I've been a very busy bee not just reconstructing my entire mod set-up for New Vegas, but also with making brand new mods myself and updating some of my older ones. I'm on the Nexus, check 'em out!

hey modders just a reminder that using AI for your mods is as bad as AI art and visual deepfakes (especially you sick mfs using AI to make porn mods). just like AI art, you're taking someone's work that they are paid for without consent to get something similar for free and idk how anyone can think that's ok

Idk what happened between March and now but thank you to all the New Vegas modders who suddenly realized there is a large overlap of FNV players and those who hate bugs.

btw i've spent all afternoon shopping around for mods that help me get close to my v's looks on the "fem" frame because in reality maddox is about 5ft tall, lanky and has legs like a spring foal and default male v is simply too hunky (twunky if you're lucky) for that. maddox is a non-op trans man and on homebrew testosterone, so his looks on the "masc" frame are what COULD have been if he'd ever had the desire to change anything further about himself, but he doesn't. it took him a long time to reclaim and be comfortable in his body as it is (and despite all odds being stacked against him and having to do it all on his own).
i'm pretty happy with what i have fo far, but i miss the touch of roughness, muscle and body hair to his skin. i'm also not sure what cyberware i want to work with yet and i do want to mod his actual tattoos into the game (instead of the ones i settled for back then):
Tumblr media
now that i've built my new rig i'm looking into modding cyberpunk myself (i'm a veteran elder scrolls mod creator so i'm confident i'll get a grasp of it quickly), and so far my list of things to do is:
convert the hair he uses on the masc frame to the fem frame
do something about the way too curvy hips/waist (hip dysphoria hello holy hell)
create or port body hair textures
create or port a more athletic/lean muscular body texture
create or port clothes (just as with his HRT and gender expression being very DIY, he mostly dresses in his old clothes (being poor does that to you) and tries to wear them as masc presenting as possible, and gnc stuff is (except for a few modders who are an absolute godsend) very rare on the cyberpunk nexus)
most of this is modelling/ texture work so it might take me a while until it's done, but at least i've written it down somewhere so i don't forget what i wanted to do.
btw: originally he used to be my fnv courier (beloved saddle tramp) actually! i came to terms with my own trans identity through him (shocker, i know, who around here doesn't have That One OC that kicked it all off).
and for everyone curious, he's biracial (afrolatine brazilian mother with surinamese roots, american father with german roots).
i'm not sure which frame i wanna use for him at the moment, there's pros and cons to both of them (but what i have on the fem frame is a good start for sure). we'll see we'll see.

Sorry if this question is too broad or imposing but I'm trying to get into modding Fallout 4 for the first time, mostly to make armor skins. What're the best tutorials? I've tried searching online but a lot of the tutorials are outdated. (Would also love to know how to bash existing skins together though modelling my own would be fun too). Again sorry for this ask I'm just so lost about how to get into modding lol.
Ahhh do not apologize for asking me about modding fallout. I could talk about the guts of this stupid game all day ahhh

modding grip^
Unfortunately I...don't know any good tutorials. I think a lot of Fo4 modders came over already knowing skyrim or FNV. Most of what I know is based on outdated guides, old loverslab threads, my existing graphic design knowledge, and trial-and-error. I think armour is the best place to start because there are so many tools available (thanks tittymodders!), and you don't have to worry about needing 3DS Max for collisions or animations.
This is the only modding tutorial I've ever watched. It's old, but good to show you a proper workflow and how to set up your files. They use creation kit, but if you're just making armour its way easier to use xEdit. I don't even have the ck installed, I do everything in xEdit.
This is an excellent guide to outfit conversions. It gets pretty in depth, but you really don't need to bother with the dismemberment section if it's just for you. It's for FG reduced but you can use it as a general guide for weighting anything for any body and getting your modded outfit game ready.
Texture edits and outfit conversions are where I started and are probably the easiest. The best thing to do is just poke around mods you like and see how they do it.
Some tools:
xEdit: Plugin editor for creation engine games. If you're doing any kind of modding you should learn how to use this. Esl-flagging, running complex sorter, making bashed patches and making your own compatibility patches are skills you need if you want to run a heavily modded game.
Icestorms texture toolbox: the best texture tool, i use the "batch processing" tab at the end to convert .png (no alpha) and .tga (alpha) files to .dds.
Nvidia texture tools exporter: lets you open .dds file in photoshop with the alpha channel intact. You don't need a nvidia card, I'm all team red. Don't bother using this to export unless you have to, its slow as fuck.
Sagethumbs: Gives .dds files thumbnails in windows explorer.
IrfanView: For quickly viewing texture files without launching photoshop. Also an excellent general image viewer.
Bethesda Archive Extractor: Crack open those .ba2 files and get to the goods.
Material Editor: What it says on the tin, lets you edit Fo4 and Fo76 material files. These are like containers that have the paths to all your textures and how they are to be shaded to attach to .nif files.
NifSkope: View and edit .nif files. Dev 7 is the recommended, but Dev 8 can open Fo76 meshes if you want to backport those.
Outfit Studio: Even if you don't use body replacers, this is an incredible tool for editing and weighting meshes. If you're making armour you need this. This is also where I make most of my mashups: you can pull parts from different outfits, slap them together, and export them quickly and easily.
Blender: It's free and it works. Learning to navigate this is going to be your biggest hurdle but it's worth it, trust me. Thankfully blender has a huge community and hundreds of tutorials. This is where I make my hi poly models and do all my retopo/uvs. I also prefer to use blender to edit meshes because it has more robust editing tools.
PyNifly: What I use to import/export .nif files from blender.
Fo4 is made in the 2013 version of 3DS Max and the havok content tools but i haven't bothered to pirate that yet. You don't need it for armour anyways.
I'm sorry this is so long and rambly. If you have a more specific question I might be more helpful ha.

"All I am hearing is fanboys crying fanboy tears" Because you are a sociopath, yes. Not sure why you want people to know in advance. Wouldn't it help your victimisation of others if they didn't know you were evil? "even Tim Cain himself has said that he saw nothing in the show that in any way alters the games" He hasn't been involved since the first game, and worked on mechanics rather than lore. Did you copy/paste this bullshit without listening to a goddamn word he said? "the games themselves have retconned some of the lore" Yeah, which is why people raved about FNV, and generally don't care about the lore from Bethesda games, which mostly doesn't even stay consistent WITHIN THE SAME GAMES. Do ghouls need to breathe? Eat? Drink? Whatever, Beth doesn't care, because it DOESN'T MAINTAIN ANY LORE. People like Bethesda purely for the engine, which is extremely moddable, and because FO4 introduced the ideas of modders about settlement building - which even then were largely screwed up, so modders spent the next decade fixing it, only for Bethesda to break all the mods with a recent patch, most of which can never be fixed because the owners retired, or outright fvcking died. Fallout the game series works IN SPITE of the changes to lore Bethesda has made, and countless hours of work have been done by modders working AROUND the idiocy. Entire careers in Youtube were created by the problems Bethesda has introduced into someone else's creative vision. The fact the major piece of advice noobs always get is "mod the ever living fvck outta it" is because that base bethesda story is terrible, and the series just made it so much worse, by, for example, making ghouls copies of zombies from much better shows.
Tumblr media
Has to have a special Thingie constantly or will lose their mind and become a mindless killing machine. Gosh, where did we hear that one before? Certainly wasn't in any of the games, where even some glowing ones are perfectly civilised.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
And that's not even touching on how dumb the show would be even if the games never existed. Do pip-boys detect radiation? Only when the plot tells them to!
Fallout contradictions.
Tumblr media
I was watching the 'corrections' to the wikis to correct the timeline to the lore of the tv show instead of the games. According to the show, Vault-tec, because capitalist, caused the destruction of the world in 2077. This was done in order to maximise profits, because capitalists are greedy and stupid and don't understand that dead people can't buy stuff. But if you look at the games, there's nothing to support the new reality of the show. Vault-tec clearly was caught by surprise, was totally unready, thought they might have had years to act. They wanted to do experiments in Vault-88 that wouldn't even start until a year after they planned to kill the people they wanted to use to test things on. Step 1: Kill test subjects. Step 2: Get test subjects to try soda. Step 3: Profit!
However, as Todd Howard argues, consoom product, and go on to next product. Only a Nazi would ask questions.

hi i was just wondering what ur nv ghoul courier looked like in-game 👉🏻👈🏻 and what mods u have installed
I really want to play w mods but. I dont know what im doing and i dont want my laptop to explode send help pls
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I use plenty of mods for Fallout New Vegas! The ones I got rn mostly revolve around: Gameplay Quality, Extra Cosmetics, Texture Overhaul, Bonus Followers, and Re-implementing Cut Content.
I think the most important mods are the ones that help FNV run better with **reduced/minimal crashing** (trust me, crashes WILL still happen, but plug-ins at least cut down the amount)
When I first downloaded FNV I followed this install guide on STEAM that showed me how to properly load/order plug-ins. I don't know how relevant it is nowadays, but it was pretty helpful for me! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2373580270
I use the NexusMods hub and Mod Organizer to help as well. https://www.nexusmods.com/
This is the one with Ghoul/Half-Ghoul courier textures! A favorite for sure~ (I personally edited one of the eye textures to get what I had in mind for Colton) https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54460
If you're worried about what your laptop can handle, I recommend focusing on things that improve the game performance, rather than all the fuck ton of mods that crank up the textures or lighting.
Hope this kinda helps point you in the right direction!
