Went on a bit of a Google adventure this morning because the hanzi name for China is 中國 (Middle Kingdom) and then Duolingo started me on education terms and presented me with 中学校 (middle school). I wasn't entirely sure whether China even has the same education levels as us or if this was just a very literal translation (verdict: different terms used, but 中 is present), but I am aware that some Chinese American kids go to Chinese school to learn the language and culture. In Duolingo at least, to indicate Chinese cuisine they just write 中餐, not 中國餐, which made me wonder, would Chinese school also be 中学校? Could someone, at least someone working within the American school system, reasonably say that they need to leave 中学校 on time so they can go to 中学校?

The answer appears to be no because the website for our local Chinese school at least says 中文学校 (Chinese language school), but it was interesting to contemplate from a linguistic chaos perspective.

HC Tommy Kinard is secretly fluent in French. Buck is secretly fluent in the sect of conversational Spanish he learned in Peru. They don't understand a WORD of what the other is saying, it's just insanely hot being flirted with in a foreign language. Rereading let the devil in, an excellent founders era fic with accidental soulbond between Tobirama and Izuna, and after hearing Izuna once again complain he couldn't tell what his partner was feeling was struck by the powerful urge to give him Tobirama-style sensing tattoos.

But since this is Izuna, he insisted on them looking like eyeshadow.

This way, he can tell whenever Tobirama is feeling down AND look fabulous in battle even if he didn't have time to apply makeup! Truly an excellent idea :)

I’ve seen a couple of posts about people being hesitant and not really wanting new players joining the qsmp soon + more languages being added, and I understand, but the posts mostly seem to be made by English speaking people and I don’t think they understand how big of a deal this is for some people. The internet is really focused on anglophone creators to the point that if you’re bicultural and living in the US, you will never get recommended a channel that doesn’t speak English, despite English speaking channels getting recommended everywhere else. The trending tab is only filled with English speaking creators. You have never had a problem finding content that’s in your language. That’s not something you have to do. The fact that there might be French creators added to the qsmp is so exciting for me because I will finally have a starting point to discover French creators, I will finally be able to watch content that is in my language. The qsmp is bringing non English speaking creators into the orbit of English viewers and that is so cool. People have started watching the Spanish streamer despite not understanding most of what is being said, they’ve started learning Spanish because they want to be able to interact with the Spanish community. If people are trying to learn French/Portuguese/German they’re going to have access to creators who speak that language!!! I have faith in Quackity that he won’t make the introduction of new players overwhelming, this is going to be so sick.

One of my favorite qsmp things is when Foosh is with one of his kids teaching him more Spanish

You can see how hard he is trying and his lil teachers are always patient answering his questions and are so overjoyed when he gets it right

Also, these times straight up improve my Spanish too, teaching slang and language structure that makes me sound less like google translate lmao

Will you all forgive me if I suddenly start blogging about a corny german band i used to be crazy Obsessed with in a limited fashion every once in a while again actually I probably won't or barely will so don't worry but its because like suddenly was thinking about die ärzte again because the time ivy and I ran into bela b at a neubauten concert sort of half came up in a roundabout way in a completely unrelated conversation and suddenly I'm listening to them again and its making me feel insane because. Well okay they kinda really fell off lately and they were always a tiny bit embarrassing to begin with but also they will literally never not have a special place in my heart because literally the ENTIRE reason I started learning german was because I got into them and wanted to understand interviews well actually more specifically I remember it was because I couldn't find subtitles for richy guitar which i Desperately wanted to watch. Because what do you mean this band im just starting to get into made a movie with Nena 😭 And I will also always love that stupid movie because it then became a benchmark by which I could measure whether my german was improving because everytime I would rewatch it I could understand more and anyways. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have started learning German at all so they literally changed my life massively in that way but not only that but I met my lifelong best friend because of them who obviously i am still close with to this day because of them because we bonded on this website about both being americans learning german and being into this band and then we later by FUCKING SHEER COINCIDENCE happened to spend a year abroad at the same time in the same german city and reconnecting and thats still the most serendipitous thing that's ever happened to me and I love her to death so like . Thank you bela farin rod anyway I know nobody even knows what I'm on about but I never ever ever go back and revisit them but when I do I always feel so crazy because I'm just like Jesus christ. Anyways I'm just listening to the first album again rn and i was watching interviews last night and im like what am i doing. Is me methodically revisiting my huge obsessions from when I was a teenager i havent really thought about in years just continuing i guess so. I dont know why i keep getting compelled to do that. But whatever
