appreciate the inclusion of actors and artists from racially and ethinically diverse backgrounds, there's no genuine reasoning behind it. meaning, these actors and artists are hired to fit a certain criteria (i can't find the link, but i remember seeing how basically many award shows had a checklist of actor backgrounds that needed to met in order to get nominated, including things like "at least one supporting cast from a racial minority", "at least one supporting cast who is queer") and that's where my problem is. yes, hiring racially and ethinically diverse actors does a lot for the community, but when you whitewash the characters they're hired to play, it completely takes away from their identity. what i'm trying to say is, if you're hiring a poc actor, hire their identity too, give their characters more depth and background. one example that comes to my mind is the second season of bridgerton where the protagonist is an indian character but her whole identity is anglicised and if it weren't for the colour of her skin, you'd completely forget that she was indian. moreover, the history and culture of it. indian lifestyle, family structure is vastly different to that of a british one and especially when you take into consideration the era they set the show in, it was when india was still colonised by britain. and that's why while i applaud the inclusivity and the opportunity for the actors, however i wish there was more inclusivity and effort put into the accuracy of a character rather than using their character's identity as a point to get a shot at winning an award and completely forgetting how the characters identity would affect the plot.

In other news after sitting on some very wild ideas I might actually produce that essay about tax fraud.
#it’s that or the second half of the sheep essay#which has a complete and total thought but! I have still not named the sheep#like I think I can finally articulate the chain of events that lead to Special Dyrwodian Sheep from an Ixmitl crossbreed#but uh that’s what they’re called which is…… Bad#in any case it’s actually all about intercontinental trade before Readceras was established#or more accurately we’re splitting the difference between sources and saying ‘when Readceras was the size of a pea’#because there are still two separate established dates for Readceras first being established as a colony and they’re….#well they’re a couple centuries apart and have very different implications re: international relations#but yeah to go back to my point a lot of…. mm large scale tax fraud#census level stuff not like paying your share in fake coin or bad grains#must look pretty different than in real life#because ‘prentending your whole town is insane/illiterate/etc’ has very different implications if the logical conclusion for the government#is ‘unauthorized animancy has killed everyone and now they’re undead’#like we watch the government pretend heritage hill is just fine in the game#while they also put a lot of time and effort into trying to figure out what happened/kill all the newly dead people#while said newly dead people are a solid chunk of the existing nobility#yes I do have elaborate thoughts about how that succession crisis worked out in the period between the end of the game and deadfire#…..that’s it’s own thing though that’s not tax fraud

At this point I would’ve preferred them keeping the damsel in distress plot point for Annette. Because. Wdym she was a slave and is now a metalbender. Who the hell are you talking about.
