By the way, thanks to Hoopla, I read the 12-issue run of The Flintstone by Mark Russell. A few notes:

not the "satirist." Which I not because Sean grew up very different than me in some ways.

If you want goofy, fun, pun-filled Flintstones, this is NOT your book.

If you want "What if we took this seriously as the first civilization but also puns", then this IS your book.

If you don't like animals being harmed, SKIP IT. The animals are as sentient as in the cartoon but also KNOW IT and DON'T HAVE A GOOD ANSWER FOR IT.

ONE OF THEM DIES.

LEAVE ME ALONE OKAY.

Wilma is an artist who is routinely mocked until Werner Herrzrock shows up to ask her to help make a movie.

The "women baring it all on film" movies are chick flicks.

Pebbles and Bam-Bam are perfect teenagers but especially perfect 2016 teenagers (when the book came out).

The Great Gazoo stops the Homeowners Association from killing all humans by a trick.

Lots of discussion of "have versus want versus need".

The running religion throughout the book ends with--not stated but made clear--the Flintstones are Jewish.

This commissioned piece features Batman, Superman, Animaniacs, Homer and Bart Simpson, Fred Flintstone, Powerpuff Girls, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, Daffy Duck, and Bugs Bunny, who is signing an autograph for Bubbles (this would have been Bugs' 75th birthday year).
