Florence Hamersley headcanons?
Hello! Idk if some of this will just be repeating stuff from Jolly Foul Play but anyway here's some headcanons:
- very angry a lot of the time- sports helps her vent some of her anger, that's why she likes it so much
-kind of reminds me a bit of Lavinia so possibly ADHD? Also could use sport as a way of using some energy
-very practical- could never understand Lettice fussing over hair and how she looks (still worried about her though)
- probably close to Una because it was her she met up with in Jolly Foul Play but I think she would be close to Margaret too. I now headcanon her as a lesbian (possibly Margaret/ Florence ? Absolutely no evidence but that's fiiine)
- I imagine her to have lived in a big country house, playing sports in the grounds.
- She HATES parties or balls or whatever because she has to wear dresses and make up and also they're very boring.
- Cuts her hair really short as soon as she moves out and her parents can't tell her what to do
- I think that she would feel more comfortable with herself during the war because women were taking on roles that were seen as more masculine and so she's not as confined to things that people thought of as feminine (possibly non- binary Florence?).
Thanks for the ask because I hadn't given her that much thought and now I've built up more of a person in my head, rather than one of the Five.

Una Dichmann headcanons?
ABSOLUTELY and sorry this took ages to answer I am Back At Work
Una Dichmann's secret was that her grandparents were Jewish, but her father was a high ranking nazi officer. I feel like there are 2 most obvious options for this - that either her father is undercover and a spy, or has sworn off his family? Also for your consideration, who's side of the family are the grandparents from? I don't remember JFP saying (but please correct me if I'm wrong!)
This of course is a dangerous secret for Elizabeth to have known, and actually another reason I subscribe to the headcannon that they were all genuinely true friends before Elizabeth went off the rails. I think Una trusted Elizabeth enough at some point to disclose she was Jewish, and maybe even the fact that she was worried for her grandparents in Germany. I imagine the fact her father was a high ranking nazi officer was common knowledge (and I believe it's explained in the books as being as such?)
This was a secret that had life threatening consequences for other people! Una must have been terrified and there's this bit in JFP that really sticks out to me is
"Oh, let them," said Florence's voice, snorting. "They can't hurt us."
"Yes they can," Una said. "If they knew-"
This bit is about the shrimps now that Elizabeth was dead, and none of the Five seem to realise that Una's secret could get people killed, rather than just humiliated. Also I reckon Florence thinks that if a shrimp told her secret, it would be brushed off as a jealous shrimp at best, while a shrimp finding out Una and her family are Jewish would have started powerful rumours, especially with the rise of antisemitism.
- Una's mother is never mentioned, but I don't want her dead so she's not going to be in these headcannons and I like to think the grandparents are on the mother's side of the family
- Una also has siblings, her sister is a year away from starting at Deepdean, and she has a brother in third form at Eton
- I imagine Una grew up in Germany as her father is in the nazi party and has high rank
- she and her family left Germany when she was 9, and they live in London. Her father was supposed to come with, but he didn't.
- the Dichmanns don't talk about him, even though Una thinks they should.
- while at Deepdean, Una falls in with Elizabeth pretty quick > they know they're both outsiders, even if noone says it to their faces, with Elizabeth's second hand clothing and Una's German accent
- because of this she and Elizabeth become quite close
- Una gets quite good at swimming and competes in galas and all sorts
- this in fact sort of bridges the gap between Elizabeth and the rest of the Five, as Una is decent at sports and so pals up with Florence
- and then Lettice and Margaret and Enid warm to them both too
- Una tries, very much like Hazel, to fit in with the mucking up of her things and it works to gel her with the other girls.
- soon she knows Elizabeth has been collecting secrets on them all, but she'd been naïve enough to think that because hers was so serious, it'd be left alone.
- what makes Una so frightened isn't the fact that Elizabeth knows her secret, but the fact it's all a game to her. To Elizabeth, it's cruel, yes, and a way of wielding power, but Una sometimes feels like her life is in Elizabeth's hands.
- Margaret is the only one who seems to understand the gravity of both of their secrets, and while Una won't let Margaret touch her, or meet her eye after finding out her secret, they form a sort of alliance
- the feeling of hostage doesn't go away with her death, and she is only glad that Enid murdered her before Una was forced to
- Una is the only one of the Five not to be horrified by Enid's actions > the rest of them are relieved, and glad Elizabeth is dead, of course, but that doesn't translate into supporting Enid's course of action
- but also she's the only one not to visit her in prison
- Una thinks if she looks Enid in the eye, she might see her reflection.
- during the war, Una becomes Deepdean's school nurse, and good but tentative friends with Kitty.
- she works her way up the ranks, until she's headmistress and tries and fights and tries to make Deepdean a Better Place everyday
- a girl named Pearl with a familiar surname enters Deepdean's doors (dayboarder only) and a mother even more familiar comes to every swimming gala her daughter completes in
- Lettice and Una catch each other's eye too many times and spend too much time in each other's company
- Lettice becomes Una's 'informal educational advisor' (they're lesbians)
