Playing around with some poses and colors.
The OG sketch didn't look too great, couldn't get the angles right. Arranged the poses in DollDesign, used that as a base. Still not happy with the weight of the poses, the uneven thickness of the lines and the hair, but at this point I've settled and just got it done and dealt with. :'D

😧i don't remember this in the anime 😨
#fma#fullmetal alchemist#fmab#fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood#alphonse elric#fma manga#im finally reading the manga and im so shocked by the differences to 03!#i think i prefer 03's version w some things i like better in the manga#but im genuinely surprised by the differences like hughes not being on the train#and yoswell mine not being ed's first mission. thats genuinely so ??? confusing i dont like that#but i think i prefer a lil of how the events went in the manga (like the inn not being repaired by him and the lack of lyra)#(not that i dislike her but her character only has a purpose and role in 03)#anyway back to this specific page#ive always loved the fact al didn't step in#and in one (or both?) of the animes hes just shown standing there silently and watching ed beat tucker up#he only interferes once it gets to the point where tucker might die bc they dont kill ppl#and these 2 panels rly drive it home#but once again to the differences between the 3 versions of FMA; i dont understand how ppl have 1 version they think is The Best#i think they all do some things better than the others and its like. i prefer the tone of 03 but the story of brotherhood for example#and especially for the early events not shown in BH my views on them are so weirdly mixed between the manga and 03#aaa i love 03's fight scenes and how dark and serious they take ed being a kid... especially episode 8 with barry...#and mustang's machinations and plots and plans using the brothers as pawns for his own purposes ueeee love that so much

(人◕ω◕) Anyone remember the Tragedy of Lyra, from Fullmetal Alchemist 2003? No? Just me? ...kay. (人◕ω◕)
In a nutshell: Ed and Al defeat this gal, Lyra. In episode 9. We don't see her for a while. She pops back up, having learned valuable life lessons, and wants to become a State Alchemist and help people. Cool display of a character with humility and atonement, really turned her life around. (人◕ω◕)
... For not even five minutes, folks. Chimeras attack, she gets knocked out. After things settle down, she fixes some dishes. ... And then off-screen gets body-swapped and killed by her latest employer, Dante. The main antagonist of the 2003 series.
I've seen some unfairness in anime/manga series, but that's pretty up there, gang. (人◕ω◕)** You don't have to like or forgive Lyra right off the bat (though frankly she's not as bad as most villains I've seen; she was just working for her employer in episode 9, and I think a lot of people can relate to that. Employers. Writing your checks. (人◕ω◕)). But give her a freaking chance. Don't just steal her body and...ugh. XD
There was massive potential in Lyra-chan. To an extent, she liked Ed and Al. Looked up to them despite losing to them. Attributed her change of heart to them. (人◕ω◕) She took a long, hard look at herself and wanted to do good for the world. Dante was apparently one of the most renowned alchemists, so Lyra sought to learn under her tutelage. Dante even taught Izumi, Ed and Al's teacher, once upon a time. So it's not like Lyra should have just known better, picked a better role model; Dante hid her true nature well, and Lyra didn't do any evil deeds under her. She was just a housemaid. Wrong place, wrong time.

Like many other characters that fell to the wayside over the years, Lyra-chan sticks with me. (人◕ω◕) If Ed saved her from being possessed, through some fluke or miracle, if he helped her seek shelter with the State Alchemists... Well, there's no guarantee she would have been safe. But maybe she could have traveled around with Ed and Al. Grown closer to them, maybe gotten into catfights with Winry... Dante probably would've found another host, she was that desperate to achieve immortality. And I'm not saying that's okay. To just steal someone else's life. But that is what makes her a villain, I suppose.
Ed isn't the easiest guy to ship for because he's a bit...moody. (人◕ω◕);;; However, I do find a certain charm to that. He obviously gets along with Winry like cats and dogs, and his choice to leave her behind much of the time is aggravating. But Ed does care about his brother, and his friends, and I can see him valuing Lyra as a friend. Especially if she insists on taking care of his needs, seeing that he has food every day and a bed to sleep in every night. Ed would want Lyra to be more independent, and see to it that she received compassion in kind.
Maybe Ed wouldn't be Lyra's ideal beau, but there's potential here. (人◕ω◕) Yes, yes. Another perpetually short guy. I know. I'm hopeless, what can I say. Makoto, Nagisa, Yuma, Ed... Japan's the one cooking up these short guys. I just roll with it cuz they turn out respectable and decent. And I mean, c'mon~ Lyra's not that much taller. ......... Perfect contact zone, cuddles would have his face aligned with her bo...... (人◕ω◕);; *coughs* Anyway. This amuses me. I ship it. Ed x Lyra needs more lovin'.
And maybe Ed refuses to drink most milk... But if it's Lyra-chan's......... (人◕ω◕);;; I'll stop.

Parallel between Edward slashing across Lyra's chest with his automail to break her pendant's chain vs Edward slashing across Dante's chest with his automail to cut her dress and reveal her decay... hm.

2018 dump, part 3, FMA Vampire AU edition. Some solemn contemplation, some mourning, and one sequence of absolute panic as Lyra's attempted murdered and drained of blood by an ancient vampire corpse. You know how it is.

(Sorry in advance for yapping; I just have a lot of thoughts on this topic as it's my special interest)
I feel like the issue with watching fma03 up until Hughes's death and then switching over is that the beginning of 03 sets up a lot of plot threads that never happen in BH, so the continuity issues that mashing them up would create could be confusing or disappointing.
For a new watcher, trying to connect dots or theorize/analyze about anything would probably just be kind of like:
"So homunculi are dead people brought back to life? Huh, who was Lust then; why does Scar know her? And what about this 'Juliet Douglass' homunculus who resembles Trisha Elric so much? If she really is the brothers' creation, how did she get like this-" Well, you'll never find out about any of that in BH; homunculi aren't dead people there and none of it ever happened.
"This new wannabe state alchemist Lyra seems like trouble, but maybe Ed's words came through to her? It's left ambiguous for now; I wonder if we'll ever see her again-" Well not in BH; she never even existed there.
"Making Ed accidentally kill Majhal is a surprising character choice for the refuses-to-kill guy. Is fma trying to say it's impossible for him to pursue this dream without bloodshed? The younger slicer brothers' unavoidable suicide seems like it could represent that too... 66 points out to an alarmed Ed that it's a choice between suicide and execution, reminding us that Ed is working for a military that will draw blood no matter what he personally does. And then there's Ed and Al's narrow escape after refusing to kill prisoners, leaving Ed uncertain.... Will he eventually be forced to abandon his ideal?" Not really in BH; literally none of that ever happened there.
"Shou Tucker is STILL ALIVE in lab 5?? It's crazy to think that he regrets the harm he caused with alchemy but is now trying to make up for it by further allying himself with the far more evil Amestrian military state. I wonder how this subplot will compare to Ed's or Mustang's, as they're kind of doing the same thing-" It won't; Tucker doesn't come back at all in BH.
"It seems like Scar and Al as starting to become friends. I wonder how this will impact Ed's-" it's not impacting anything because it never happened in BH.
Like those are all just examples from the top of my head of 03-only elements set up in the first 25 episodes; there are probably more.
I would need to completely rewatch both to give you a super indepth answer.
My main thing is that 03 has way more depth for hue's character, atleast from what I remember. You really get to see him fully fleshed out and developed and in brotherhood he just kinda gets destroyed and that's it.
I should sit down and watch 03 again, I just hate how 03 ended, as do most people.

Trisha never truly met the physical form of the man she loved.
And Trisha unknowingly had children with a stolen body, piloted by the soul of the man she loved.
MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING FOR FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST 2003!!
.
.
Anyone ever like wonder who's body Hohenheim stole??
Like I suppose for the sake of the plot, they (Dante and Hohenheim) either do a background check and choose orphans, or just make the family dissappear alongside any records.
(pretty easy if a massive error like Ed's age being documented as 30 can happen or if you can pretend to be a dead person like sloth did with Julia/Juliet Douglas.. Who knows what other shady shit went on if they can make an entire fucking city dissappear under a church.)
But like it just hit me, that guy's just some random dude who's body Hohenheim stole, we don't know how long ago it was, but if Dante and Hohenheim are rotting at the same pace then it's rather recent right?
What if that guy had like family or someone that's looking for him, what if Lyra, the girl who's body Dante took over had any loved ones?
Imagine seeing them, thinking it's them, seeing their body moving, them talking with the voice you recognize so well, but the tone just sounding so off, it's them, but not at the same time, their mannerism is all wrong when you look at them close enough, you start to catch these inaccuracies, but it's them... You know it's them, but whoever is in that body isn't them. They are moved around by some other person living inside of the rotting flesh of a person you once loved.
Like fuck it's so fucked up, can't like imagine how much sleep Ed lost once he learned that his father has been wearing a flesh suit of some random guy, he's not related to Hohenheim he's related to that random guys body that Hohenheim just happened to inhabit it's so fucking creepy, makes your skin crawl, it's creepier than envy shape shifting because, it's a literal fucking corpse moving.
#not enough people acknowledge that the body we see hohenheim in wasn't his own#same for the elderly woman we see dante use initially#but with hohenheim i can understand the disconnect a bit#in so far that the og hohenheim (pre body snatching; we see him when dante reveals her origins) when he's#attempting to create a philosopher's stone#and his og design looks a lot like what would become Father's design#which is to say: looks somewhat similar to the recent body hohenheim stole#i <33333 fma 03 so much#an addition#trisha#hohenheim#dante#lyra#fma 03#meta

I know FMA is canonically set in another dimension and (excluding CoS) isn't meant to be historical fiction or anything, but sometimes the period atypical clothing in it is just so funny to me
^ Normal 1910s European fashion, in no way influenced by this show having been made in 2003
#i feel bad picking on Lyra here but her outfit just looks so ahistorical it's funny to me#adrien says stuff#fma#fma 03#lyra

fma manga is organized quite a bit differently than I expected. these first few chapters feel so episodic and disconnected, and I have no sense of how they fit together chronologically. which is fine, probably she didn't know where exactly things were going to go and wanted to start slow but still weird to read through.
so far mining town chapter was the best. 魂まで売っちゃいなかった (or whatever it was) got me feeling some kind of way, and the whole thing flows better without lyra. was disappointed in liore chapters that rose really wasn't given any interiority, she felt like a throwaway character sadly. and then later that the whole train thing was really just a coincidence and not a planned manipulation by mustang... kind of missing the "we're both using each other :)))" dynamic he and ed had in the anime. but the panel contrasting their animosity with al and hawkeye being all proper in the background was cute ^^

Foster Sibling Headcanons
TOBY:
Probably the most chill out of the three. Comes with being the eldest.
Will actively start crooning like a raven if you pet his wings or stroke his hair. He's a sucker for physical affection. And when you start, don't think you'll be able to stop. He'll grab your hand and start nuzzling into it.
The red streaks in his hair are connected to his magic. The more his magic builds up, the more the streaks start glowing.
He's an excellent cook, and will literally cook for you whenever you ask him to. He also lets you help out in the kitchen.
Afraid of no one in particular.
Voice claim: Professor Stein, from Soul Eater
LYRA:
She's honestly the most chaotic of the group. Despite being Toby's twin sister she will NOT hesitate to stir up some mischief.
She's a chaotic flirt, so once you get her going there's no stopping her.
Lyra's hair is ALWAYS a mess. No matter how much you try to brush it, it never acts the way you want it. Girl's a literal walking disaster.
Decent cook, but terrible at baking.
Afraid of Toby whenever he's angry.
Voice claim: Marceline, from Adventure Time
CODY:
The gentle one, but he does have a bit of a temper. He gets cranky when he doesn't get enough sleep.
As the youngest Foster sib, he gets most of the attention from everyone.
He's scared of Ann and Eyeless Jack.
He loves being hugged, even if he can't necessarily feel it.
Voice claim: Human!Alphonse Elric, from FMA: Brotherhood

Thank you for the tag Lyra and @vilandel
Hmmm, let us see
Everyone has probably already been tagged so feel free to join if you wish
Tagged by @ashenaura. Thank you!
make a poll with five of your all time favourite characters and then tag five people to do the same. see which character is everyone's favourite
It took me way too long to find 5 favorite characters and I'm sure I've forgotten characters I love more than those 5 but... anyway.
Tagging (ofc no pressure): @vilandel, @hybridanafrost, @kalolasfantasyworld, @mamavino, and @wildflowerwoodsworld. That makes five people.
