oh yeah ive finally made an honest to god anime fan out of my dad. turns out hes like me and can slam back 12 episodes in a day 😌 whereas skerples can usually only watch like 3 or 4. anyway he started trigun 98 today and like he only had time to watch 1 ep before leaving but yay :)

edit. realized i've probably never talked about this but this is a big deal for me bc i've been trying to get him into anime for over a decade since he first saw me watching trigun 98 in the living room with my bf at the time and would get entranced and watch chunks of the episodes standing in the doorway but always maintain he just "didn't like anime" bc he didn't "like the artstyle" and go on about how the only good anime he's ever seen was afro samurai and after a lot of pressure i've finally convinced him to watch a few recently (i made him watch the twewy anime with my for my birthday last year, + got him to watch dr. stone bc he really likes engineering and stuff so i thought he'd like it), and he's watched bits and pieces of a few others recently, bc he's been getting sick at night and when me n skerples are watching stuff he'll sit and kinda watch with us. recently he decided on his own to watch demon slayer and LOVED it, and as he was finishing s1 he was like "well. i think i'm an anime fan now. i really want to find more good ones. i'm thinking about trigun next" <3

“Sugu” you whined, settling next to your boyfriend on the sofa. Suguru had promised to spend a cosy evening at home with you as an apology for being so busy. He looks down at you with an amused expression, entertained by your attitude. “pay attention to me not the stupid show” you pout, annoyed that he was actually watching the show you put on intending to be background noise. He laughs and turns back to the TV, waiting for you to do something else. You roll your eyes and decide to take matters into your own hands.

He sighs, kissing your forehead. His first instinct is to scold you for staying up to this hour just for him but your reasoning is so cute that he simply starts to guide you towards the bedroom, fully intent on forgetting about his takeaway and occupying his mouth somewhere else.

Toji started dealing as a way to make money, You were once a loyal customer but eventually you evolved from customer to girlfriend. It started with Toji putting extra in your bags and charging you no extra, then he started giving you weed for free on the condition that you let him smoke it with you. Since you started dating him he hasn't let you pay for a single ounce, insisting he would be a terrible boyfriend if he ever made you pay.

Hohenheim is a really interesting character to me and I liked him quite a bit when first watching fmab but now every time I rewatch it I find myself more and more bitching about the man lol . Not character wise but DAMN every time some shit happens I can't help but go " HM maybe that could have been avoided had he not left his wife to die alone and orphan his children" IDK just a suggestion my guy if you can dick around in Liore 3 days before the apocalypse you are clearly not busy enough to not pick up the phone and dial home 😭. my fullmetal alchemist obsession

I made this blog to post about FMA / Roy Mustang / Royai, but it's 2024, and I feel so late to the party. I started watching FMAB about 5 years ago, but I stopped for some reason and had to start again. I officially finished it 2 years ago, and it changed my life. I experienced peak fiction. When I finished FMAB I sobbed and then I went to bed and woke up crying more because of how moved I was.

Ever since then, I would start adding FMA photos to my Pinterest and I felt like an obsession was about to occur. FMA really lived in my head rent free, but I would suppress it because I already have so many hyperfixations / special interests (I'm autistic).

Out of nowhere about a month ago I was up all night thinking about Fullmetal Alchemist and how much I missed it. My partner suggested I read the manga. I've never read manga before, but I decided to try it out. This was the point of no return. I binged a huge portion of the manga and I watched FMA 2003. That wasn't enough. I played the first PS2 game. AND NOWWWW I'm rewatching Brotherhood while the manga is fresh in my head. I'm currently on episode 62/64. I had to stop because I'm on the final volume of the manga and haven't started because I feel physically ill having to finish the series that is now so beloved to me.

I love FMA so much. It's so perfect. It's peak fiction. I am a changed woman.

I’ve watched FMAB a thousand times but Greed’s death STILL gets me every fucking time. 1. Him realizing that Ling is going to get hurt and possibly killed by Father if Greed doesn’t leave his body, 2. Greed coming to terms with the fact that he’s definitely going to get killed by Father but he’s willing to make the sacrifice for Ling, and 3. Greed discovering that what he wanted was what he had the entire time, and that was true friends who would stick with him through thick and thin, who would share the same experiences and failures and triumphs and still love him despite his homunculus status. I’m so.

Also I’m SO pissed at the fact that Pride got to live but Greed didn’t. In my brain I kept saying “Well yeah I guess it makes sense for all of the homunculi to die bc they came from Father and HE has to die” but then I remembered that Pride LIVES and that makes me so salty. Out of all the homunculi Greed deserved to live the MOST AND I JUST. FUCKIGN.

WHAT A WONDERFUL MESSAGE!!!!!!! TALKING ABOUT FMAB IS MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!

i think the most boring and least philosophical thing i love about it is the literal execution. i studied literature in college and storytelling as a craft is something i am passionate about, and i truly have never experienced a better, more expertly constructed narrative in my entire life. even if the themes or characters didn't resonate with you, i think anyone would struggle to argue that it is anything other than a nearly perfectly executed story. it has a clear message that it wants to tell; it states it plainly and without remorse. nothing is superfluous, every single scene and lines serves an explicit purpose that becomes clear at a later stage in the story. the characters are complex, flawed, realistic, interesting, and experience significant growth in ways that make logical sense. the lore, science, and worldbuilding is tight and does not lose itself in a confusing, abstract magic system. it's rules are clearly defined, and any deviations are explained, and have clear consequences. the plot is intentional and clear. it has incredible rewatch/re-read value because the foreshadowing is abundant. there is deeper political and philosophical meaning littered throughout for those who care to delve into it. the ending is near-perfect (id call the manga perfect, some show changes weaken it slightly. im looking at you roy finale scene...). there is not a single plot hole. every single thread that was introduced not only gets a satisfying conclusion, but a conclusion that has profound narrative impact. the way things come together in the final arc is actually breathtaking to witness and makes me giddy every single time.

on a more philosophical level, the overall message of the story is something that has resonated with me in a way nothing ever has in my entire life. a story that tackles religion, imperialism, genocide, and complacency within those systems with the goal of better understanding what it means to be a human being, and comes up with the conclusion that you are morally obligated to overthrow your evil government is fucking insane. i cannot think of anything else that so unashamedly makes such a statement. arakawa has talked about how japan's imperialism influenced the story, and it resonates similarly as an american. i just watched the first four episodes last night and i was struck by the freezing alchemist saying to edward "don't you know who you're working for and what they're doing?" and edward says, "who cares? its not my problem." and... well. if you have watched it, you know what he would have to say about that at the end of his journey. and isn't that were so many of us start out? is there a single more important belief to unlearn when you live at the heart of an empire? the way it so proudly declares that human connection is most powerful force in the universe floors me every time. it is a story that makes me a better, more thoughtful, more caring, more appreciative, and more accountable person, and it gives me hope for the world every single time i watch/read it. it has fundamentally changed my outlook on life and the human experience for the better.

i could keep going for literally years but i have actual schoolwork to do today so ill have to stop now. but im sure ill be writing thinkpieces on it as i get further in my rewatch. thanks for inviting me to yap <3

These are my favorite movies. Favorites can bounce around a little but generally speaking these tend to come back most often or have never moved. Naked Lunch is an adaptation of a book which is also very good. I don't recommend watching it with someone else unless you're confident it's their speed it can really fucking bore people and a lot of what can be considered comedic is maybe unsavory. Just speaking as someone who thought it would be a good idea to show it to 2 people who were definitely getting absolutely nothing out of it. I've always loved Saw 2. It was the first one I watched, and it was the year it released. Personal bias aside I have a lot of thoughts as to why it's the best installment from traps to matters of story and design. Meet The Feebles comes and goes but I always hand it the most positive regards and I always love showing that one to people. It's a completely solid dark puppet horror-comedy made by Peter Jackson (yes that one) and TDC speaks for itself. I grew up watching it just about every day when I was living in a tattoo shop. We had a tv in the lobby and I'd come down to put on He-Man/TDC and draw. As for shows I actually like quite a few. I love Venture Bros. It's a huge staple for my head and I owe it a lot for my general development in my pre-teens even if it wasn't the most appropriate thing to be consistently watching at my age. I never dropped it and have rewatched it A LOT. I don't hesitate to call it my favorite show of all time. I also enjoy BrBa/BCS as much as the next person and have also watched both of them multiple times, but I'm not really into "fandom" and I don't post about it or anything apart from sharing some pieces that jadenvargen created when it randomly hit a gay-viewer peak. In any case they're also favorites. I really liked The Walking Dead and binged a shit ton of it a couple yrs ago. Unfortunately while I LOVE zombies I am picky about them and as soon as we started getting into More Drama Less Zombies territory I got really bored. I never finished it. I do really enjoy the first handful of seasons though honestly, specifically when you can see the VERY strong highs and lows Rick faced and reacted to and what happened to his head. HIs son pisses me off. I'm not immune to doing obnoxious character impressions when less than sober. I'm a very passive anime watcher but I really enjoy the ones I get into. Panty & Stocking is great, I like Naruto as a show but don't have interest in anything after Shippuden. I liked Mob Psycho. I liked Golden Kamuy but ended up reading it instead at some point. FMAB was the 2nd anime I ever finished and I still like it a lot even if I seriously have never brought it up. Easy favorite. I like seeing how peoples thoughts regarding it have changed and spun over time and influenced other work. I enjoy most Muppets stuff. I like the show more than the movies. Hate abc's Muppets. Fraggle Rock is a come-and-go favorite. Sesame Street I don't watch as much but I enjoy it with about the same energy attached to the fault of their larger puppets being some personal favorites. M*A*S*H is a huge favorite but I don't watch it as often as some of the aforementioned as an adult. I like Transformers (G1) I think it's funny and great and I try to show it to people often. Maybe a strange curveball but I have guilty pleasure reality tv shows I enjoy a lot. They were/are all on Oxygen if that helps you narrow down the flavor. I named my schools of tetra fish after some of them as a kid. Come to your own conclusions. One of them was named Jersey Shore but I didn't actually like that one too much I got sick of looking at Pauly D. Sometimes shows on TLC get me but I don't tend to finish them or see the storyline out. I have no explanation. I'm sure something big is probably slipping me but maybe this does the job. I like a really wide variety of shit and I rarely fully turn something down without some kind of investigation, even if it's a trailer or a 1 episode watch for water testing.

Arcane is one of those things that are unlikely to ever happen again within our lifetime. The quality in all regards is exceptional and it has set a new bar for not only animation, but entertainment in general. A true testament... no, a fucking manifesto on what passionate people with a vision and the funding can accomplish.

The best case you could ever make as to why all fantasy and science-fiction should be done in animation. A cockslap to hollywood cocksuckers that thing anything non live-action or not USAmerican is lesser. Not only visually stunning, it is only comparable to productions like fucking spiderverse or other big-shot animated movies.

Honest to god queer rep (that I didn't think would happen so so I find myself humbled) and an insanely diverse cast. Tackling both Mental and Physical disabilities, the deep complexities of human psychology in the face of adversity.

I will be honest. I liked season 1, but I wasn't hooked. I watched it a few times, and of course its quality blew me away. But something about season 2, despite being ever so slightly rushed (you could easily make 2 seasons out of this one), just clicked with me. I didn't cry with the ending, but it's hard to make me cry. I did cry with the watercolor scene of Vander's memories in act 2 tho so it's not like I walk out of this without having shed some tears.

Go, Arcane. I truly hope you join the pantheon of animated works that will remain in the zeitgeist like ATLA and FMAB.

I'd just like to say, you put FMAB on my radar again. I never really looked into it before, however I've been considering either reading the manga or watching the anime, how would you describe the series to a newcomer?

A tale of loss, trying to regain your own autonomy, family secrets and the realization of your own fuck ups?

Like the story revolves around Edward and Alphonse who are genius brothers who try to bring their mom back from the dead. They don't, and instead come face to face with truth. “Who am I? One name you might have for me is The World, or you might call me The Universe, or perhaps God, or perhaps the Truth. I am all and I am one, so of course this also means that I am you. I am the truth of your despair."

Like it's NEVER DISCUSSED if this is God. We know them as Truth.

Truth takes Ed's leg, and Al's WHOLE body and then Ed gives up his arm to bind Al to a suit of armour. They are looking for a way to give Al his body back. And like... it's intense.

I honestly would say it's my fav anime series of all time. It's about these boys who were arrogant enough to try to beat Death and got smacked down. They're smart, skilled. They are on top of the world in the beginning. But then they get confronted with 'everything you know is a lie' and they have to face this. They have to come to terms with this.

Their father walked out? Well, turns out he had a reason to! (He's still a shitty dad)

Oh hey, you know that thing that could save your guys lives? Guess what it's powered by! Human souls! Meaning you have to go against your morals if you want to use it!

Hey, so everything you thought was true? NOT.

Then the side characters? Oh my god, they're amazing. Badass women, dorky but skilled men, the villains are epic, and I just.... AHHH.

And the ending?! No spoilers but it is one of my fav endings because most anime/stories start with someone being raised to godhood, but FMAB? No, this is someone stepping down from their pillar and it is BEAUTIFUL. (I still want to keep Alchemy/Automail for ed though...)

ALSO THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST DISABILITY REP? Like, Ed is disabled. He has prosthetics. They function like his old limbs but they also DON'T.

He lost his dominate arm, and his automail isn't built for writing, so he has to use his other hand. They're so heavy his growth has been stunted. He can't swim. The cold can kill him easier, and the desert? YIKES. Plus they can/do break.

I fully recommend it. I found this old reddit thing once saying to watch the first 23 or so episodes of the 2003 version, then FMAB and I do recommend that. 2003 was being produced while FMA the manga was being written, so they got a good chunk of episodes before they went off the rails. It's not a bad off the rails, but I prefer FMAB for the fucking stellar ending.
