Ninternia: The Ultimate Elemental

Chapter 2: One Fateful Night

"How are you not cold?" Jaya asked her brother, shivering in a light weight black gi. Khan glanced over at her. He was wearing an identical outfit, but was barely bothered by the cold mountain air.

"Can I help it if I'm hot?" he asked grinning. Jaya groaned. His sister shared his light tan skin, full lips, and perfect teeth, but the similarities ended there. While Jaya had eyes as deep as the sea, Khan's were a warm hazel. Her hair was long and black, and was usually kept in a messy bun. His hair was a luscious, shining brown, styled into a perfect, spiky do. With an age difference of three years, Khan was notably taller than his sister. The biggest difference between the siblings wasn't in their natural looks though. While Jaya preferred function over fashion, her brother looked good, and he was well aware of it.

Choosing to change the subject rather than argue with him, Jaya asked, "What do you think Sensei Ju has planned?"

"Not sure," Khan replied, "Didn't he say something about a test?"

"Yeah, to see if we're ready for the next level."

Their conversation died out after that as Jaya began doing light exercises to warm up, and Khan started scrolling through social media on his phone. Ever since Sensei Ju had found them about a month ago, revealing that he'd trained their parents, and offering to teach them in the way of the ninja, Khan had taken to making regular posts about his training on his PostAPic, or PaP as its users called it , account and to his surprise, he'd gained a decent amount of followers.

Taking a selfie, using the moonlit temple and starry sky as his background, he posted it with the caption "Mysterious test tonight. Any guesses on what?" Before anyone could comment, someone kicked his arm, hard.

"Oof, my phone..." Khan groaned as it flew out of his hand. At the same time, he fell into a defensive stance and faced his attacker. They were much taller than him, and wore an all black gi identical to his, down to the hood that was obscuring their face and Khan didn't like to wear because of what it did to his hair. Khan decided to call him Ninja 1. Off to his left, another one was trading blows with Jaya. Aside from being shorter than the first, and having blue eyes rather than grey, plus lighter skin they were identical. Okay, fine, they weren't identical, but they were wearing the same outfit. Khan named the new one Ninja 2. Dodging under a roundhouse kick from Ninja 1, Khan countered with a punch to the gut, and a quick footsweep, knocking them down. Following them to the ground, Khan put them into a pin, and would've choked Ninja 1 out if something hitting the ground hadn't startled him from behind. As it was, Ninja 1 used his distraction to throw him off. Khan rolled to his feet next to Jaya. Glancing at the newcomer, Khan noted same black gi, and... metallic skin?

Is he wearing a mask or something?

"Another one?" Ninja 2 groaned.

At this point, the five of them were standing in a circle facing each other, waiting to see who would make the first move. Khan thought that the tension was thick enough to touch. Before anyone could attack, the Temple doors slammed open, startling all of them.

"What in my father's name is going out here!?" an old man yelled angrily as he stepped out into the moonlit courtyard. His golden eyes were slanted, with crinkles at the corner showing he smiled a lot, though he certainly wasn't now. Under his wide brimmed hat, was bald head, but his long white beard. more than made up for it. He wore a traditional white gi, with a stylized lotus on the back, and smaller one over his heart, as well as a simple black belt around his waist. To complete his "old, stern sensei" look, he " and carried a wore sandals, bamboo staff. All this, accompanied by an ever present teapot, made up their dear old Sensei Ju.

"Um... I found these guys sneaking into the Temple Sensei," Ninja 3, the metallic one, said.

"I was sneaking in? You were the ones doing all the sneaking!" Ninja 1 replied.

"You're both wrong! My sister and I were just waiting here when you three attacked us!!!" Khan shouted back.

"What did you mean by 'in my father's name'?" Jaya asked, and got all the others staring at her for the sudden subject change. Meanwhile, Sensei Ju looked to the sky as if asking for help before he started speaking.

"You all grew up on stories of the Elemental Guardians, the fabled protectors of Ninternia, yet what you did not know is that you are all descendants of these legendary heroes. That is why I sought you out," he said the paused to see how they'd take the news.

"You mean... I HAVE ELEMENTAL POWERS!?!" Ninja 2 said, throwing off his hood to reveal a flushed, sweaty face, adorned toy a pair of wide sky blue eyes, a small, upturned nose, a spray of freckles, and an astonished grin. By a mop of messy, reddish-brown hair "OH-MY-GOSH!! WHICH-DO-I-HAVE!? I COULD-" he proceeded in listing number of past Guardians, along with whatever feat they accomplished.

Khan chose to tune him out, and focus on what the others were sayin

"-trained my mom. Are you telling me she a Guardian?" Ninja 1, who had taken his hood too, showing messy black hair plastered to his wet brown skin with sweat, thick eye brows, and cheek bones, said in a distressed voice.

"Yes, in fact, Iris was one of my best students," Sensei Ju said, "Now, Ren if you'll stop, I'll tell the rest of why I gathered you here."

"Yes Sensei," Ninja-er, Ren said sheepishly as he kneeled. The others followed his example as Ju began to speak.

"It has long been my duty to find and train each new generation of Guardians, teaching them how to unlock and use their powers. Every single Guardian has been trained here, at the Temple of Elements. Jaya, earlier, you asked why I said in the name of my father. Now, I give you the answer." He pulled a necklace with the white half of a yin-yang symbol out of his collar, and held it out to them.

"I am the younger son of The First Elemental, creator of Ninternia. My father created my brother and I out of his own blood, poured from a wound he inflicted upon himself. We were supposed to protect the balance after he passed but... it was not to be. The sword my father cut himself with, the Blade of Elements, became imbued with his power after touching his blood. My brother and I were supposed to protect it until my father's true heir could claim it, but my brother... he became convinced that we should use the Blade to change Ninternia for the better. Despite the fact that we could only use the Blade safely together, when I refused, he stole it"

"I found it right outside the Temple gate a week later. What he did with it, or how it got there, I may never know, but I knew I couldn't risk him taking it ever again, so I gathered together the Guardians of the time, and we broke the Blade into four pieces, and created four vaults to hide them: the scabbard Vault, the Hilt Vault the Blade Vault, and the Tip Vault."

"This was a little over a century ago. I haven't heard anything from my brother since, but lately, I've been sensing a shift in the balance, and having visions of my father. Something big is coming, something that will change Ninternia forever. Whether for good or ill, I cannot say, but what I do know is that it's time for my father's heir, the Ultimate Elemental, to rise, and for the next generation of Elemental Guardians to unlock their powers." A quiet fell over them as Ju finished his story and the young Guardians digested the information.

Khan glanced at the others. Jaya had a thoughtful frown on her face that he knew well. Ren looked like he was going to explode with excitement. Ninja 1's face went from stunned to determined before his eyes. Ninja 3 still wore his mask, concealing his expression.

Breaking the silence, Jaya asked, "Sensei, you said it's time for your father's heir to rise, but how are we supposed to know who the Ultimate Elemental is in the first place?"

"If you choose to accept, your first job will be to retrieve the four Blade pieces. The Blade of Elements will then reveal its next wielder, " Ju explained.

"Okay, now for the important question; WHO HAS WHICH ELEMENT!?!" Ren said.

Ju rose and stood before Khan and said "First, I give you Khan Lenori, Guardian of Fire. Next is his sister, Jaya Lenori, Guardian of Water. Then Clay Brooks, Guard of Earth. After that, Ren Walker, Guardian of Lightning, Finally, Cyrus Julian, Guardian of Ice." As Cyrus's, Ninja 3, name left Sensei Ju's lips, he finally threw back his hood blowing the teenager's minds for the the third time that night.

Why?

Because Cyrus was a robot. He had short, metallic hair done in a crewcut. His eyes were light blue lights with slanted eye brows above them, and a strong nose between them. His face was expressionless and his stance rigid, but beyond that, he almost looked human. Almost.

"I. Demand. To Know Who. Made. You." Ren said slowly as he walked over to Cyrus and kneeled in front of him, inches from his face, "BECAUSE-THIS-WORKMANSHIP-IS-INCREDIBLE!!" Cyrus blinked.

"My apologies, I do not remember my creator," he said.

Ren ignored him as he got up, hauled Cyrus to his feet, and paced circles around him, poking and posing him while he muttering under his breath. Suddenly, he stopped pacing and thrust his index finger up in the air

"I've got it!" he said, "You're a nindroid! A ninja android!" Ren then sat back down looking very pleased with himself. The others stared at him.

"Crazy thing?" Khan said, "That's not the weirdest thing I've heard tonight." That earned him some laughs, and he felt the tension ease a bit.

"Now that you all know your heritage, and why I brought you here, it's time for you to make a choice. Will you watch history be made, or will you be the ones to make it?" Sensei Ju asked.

"Well, when you put it like that..." Khan said, rising to his feet along with the others, "Is it really a choice?"

Today's short focuses on using footwork and footsweeps to gain a dominant angle and land punches. Here you see an example of how Savate uses punches to hide the footwork necessary to gain a superior angle of attack. The key is moving your feet at the same time you're throwing that first hook. If you move before or after the movement will not be hidden properly, so you must do it the same time you throw that first hook. Give it a try and stay sneaky my friends.

Like many throws, Osotogari can be used as the opening for a combination.  Because it’s common for most judoka to know the defense for Osotogari (oftentimes stepping back with the foot you’re attempting to reap and/or resulting by leaning or pushing in the opposite direction).

Wouldn’t you know, when you feel your opponent start to react to defend against your Osoto, switch to a Sasae Tsurikomi…

Judo for lunch!

So I had today off from work so I got to show up at my friend's judo school to do some randori! I’m the one who got him into judo but when I broke off to do BJJ he stayed with judo so he outranks me now. We traded tips and worked on some fun grip stuff and he taught me a super awesome set up for a footsweep and I showed him some fun ground stuff. It felt so good to slap the brown belt on and gets some throws! I missed it so much.
