Eugene is a tough nut for me, because I don't want the songs I associate with him to necessarily reflect his love for Rapunzel. While that is a big key to his character, it's not the only key to his character, and I do so love differentiating characters from their SO's.

Backstory: Fabian was born in a poverty stricken area of the Port o’Bliss to two loving parents. Tragically, they passed away when Fabian was around four years old and left him to fend for himself on the streets. Fabian learned to trust his gut and to do anything he could to survive such as pickpocketing to eating food straight out of the trash. It was on one of those pickpocketing runs when he was 13 that he was caught by the police who hit him relentlessly and sent him into the local orphanage. Fabian didn’t mind the orphanage that much, it had okay food, other children to talk to, and a roof over his head. It was in this orphanage that he learned he had a knack for storytelling, sharing stories with the other kids long into the night to help them all sleep. Unfortunately he didn’t stay there long til he was fostered by a wealthy couple. The couple was nothing but cruel to young Fabian, forcing him to sleep in the basement, beating him up, forcing him to eat rotten leftovers if he misbehaved, and so much more. Fabian knew he had to get out of this house so one night, he fled the house and wound up back at the orphanage. He begged and pleaded to be let back in. Thankfully, the begging and pleading worked and he was released from his foster parent’s care. Fabian stayed just a little bit more at the orphanage until he was adopted by a sweet older woman who he affectionately calls “Nana.” She was like an angel to him, teaching him life skills and magic. Later on, he was accepted into NRC and was sorted into Octanivelle

last song: Sweet Bod by Lemon Demon! i was listening to the playlist i made for one of my dnd characters (shoutout to mel, the sorcerer ever) and sweet bod was actually the main inspiration for her as a character (she was mummified in honey for abt 100 years and then she came back to life)! but yeah i rlly like making and then listening to character playlists for my oc's (mostly ttrpg characters, but b'rsh bran the kitty ever gets to have 3 playlists)

currently reading: i am veeeeery slowly reading house of leaves, i rlly like it so far, its just that for me sitting down to read a book is kind of a commitment so i dont rlly read as often as i'd like to

currently watching: me and one of my housemates have been rewatching arcane, and before that she got me to watch the dragon prince! dragon prince was rlly fun and sweet, and i love cool fantasy stories :3

current obsession: i'm currently in 2 dnd campaigns with some friends (and i'm preparing to run my own!) and whenever i make oc's for anything i end up thinkin rlly hard abt them (shoutout to b'rsh bran the kitty ever, mel the flynn rider/jesus mashup the world wasn't ready for, and isadora who is just. so sad all the time.)

im also a HUGE fan of the magnus archives, i've been relistening to it at work recently and i managed to get several of my friends to start listening to it >:) i love it so much its such a cool setting and the characters are so neat and cool and i think abt it pretty much constantly

Finley Rider ✤ Stolen Heart​

Finley Rider – Princess Finley Fitzherbert – was all set to live a fairytale life.  She was the heir to the throne of Corona, her parents’ pride and joy, and betrothed to her best friend, Prince Benjamin.  But when a ten year old Finley gets bored at a museum gala and decides to see how many artifacts she can lift without getting noticed, everything changes. When the Beast King catches her stealing Jafar’s staff, he loses his temper.  The child is sent to the Isle, Corona breaks ties with Auradon, Fraser loses his sister, and Ben loses his best friend.  

On her first day on the Isle, Finley gets caught stealing a bracelet off of Lady Tremaine.  But rather than tell the woman, the boy introduces himself as Jay, son of Jafar, and offers Finley a partnership.  Their alliance soon grows into a friendship, and Jay introduces Finley to the other VKs, bringing her into their team.  The five of them rule the island with ease, causing trouble wherever they go.  It isn’t perfect, but Finley has learned to move on from Corona, and from Auradon.  So of course, that’s when Prince Ben makes his first royal proclamation; bringing children of the Isle to Auradon.  The daughter of Maleficent, the son of Jafar, the daughter of the Evil Queen, and the son of Cruella De Vil.  And the lost princess of Corona.

So, I haven't gotten the chance to sit down and write any of this yet, but I do have a developing outline and a playlist.

Here's what I know so far: Alex is, obviously, the Flynn Rider of the story. Instead of being a loner, he's thick as thieves—literally—with June and Nora. I've been going back and forth on where Alex's head will be at, though. He'll either have Seen Some Shit to make him more jaded, OR he'll veer from Flynn's selfishness and have a Robin Hood situation going on. Either way, the trio gets this genius idea to steal from the palace and, as they're being chased, they get separated. Predictably, Alex ends up at the foot of a tower that, unbeknownst to him, has the lost prince of Kensington locked away.

I can also tell you that Henry's hair is not a gazillion miles long, but there is something that he believes his powers are contained to (an idea given to me by the brilliant @nontoxic-writes).

2. Bayside- I've Been Dead All Day

This was the only song I listened to for the first 2 chapters of Asgard's Bard. Now I am very sick of it. But yeah. Reader HAD in fact been dead all day! I thought it was so perfect. I took creating a playlist for that fic really seriously. Like. It's privated because I thought it could spoil the story. Lmao-

And now just reading these lyrics makes me violent.

3. Mother Mother- It's Alright

Mother Mother and Penelope Scott are the anthems for this WIP. It's a zombie apocalypse story I started and abandoned (momentarily) about a year ago. It stars that dude in my profile pic. His name is Jesse, he's kinda fucked up. He's paranoid and wants to be left alone.

4. Egg- Cynical Fairytale

Okay the last 2 are just songs for my main WIP "Solura Canyon". I know this song is like, Rapunzel inspired, but it fits this character so well. She's an aro/ace princess in a kingdom blessed by a goddess of love. Soulmates and a healthy relationship are a sort of "status symbol" thing in the kingdom, so her parents really want her to find her soulmate. Who doesn't fucking exist.

5. Ricky Montgomery- Snow

"When I go, bury me 6 feet in snow"

The princess, Mina, almost dies of hypothermia in the snow. That's it that's the reasoning.

(Also I guess like. "Skeletons, skeletons" relating to her parents keeping secrets, and "'I'm ready' she says as she put on her shoes" being about her running away from home to get answers from a goddess- but its mostly the snow thing.)

Look, I don't want to hear how much you hate humanity again. I got tired of that song so long ago that I've removed it from my playlist.

The attention span of people is rapidly dwindling, people don't memorise the beginning of a book when they are only halfway through it.

This is a catastrophe, an absolute nightmare.]

Yeah, and it takes a few times to remember a movie properly, too. Whining about it isn't going to change anything. Besides, it's not like people had any better memories in the past, they just weren't as noticed because we didn't have social media and no one is gossiping about Abigail borrowing the same book five times in a row because she forgot if she read it or not, they just assume she really loves the book.

[And you know what else is preposterous?

Lack of details. The desire to bring things to a point. Stories wholy plot driven.

Checkov can go to the devil as far as I care. If they bring a gun on stage and don't use it, fine with me, but at least describe the gun.

I hate nothing more than pragmatic stories that just want to keep the plot going.

I want authors like Wilde, Süskind, Lovecraft, de Sade or Hoffmann.

I want vivid, decadent descriptions, side stories and backgrounds of people and objects that can give a deeper insight or tickle the imagination.]

If they're not going to use the gun, then it shouldn't be there at all. Describing a gun pointlessly causes a red herring that makes people think it's going to be used but never is and that upsets people. The whole point of Chekov's Gun is that if it's described at all then it MUST be used at some point.

According to Wikipedia, Chekhov's Gun is a narrative principle that states that every element in a story must be necessary, and irrelevant elements should be removed.

You know, like Cruella stopping firefighters to gawk at a burning building in a way that does nothing to progress the plot. It's irrelevant, it's removed. Simple as that. The only reason it existed at all is because Pongo was talking about how terrible a person she is, and that was established well enough with what little was told about her in the film. Perdita was scared of her, Pongo didn't trust her, and Roger hated her so much he made a song about how bad it was to have her around you. The only one that trusted her at all was Anita, and that was because they were old college pals and she was stuck in Sunk Cost Fallacy and had rose-tinted glasses when it came to Cruella's red flags.

In a film, you can't spend time on pointless background stuff. A book has a lot more room to embellish, but a film has to keep to a certain length and things are left on the cutting-room floor if they don't actually progress the plot.

[And when Dodie Smith took the time to imagine all those details like the marble walls that look like raw meat, ice cream tasting like pepper, an ancestor with a tail, Nanny Cook and Nanny Butler, a burning bakery, Pongo, Missis and Perdita, the white cat with the drowned kittens or Harry de Vil taking his wife's name, it can be appreciated.]

Not in a film, it can't. That's all well and good for a series, but for a film it's just extra padding that's irrelevant and unnecessary, like if the Tangled movie showed us where Gothel went when she went outside and we got to see her getting parsnips from, I dunno, Old Corona? The Capital? Can parsnips be found in the wild? Whatever it is, we could've gotten a little moment of her getting them because why not, let's spend five minutes having Gothel pick up parsnips she'll never get to use, maybe have her passing by Flynn Rider's Wanted poster before we cut back to him waking up at the tower after being knocked out. But, no, let's a useless waste of time and also the parsnips are never used so why bother?

On that note, Rapunzel never got to have that hazelnut soup and it's never mentioned in the series at all even if it's supposed to be her favorite. This is an example of a Chekov's Gun that is never used, both in the movie and the series. Rapunzel never got to have that hazelnut soup despite it being mentioned twice in plot-related dialogue and her "favorite food" is never once mentioned in the series. That gun was never fired.

Anyways, all that about Cruella is interesting background info to add to a page-count in a story, but it's useless information in a movie. You can't expect any movie to have everything you love about the book version or you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.
