SIFFREN CLOAK POST TIME BBY.
Tl;dr: In my opinion the backstiching on Siffrin's cloak is used to reinforce the seams, the cloak likely has a lining flatlined into the cloak, and if you'll allow me to offer a headcannon, hand sewn.
More in depth analysis and examples below
Ok to start, let's go over Isabeau's dialog about the cloak. I'll put it in full here, other characters comments are cut out.
So right here, right, that's super interesting stitching. It's backstitching, right, which is a very solid kind of stitching, and it's used in a lot of different places... But Vaugardian clothing in general is moving away from backstitching, because, well, we think it's boring. Like here, my clothing here has something called chainstitching, and also it's in a zigzag shape, because it looks cuter I guess. But backstitching is just more durable. Now that I look at it, your hat has the same stitching too... I wonder if they were a set? And, um, look at the way the cloak is weaved, too! It's wool, and it goes one thread up, one thread down, et cetera... But, again, Vaugardian clothing likes to be more interesting visually, so if you look at Mira's cloak--
...
No, no, I'm not saying it's boring!!!!! I'm just saying it's like... It's clothing that's less like Vaugarde, or even Ka Bue's artistic clothing... It's less clothing that's to make you look pretty, or make you stand out, and more clothing that's here to keep you comfy and warm. Function over form, you know?
So, um, what I'm SAYING is... Considering the Craft that came into it... The temperature regulation and how it grows with you... Whoever gave you this cloak wanted to make sure you're gonna be nice and comfy for a long time, Sif!
Note: I'm not a tailor, I've made a few garments and I embroder but that's about it. Take everything with a grain of salt.
Alright, first what is he even talking about? Here's a quick example of the two stitches Isabeau mentioned and a running stich which is probably the most basic stich
Tumblr media
Please ignore my inability to sew in a straight line. Also my horrid chain stich. I did not do it justice there so here's a better example of how it looks
Tumblr media
we can ignore Isabeau's incorrect opinions on what qualifies as an interesting stich bc he's probably talking more about the cultural differences between Siffrin's cloak and Vaugardian clothing. Which I'll admit IS intresting. But what stuck out to me is the fact that Isabeau can see the stitching at all. Most garments hide the majority of their stitching. You can see the seams sure, but the atual stichwork is typically on the inside.
Tumblr media
As you can see here, now that IS a cloak, and the seem hides the stichwork, the next option is that isabeau is looking at either the hem or the collar, i dout it's the collar just bc that's really close to Sif's neck/face and also bc it might not have any visible stitching either. The hem line is a possibility but if Siffrin's cloak has a lineing it might not show any visible stitching either.
Atually let's talk about lineings real quick. I imagen Siffrin's cloak has one, for several reasons, I think it'd be cool, I think it'd work with the idea that the cloak is designed to survive a LONG time becuase it reinforces and protects the garment, and it works with some fun headcannons i have. Here's an example of a lined cloak, the outside is the shiny later, the inside has the hand-embroidered stars. I'm focusing on the seems in thease pictures but a lined cloak might hide ALL its stiches including the hems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although that's IF the cloak is bag lined, which is a process that leaves the lineing and the outside as mostly separate layers. You basically sew two garments then stich them together at the edges. But i have a feeling Siffrin's cloak is flat lined, not bag lined, so you basically attach the lineing to the outside and sew it together like it's one peice of fabric, the lineing dosnt move as much and honestly it comes out a little nicer. So that means the stichwork would still be visible on the inside of the cloak AND the hem, but I have a feeling Isa wasn't just holding Siffrin's cloak inside out to show off the stitching, and i don't think he was talking about the hem because it's not really a load bearing structure if that makes sense and it seems to me like Isa is talking about something that would benefit from being reinforced. So what's he talking about.
Well look at this
Tumblr media
There we go! Visable stitching on the outside of a garment!!! So what's the difference here? A couple of things but the best summary I have is: the seem is reinforced by being stiched down. Here's an example on a different garment.
Tumblr media
To test this, I grabbed some scrap fabric and tried it out i also did a quick hem with a backstich just to see how it'd look. I used contrasting thread to make it visable
Tumblr media
I also think Siffrin's cloak is a full circle cloak constructed with two halves sewn together like the bottom example here
Tumblr media
This is generally eaiser to construct than a four piece version and atually HAS seems unlike a single pice verdhion. Admittedly it may be a challenge depending on the width of the fabric, although if it was made when Sif was a kid and Crafted to grow with him that's much less of an issue
So! That's my two cents on the stitching on Siffrin's cloak. Honestly I would LOVE to make a Siffrin cloud but fabric is expensive and I can't really afford it, i also don't have the time. For now I should focous on finishing the star cloak I showed earlier, incase anyones curious here's the full inside of that cloak as of now
Tumblr media
Here's some other headcannons related to fabric and sewing.
First sewing macheens and other textile production macheens exist. I know isat is a veaugly fantasy historical style setting but I'll die on the hill that there's some sort of quicker way to produce textiles, primarily because fabric, fiber and clothing has historically been massively important and I have a hard time imaging that craft isn't capable of making fabric quicker.
Related to that, I think part of the reason Crafted clothing (like Sif's stuff) is more rare is becuase it has to be hand made. Maybe not hand spun and woven and sewn but in my head the more steps you do by hand the more it's Crafted.
In that veign I think Siffrin's contry has a tendency twards hand-made stuff. There are reasons for this but it's mostly vibes. Honestly I think all of isat puts a higher emphasis on arts and crafts than the real world but I like the idea that Sif's contry espechally focuses on the hand made, it makes sense with the whole ritual thing, there are plenty of rituals and superstitions arround hand-made goods.
In contrast Vaugarde trends twards evolution of techniques and technology, where someone from Siffrin's contry may be a master at an ancient technique that's been passed down for generations, a Vaugardian crafter will have developed their own unique style and often prioritizes astetics above convince, not to the point of it being low quality (like fast fashion) but more like "I decided to use two diffrent fabrics to make stripes insted of just one solid color fabric even though it's more work becuase it looks cool" Ka Bue has a heavy focous on tradition but also artistic vision, i kinda imagen it as the ballance between the two ends of the spectrum, but in a totally different way.
Next i think Siffrin's contry likes incorporating subtle decorations, like the hat with the stars on the lineing, or useing visable stitching on seams both to reinforce it and bc it's prity--sewing in a straight line is HARD, doing a backstich with consistent stichlenghts is harder, doing both by hand is impressive, having the stitching appear on the outside of the cloak would be a deliberate choice becuase you CAN just reinforce a seem on the inside of a garment. Admittedly that might be what's going on if we assume Isabeau is looking at the internal construction insted of any vidable stichwork. So yeah, function over form but with some subtle detailing.
Is this just an excuse for me to pretend that the lineing of Siffrin's cloak is hand embroidered with stars? Yes! But you can pry this headcanon out of my cold, dead hands! I love hand embroidered stars on the inside of a cloak, i literally own a cloak that i made that's like that!! (I'll finish it one day I swair! I just made a mistake and attached the lineing b4 I did the embrodery, like an idiot, and it's really annoying to work on!!)
One last thing I think is interesting is the use of the word "cloak" cloaks typically go over the shoulders and CAN close in the frount, but are still open. I'd describe Sif's cloak more as a poncho, and Mira's cloak as a shawl, but there really arnt any perfict words for every garment, so cloak is a good enough word. It'd also make sense if "cloak" is just the word for "outer layer garment that goes over the shoulders like that" in the world of isat.

"The ringing bells? Oh, that's me! ... too loud?" ✨🌸🔔🧚‍♂️
Oh my gosh I'm so happy with how Silverbell cookie turned out!! I've been working on him for a good long while (longer than lagombi believe it or not!) I had to custom layer all of the suiting fabric with a sheer flatlining and he used at least 120 flowers! I can't even begin to think of the rhinestone count...he for sure holds the title as the sparkliest costume I've made which is.....saying something 😵‍💫

foam on this project was from Coscom Cosplay Supplies! I also used their primer on the bow and it twas 👌 v nice

Hello!! breakdown of Choir Cosplay!! This is not really gonna be a step by step but a general vibe of what I did to make this cosplay :) To note: I haven’t sewn anything since I was in highschool which was 8 years ago, so a lot of this is like a ‘ya that works’ - make improvements where I could not :p Overall I wanted the cosplay to not be an exact copy of what is in game, personally I prefer more fitted clothing so I went close to my size with the pattern. Fabric: I used an ivory polycotton, ivory satin and black cotton. 1. I started hunting for a pattern that at least captured the vibe of the choir garb. I had split up the garment in my head into 3 separate parts: The base, the capelet, all the extra fancy bits. The big concern when picking fabric is I didn’t want the garment to be translucent, which is a problem for lighter coloured fabric. BUT!! I found that I didn’t have to make a lining and could instead flatline the fabric - where you cut double the piece and stitch them flat against each other - making it both thicker and opaque!
Flatlining tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N-qdP9tcc4&pp=ygUSZmxhdCBsaW5pbmcgc2V3aW5n
I found this pattern by Gunnar Deatherage on Etsy (as a beginner I loved this pattern, it’s very in depth and easy to follow)
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1270370974/maxi-duster-wrap-pattern-instant?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=gunnar+deatherage&ref=sr_gallery-1-14&pro=1&sts=1&dd=1&content_source=95a164c411331c5aaff8fee029dee1e6377d3f92%253A1270370974&search_preloaded_img=1&organic_search_click=1
I did not use the sleeve pattern from it, instead I made my own to have the right fall and size.
Tumblr media
Use the sleeve cap from the pattern so it can attach correctly to the bodice/back pieces - then where the sleeve starts to become longer draw out diagonally on both sides. For length I used the original pattern and went slightly longer! :) I used the same pattern for the peplum sorta top section and again for the skirt on the bottom. It creates a stitch line along the front but it’ll be covered by the belt!
Tumblr media
I bought this embroidered ribbon and attached it around the edges of the garment! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/840215852/35-mm-golden-victorian-jade-jacquard?click_key=2c042e9416627d9bf9d2f1e85385ba93e48ca464%3A840215852&click_sum=1fe453a7&ref=shop_home_active_1&sts=1  Corset/rolled sleeves: I did this last Corset pieces: Cut out 4 pieces (twice) - and attach them together leaving the end open to turn them inside out. Use a grommet tool and punch some holes through your fabric - make sure they line up. Roll the sleeves to roughly where your inner elbow is and attach another piece of fabric around the width of the roll - pin it in place. Hand sew the corset pieces on and the other piece of fabric so it is all secure :) Thread some similar coloured lacing to the fabric through the holes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. The belt! (My mum helped me a lot on this and was my voice of reason) Originally I had bought an elasticated belt with a clasp, but it didn't work at all and ruined the fall of the garment.
I chopped off the end of the belt, leaving me with some elasticated ‘fabric’ and the clasp. Measured my waist and cut out a thick piece of fabric twice and one piece of iron on interfacing. The measurement I did with the base on and added slightly more for both seam allowance and so there was breathing room for myself. Put the clasp piece on either end of the fabric and sew it all together! :)  (marks are from the paint of the chain rubbing off onto the fabric :P)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. The caplet!  For the capelet I used this tutorial                           Easy DIY Capelets | For Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas🎃🍂🎄          (The only issue with this is I couldn’t get my head around how to attach a non circle collar) Ivory polycotton + Ivory satin used. Doing the base of this is pretty straightforward with the tutorial - it’s just a circle skirt but for your neck. If you want to be evil to yourself, you can do what I did and hand sew bridal applique all around the garment. If you can machine sew it please do :p I went for a big swooping shaped applique in ivory - any gaps I had were filled with more applique  https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/628065500/beaded-sequinned-lace-flower-wedding?click_key=d8b4937d8079ab34b301cf2d4dc7fbd0d6ede960%3A628065500&click_sum=81fb49a9&ref=shop_home_recs_1 I used poppers on the base and the cape to attach them together - it kept choking me if i didn’t  4. The collar - made me want to cry ngl I could not figure out for the life of me how to attach a non circle collar to the capelet (which is how I wanted it). Instead we have a removable collar!! I copied the size of collar from one of my own shirts and followed these tutorials                           TWO PIECE COLLAR TUTORIAL | KIM DAVE                                     How to Sew a Collar and Collar Stand Easily by Sew Sew Live     5. Graduation hood???? For some reason you can’t just buy these in the UK without paying £30, so I made my own Cut out double for the pieces around your neck and one for the ‘hood’ part Gather the ends of the rectangular piece and attach them to the other pieces!
Tumblr media
6. The Fancy back panel piece Measure from mid shoulder blade to the bottom of the garment for the main rectangular piece. Cut out two other rectangles of the same width coming into an arrow shape. Sew them all together and start sketching on the design. The great thing here is you can make it up, because it’s too complicated and nobody is gonna look at it and be like ‘u did it wrong’ I used a fabric medium and gold metallic acrylic
Tumblr media
Once it’s all done, I machine sewed it to the back of the base garment because it’s hidden by the cape.  7. THE REST Chain: Me and the chain belt had a fight - Originally I used metal chain,, but I’m allergic to some metal and can’t deal with the smell,, I switched to a plastic chain with 2 D Ring clasps - had to sand it down but the gold spray paint loves to flake off. If I knew about it before, I’d use EVA foam chain :) Black pieces underneath: I bought a turtle neck and a long black skirt :P but you could make it as a dress or smth! Purchased long black velvet gloves, a pocket watch and a key necklace (I didn’t want to use a censer - and they are v expensive/idk how to make one) Ribbon + brooch: I bought chunky soft blue ribbon and found a vintage brooch on vinted
Tumblr media
The mask: If you have contacts you’d probably be fine, but I don’t and this mask messed with my depth perception and balance so I had to take it off so I could wear my glasses :(
Use buckram plastic mesh - the thicker kind, used for fursuit eyes and in black! You can see out but nobody can see in. I made a mock up with paper but sorta looks like this shape :)
Tumblr media
Eva foam pieces cut out into swirls and filigree like shapes, glue it onto the buckram I did a base coat in grey over the entire thing and painted it with black, gold and bronze acrylic! I hole punched and put the ribbon through it so the mask could be tied around my head.
Tumblr media
If you’re making the mask and hat - I’d attach the mask to the hat so it’s one piece :)  Where I went wrong/what I’d improve I wish I had been able to attach the collar to the rest of the garment. There is a gap that appears between the collar and the caplet/base at the back (mainly due to gravity and it moving) that can be annoying, since my hair is on the longer side it was covered but still I wish it wasn’t there. I’d also want a bigger collar! I’d not use satin as a lining for the skirt and capelet - it’s so annoying to use and it’s so slippery Maybe would not hand sew all that applique because it took me over a week :P  BUT OVERALL for a first cosplay, it’s pretty good! I’m mostly happy with the outcome and it was one of my dream ones to do! :) I hope this helps, I didn’t take photos of all the steps unfortunately but hopefully it makes sense :)

another tptm oc! this one is named moustrap girl/janet. her song was initially about how she was frustrated with people walking all over her and taking advantage of her shyness and generally mousey behavior, but now i want to make it about how she's affected by cringe culture (which primarily targets marginalized people) and is harassed for her interests or for being the way she is. idk maybe i could make it about both somehow. she'd be voiced by macne petit and she is primarily based on fictional mice, primarily Jan from The Devil and Daniel Mouse. She's also sorta Rocky Horror inspired. she's also a therian and otherkin. :o3c
her sleeve opacity is 23% on firealpaca and her freckles are the firealpaca particle brush. the symbol on her mousetrap earrings is supposed to be a heart monitor flatlining (like the mouse bait brand). her mouse parts aren't real, they're just part of her cosplay since she's also a furry. she's also supposed to have a ponytail.

I want the DickBats era to come back, Not like Dick being Batman but I just want all the characters to do new things, they’ve been running the drain the last few years it’s time to break the law. Dick and Barbara can do whatever they’re doing in Bludhaven, Damian can go on another spirit quest with Flatline, Steph can be a politician or something,Tim can break up with his milk toast boyfriend, and duke can become a god, I think it’d be funny. And Cass should cosplay Batman, she could do it, just hologram her bigger.

I’m the anon who mentioned just the other day I love JK and miss him but am overwhelmed with everything else so it’s ok that he’s taking a break.
Then the bomb of Hobi’s folio dropped and I, a feeble woman who had an elf phase, collapsed.
Then… then user agustd gave us a taste of what shower yoongi is. For me things got real hazy here, I was fading fast.
and if that wasn’t enough… the knock knock….. and then FOUR HOURS to end the Jeon drought (feat. Bam, Taehyung, Namjoon in chat). Flatlined.
anyways, just checking back in from the other side. 🤣
hahaha anon they don't give any of us a second to recover. we may as well just stay on the floor, cause that's where we're gonna end up anyway?
ANYHOO sounds like you summoned thee jeon jungkook because that man had nothing but time today. all he wanted to do was sing, flirt and run his hands through his luscious hair (not necessarily in that order).
i'm really dying to know what yoongi is up to with these photos. @augustbutwinter pointed out to the GC that they're all being posted on the first of the month and there are no coincidences in min yoongi's world. curious what he's got up his sleeve? (maybe a 7 tattoo not that we'll ever see it 😤 )
but you know what? you came to this page so you know who i have to wrap with:
let's talk about jung hoseok and his 15 different personalities, shall we?
he gave us pyro hoseok in the spirit of arson and JITB:
Tumblr media
this mad max - westworld hoseok with the snatched waist to end all snatched waists:
Tumblr media
this medieval times cast member from the year 2030 hoseok who may or may not be on the run from police based on the chopper light shining down on him:
Tumblr media
and finally ... jegolas? hegolas? legojung? let me get back to you on this one:
Tumblr media
LOOK AT ME IN THE FACE when i tell you that under no circumstances would i have ever -- EVER -- believed that i would find jung hoseok in a lavender wig doing david bowie cosplay hot.
and yet here i am, fam 🥴
i'm still in recovery from this morning's video and stills drops. you can always count on hobi to push the envelope with his image, music, style. hot damn i love his [redacted] brain.

I'm so excited!! My friend just invited me to a theme party and the theme is 'dress up as something you love'. And she said characters were okay. So I'll try to do my best 12 impression 😍
12 bc sonic shades are the easiest to recreate and because his clothes aren't too out there. Plus I want to either be the Doctor or the TARDIS bc they represent the show best. And out of the two the Doctor is easier to recreate I think. And I can wear a sweater and try to build my own flatline TARDIS :D and carry around two picture frames of River and Susan 🥰
... maybe I can even find an inflatable guitar somewhere :)
I've never been to a convention so this will be me living my cosplay dreams 😂
Omg this is so cool!!! 12 is a great choice, he's the most fashionable Doctor with a lot of cool outfits. Although imo 11 us the easiest to cosplay, bc you just need skinny jeans, a vaguely brown tweed jacket, a bow tie and a fez. But 12 is so much more fun, i love all the little accessories you came up with (my only concern is: how many hands do you have to carry all that? Haha)
The idea if dressing up as the TARDID made me think of this GLORIOUS image that i came across while researching for a fic, and i want to share it with you:

Breakdown of how I crafted this cosplay under the cut ⬇️
Horns:
This is definitely the part of the cosplay that looks the most “Fig” and what I got the most questions about. I utilized the Miss Twisted tutorial.
Before I got started I looked at a reference photo of Fig to get the basic shape:
Tumblr media
On paper, I sketched a shape and literally held up the paper to my head, making notes of the adjustments needed, rinse and repeat until satisfied.
Tumblr media
I traced the pattern on to insulation foam, then cut with a box cutter. Using the box cutter to make clean cuts was very difficult and time consuming, and if I were to work with insulation foam again, I would invest in a hot wire cutter. Once I finished with the shape, wearing proper PPE, I sanded the foam with a 60 grit sandpaper. Insulation foam doesn’t sand very cleanly, but it was good enough for me. Insulation foam is super lightweight, so if someone desired very clean and lightweight results, you could make an insulation foam core, and cover with a smoother material.
Using toothpicks and scrap insulation foam as a base, I added multiple layers of modge podge to seal the foam, then painted with acrylic paint. I have a traditional art background, so the painting process came intuitively to me. Black paint and white paint blend to ugly grays, so I have used burnt umber and yellow ochre tones to help transition the 2 contrasting colors. The paint job was sealed using an acrylic gloss spray in a well ventilated area.

The secret to getting these to stick to my forehead is latex and spirit gum! (obviously don’t do this if you have a latex allergy) I very carefully poured a small amount of liquid latex from Kryolan to the base of horn (where it would attach to my forehead) and let dry. Spirit gum holds very well to latex, and because the insulation foam is so light weight, these horns can hold on for a full convention day!
Wig:
Based on the image reference, Fig has brown hair with green undertones, and a purple streak in her bangs. The best I could find for the brown color was the Nyx wig in Matcha Brown from Epic Cosplay Wigs. For her streak I purchased Weft Extensions in the color Dark Plum.
Before doing any of the styling, I tried on the wig and used alligator clips to section the parts of the wig that would be used for the bangs, face framing bits, and the back section of hair for the braid. This is useful if your actual head is not the same size as your mannequin head. For the purple streak, I removed wefts from the sectioned bangs were I wanted the streak to go, then sewed on the Dark Plum wefts, matching the section I removed. You can also use tacky glue for this, because tacky glue bends when dry. I like the start from the bottom and work my way up.

Wig styling is not my forte, there are much better tutorials out there to teach these techniques. I fake it till I make it 😅

Gloves and spike bracelets:
Tumblr media
Fingerless gloves were made from scrap black stretch fabric from my stash.
My material of choice for the bracelets would be leather. I do not have the resources or skills to work with leather (but would love to learn!), and I despise faux leather from a sustainability standpoint (it disintegrates so quickly!!)
As a workaround to make some sturdy enough to support the weight of the spikes was I flatlined black denim with some leftover cotton twill in my stash. The dimensions of the rectangle was the length: [circumference of my wrist + a few extra inches for seam allowance and overlap] x width [desired width of the bracelet multiplied by 3]. The length’s edges were folded over by the seam allowance, then the width was then folded in thirds to a long rectangle where only the black denim was visible. This was sewn into place using a heavy duty denim needle. I marked where I wanted my spikes to go, and used an X-Acto knife to cut holes at the mark. I attached 1-inch screw on spikes at the holes. To finish up, sew on snaps were added to the overlapping portion to create a bracelet! Sew on snaps aren’t the sturdiest method of attachment, so if I were to redo these, I would use something a bit more heavy duty.
Skirt:
I used the same pattern as my Chrissy Cunningham skirt (which is just a slightly modified version of the pleated tennis skirt from NH patterns)

Items already in my wardrobe:
Band T-shirt (my Weezer tee from high school fit Fig’s vibe the best)
Belt
Socks and shoes (I don’t have any full body pictures, I just used some black knee high socks and black combat boots
Elf ears (Moon Elf from Aradani)
Chain necklace
Fangs (from Scarecrow)
I’m always happy to answer any questions or clarify anything that could be explained better!

I forgot to get any full body pictures of my Fig cosplay at SDCC yesterday, so all I have are these overly edited bathroom selfies 🤟 I had a ton of fun at the TAZ live show, Brennan Lee Mulligan was DM’ing! I met an Adaine and even a Gilear there! 🖤
