Can't stop thinking about how these two scenes parallel each other. Here we have two older brothers, two great alchemists, desperately looking around themselves and trying to find someone, anyone that could help them because they're suddenly alone in the world. And the only thing they want then, the only thing that matters at all, is that their little brothers live. They both lose an arm – their right arm – to get their brothers back. Scar's brother gives it to Scar, so that he may live and continue his work, and sacrifices his life for him. Ed gives it away to Truth, as the price to get Al's soul back, at least – and we know he was also ready to lose more, as he says “Whether it be an arm or a leg, take it! But give him back! He's my only brother!”. And as I said, they're both desperate because even though they're not experiencing grief for the first time, losing their brothers would make them completely alone.

Following along with Danny Motta's Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood reactions made me decide that yeah, I should probably finally watch the actual show myself too.

I'm always hesitant to get into really popular media because I'm afraid of it being overhyped. Not in the sense that it'll turn out to suck, just that like you go in with really really high expectations that may not get met and so it feels like it falls flat, ya know?

Anyway just finished episode 3 and I am significantly less worried about that, it seems great so far lol. Since I'm caught up on the reaction videos I have a vague idea of some future plot points but otherwise this is basically a blind watch for me. Despite this show being so insanely popular, somehow the only things I really knew about it was a super vague idea of Ed and Al's background (i.e.: they tried to bring their mom back via alchemy and it went terribly wrong, resulting in their current appearances) and then like, Nina lol. And that there are personified versions of the 7 deadly sins, but nothing else about them aside from what I've now seen in the reaction videos, which still doesn't feel like much.

Slowly but surely I'll get through this show! Gotta use my Crunchyroll subscription on something lol.

oh yeah ive finally made an honest to god anime fan out of my dad. turns out hes like me and can slam back 12 episodes in a day 😌 whereas skerples can usually only watch like 3 or 4. anyway he started trigun 98 today and like he only had time to watch 1 ep before leaving but yay :)

edit. realized i've probably never talked about this but this is a big deal for me bc i've been trying to get him into anime for over a decade since he first saw me watching trigun 98 in the living room with my bf at the time and would get entranced and watch chunks of the episodes standing in the doorway but always maintain he just "didn't like anime" bc he didn't "like the artstyle" and go on about how the only good anime he's ever seen was afro samurai and after a lot of pressure i've finally convinced him to watch a few recently (i made him watch the twewy anime with my for my birthday last year, + got him to watch dr. stone bc he really likes engineering and stuff so i thought he'd like it), and he's watched bits and pieces of a few others recently, bc he's been getting sick at night and when me n skerples are watching stuff he'll sit and kinda watch with us. recently he decided on his own to watch demon slayer and LOVED it, and as he was finishing s1 he was like "well. i think i'm an anime fan now. i really want to find more good ones. i'm thinking about trigun next" <3

“Sugu” you whined, settling next to your boyfriend on the sofa. Suguru had promised to spend a cosy evening at home with you as an apology for being so busy. I’ve watched FMAB a thousand times but Greed’s death STILL gets me every fucking time. 1. Him realizing that Ling is going to get hurt and possibly killed by Father if Greed doesn’t leave his body, 2. Greed coming to terms with the fact that he’s definitely going to get killed by Father but he’s willing to make the sacrifice for Ling, and 3. Greed discovering that what he wanted was what he had the entire time, and that was true friends who would stick with him through thick and thin, who would share the same experiences and failures and triumphs and still love him despite his homunculus status. I’m so.

Also I’m SO pissed at the fact that Pride got to live but Greed didn’t. In my brain I kept saying “Well yeah I guess it makes sense for all of the homunculi to die bc they came from Father and HE has to die” but then I remembered that Pride LIVES and that makes me so salty. Out of all the homunculi Greed deserved to live the MOST AND I JUST. FUCKIGN.
