I got my hands on the food allergy again. I haven't changed my habits, so that means someone changed the ingredients.
This sucks so much. I wish they'd just list the ingredients everywhere.

So little thing that I learned recently; under the FDA, drug manufacturers are not required to disclose presence of major allergens in their products. While most medications do not contain gluten-containing ingredients, if you have any food allergy you need to make sure it's on file with your pharmacy, and speak with your pharmacist to find out how they flag for allergens in their system. Sometimes you may need to contact the manufacturer--if so, have the drug NDC (National Drug Code)# on hand, as they often need that to look it up. You can get this information (as well as manufactuer name) from your pharmacy.

Idk if I’ve said this on here but I have celiac disease and I hate when I get a gluten free cake that looks like it has frosting all over but when I open the box there’s only a pitiful little dollop on the top. Get outta here with that. Why do you think I bought cake with frosting? To moisturize that dry chocolate cake. I am not in the business to be DECIEVED by your cake that merely looks like it has frosting on it. Diabolical. I yearn for the frosting.

So I have a new egg allergy, and it's all a bit overwhelming! I'm sure there is a Tumblr community for food allergy sufferers; anyone have any good resources? Thank you!

Every once in a while someone mentions a food and I realize I have never tried it and also can't and maybe never will because of the food allergies and intolerances and then I get mad. Why is the universe cruel to me. I was twenty-one years old the first time I had a croissant (and literally had to cross the Atlantic ocean to do it). I have never eaten a jelly doughnut.

Hey y'all! Weird question time again! Do you have any advice for the best way to give a family member a list of my allergies for reference? My mom recently(ish) moved closer to where I live, so I see her more often, but we hadn't really spent much time together since I figured out what I'm allergic to. She doesn't have the best memory, and spent years accommodating my sister's dietary restrictions, so sometimes she gets them confused? The issue is my sister and I have very different food requirements (most notably my sister eats a lot of coconut and I am very allergic) Would a laminated card work best? An email? I am totally fine making her a reference sheet, I do not expect other people to remember my allergies off the top of their head, but idk what format would be best. If you needed a reference sheet for someone's allergies, how would you prefer to get that reference sheet? Edit: thanks everyone for the replies so far! I did ask my mom what would work best for her and she does not know. She's never had any kind of reference for my sister's dietary requirements, and the only other extended family members we have with food allergies have like one single allergy that is very easy to remember (wheat for one, cucumber for the other)

Edit: emphasis on non spicy food. Also of note is that i don’t have any known allergies and this seems to usually happen for me if I eat a lot of food, seemingly regardless of what food it is.

i hope every person who makes fun of food allergies has a warm pillow on both sides and has wet socks forever and ever. I hope they have a paper cut and then get lemon juice on it.

shen yuan transmitigating into a cat and manages to find his way to shen jiu to stop him from being mean but he's a few years too early. shen jiu who desperately needs companionship has met this cat who's got so much personality and is literally the worlds sassiest and pickiest cat is charmed. he forms a strong bond with the cat.
flash forward to when luo binghe arrives and shen yuan is like "imma show that i like lbh bc shen jiu will be nice to him if i like him right?" and it works. shen jiu still sucks with children but he tries to treat lbh decently bc well. his cat likes him. lbh really is just a cat toy for his cat.
i just thought it'd be funny for shen yuan shen jiu content where sy is a cat bc he'd be so spoiled again and sj would indulge

Another anecdote from the food service job.
At one point, management decided to make a gluten-free station, and like pretty much everything else marketing itself as gluten-free, they did it because they thought it was a dietary fad and not an actual consideration for people with deadly gluten allergies.
To start, my station was within arm's reach of it. And if you remember my previous post working there, that's a bad thing in general. Originally, they were making some general effort at it. They sold gluten-free breads and cookies there for example, but over time things got rolled back because things didn't sell much and it eventually became a dumping ground to put whatever couldn't go anywhere else.
Now I was a generally agreeable worker. Pizzas didn't need my complete attention so I was often called to cover someone else when they went on break or refill certain things when they ran out. If the boss said to do something I would say "On it, boss." And that made my refusal to restock the gluten-free station very jarring to them. And my reason was because I was caked in so much flour that standing near that station was guaranteed to contaminate everything.
The epitome of how much no one actually cared about gluten-free was when the chefs had made pasta but didn't have anywhere to serve it. One cook said "Fuck it, put it at gluten-free" and I had to get into a fight with them over that.
I am amazed there was never a story of someone with a gluten allergy actually getting sick from that station.

allergy PSA
mcAlisters deli is one of the restaurants that began adding trace amounts of sesame to their bread when it became legally required to treat it as an allergen and thus use appropriate measures to reduce cross contamination in manufacturing. (The ostensible excuse for this is that now it's supposed to have sesame in it, so that doesn't count as cross contamination.) The specific breads affected (that I know of) are the ciabatta and the baguette, but there may be more. If you have a sesame allergy, you will need to look on their website to see if the menu item you're looking at is safe to eat, even if you have eaten it before. I plan on writing a strongly worded letter tomorrow once the Benadryl and Prednisone wear off.
