I was thinking of how Keefe always flinches whenever a telepath reaches to touch his forehead and realized that it’s probably because he’s an empath and skin-to-skin contact makes him feel a person’s emotions

That got me thinking of how Keefe likely isn’t a very touchy person since he probably doesn’t want to be feeling everyone’s emotions all the time

But then, with Sophie he’s always grabbing her hand, tucking her hair behind her ear, leaning in real close, brushing eyelashes off of her cheeks

And in Nightfall, when Sophie realizes he feels her emotions stronger than others and she tries to back away, Keefe tells her she’s worth it

Instead of being annoyed by her loud emotions, Keefe is able to understand her when even she can’t understand herself sometimes. He’s able to tell when she’s not doing well and can say whatever it is she needs to hear, or even crack the perfect jokes to make her feel better

This got kinda long but all that to say, I really really love how much he cares about her

Sophie, beginning in Neverseen and slowly in increasing amounts begins to pick up Keefe’s way of speaking/his form of snarkiness/his style of humor because she spends a TON of time around him and our speech patterns are influenced by those around us. Also, she got older and more confident, so a lot of her shyness melted away. But she is the girl she’s always been—just a lot more confident and making a lot more of the same style of jokes as one of her closest relationships. That is way more realistic than y’all give it credit for

Shannon makes me depressed. For a child’s book KOTLC is like really depressing. Which is crazy because people are blowing up Shannon’s DM’s with “you created gay people who could you?!” Meanwhile before that a child blew up in 12 different directions

THE LAST PARAGRAPH. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. i’m a flashback defender to the end and that is basically exactly what the book is.

flashback is a step back from all the action to really get to know Sophie and Fitz, since they’re so different from the beginning of the series. it was also important for Sophie to learn to SLOW DOWN and that she doesn’t have to have everything riding on her shoulders, and also learn to use her other skills.

it was also a break for us as readers, since the plot is so crazy and fast and layered that it can be hard to keep up sometimes. it was fun! it was cute! like op said, i’m a diehard sokeefe shipper and i really enjoyed all the sofitz stuff!

if the pacing of flashback wasn’t your thing that’s totally fine, you don’t have to like it. but don’t go saying that it was objectively a bad book because it’s not your personal preference.

I forgot to mention, I finished Flashback a couple days ago. I know Im taking forever but Im not really a frequent reader.

Final thoughts…

It wasn’t that bad tbh

I personally enjoyed it

But it definitely spent too much time on the med bay and they barely had time to develop the rest of the story

The Sophitz was cute (even though I prefer Sokeefe, I can appreciate the cute moments)

I see Flashback as that one filler episode in every show. Not really as interesting as the lore eps, but kinda necessary for development

cracking up forever and always at the way sophie always describes alvar as "hot, but not as hot as fitz and biana"

i have a headcannon that after fitz tells sophie abt the chandelier incident, she teases him relentlessly for it. to the point where she makes all kinds of chandelier jokes (calling him “chandelier boy”, saying he’s “not the brightest bulb in the chandelier”, etc.) and biana joins in sometimes.

eventually it escalates to the point that one day, when sophie and fitz walk into a room with a chandelier, she gasps loudly, puts an arm out in front of him (almost in a protective manner) and points to the chandelier and says “watch your head!”

fitz is beyond annoyed, sophie thinks its hilarious, sandor and grizel are chuckling, it’s great. it’s so great that she continues to do this

until one day, fitz and sophie walk into a room with stairs and fitz sees his opportunity. he gasps loudly, puts an arm out in front of sophie protectively, points to the stairs, and says “watch your step!”

fitz is so proud of himself for getting back at sophie. she pretends to be annoyed but secretly finds it kind of funny. she makes less chandelier jokes from then on (she still makes them, don’t get me wrong, but not to the extent that she used to).

okay but keefe's mother never telling him she loved him and then one day he hears her tell tam "I love my son" vehemently as a THREAT and it's the first time Keefe has EVER heard the words and she's using them to tell Tam she might KILL him
