i forgot how good it feels to have a big indulgent meal. i made a vegan bolognese sauce with tomatoes, onions, carrots, garlic, and spinach and blended it with spices, added a splash of vegan heavy cream and balsamic vinegar, and sauteed beyond ground beef with salt and pepper and garlic powder and added it to the sauce. first had it with pasta, then a few hours later i defrosted some pizza dough and made a pizza with garlic butter on the crust, my sauce, vegan cheese, and crunchy garlic chili oil from trader joes drizzled on top. had a third of the whole sheet pan pizza. my body is so happy with me rn she loves it when i take care of her

hello! it's fungi anon thinking about soup rn so what's your opinion on soups/stews/various other types of liquidy stuff like minestrone and broth

Hello fungi anon <3 I hope your day is going well!

Okay so like with basically everything in life I have many opinions about soups and stews etc. In general, massive fan of both, so I'll break it down to the kinds I can think of. Here is an incomplete rating:

Soups - okay there are so many soups my apologies

Chicken noodle soup - good. Wholesome. 7/10.

Chicken/turkey rice soup - absolutely astounding. Takes chicken noodle soup to another level because rice doesn't get as soggy as noodles do. 9/10.

Potato soup - the easiest, most filling soup ever. All you need is like onions and potatoes and some broth. Made even better with bacon and cheese and chives. 10/10, 13/10 if you have toppings.

Minestrone - meh. It's alright. A bit too sharp for my soup preferences. I'll eat it if it's given to me, but I would never buy it or make it on my own. 4/10.

Taco soup - this is a soup my mum made that's like chili but with taco seasoning. Brilliant. Put some lil tortilla chips on there and it's so good. 8/10.

Broccoli soup - with/without cheese, both ways is delightful. Super easy to make. Annoying to make nonetheless because broccoli is the glitter of food and gets everywhere when you cut it. 7/10 because I hate cutting up broccoli.

Pea soup - my father eats this and it looks and smells terrible. -500/10, please stay out of my house.

Mushroom soup - I don't like eating mushrooms because of texture reasons. I don't mind canned mushroom soup, but if there are real whole mushrooms in it I don't want it. 2/10.

Tomato soup - best boy. Preference is to eat with crackers or grilled cheese. Tastes like childhood lunches. 7/10.

Butternut squash soup (or pumpkin soups etc) - oh my god so so good. Perfect fall soup. Can be sweet or spicy or whatever. 12/10.

Broth by itself - so helpful for cooking, but also I would never eat plain broth. 8/10 because it's a god in the kitchen.

Stews and Chilis etc

Chili - huge fan. I have yet to meet a chili I didn't like, unless it was literally too spicy for me to eat. So easy to make, super filling, best if eaten with sour cream and fritos on top. 9/10.

Beef stew - ngl I almost never eat it, but it's alright? It's good? I like it when I have it? But also sometimes the beef gets stuck in my teeth so. 5/10.

Chicken stew - fantastic. Like a chicken pot pie in soup form. Love it. Best with dumplings. 11/10.

Clam chowder/any fish based stews or soups - hard pass. I don't like fish. -5/10, rating isn't lower because it looks very tasty even though I know it wouldn't be.

FAV SOUP EVER (gets its own category because I love it):

Ghanaian groundnut soup, eaten with rice balls as a swallow - absolutely fucking brilliant. Spicy and peanut-y and also has chicken or whatever. Peanut stews that mimic this are also brilliant. 1000/10

Yes!!! I’m gonna try and put this under a cut since it might get a little long, but I’m on mobile rn so who knows if it’ll work.

Ingredients

One small butternut squash

5-6 cloves of garlic

Olive oil

Rigatoni pasta

Asiago cheese

The following seasonings: Rosemary, sage, basil, thyme, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, chili powder, ground mustard, and onion powder

You’ll need to cube the butternut squash and put on a baking tray. Drizzle in olive oil and cover in all seasonings EXCEPT the rosemary and sage. Season to your heart’s content (I’m a horrible cook in the sense that I season with my eyes and heart, rather than actual measurements - use your best judgement!)

Put the garlic cloves, rosemary, and sage on some tinfoil and drizzle in olive oil. Sprinkle some salt on and wrap the tin foil to help try and keep from burning.

Bake the squash and wrapped garlic for 35 minutes @ 400 degrees F

While that’s cooking, make your pasta. Save 1.5 cups of the pasta water.

When the squash and garlic are done, put it all in a blender (minus any stems from the rosemary or sage if you used whole leaf) along with the pasta water. Grate in some of the Asiago cheese. Blend until smooth

Pour sauce into the pasta and mix.

Top with some more Asiago cheese and enjoy ❤️

The next time I make this, I will be adding in cubed chicken. I’d probably just use a lot of the same seasonings I used on the squash for that plus a little apple cider vinegar for a little acidity. 10/10 would also recommend making some garlic bread to go along with it

bruins-bolts. i shoulda put less oil and more chili on these thangs. anyway when it all comes down to it normally these guys are pretty much the exact same team: middling 5v5 play, excellent finishers, VERY strong power play. on paper boston has better goaltending but also the bolts have Vasi and its the yoffs so im not too worried about that. pastrnak v kucherov is obviously a fantastic marquee matchup. however we fail to mention my crucial aspect that makes a playoff series Interesting: Penchant For Drama. both of these teams are top tier in that regard, esp the bolts. they can Turn It On At Will which i adore and find enthralling engaging and . sexy. i say bolts in 6

stars-kings. not much going on here narratively other than la having 0 series wins in like for evar but frankly im here for the hockey not the narratives sometimes we are here to talk PUCK which means we gotta say: both of these teams are really good. la pk has a few struggles, dallas needs a couple more saves (although this might be leftover from wedgewood getting overworked when otter was out), but they're both clean, strong defensively and offensively, not super top heavy, good 5v5 and special teams. just some quality puck. dallas in 6

Carne picada tacos

I make tacos a lot because they’re pretty quick and I almost always have tortillas and most of what I need anyway.

Tools

Skillet

Something to move the meat with that won’t scratch your skillet

A chef’s knife or whatever knife

A cutting board

A small spoon (maybe)

Ingredients

*A note. So carne picada means ground beef but what I’m talking about is a sort of shredded beef. It’s got a bit more substance to it than ground meat, but it’s much more tender and easier to cook than skirt steak, which is what’s traditionally used for steak fajitas.

However much carne picada you want to make (generally comes in a 1 or 2lb pack for like $7 I think. You’ll find it near the skirt steak and stir fry meat.)

An oil with a high smoke point (avocado, peanut, for example)

An onion (generally white or yellow is best)

A can of tomato paste OR a can of tomato sauce (I just get what’s on sale usually but both work.)

A bell pepper if you want

Tortillas

Taco fixings (sour cream, shredded cheese, taco sauce, etc just whatever you like on tacos)

Basic spices mostly but you will need Cumin and chili powder

Directions

Slice off the flower end of the onion (not the brown kinda gross looking end)

Take off the papery skin of the onion and then if the outer layer doesn’t look fresh, take it off

Cut the onion in half from root tip to flower tip

Cut thick half-rings from the onion

Turn the stove medium high and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan

Once the oil is shimmering, throw the onions in. You can slice and add the bell pepper rn too

Let those cook while you season the meat, but stir every so often to stop the onions from burning

I generally just dump the meat in a bowl and throw in my spices. My best advice is to smell your spices so you know exactly what you’re putting in there, do what you think is right, mix it up, and take a smell. Cumin should be one of the main scents and flavors because that’s just how Mexican cooking is

If it doesn’t smell like tacos, adjust! Add more cumin and chili powder! But watch out because cumin has a very potent smell and taste and can be overpowering if you’re too heavy handed

Once you think you have it seasoned, turn the heat up in the skillet and toss it in

It’s okay if there’s a lot of steam and sizzling and popping! Don’t move the meat too much because you want it to sear

Cook UNCOVERED. If you cook your meat covered, the top of the meat will be cooked by the steam, not the direct heat of the pan when you flip it and we want a good sear on this because flavor

Once you’ve flipped everything and stuff is starting to turn a nice darker brown (not burnt just more crispy) you can take your tomato paste and throw in a couple spoonfuls, enough to be able to stir into the meat, but you don’t want it to be really wet

If you’re using tomato sauce just pour in I’d say maybe like a quarter cup of sauce. I don’t measure 😭

It’s going to seem like you fucked it up! You didn’t! Every time I make these I’m convinced it’s too wet or I put too much

Leave it alone

Wash the meat bowl or something idk but let everything cook

Stir it occasionally and once there’s not loose tomato sauce (it should all mostly be absorbed into the meat) take it off the heat

I’m used to cooking tortillas by just putting them on an open flame gas stove and then flipping it with my fingers

I understand if that’s not what you want to do. I’d suggest you didn’t. It hurts but 🤷🏽‍♂️ that’s how I grew up

Get a skillet or a griddle and put it on medium heat, then lay the tortillas in it for a bit on each side. You want it to get a little more crisp and browned. I use flour tortillas so I can’t tell you what to do with corn or how to know if it’s done bc I don’t like them

From since I was young, the message I got from music, books etc is that it’s pretty bad to say “I love you” unless you truly mean it. So I don’t say “I love you” until I’m 100% sure I can do that it good conscience. It seems that it takes me a bit longer to be sure than most people, but it’s not like I’ve conducted statistics on this

I’m an antiprohibitionist and don’t think there’s anything morally wrong with taking recreational substances. Conversely, I’m not interested in that sort of thing as a full-on lifestyle either. 

I try to keep an open mind and try everything once but im probably not gonna reorganize my life around new age woo-woo. 

So far my folks have liked most my partners, but if our social circles don’t get along I’m comfortable with leaving them separate. 

I believe in judging people as individuals first. I don’t wanna hear no paranoid shit about “the muslims” or other stereotypical carricatures but if you’re gonna be “europeans that europeans this” as if im not in the room its not gonna work.

Barring unforseen dictatorships, I don’t want to move out of Europe. I like it here. Its full of frustrating dumbasses but so is the rest of the world.  Yay for cheese and consumer protection laws! I would consider moving closer to the shore though.

I haven’t spoken to my father in five years. No, you’re not going to patch this up. You don’t have to ignore him too if you’re not comfortable but you’ll have to respect my choice instead of playing family therapist or throwing platitudes about forgiveness at me. 

Im not counting and it depends on your definition but Ive fucked at least 15-20 people, which according to statistics is above average? Always used rubber unless it was long-term and exclusive tho. That might bother some ppl. 

That said it has been my conclusion that fucking does nothing that a beer can’t do and that the real quality stuff is what you could already do as a grade schooler when you still thought of all the grownup stuff as mystical. Having ice cream together, exploring new places, having contemplative conversations in the rain, telling each other your fantasies? That’s The Stuff. 

Hence while I wouldn’t turn down some fuckage along the way what im looking for at this point is someone to share life and grow old with, like there doesn’t need to be the expectation of further strings but the end goal RN is to find One That Sparks Joy(TM) that will get precedence

I’m not big on material gifts or the ritual part of dating if thats important to you I might not be the ideal candidate, but if its not thats probably good for your wallet

I’m a strong introvert. Sometimes I go weeks without talking to anyone other than my boss or maybe texting my relatives. If you’re very introverted or work alot this might be an advantage. Of course if I love you I will try my best to match up to your attention needs but if you need your partner to text you 15 times every day to feel good I might just not be your cup of tea

That doesn’t mean im not interested in going on or doing new experiences. I very much hope to do that together with you just not 5 days a week - if you can’t give new things wholehearted tries things might get uncomfortable

I like spicy food and all sort of asian cousine, but if you can’t stand the sight of cheese, asparagus and sausage it’s not gonna work either. I can obviously put less chili in your portion.

Indifferent about monogamy, but I wouldn’t say that I’m the sort of person who needs non-monogamy either.  If you want to we can do it (write me out some list of where you draw the lines so there’s no misunderstandings) but if you don’t it’s no biggie. I don’t care if you fuck 10 other people - for me, respect, honor and loyalty are to do with other things, like, don’t make fun of me and don’t expect me to change because one (1) person said I’m weird or whatever.

Potential character flaws: I can be a tad sensitive, disorganized and defensive sometimes, not gonna sugarcoat it. I have no filter and curse like a sailor. Also I have zero social skills and sometimes I come across as either angry or unemotional when its really the opposite. I find that just as confusing and contradictory as that sounds, I have like zero sense of how I come off. I try to be aware of all of these and do right to everyone to the best of my ability but if you’re sensitive about any of these point someone else might be a better fit 

2 kids max. I’m not sure I’ll have ANY at this point, and most certainly not in the next 5 years. IF we decide to have some later I volunteer to carry them though, I probably have good genes, my mom popped out 4 babies in 6 years with nary a complication. Besides I’d rather it was me dealing with the gross pregnancy stuff than someone I love

My favorite bedroom stuff is fingers-in-front-cavity and butt stuff. Mild sleepsex fetish but nothing super pronounced. What I don’t like or just am not very good at is top/bottom play. 

So far most my partners have had somewhat stronger sex drive than me but Id argue that I very much have one and ive never refused unless I was in physical pain, severely sleep-deprived or working on some important work-related thing that was due the next day. 

It’s important - and science backs me up on this - that you can freely talk to each other in n open, natural and relaxed manner

If you think im weird just do us both the favor and stay away don’t come at me with the attitude that you’re gonna mold me to your desires - even just writing this comes off kinda touchy but im saying this because some people out there really don’t get it. Like my natural tendency is to be open, courious and realistic,  but some people see that as free real estate and then it falls to me to be the reasonable one and End The Madness and im tired of that.

6. What are you excited for?

In September I may be going to a con with my girlfriend and some of her friends and I'm both anxious and excited about it, I wanna see her again...

No, on top of the fact that I would probably look bad in them but I just don't really find jeans that comfortable. The only pairs I have are some Lee's that don't even look like jeans, just durable slacks.

Probably during the week+ that I was stuck at home with Covid. Not only was my brain totally fucked from being locked at home and knowing I was sick but my manager had a lot of difficulty believing me and made me come back while still positive, that shit was so stressful and I was so worried about infecting my more vulnerable coworkers that I just kinda cracked.

I don't think everyone does, but most people do. People have a lot more capacity to change than I think dense Tumblr people think, but there are some crimes that can't really be forgiven imo.

I used to, the thing about slippers really is that although I think there is a merit to having house shoes of some form they're too warm for 90% of the year in Florida so I've kinda abandoned the premise.

I haven't had my favorite, chili cheese fritos, in years, or classic cheetos in about the same time, so I don't know if I can really say. However, one interesting thing you may wanna try that I discovered recently on the cheetos front is that they sell these butter-flavored puffs that are very similar in taste and texture to popcorn. They're a very interesting experience to try.

I don't even really remember if I've participated in one? I feel like if I had won one I would remember lol

78. Who would you like to see in a concert?

I wanna see Exociety again, the vibe at the show I went to was incredible and I was so happy that they not only encouraged but were actively excited to see me filming with my tape camera. Very cool night in general, everyone was super excited.

Probably? But I imagine it would be uncomfortable.

makes: 4-6 servings

ingredients:

1 can whole kernel sweet corn (drained)

1 can cream style corn

1 box vegetarian corn muffin mix

8 oz sour cream

1 stick melted butter

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

garlic powder, onion powder, salt & pepper to taste

how to:

preheat oven to 350. put all ingredients in a casserole dish and mix evenly. bake for 45 minutes, top with more cheddar cheese, and bake for an additional 10 minutes. enjoy!

what i love:

this is such a warm and cozy dish. it’s my favorite at thanksgiving, but it’s especially nice rn when it’s all rainy and icy outside. add a nice salad or taco chili to it, and you’re all set to get snowed in!
