Food Types - critique
These were the design ideas that I presented during my critique. I took some notes as well and I’m going to try and apply them in my designs because I feel that my project is in a good path but there is a lot of room for improvement.

these are a few photos I took to use in my design. I photographed these in my kitchen as I wanted them in a natural setting and somewhere users would create their cocktail.

Yeah, like eating each item separately is one thing, but making an app that randomizes the order of your eating so it’s undetectable and then setting up a system so that you can eat using this new randomizer only to realize that people could crack the code if they figured out the foodOrder(Plate); so you create code to randomize the way you assign order. AssignOrder(int foodTypes); These both output n-hexadecimal numbers and then print them to the screen. Hexadecimal only to confuse people and allow you to lie and say that this is an app that gives you the primary colors of your food. Truly this is “normal” and neurotypicals do this all the time to hide this. I must pass as neurotypical now.
#I would like to note that eating one food<especially if it’s your favorite or some high mark> is normal#but usually the difference is that autism usually protects this where as neutrals are much more: I can switch my focus if I want/need

Final Design for Food Types

final food types
This is my final design for food types. I ended up slightly changing the illustration and just using the redrawn toppings not the outline of the pizza. I think this works a lot better as the outline before was too sketchy so it distracted away from the actual recipe. I like how the toppings have an imperfect/hand drawn look as it compliments the main title typeface. I also changed the titles (’for the dough’ and ‘for the sauce’), I just removed the colon and made the boxes smaller. I also made some small adjustments to the main type on the right hand side to make the edges look better and to remove widows/orphans

Food Types - research/inspiration
I asked my mother to photograph the old cookbooks of my grandmother. Other than the books she also used to have a handwritten cookbook where she would write down her own recipes. My mother and I still use this cookbook and we have also added our own recipes. I really like my grandmother's handwriting and especially the tilt to the left. I think this is a good starting point regarding my typeface decisions.
While searching for typeface combinations on Fonts in Use, I came across this cookbook from Akis Petretzikis, a famous Greek chef. I like how there is a combination of photography and illustration and how the one compliments the other.

The image attached shows the grid options I have laid out for myself so I can begin development with the placing the design elements in different positons.

Week 8
I test printed my double page spread as I could not tell properly how the colours would come out by designing in CMYK. Some of the shades looked brighter than I wanted to on my laptop, so I test printed to check.
I saw that the bright green printed my desired shade, but the red printed pinkier than I wanted it too. I therefore changed my red to the darker maroon from my previous colour palette. I then printed this version and was much happier. I then also expanded my background colour and imagery out, and added bleed to my document settings for printing.
I printed on studio paper as my G.F.Smith Naturalis A3 paper also didn’t come on time due to Royal Mail Easter backlog. I was happy with this paper as it was very similar with a high quality satin feel.

Recipe Design 4
For this final design, I wanted to do another simple layout but this time I added a little colour to the page, the colour is picked from the image. I added dividing lines to create a system of what you’d look at first. I highlighted the ingredients with a box to create separation between the text. I do think that the spacing of the text needs to be spread out a little more as it all looks like one.

Food types development
After my tutorial I was told to experiment with adding texture into my design. Previously I had experimented with sketching different pizza toppings to use but they didn’t end up fitting my layout but I did really like the style. Therefore, I decided to draw a pizza in this sketchy style. Once I had scanned it in I decided it didn’t fit the design so in illustrator i traced it. I much prefer how it looks as it matches the overall design especially the typography.

Food Types - tutorial (26/4)
For this project I decided to make a Tsoureki. Tsoureki is a traditional Greek sweetbread that is made during Easter. For me this recipe brings back many memories because I usually have it with friends and family. Tsoureki comes in different variations but my favourite one is the one with walnuts and chocolate. This is the one that I made and here are some photos of it, along with the feedback from my tutorial.
