I think peace is...one good month or two away. If I am wise and concentrate my efforts. So I'm spending my time setting things in motion to ensure good months.

I feel repetitive saying, 'It's nothing compared to what it was,' but it's true every time. Which doesn't necessarily make the present moment any easier, but it DOES remind me that the arc bends towards less pain. More time = less pain. So even if I do nothing but wait it out, progress is still happening. And I am doing much more than just waiting.

Finding the right meds will help. Making use of my new health insurance will help. Warmer weather will help. Once my sleep schedule is fixed (and given that I'm awake right now to type this, that's well underway), I can start exercising again (I like exercising), and all that will help, too.

It's all much slower than I would like, which is problematic (I excel at sprints; notoriously bad at marathons), but I'm learning.

Now I'm rambling. Thank you again. ❤️

How to Make Your Very Own Plush Strahd!

Part 2: Arms and Body

Arms: (Make two in the same color as the head yarn)

Round 1: Six SC in a magic ring (6)

Round 2: Increase in all six (12)

Round 3-4: SC in all twelve. (12)

Round 5:

Left Arm: 5DC bobble in next st, SC in next 11 st (12)

Right Arm: SC in next 11 st, 5DC bobble in next st (12)

Round 6: (SC in next 2 st, Decrease) repeat 3x (9). Stuff with yarn as you continue crocheting.

Round 7-14: SC in all nine st. (9)

Round 15: SC in next 4 st, decrease, SC in next 3 st (8)

Round 16: SC in all eight.

Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing, weave the thread through each front loop and pull tight to close.

Booties (Make two):

Round 1: Six SC in a Magic Circle (6)

Round 2: Increase SC in all six (12)

Round 3: Increase SC every other stitch around (18)

Round 4-5: SC around (18)

*We will come back to these to add the last four rounds to create the tops of the boots after we have finished the legs*

Vex grabs Vax by the shoulder. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“The general store? To buy food?”

“Nope.” She pushes at his arm, turning him back toward the street. “Just--go wait with Fenthras.”

Vax looks over his shoulder at the horse. Fenthras snorts and tosses his head. “Really? I can’t even go into the general store?”

“No.”

“But--”

Vex steps closer, getting into his face. “Three towns in a month, Vax. I don’t want to have to run away again in a week.”

His shoulders fall. “Fine.”

She studies his face, then nods and lets him go. “I’ll only be a minute.”

“Sure.” He stomps down the stairs to the hitching post, but pauses and turns toward her again. “Hey, Vex?”

“What?”

He tries for a smile. “Pick me up those biscuits I like?”

Vex crosses her arms, trying and failing to frown. “Whatever, Vax.”

“You’re my favorite,” he sings. She rolls her eyes and leaves him.

A little bell rings as she pushes open the door to the general store. She blinks, waiting for her eyes to adjust now that she’s out of the sun. A man in a dusty apron smiles at her from the counter.

“Morning, miss. Anything I can help you with?”

She gives a small wave. “Good morning. I’m just stocking up on a few things.”

“Sure. Well, you got your boxes and cans on that wall, feed over there if you need it. I’ve got some nicer things on the wall back here, so let me know if there’s anything I can grab for you. Oh, and today’s produce delivery should be here soon, if you don’t mind waiting a few.”

Vex nods. “Thank you, sir. You’re too kind.”

“Just doing my job, ma’am. You give a holler if there’s anything I can do for you.”

She gives her best smile and a small thank you. The sooner they’re out of town, the better. She finds Vax’s biscuits and grabs a pack, then starts collecting the cheapest supplies she can find. A couple cans of beans, oatmeal, cheese. She eyes the coffee and decides she can spend enough for a small package of beans.

Another door opens. “Ah,” says the shopkeeper. “Right on time.”

“Morning, sir.” A woman appears in the door, backlit by the morning sun. She steps in, and Vex takes in a green dress, vibrant red hair, and a bright smile.

The woman carries two massive baskets of colorful fruits and vegetables. Vex eyes the curve of her tone arms before turning back to the shelf of coffee.

“Here, here,” says the shopkeeper. “Let me sort these, and I’ll get these baskets back to you.”

“Take your time,” the woman says.

Vex gathers her things and takes them to the front counter. The shopkeeper nods at her from the produce table he’s refilling. “Be with you in just a moment, ma’am.”

“No rush,” Vex says. She leans against the counter and picks a nail.

The red-haired woman moves closer. She shifts, producing a ripe, richly-colored peach. She slides it across the counter toward Vex’s pile.

Vex looks up at her.

“Trust me,” the woman whispers. “Picked it myself.”

“You work here?”

The woman shakes her head. “At the farm outside town. But I make deliveries a couple times a week.”

“Oh.”

The woman’s eyes linger on her. “You’re not from around here.”

Vex’s hand twitches toward her bow. She runs her fingers along the string, calming herself. “What of it?”

“Oh!” The woman’s cheeks darken. “Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just that I’m usually the only new face around here. It’s nice to see other travelers.”

Vex tilts her head. “Are you really a traveler if you work here?”

“I guess not. It’s temporary, though. I’m just saving up money so I can keep going.”

Vex thinks about the clip of cash she keeps beneath her pillow every night. “Word of advice, then. Keep those plans to yourself.”

The woman wrinkles her nose. “Fair enough.”

The shopkeeper stands and stretches, groaning. He walks back to the counter, handing the now-empty baskets back to the woman. “Here you are. And your pay. Keep the change for yourself.” He hands over a small cluster of bills.

The woman beams. “Thank you, Mister Tristan.”

“Don’t mention it. I swear, the crop gets better every week you’re there.”

“You’re very kind.”

The woman tucks her money away. Vex looks away to pay for her food and stuff everything into her bag. She grabs the peach last, looking back over at the woman.

“Um. Thank you, by the way.” She holds the peach up.

The woman grins. “My pleasure. Hey--are you staying in Stilben a while?”

Vex raises an eyebrow. The woman’s shoulders fall, just a little.

“Right, keep your plans to yourself.” She perks up again. “Well, if you are, I guess I’ll see you around. And if not--well, best of luck, I suppose.”

She straightens her dress, tucks the empty baskets under her arm, and heads for the door.

“Wait.” Vex isn’t sure why she says it, but then the woman turns, a small, hopeful smile curling her lips, and she can’t help but ask, “What--what’s your name?”

“Keyleth.”

“Keyleth.” It forms easily in her mouth.

“And you are?” Keyleth smiles a little. “Or is that a secret, too?”

“Vex,” she says. “And...you might see me around again.”

“Vex,” says Keyleth, and it’s unlike anything Vex has ever heard before. “Pleased to meet you, Vex. I hope you’re right.”

AMERICAN GODS

It’s based on the book by Neil Gaiman, which remains my childhood-favourite-that-should-really-have-been-an-adult-favourite. Warnings for LOTS of violence (think.... Tarantino levels of gore - it’s weirdly ‘artistic’ and very OTT), Bryan Fuller, Hannibal-esque spiritual weirdness (although it comes with the territory here), more Bryan Fuller, and a scene where a woman eats a man with her vagina in the VERY FIRST EPISODE. It only gets better after that.

The main plot follows a guy named Shadow who JUST NEEDS NICE THINGS TO HAPPEN TO HIM! Just let him have a little sit down!!! He’s had a very rough day/week/year!!!!!! 

He gets out of prison early after his wife dies. Before he has time to process, a bunch of Gods crash into his life, led by the mysterious Mr Wednesday - who’s recruiting the old pantheons for a war against Media, TV, guns, etc.; the deities of the modern age. 

The whole show is trippy, weird, hilarious and touching. It’s simultaneously extremely poignant and just a little pretentious. I love it. 

Better enjoyed in small doses. I’d prescribe a few episodes a week rather than a marathon binge!
