Edit 1: ONLY @urcrookedneighbor was active in 2010. This is great!
(I was on Tumblr some time this year, but I only sent asks and mail for the next two. So, I'm not here yet.)
Edit 2: 2012 has added @tabithian, @nocek, @comickergirl, @jayrockin, @angel-gidget, @wakandas, @thechekhov, @storiesintheashes, AND @specialagentartemis.
This is a functional dash! (I was posting by August of 2012, but not frequently enough to show up in the first 10 pages.)
Edit 3: We've now added @dragonpyre, @plotbunny-bundle, @dedalvs, @terpsikeraunos, @fashionsfromhistory, @ycantithinkofsomething, @brittababbles, @floppergostic, @satire-please, @xplainthexmen, @galaxystew, and @lazy-duck.
Also, I'VE shown up!
This is still unacceptable, since @whetstonefires's sister has not yet allowed her on Tumblr, but it's getting pretty close!
-
I won't be updating with 2020. That is pretty much yesterday. But this was fun!
Other enjoyable things:
SO MUCH SUPERNATURAL.
Dash still has a lot of Batman, because I followed you guys for reasons
Firefly posts
Fic from people who I still follow, but haven't written in the last 10 years. Exciting!
I had forgot how much y'all posted about Arthur!
dash is dead im teleporting to the past

How do you feel about tapioca? I've never had the pudding, but I like the boba in milk tea.
I enjoy the randomness of this! I’ve actually had tapioca pudding but not bubble tea (I want to try it, though!), so I’m in the opposite boat from you. It’s not bad? I kind of like the chewy texture and how you can use it to contrast with creamy things. I assume that’s part of the appeal of bubble tea, too.
It’s not one of my favorite foods or anything, but it’s pretty good.

Borage! (Random fact about your childhood)
TW: gross/mildly graphic
I liked playing with dead mice that my dad would catch in the garage or shed. He would take them out of the traps when they were still squishy (but not warm) and let me put on gloves and poke sticks at them and one time a mole had ripped off the back half of the mouse after it was already in the trap right above where the stomach would have been. I was able to unhinge it’s jaw enough to jam a smaller stick into it’s mouth and satisfyingly shoved it down its throat until the stick came out the intestine on the other side. I was probably about 8 and I thought it was the greatest thing. Looking back my dad was disgusted by it but congratulated me on my creativity.

Explain Twitter to someone from 2019
Twitter is where sanity goes to die. With Facebook as a close second and Tumblr sliding in at third.

Hmm. I like this one from the notes:
"Let me in" is scarier. "Let me out" is more horrifying.

Okay all this Homestuck talk has me curious: did the post-retcon make you hate Vriska as much as it made me hate Vriska? Because before the retcon, I felt pretty neutral-to-positive about her, but post-retcon...hooooooo boy would I be ever so happy if I never had to read another word she said. Or acknowledge her existence in any way.
this ask is like an ICBM expertly programmed to ensure the ugliest possible consequences of its payout regardless of how I answer, what I say, the words I use, the qualifiers I put before it, the disclaimers I put after it and all the combinations of reasonal logical prose and personal heartfelt anecdote I could possibly muster given an infinite amount of time and space to do so in so lets just say we don’t talk about vriska on this blog ever and leave it at that.

@floppergostic had a similar suggestion! May be of limited help with some of the dead languages I love, but I can definitely see it working for something like Cree. I know my son will come home singing songs he learned in school and I'll excitedly recognize words.
(We live on lands the Cree and Ojibwe originally cared for, and our schools are TRYING to acknowledge that.)
I've mostly given up trying to actually learn languages, rather than just collect information about them and put it into charts. But I still have a longing.
See, I struggle to recall exact information. I'm GREAT with general information - patterns, approximations, trends. But I can't remember the specifics - exact dates, locations, words.
In my mother tongue (English), I deal with this by having an extremely large vocabulary. If I can't remember 'curtain', I still might be able to make 'drapes', 'blinds', or 'valence' fit, depending on the circumstances. If I can't remember a family member's name, I can cycle through relatives' names until I find the correct one, or call them by their relationship to me.
I don't know how to construct that web of words in another language. I have to start with a tiny pool, and my brain gets frustrated with throwing constant 'object not found' errors. Language learning material doesn't start by teaching me all the synonyms for various furniture, or clothes, or whatever. It's just this one little word, all alone, with nothing to contrast it with.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could learn?
(Not of the 'just push through it' variety. Sometimes I have to resort to texting or charades to communicate basic info to my husband. All you'll accomplish is discouraging me.)

floppergostic replied to your post: Tumblr censored your last post, can you please...
I voted “not sensitive” when I came across it, so hopefully that should help? Although I’m just one person, of course.
thank you!!

I've never heard of there being an alphabetical order, but it's been over 10 years since I officially learned any linguistics, so...
-
I hadn't either, but I hoped! Eventually, I thought, 'why don't I just sort in Word and see what happens'. But an abomination happened, so that's out.
'ð' was in the middle of the various 'd' shaped stops and implosives.
'χ', 'θ', and 'β' were at the very end (since they don't have Latin Unicode variants, and are counted as a separate language.)
'ɤ' is with 'ɣ' instead of the 'a's.
All the 'l's are together, except 'ꞎ' (belted retroflex, if you don't have a font that supports the character), and the lateral flaps, which are all mixed in with the 'r's.
All the clicks EXCEPT 'ʘ' are before 'a', but 'ʘ' is at the end.
'ɯ' and 'ɰ' are with 'm'. 'ɔ' is with 'c'. 'ʎ' is with 'y'. I'd prefer them to be with the sounds they're related to, but I could accept things being entirely shape-dependant. Which just makes 'β', 'ꞎ', and 'χ' more frustrating, since they AREN'T!
It's bad, and I'm designing my own order to soothe myself.
Search engines are failing me, again.
Okay, linguists, is there an official alphabetical order for the IPA?
I know it's usually ordered by places and manners of articulation. But is there an recognized order when you need to add things to dictionaries?

14 and 49 for the Valentine's questions, if you haven't already answered them!
Thanks for asking!
14. favorite candle scent?
I used to have this vanilla pound cake-scented candle which smelled ridiculously like the real thing and absolutely AMAZING. The only downside is it smelled so delicious, you’d literally want to eat it! :-P
49. hand kisses or nose kisses?
BOTH! Why choose? I think hand kisses are more, kind of classically romantic? And nose kisses are more cute. But they’re both incredibly sweet and tender and intimate.
