Flame of Autumn - Chapter 25 Epilogue

Part 26/26 | Ao3
[Thank you all so much for your words of kindness and support while I wrote and posted this fic. As someone new to writing, having you here with me was everything. Your interactions mean the world to me, and I hope you all loved Tilly and Eris as much as I do. The art is from the absolutely incredible @VFisch on IG. She is open for commissions and absolutely LOVELY. ] Epilogue
Four Years Later
“Kieran, wait please!”
The boy was off like a shot, tearing wildly out of the front doors of the Forest House and out into the lawn, the troupe of dogs bursting out behind him like a cloud of smoke and fur. Eris trotted after him, Tilly following slightly behind. The sun was bright, and the air was warm for Autumn, the scent of sun-warmed pine needles permeating the air as the leaves swirled on the wind around them.
“Dada! I can climb!” Kieran was already scaling up the stone wall near the training rings, taking careful but quick steps as he danced around the half circle, his mop of bright red curls flopping into his eyes. Eris was transported to a similar scene in his mind of another small redhead dancing around a crumbling stone wall once upon a time. He couldn’t help his smile as Tilly snaked her hand around his arm and leaned her head against him.
“You climb so well, buddy!” Eris shielded his eyes from the sun with his other hand, then said lower to Tilly, “He makes me so nervous when he does this, but I don’t want to keep him from doing fun things.” She patted his arm, laughing.
“I know, love. I know.” She took a few steps forward towards the wall and their son. “If we stop letting your brothers watch him, perhaps he’d be a bit less rowdy.” She shot him a grin over her shoulder.
“He’s got enough practice swords. I thought he’d be safe with Bray, but do you know I caught him scaling the library shelves the other day? The very top. And every time Azriel visits he just ends up taking him flying. Do you know how stressful it is to walk outside and see that great bat toting our baby through the air?” Tilly just sighed.
“Yes, yes, my dear. Very frightening.” She feigned a pout at him, but couldn’t keep the smirk from her face as he huffed indignantly. “Kieran, love, would you like to go on a special trip?” His sweet hazel eyes widened comically, his nodding so violent that Tilly couldn’t help but smile. He loved surprises and adventures and dragons, and he demanded lots of books and stories and playtime revolving around them. Tilly and Eris were both enamored with their son, finding very little fault in anything he did. He was always running circles around everyone in the Forest House, and Alanna liked to point out frequently that it was like seeing a small Lucien running around all over again. Ironically enough, Lucien and Elain’s daughter, Sirene, often reminded Alanna of a young Eris, brooding and quiet and full of fiery temper. Helion liked to joke that perhaps they’d been switched at birth, much to Eris and Lucien’s collective irritation and violent eye rolling. Kyra balanced the two out–a quiet and silly girl who loved climbing trees and painting, and who loved to herd the two younger cousins around the Forest House property.
Sirene, Kieran, and Kyra, despite their differences, were inseparable when the families got together. Lucien and Eris had been tentatively rebuilding a relationship and long-overdue conversations had been had. While there was some lingering awkwardness between all the brothers, apologies had been given and tensions had eased greatly in the past few years. They knew it did Alanna’s heart good to see them overcoming the walls Beron had tried so hard to build between them, so they tried to make an honest effort. To everyone’s surprise, the relationship with the Night Court and their children had evolved as well, the children and parents getting together multiple times a year to catch up on less-than-official business. Ever since Gwyn and Azriel began making more regular trips to Autumn, the hatchet had been buried, and everyone had done their best to move forward. Strangely enough, in the aftermath of war, they’d found themselves becoming less allies and more friends.
“Come on, Mama. Surprise!” He tugged her hand as he jumped off the high wall, and Tilly could practically hear Eris’ heart rate spike behind her. The male had seen centuries of war, torture, and horrors, but nothing gave him more fear than the safety of his rambunctious child. She didn’t think she’d ever loved him more than she did seeing him care so deeply about their son. She’d been right from the very beginning–he was the most wonderful father. She held her hand out to Eris and he took it, winnowing them all through the world to a quiet spot in the deep woods, another wall of stone standing proud against the forest background.
“Ooh, where are we?” Kieran looked around in wonder, the massive trunks of overturned trees and moss-covered rocks an entirely new world to him.
“This is where I first saw your mother.” Eris was smiling, looking at Tilly with love that only seemed to grow over the years sparkling in his eyes.
“Mama was here?”
“Yes, I used to come here to practice my portals when I was a bit older than you. One day, I had an audience.” She shot a smile at him while Kieran climbed the crumbling rock wall, resuming his antics.
“Portals, mama. Like this!” He threw an arm out, casting a circle of flame, jumping into it before they even had a chance to shout, and then dropping out of the sky into Eris’ panicked arms. “Portals!”
Eris and Tilly’s wide eyes found each other immediately while Kieran giggled wildly in Eris’ arms, flailing so he’d drop him back to the ground. Eris obliged, jaw still agape, and Kieran ran back to the wall to play again.
“Well…things certainly won’t be dull now, will they?” Tilly leaned in and kissed Eris on the cheek, then rested her head on his shoulder as he wound his arm around her and placed his hand on her growing belly.
“Things have never been and will never be dull with you, love.”

Burning Flames V || Eris Vanserra
Pairing: Eris Vanserra x Archeron!reader Summary: Since you became High Fae there were only two things that scared you: your deadly power and your attraction toward the male you should hate most after Tamlin, Eris Vanserra. Warnings: Eris thinking important stuff, Eris being Eris, probably grammar mistakes and my english. A/n: I’M SO SORRY FOR THE WAITING. I had a writer’s block and i didn’t want to write anything that would disappoint you. I hope you’re gonna like this, let me know if you want to be added at the taglist🫶🏻 Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6

As soon as you all arrived at the River House the mood lightened up. It was time to truly celebrate the Winter Solstice, and Feyre's birthday.
You were all in the sitting room, and when you said all you meant all. Even Nesta and Lucien were there, throught you thought that the presence of the latter was not entirely because his fondness to the Inner Circle.
You took a moment to look around you and letting the sight sink. They were all happy, everyone was talking about something and everyone had a smile on their faces. It was refreshing being in such a familiar occasion, but somehow you couldn't help but feel a bit of melancholy.
Feyre had found a beautiful family. Not perfect, because no one was perfect, but she had found people who loved her and would do anything for her. They would do anything for each other, and even if being Feyre's sister made you part of the group you knew you would never be more than that: Feyre's sister.
You had no special bond with anyone. Only Rhysand and Mor had taken interest in developing a relationship with you, but as you watched them talk with Cassian and Azriel you knew that you could never compare with that. The Winter Solstice was the night for wishes, and you deeply wished to find a family like that one day.
When the time of gifts arrived you were excited. When your family had fallen into poverty there was no money for gifts, so you had spent your birthdays and the holydays as normal days.
You had found out that you loved making gifts. It had something magical the whole searching the right things for everyone and find it. The one yuo were proudest was an enchated satchel for Nesta, where she could put every book she wanted and bring it with her weightless.
You had received gifts from almost everyone. but it was when Mor handed you a box wrapped with expensive, sparkling red silk that your heart skipped a beat. "I think someone is quiet fascinated by you after only few dances." said Mor smugly and she read from who it was from.
You tried to steady your hands and you took the gift and read the little note that was attached to it.
"A reminder that flames are the apotheosis of beauty if shaped by the right person. Happy Solstice, Eris."
You slowly unwrapped the delicate silk and opened the box. Your eyes widened as you caught what was inside. Everyone's attention was on you as you took the glass case that was inside the box and hold it in your hand in front of your face.
You felt everyone's breath stopping as you stared at the beautiful rose made of fire that burned inside the glass.
The glass was warm, and the fire was perfectly shaped as a rose, forever burning on its own. Something inside you flickered, something gold, soft that a moment before was not there. You didn't know what to say as every word disappeared from your mind. It was breathtaking. The beauty of it could not be compared to anything else you had ever seen.
"At least he has good taste for gifts." Mor commented crossing her arms.
You put the glass case on the table in front of you and quickly looked away from it, giving a Mor a tight smile. "What? Having second thoughts?" you said ironically to her, needing to change subject.
She snorted. "Hardly."
"Let's just appreaciate the kind gesture." Rhysand said with an amused smile. "Thanks to you we have his alliance back, let's celebrate that."
It didn't go unnotice to you your sister's tight expression. From the way she looked at Rhysand and the smile he gave her you were sure they were having a mental conversation, about what you didn't know.
The night passed smoothly, there had been no other awkward gifts thankfully. At some point your eyes threatened to close on their own so you excused yourself and went into your room.
You put the rose on the vanity in your room, and for a moment stared at it like it could explode. If Eris wanted to mess with your head then he was doing a great job.
You scoffed, fuck you Eris.
You swear you heard his low laugh deep inside you.
***
When a letter in red paper came for you with only a place and a time written on it you stormed into Rhysand's office, guilt eating you alive. You opened the door without so much as knocking, and told him everything.
You told him how Eris saved you during the war, how you had cured him because yes your power didn't go away but "my sisters lied too so you can't be angry at me". You showed him your hands and arms. You told him that Eris knew about your power but never said anything or threated you, and in the end you told him about the bargain you made.
"You were letting yourself burning from the inside out because you were scared to hurt someone?" Rhysand's voice was not in any way angry, actually he seemed more concerned.
You shrugged, your eyes fell on the ground feeling his heavy gaze on you. "You were all so happy after the war. My sisters still needed me and I didn't want to ruin anyone's happiness with this problem. I would have figured out something, eventually."
Rhysand stared at you silently, a mischievious spark in his violet eyes. "And you thought that making a bargain with Eris was the solution?"
His question wasn't accusatory. It sounded like Rhysand was curious about your maddness, and honestly you were too. There was no right answer to make it sound reasonable, so you gave him part of the truth.
"When he chose me to dance the responsability to keep him as an ally had fallen on me, and unfortunately I couldn't seduce him like Nesta would have done." You shrugged. "Cassian was right, Eris seems to enjoy to annoy me. When he proposed to train me I took it as my chance to keep him close to the Night Court and keep him close as an ally."
"And are you comfortable with this...arrangement?" Rhysand asked you carefully.
You noticed how his reaction had been completely different from what you had expected. You thought that he would look at you like the stupid girl you felt, almost pitying you for talking about Eris like he was not a monster. Instead, Rhysand had just listened, nodded and gave you an encouraging smile.
"Yeah, I'll need one of you to winnow me where we'll meet, but I would prefer if you tell no one but Feyre and Azriel." You said and saw in Rhysand's eyes that he understood the double meaning of your words:
"I don't want Mor to find out, for now."
"It can be easily arranged, but since you'll start to spend time on your own around Prythian I must ask you to start training with Cassian and Azriel whenever you can." he said kindly sitting on the chair behind his desk.
You tilted your head with a grin. "Are you asking as my High Lord or as a worried friend?"
"What about as a brother?" he matched your grin. "An overbearing one, as Feyre calls me."
You chuckled. "I'll start training with them tomorrow."
***
"Your brooding silence is louder than Nesta and Cassian during Winter Solstice." You snorted watching with almost disgust all the flowers around you. The border between the Spring's court and the Summer's court was a explosion of yellow, pink, orange and purple. All colours that made your eyes almost hurt.
You felt Azriel's death glare on your back as you pointly avoided his eyes. "I still have to understand why Rhys think letting you be alone with him is a good idea."
"Because Rhysand would be a hypocrite to deny me of this lovely bargain." An amused, deep voice said behind you making your toes curling in your shoes.
You turned around and saw Azriel watching Eris like he was imaginaing stabbing him, and somehow you knew you were right. "I'll stay with you." said the shadowsinger as if Eris' presence just reminded him how a bad idea that was.
"Tempting, but I'm not usually one who like to share." Said Eris with a cocky grin before looking at you. "Unless the lady wants to."
You narrowed your eyes at him, crossing your arms. It was annoying how most of the times you didn't know if Eris was flirting with you or trying to rile you up.
"Go Az." You looked at the shadowsinger with a kind smile. "I'll be fine."
"I'll be back in few hours." Azriel said to you before winnowing away, giving Eris one last warning look.
You watched for a few seconds the place where Azriel had been standing and took a deep breath. "Over the centuries I forgot how dramatic he could be."
You snapped your eyes on Eris, making a good effort to not notice how his green outfit made his eyes look of an impossible shade of gold.
"He just doesn't trust you." you said ironically. "I wonder why."
Eris gave you a feline grin before offering you his arm. "There is a lake near by, shall we?"
You studied his arm with wary eyes. Inside you there were two sides that were fighting each other. The first one wanted to give him the chance that no one ever did, to trust him and gain his trust back, to get to know the Eris that if you tried hard you could see under his mask; the other part was yelling at you to not be stupid, that if the Inner Circle didn't trust him after five centuries there were very good reasons, and the worst part was that you knew most of them, and still it wasn't enough to make you feel even a hint of disgust.
So you had to pretend.
"Let's just get started." you hoped that your cold mask was at least half good as his as you walked past him toward the lake, ignoring his low chuckle.
***
From your sister's story of her training you had expected everything but this.
Eris had made you sat right in front of the lake with your leg crossed, your back straight and your eyes closed while he did the same beside you and gave you instruction with his voice.
He had told you to focus on your breathing while you had to map the environment around you just with your hearing. Was it even possible?
Spoiler: no.
Everytime you heard a sound your mind would wander around with random thoughts that become a deep dive inside your head. The birds over you reminded you of the days that your father used to bring you around the forest close to your old estate. Who knew who lived there now? Maybe the humans had chosen to let it fall to ruin after what happened to them. Maybe they would think it was cursed.
That's it. You had forgotten to calm your breathing. Again.
"Awknowledge the thoughts that came into your mind and let them go." Eris' voice vibrated right inside you making you shift slightly on your place.
"I thought you were going to teach me how to control my power, not how to control my breathing." You scoffed.
"Who said anything about training your power in the bargain?" He said almost bored.
Your eyes snapped open and you looked at him incredulous. He was smirking. That bastard was smirking and you wanted nothing more than to slap that grin away from his face.
"If you do not train me I could easily lose control and burn everything around us to ashes." You said slowly, angry that he thought he could trick you. "And you with it."
Eris opened his eyes, his grin only grew wider as he looked at you. "Oh, but that would be quite the sight." You clenched your jaw as your skin started to pinch with heat. He gave you an amused look before closing his eyes again and taking a deep breath. "Relax, Little Flame. We need to make you burst out that mass of power that you had been foolishly sealed inside you, but I won't make you do it until I know it's not completely safe for you."
"And completely safe for this place." You added while you fought the blush that was growing on your cheeks at the thought that Eris had just said that he wanted you safe.
You saw him shrugging, his eyes remained shut. "Helion wouldn't mind a little renovation." You scoffed rolling your eyes. How could he be so calm? You had expected to learn how to control your fire, and instead you were struggling to control even your breathing. "Believe it or not, but I'm trying to help you. Close your eyes."
His firm tone made you ashamedly tightening your thighs. You bit the inside of your cheek to prevent you from doing something stupid, like talk back and made him use that tone again.
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm the heat that was starting to grow at the pit of your stomach, which you were sure wasn't due your flames.
"You were born human, but no one taught you how to be a High Fae when the cauldron Made you. Your body is stronger, faster. Your sight, hearing, and nose are sharper." Eris' explanation hit something very precise inside you. It was true, no one had ever stopped to explain to you how to use those new abilities. And it was fine, you had never really asked, knowing that as the older sister you should have to figure it out on your own. "We are at the border between Summer and Spring, with only your nose you should be able to tell where the border exactly is, but lets start easy. Use all your senses but the sight."
His calm and warm voice made it sound simple, and you believed him. It wasn't a even-a-child-can-do-it type of simple, it was more like a your-body-can-naturally-do-that type of simple.
You spent another hour like that, and by the end of it you were smiling broadly. You had successfully used all your new senses, and you were mesmerized by Eris' patience. Not once he had rushed you or had seemed to be tired.
"You're smiling." your head snapped toward him and you couldn't help the look of surprise that grew on your face. "You've never smiled like that when I was around."
You watched him with a hint of michievous in your eyes. As soon as you had successfully told him where the border was he had instructed you to stand in front of the lake and try to smell the animals around you. "You've never been silent around me before."
Eris laughed. The redhead in front of you, the Heir of Autumn, the General of the Autumn Court's army actually laughed and didn't incinerated you for your words.
It was an awful lie what you had said. His voice was probably the most beautiful sound you had ever heard, and you wondered if he laughed because he knew that deep down.
Cauldron, I hope not.
"Tell me if you sense some creatures in the lake." Eris smirked crossing his arms over his chest. "I'll gift you with more silence in the meantime."
You playfully rolled your eyes and took a step closer to the lake.
Deep breath.
Empty mind.
Eyes closed.
You felt the bird above you, the deers at your left, deep in the Summer's forest and even the rabbits beyond the Spring's border. But nothing came from the lake in front of you. Confused you opened your eyes and tried to catch some glimps of fishes or other creatures.
"Nothing." You said tilting your head a bit confused. "I don't think there is something in this lake."
"Good." Eris grinned michievously. "Then put your hands in the water and let your fire out."
You felt your eyebrows hitting your hairline as you widened your eyes and looked at him incredulous. "I am absolutely not."
"You absolutely are." he quickly remarked.
"What if there are fishes in there? I cannot kill them." You gestured to the pool of water in front of you, trying to understand what he intented.
"You said there is nothing in there." He shrugged becoming serious. "You need to start trusting your senses. There might still be days where you need to let your power out and you'll need to scan the area quickly to make sure no one is around."
His words carried something too personal for you to let them go. Was he speaking for personal experience? You wanted to talk back, you wanted to ask him if there were creatures in the lake, but something inside you stirred.
Eris might be the only one who could understand you, who knew what you were going through. He was the oldest son of Beron, you wondered what kind of pressures he had to live with. You wondered if he too had to learn how to use his fire beside a lake to not hurt anyone.
You slowly crounched on your feet and even slower took your gloves away. The burned flesh on your hands were red with remains of the green sticky cream that Madja had given you. The cold water send shivers of pure relief through all your body.
"You want me to light a fire under water..." You said skeptical looking at Eris over your shoulder.
"Darling, I'm positive your power could light a fire at the bottom of the ocean, if wield properly." You looked away from his lazy grin as your stomach twisted at his new nickname.
Water or not water you had to understand now how to call the fire at you. For weeks the flames had been burning all your body no-stop, you just needed to focus them in your hands.
"I do not suppose to know you, but I might guess that your power usually answer to your anger." he was standing behind you like you hadn't a burning fire inside you ready to explode, like you weren't a danger for him. "Focus that sweet mind of yours toward what anger you most."
You.
The answer was quick in your mind.
Eris Vanserra had the ability to make you angry with just a look, and there were so many reasons that you couldn't focus on just one. It made you angry when he used his mocking tone with you. It made you angry when he used a gentle tone with you. It made you angry when he looked at you like you were the only person in the room, and it made you angry when he avoided your gaze in a room full of people.
It made you angry knowing what he did to Mor. It made you angry that there were times when you didn't care. It made you angry that you thought that the male in front of you could never do shuch thing. It had made you angry that he had saved you. But you were even angrier when he hadn't seek you out after the battle.
Eris Vanserra made you angry because he didn't make you angry at all. He made you feel frustrated, amused, annoyed, flustered and seen, and you were angry because you shouldn't feel those things. Not with him.
You felt it then. You felt hot flames rising from your skin and you imagined that the water in front of you were your feelings, and they needed to burn. So, they burnt.
Bright, red fire appeared underwater around your hands and the water in front of you started to boil. You let it all out. Every flame you had pushed down in those months was now left free.
It felt so good to finally let it go. The flames were circling all your arms, from your shoulders down your elbows and to your hands. You had missed the warmt that came from inside your body, the ethernal sensation that no cold could ever touch your skin, never again.
***
Eris had never known an enchanting sight as the one he had in front of him now. Your flames were all around you while from the lake it was rising a cloud of steam that soon enough would catch someone's attention.
He felt your rage through the bond and everything you had kept inside. The steam of power that you were letting out was huge, destructive, beautiful.
He watched silently as your fire stopped and you let yourself fall back, sitting on the burned grass and staring the water with emotionless eyes. He dared to tuck softly the bond, trying to understand what you were feeling, then you laughed, and something gold flickered inside him at that sound.
It was a laugh that could make him burn courts to the ground for the chance to hear it again. It was the laugh that at some point he had dreamed while Under the Montain. It was the laugh of hope that no matter if people like Amarantha, Beron or the King of Hybern ruled merciless, there were still people with enough strenght to laugh.
"I've never felt so free in a long time." you almost whispered to yourself. You stared at your hands and Eris let out a sigh of relief as he saw that the skin was completely healed.
He saw as you took a deep breath and closed your eyes tilting your head back toward the sky, and Eris felt the need to make you stop looking so fucking perfect while he had no right to enjoy this view.
He cleared his throat bringing his hands behind his back. "Can I dare to ask what or who you were thinking? I wouldn't want to find myself in the middle of the two of you."
You gave him a indecipherable look. "Cassian's habit to steal my breakfast."
Eris didn't hold the scoff that escaped his lips. It was clearly a lie, but he understood that. He was no one for you, there was no reason for you to trust him with your thoughts, so he didn't push, even if his stomach twisted in a payinful knot.
He smelled a light scent far behind him, and he knew that was time for you to return back at home. "We should go back before the shadowsinger cut my throat."
He turned around, needing to stop that moment before he started to believe things that couldn't be true. Not yet.
"Wait." your voice stopped him and he curiously turned around to look at you as you stood up and brushed of the grass from your dress. You walked closer to him with a steady look that made him equally unsteady. "It's time for my part of the bargain. My question."
He rose slightly his eyebrows, surprised by your sudden determination. "Go ahead."
He saw as you tried to organize your thoughts, crossing your arms as to make you more secure of yourself. "Is this side of yours part of the mask?"
Eris tilted his head, a bit confused by your question. "This side?" What were you seeing in him? What did he let slip?
"Yes, this side." You gestured with your hands at his whole person. "You, helping me and not being a total arrogant. You always make sure to make the others doubt your intentions, to doubt you. While...while the one I have in front of me is not the same male I heard the others talk about."
Eris stood there for a moment, looking into your eyes. He heard steps behind him approach, steps of someone who usually doesn't want to be heard. He slowly reached out a hand, and tuck some hair behind your ear and he smirked as he heard your breath caucht in your throat.
"Maybe I'm just manipulating you." He whispered, knowing he had few more seconds to play with you. If he couldn't have you for himself, he at least could have those reactions from you. "Maybe I want you to think I'm the good guy to use you against your precious Inner Circle. It would be quite the revenge."
"You are not moved out of revenge." Your response left him speechless for a moment. "If you wanted revenge then half of Prythian would be death."
"I could convince you to kill them for me." he stated back. He had let his hand lingering behind your ear, and now he let it slowly trace down the curve of your neck.
You breath had become clearly shorter, he could feel your heart beating through your chest, but your face betrayed nothing. He could see something flicker in your eyes, the only thing you couldn't control, but the look you were giving him was caution.
It was a game now, seeing how far he needed to go to convince you he was indeed the bad guy. Not to you. Never to you. But to everyone else. He wasn't above killing to gain what he wanted. He had lied, killed, manipulated and swore false oath to ensure the security of his people, but for you? He would kill with his bare hands an entire court to give you a throne, and it terried him.
"I told you, I won't kill for you." your voice snapped him back from his mind. You grabbed his wrist with your hand, fingers still hot with fire, and shoved it away from your neck. "You didn’t-“
“It’s time to go.” A voice cold as death stopped you in mid sentence.
Eris didn’t acknowledge the shadowsinger behind him, keeping his eyes on you. “But we were having so much fun.”
“Step away from her.” Your eyes snapped on Azriel and something twisted inside Eris as he watched you smiling at the shadowsinger and walking toward him.
Will he ever be the one receiving that smile? Will you ever walk toward him that happily?
He watched as you took Azriel’s arm and the shadows started to grow around you, ready to winnow away.
“Little flame.” Eris called after you. Your eyes found his over the wall of shadows that was forming around you. It was time for the answer, he guessed. “No, it’s not.”
Your eyes widened, and it was a pity, seriously, that he couldn’t see the rest of your face before you disappeared, because he knew it would be hilarious.

chapter xxvi – gust & flame
Eris Vanserra x Reader
Eris Vanserra has been a prisoner in his own home since the day he was born. He has done what he had to in order to survive and protect the few he loves. And he is playing the long game. Waiting, waiting, and waiting for the right time to make his move, to usurp his wicked father and become High Lord of Autumn Court. But things become even more complicated when a human girl drops into his life. Perhaps Eris can wait no longer to take his throne.
Word Count: 5,100+
warning: sex scene [even bigger warning: the first one i've ever written, so it'll probably be very bad 😂]
masterlist
“If we continue paying the farmers this way, it will have consequences on the court’s treasury!" The Master of Coin droned on to the rest of the advisors and Eris.
“Abbán, you have been poisoned by the same greed of the late High Lord Beron,” defended General Domnhall.
He was Eris’ most loyal warrior when he controlled Autumn Court's armies. And once Eris became High Lord, there was no one else he trusted more to take his place as General than him. The male was yet another that, had it had been safe enough, Eris would've considered Domnhall a friend.
General Domnhall had been away from the Forest House since Eris had usurped the throne, in order to protect the Court and assure Eris’ reign was not overtaken or challenged, while also monitoring the borders of Autumn Court.
Eris tried to suppress his smirk at his friend’s defensiveness.
“And what of the funds we gained from trading in human flesh?” Domnhall added darkly.
Eris finally leaned forward, forearms pressing into the oak table. “Do not take me as a fool, Abbán. My father’s greed was always framed as responsible and for the good of the Court. But we all know neither were true. He kept as much as could, so our people were desperate and worked harder for nearly nothing. He did it to control them.”
“They are your subservients!” Abbán’s voice raised.
Eris shot to his feet. “There are my Court!”
From the outburst, his entire body was engulfed in flames that threatened the room, but remained in control at his side.
Everyone at the table tensed.
“A High Lord is meant to bring his Court to glory, not to keep his inhabitants weak and scared of his power,” Eris continued evenly. “You and I both know there is plenty of coin, Abbán. Rid yourself of the illness that is greed, or I will find a Master of Coin who can.”
Abbán swallowed nervously.
But Eris continued. “In the past, we have relied too heavily on the interest of other Courts to purchase our goods. We shall start trading to the Mortal Realm and to the fae of Spring Court.”
There was instantly murmuring amongst the table.
“But High Lord Tamlin could see this as an attempt to take his Court,” one said.
Eris scoffed. “Tamlin cannot even manage his own manor. Do you honestly think he’s paying any attention to the goods being imported through his borders? Lucien will manage the shipments. They trust him. And if their High Lord will not assure his inhabitants are being fed, then I will.”
Abbán knew better than to argue. So, he bowed his head and replied, “Yes, High Lord.”
“We have been at council since dawn, High Lord.” Another spoke gently. “Perhaps that is enough for today…”
“Yes,” Eris agreed in a growl. “It is.” He waved his hand lazily. “You are dismissed.”
He slumped back into his chair, waiting for the others to leave.
Domnhall was the only one that stayed behind, patiently waiting to be left alone with the High Lord.
Eris pretended to not notice.
There was a moment of tense silence shard between the two males.
“Shall I kill him?” Domnhall asked cheerfully.
Eris rolled his eyes. “If I wanted him dead, I could do it myself.”
Domnhall stood and moved closer to his High Lord, hovering about his seat at the council table. “Yes, I am well aware.”
Eris sighed and crossed his arms. “Is there something you needed, Domnhall?”
The general smirked at him. “Get rid of the ol’ git. He is useless. His greed makes him unfit for the role. It is smart a smart move to bring food to Spring Court. They are suffering. And perhaps your charity could bring more to Autumn Court.”
Eris nodded slowly. “How is my army?”
“They are my army now,” Domnhall teased. “And they are well. Some are weary about the civil unrest. None wish to fight against their own, some of which are their families and friends. But they remain loyal to you, Eris – as always.”
During Beron's reign, the army would have followed Eris through anything. They were loyal to him, not Beron. They trusted him, believed in him. But Eris would never have risked their lives to an outright war against his father.
Eris rubbed his face, clearly deep in his head.
“Now, where is that mate of yours?” Domnhall asked with a smile, looking around playfully as if she would appear at any moment. “You have hid her from me for months now. All I know of her are the rumors that spread through the Court.”
Eris cocked his eyebrow at him. “With your history, do you really think I would let you anywhere near her?”
Domnhall only chuckled. He was not shy about his love for females, especially ones who were...unsatisfied with their husbands.
All teasing disappeared as Eris’ gaze darkened. “She wishes to return to the mortal realm. To Y/N, her place is not here, but amongst the humans.”
Domnhall’s smile dropped. “But you are mates…”
“Yes, and that holds little meaning to mortals. She does not see it as we do. She cannot feel the bond.”
“But she is not just a mortal,” Domnhall argued. “She is a witch!”
“If she wishes to leave, who am I to stop her?” Eris finally snapped. “Shall I chain her to the Forest House, hold her captive, make her no more than a prisoner?” He rubbed his face. “It wouldn’t be the first time a High Lord imprisoned a woman in such a manner…”
“Do not compare yourself to Tamlin,” Domnhall spat with disgust. “You keep her here to insure her safety. The mortal realm is unstable as it is – and if anyone found out who she was, she would be endangered. I know your actions are noble, Eris. Your father is no longer here to force your false character. And I know the male you truly are.”
Eris stood, his hands pressing down into the table. “Thank you, Domnhall, for your…loyalty and…”
“Friendship?” The general offered with an amused smirk.
He too now stood. “One day, I hope you can undo your conditioning and actually call me your friend.”
Domnhall started to leave, but paused at the doorway. “And in case you didn’t know, friends usually introduce each other to their mates.”
He winked and disappeared.
—🍁—
Eris needed to see her. His body started to ache when he was away from her for too long. And once she had moved into the Forest House, the aches only grew stronger.
All the talk of her from Domnhall only made him realize the council had been distracting him from the feeling.
And he could ignore it no longer.
Y/N had healed him after the battle, after he had used his beast form for the first time since becoming High Lord.
It had been almost two weeks, since Y/N had healed him after the battle, after he had used his beast form for the first time since becoming High Lord.
And Eris had barely had time to see her since.
Now, he searched for her in the surrounding forest of the manor. It was all enclosed and protected by countless spells of his own magic.
She should not be in any danger here. But it still left him uneasy for her safety.
The trees were getting thicker and he tried to pull on the string that tied him to her. He'd heard of mates calling to each other, yanking at the tie between their hearts and souls.
But Y/N was not fae – even worse, she had not accepted the bond yet.
Instead, Eris came across one of his guards that he had assigned to watch over Y/N.
He bowed immediately. “She is safe, High Lord. Lady Y/N wished for space, I have the guards surrounding her, but keeping out of her sight.”
Eris nodded in thanks. “You and the rest of the guard are relieved of your duties for the day. Thank you for watching over her.”
The guard bowed again, but hesitated before he soflty added, “She was helping the injured all morning, High Lord. Then she immediately went to the archives for hours. I believe she needs some rest.”
Eris gripped the guards shoulder in thanks. A gesture he would’ve never even thought of doing when Beron was still alive and ruling.
He walked forward until there was a break in the trees. The small patch of hilly grass allowed the light of the setting sun to slip through.
In the middle of the clearing was a giant oak tree, its trunk over five feet wide.
And beneath it was his mate, fast asleep on top of a thick blanket. But not alone, for his smoke hounds were an extra layer of protection on top of the guard he assigned to watch over her.
She was wearing a blood red dress made of both velvet and sheer fabric. Even when laying on the grass asleep, she looked utterly beautiful. Her lips were covered in a stain that perfectly matched the color of her dress, and Eris could only assume one of her servants had insisted on the detail.
Eris swore he did not pay the Court’s seamstresses enough for how perfectly they tailored all of Y/N’s clothes.
Per usual, her feet were bare. But somehow hardly dirty for having trounced through the woods.
As soon as Eris took a step into the clearing, all 12 of his smoke hounds – who had been cuddly and guarding Y/N – shot up and growled a warning to him.
Eris whistled lowly, his signal for them to relax, one of many that he had trained into them since they were puppies.
Their growling immediately ceased and a couple even trotted over to give their master a greeting.
The only threat now: Ronan. Y/N’s pet fox, who was not his nor trained by him.
Ronan still growled in warning at Eris, standing protectively at Y/N’s feed as she slept.
Eris chuckled at Ronan, still a kit and not a full-grown fox yet.
Ronan let out a bark when Eris was only a few feet away, and it finally stirred Y/N.
“You woke her, you overprotective runt,” Eris hissed his scold to the fox.
Y/N blinked and reached for her knife. But as soon as her gaze found Eris, her entire body relaxed.
“I apologize for waking you,” Eris quickly told her, hovering where he stood, unsure if he should invade her space or leave.
Y/N gave him a shy grin and then reached out a hand, silently signaling him to join her on the blanket.
Ronan gave another warning growl.
“Hush, Ronan,” Y/N chided, as she picked the fox kit up and moved him on the other side of her, away from Eris. "You know he means no harm.”
Ever so gracefully, Eris walked through the pack of protective smoke hounds and carefully sat on the blanket beside Y/N, his back resting against the trunk of the oak tree.
To his surprise, Y/N scooted closer instantly, resting her head against his chest.
Eris tried to control his heart rate as his mate’s ear lingered right over it. One would think he was some pubescent fae youngling with the way his body reacted to such an innocent gesture. It would be more embarrassing if he was not getting such a thrill from this innocent intimacy.
“What are you doing out here, little witch?” He asked her as he brushed hair behind her ear and off her neck, so he could clearly look down at her face.
Y/N sighed, “I needed some air.”
“Ahh…and what gossip did the wind tell you today?”
Y/N smirked “Nyx took his first steps today. Rhysand cried more about it than Feyre did.”
“What a sentimental fool,” Eris snarked back.
“Do not be rude!” She snapped back with a smile, and pinched his thigh in warning.
As if laughing with them, a small fist of wind flurried around them.
Eris looked down at Y/N. Really she should be wearing a cloak or have another blanket.
Quickly, he slightly jostled her to remove his own cloak, the collar lined with fur.
He wrapped it over Y/N gently.
She smiled. “You didn’t need to do that. What if you get cold?”
Eris rolled his eyes. “Tis only fashion. I am the High Lord of Autumn, a wielder of flame. My blood runs hot and I am almost never cold.”
To prove it further, he held out the hand that wasn’t holding his mate, and lit a fireball in his palm. Then released it into the air. It remained floating around them and Y/N immediately felt its warmth, as if they were sitting near a bonfire.
Y/N cuddled even further into his chest.
She looked up at the trees around them, forever in a state of orange, red, and yellow.
“In the mortal realm, I would wait all year for autumn. I dreamt of the leaves changing all summer. I always yearned for the chill air, the cloudy skies, the rainy days. Summer weighs me down. I hate the heat and the humidity, the sun is overbearing.”
Y/N hesitated before she continued. “When I first entered Autumn, it felt like a cruel joke, being dragged into the most beautiful place I’d ever seen, while bound and enslaved.”
Eris’ body tensed in rage. The ball of fire sparked from his emotions.
There were some days when he wished he could bring his father back, only to torture him for what he did to Y/N, and the mortal women and childcare.
But when Eris managed to stifle his anger, he looked down at Y/N, she had already fallen back asleep.
He whispered to the wind, “It is because you were meant for this place, my mate.”
Then he leaned down to kiss her brow.
The wind brushed through again, as if it agree with his statement.
Suddenly, all he wanted was to join his mate in her peaceful sleep.
Eris whistled to his dogs. Their ears perked up and they all looked to him, waiting for the command.
“Stand guard,” he ordered.
They all scattered, taking on positions in a radius and sitting stiff with watchful eyes to the surrounding forest.
But to Eris’ amusement, Ronan trotted to the edge of the blanket and joined in the reconnaissance and as the last line of defense.
Perhaps Ronan did take orders from him…when it involved his mate’s safety.
—🍁—
Eris awoke almost 2 hours later.
His recent distance from Y/N had made sleeping difficult. And as soon as he had her in his arms, his body relaxed and the exhaustion caught up with him.
Loyal and obedient, his smoke hounds were pacing around them, guarding and surveying the area for any potential threats.
Eris looked down to see that Y/N was still peacefully asleep on his chest.
She needed to eat, and rest in a proper bed.
He whistled again and the smoke hounds sprinted toward him, then sat in a line, awaiting their masters next order.
“With me, back to the Forest House.”
The half the smoke hounds sprinted ahead, while the other half surrounded Eris.
Ronan stayed at Y/N's side.
As carefully as he could, Eris gathered Y/N in his arms. And with a wave of his hand, the blanket disappeared and would arrive in the wash house.
Y/N’s head naturally fell to his shoulder.
Eris walked slowly back to the Forest House, worried that winnowing would wake her.
As soon as they reached the grand hall, a servant paused her work and bowed at their arrival.
“Ready a meal for two and bring it to my bedchambers, please.” Eris ordered.
When they reached his room, Eris gently placed Y/N on his bed.
“Little witch, you must wake soon and eat something.”
She whined at her slumber being interrupted.
“When was the last time you ate?” He asked her with a narrowed gaze.
She shied away at the question, and was smart enough to look a little guilty. For if the tables were turned, it would also upset her to see the High Lord skipping meals and working himself into utter exhaustion.
“That is what I thought,” Eris answered for her.
It only took a few minutes for someone to bring up a meal for them.
It was a sweet looking fae who looked quite young. But Y/N had quickly learned that looks could be deceiving when it came to predicting the age of fae.
Much to Y/N’s dismay, the servant practically carted in a feast for just the two of them.
Eris stood, moving to the cart. “Thank you…” There was an awkward pause. “…Delyth.”
The servant blushed at the High Lord using her first name.
“O-O-Of course, High Lord.” The poor thing stuttered out with a bow.
Eris had been making an effort to address the staff with more kindness and acknowledgment. It was hard to adjust from the way Beron had rule this house. Which was why it was sounded so unfortunately awkward for Eris to address the servant by name.
Feeling a bit braver now, the servant turned a bit to address Y/N directly with a shy smile. “The cooks made sure to include a few apple tarts. The bakers said they have quickly become one of your favorites.”
Y/N beamed at the kindness. “They are! Thank you so very much, Delyth. And please tell everyone in the kitchen thank you, as well.” She gave some side eye to Eris. “From both of us,” she added.
Delyth rushed out with a final bow.
Y/N joined Eris at the cart of food. Now that she was smelling and seeing it, her stomach growled and she finally acknowledged how hungry she was.
“The servants seem less scared of you these days,” Y/N pointed out with amusement as she lifted lids off various sides.
“That is less scared?” Eris cocked a brow.
Y/N sighed and turned to face him fully. “Give it time, Eris. You have only been High Lord of Autumn for – how long? – 4 months?”
He just hummed.
She continued. “You have been alive for centuries. Surely you do not expect to undo your previous reputation in mere days?”
Eris was already filling a plate with a little bit of everything they had been given. “Well, certainly I should take notes from you. My Court adores you.” He smirked. “If the apple tarts were not obvious enough.”
He handed it to her, making Y/N realize he had been making a plate for her before himself.
She took it carefully, trying to ignore the sweet gesture.
“Eat,” he urged, the High Lord in him clearly heard.
“Yes, yes.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m eating. I’m eating.”
Y/N moved to sit on the floor next to the giant fireplace in his bedchambers. Before she had even fully sat down, Eris had started a fire with a simple nod of his head. Then giant floor cushions – blood red, velvet, and tufted – appeared next to her.
“I like sitting on the floor,” she muttered to herself, but fully knowing he could hear.
“Well, I do not,” Eris retorted as he joined her on his own cushion.
“Ah, right. We were just talking about how you are centuries old. It probably isn’t comfortably for your poor back…”
Eris paused the stabbing of his food with his fork at such a comment.
But when he looked up, Y/N was trying not to laugh.
“What!?” She finally giggled. “I find it hard to believe anyone ever had the courage to tease you. Perhaps it will build character!”
“No one teased me because if they did… they were fried to ash and soot.”
“By Beron?” She mocked.
“By me.”
But his glare could no longer be ignored.
“Fine. I will stop,” Y/N surrendered.
They continued their meal with comfortable conversation. Mostly of Eris asking about her day, and the days before when he could not see her. He asked her about the mortals, how they were faring, if the children needed anything.
In return, Eris told her about all the meetings with his council. He even admitted how much he struggled with not lashing out at those who seemed resolute on disagreeing with his every decision and philosophy.
“You may rid yourself of them, you know…” Y/N hummed.
She now lounged on her side across the floor cushion, head propped up on her elbow as she gazed up at his straight posture.
Y/N added, “There is a middle ground between complete submission and murdering any who disagree with you.”
“And what is that, little witch?” He asked, almost bitingly.
“You could dismiss them from their position, remove them from the High Lord’s council.”
“And let them live?” Eris challenged with disgust in his tone. “So they could leave my court, and join the rebellion and challenge me?”
Y/N sat up and moved closer, matching his sitting position. “Yes, let them live! So your people see that you are not a tyrant, but a just High Lord with honor and benevolence. And you leave an opening for others to gain standing with you, showcasing their honor, taking any opportunity to help you and help their court. True acts of service – not titles won through deceit and greed.”
Eris stared at her in awe.
His witch spoke like a vizier, whispering council into a mortal king’s ear. But she was not doing it for any benefit other than his own. She only wished to help him.
“I see your time in our libraries has taught you a thing or two,” he whispered to her.
Y/N's face warmed and she looked away from his studying gaze. “I only wished to understand the ways of the fae and of Autumn Court.”
“Yes, and you learned much more than that, too.”
Eris reached out then, his fingers brushing gently against her cheek, lifting her chin so she was forced to look at him. His touch was like a spark— familiar and foreign still.
Without another word, he leaned in, his lips brushing hers, a kiss that was both a promise and a plea. Their politics and council seemed to vanish in that moment—the weight of their bond, the burden of their destinies, all faded into the background, until there was nothing left but the beat of their hearts and the shared warmth of their embrace.
This was not their first kiss, but it was the most daring of them all.
There was a new energy, one that had been tapping at her shoulder for too long. And she feared she could no longer ignore it.
When they pulled apart, Y/N’s breath was shaky, her pulse racing.
Eris’ hand slid down her spine, pulling her flush against him. His hands roamed over her body, exploring every curve and contour.
He pulled away to look at her face, reading every tiny expression to see if she wanted him to stop. Because he knew his mate to be bashful, and she would not stop him until she was too scared.
Thus, he was surprised to see such hunger and desire in her y/e/c eyes.
Eris pulled up the skirt of her velvet dress, then undid the delicate buttons at the back of the dress, letting it fall from her torso to reveal a sheer lace body suit as her lingerie.
His fingers traced the lace, teasing her skin through the farbic, until Y/N arched into his touch, a soft moan escaping her lips.
"You are beautiful," he murmured against her mouth, his breath hot on her skin. “I fathom any males who have had the pleasure of seeing you this way were undeserving.”
Y/N's hands were not idle either. She ran her fingers through his thick, flame hair, pulling him closer and deepening the kiss. Her nails scraped lightly down his back, eliciting a shudder from him. Eris groaned, his desire for her growing with every touch.
Eris lowered his head, his lips moving down her neck and across her chest.
Y/N arched her back, her hands gripping his shoulders, as waves of pleasure rippled through her.
"Eris," she gasped, her voice hoarse with desire.
She was not a stranger to sex. But it had left her so disappointed in the past, that her body had declared a complete disinterest in exploring it further with men, moving forward in life with an utter lack of desire.
But Y/N did not know that Eris had put those pieces together, from Feyre’s subtle warning to him after Y/N had shared such a depressing sexual past to her friends.
It brought him a strange rage that men had disappointed her so thoroughly. But that was quickly replaced with the primal urge to show her what she could have from him.
So, Eris obliged, lavishing attention on his mate, his hands roaming lower, caressing the curve of her waist and the swell of her hips.
Y/N's breath quickened as his fingers dipped underneath the skirt of her dress, tracing the lace edge of her body suit.
Pride swelled through Eris as his hand moved to instantly find her arousal.
“Let me, Y/N. Please. I beg you," he whispered, his voice thick with desire.
Y/N's eyes fluttered open, and she gazed up at him, her expression a mix of desire – and, surprisingly, trust.
Eris smiled, a predatory grin, and gently pushed her back onto the cushion, following her down, his body covering hers. He kissed her deeply, hungrily, his hands roaming freely over her body, exploring every inch of her soft skin.
His fingers traced the line of her thigh, pushing her skirt higher and out of the way, fully revealing the delicate lace that covered her core.
Y/N's breath hitched as his fingers brushed against her over the fabric, and she arched her hips, seeking more contact.
He finally took pity on her and moved the fabric to the side.
Eris's eyes darkened with desire as he took in the sight of her exposed sex.
With that, he dipped his middle finger into her, slowly, teasingly, remembering that she was a mortal – and one has lived without being deservedly worshipped by a male.
Y/N gasped, her body jerking at the sudden intrusion. The sensation of his finger sliding into her was exquisite.
His finger moved in a slow, deliberate rhythm, gently stretching her, filling her with a pleasurable ache. He added a second finger, causing Y/N to moan softly, her head tossing back. And she clenched around his fingers, her body welcoming the touch in a way it never had before. It was a reminder than fae males were bigger than men in every way – including their fingers.
“Breathe, Y/N.” Eris encouraged with equal parts dominance and tenderness. “I can feel you holding back. Relax, my little witch.”
His voice alone sent a tremor through her body and it listened to his command as if he were her master.
He began to move his hand in a steady, rhythmic motion, his fingers curling and inside her, hitting a spot within her that she had never felt before.
Y/N gasped as pleasure coursed through her body.
She could feel her orgasm building, a feeling she had never experienced when sharing a bed with the few males in her past. Delicious tension coiled in her core.
"Eris..." she could barely whisper, pleading with him against her own control.
Eris grinned, knowing he had her exactly where he wanted her. He increased the pace, his fingers working her with relentless precision.
But he was not another fumbling, mortal male. He was high fae, a powerful high lord – with Autumn fire in his blood. And he could give her more than just his fingers.
His magic flickered out of him, controlled and careful. He could not give her too much or she might never recover. She may be a witch, but she had a fragile mortal body still.
An invisible flame under his control spread across her skin, like a hundred warm hands were touching her, overwhelming her senses. Her skin was hot from the magic and beads of sweat started to form.
She couldn’t handle it any longer.
Y/N’s hips bucked off the floor, her hands trying to grip onto something as she surrendered to the sensations.
But Eris took both of her hands in one and locked them above her head, keeping her his prey.
“Let go, Y/N.“ Eris encouraged, his thumb finding her clit and circling it gently.
His words were like magic too, and Y/N’s body exploded in pleasure.
She cried out, her back still arching as wave after wave of orgasmic bliss. Every window flew open by a gust raging into the room. Not the messengers, but her own witchcraft. As if it was her body’s subconscious response, desperate for relief from the stimulation.
“Good girl,” Eris whispered as his magic wouldn’t let her calm down, overstimulating her. His fingers continued their assault, pushing her orgasm further, drawing out every last bit of the pleasure she deserved.
As the tremors subsided, Y/N lay panting with closed eyes, her hair fanned out on the wood floor like a halo. Her body spent, recovering from something she’d never felt before.
But Eris comforted her, reminding her of his presence by caressing her skin and kissing up her torso and focusing on her neck.
He kept her arms above her head, worried she would try to use them to hide herself from him.
After a few minutes, Y/N opened her eyes to find Eris still nuzzling her neck.
As if sensing her clarity coming back, Eris finally released her and pulled back to give her a stern look. “You are not allowed to be embarrassed—understand?”
The dominance in his voice forced a quick nod from her.
Eris had always had an imposing energy as High Lord. But it had never been directed at Y/N like this, and it was making her body tremble.
Y/N had never been given a chance to openly express her sexuality, and the intensity of her reaction caught her off guard.
In his presence, she was able to let go and give him control over her body and mind.
But Y/N’s whole body only grew warmer – and not by the hand of Eris’ sex magic. Was that even what it had been? Her mind was fuzzy.
Before Eris could say another word, she scrambled onto her feet. At least she had the decency of lingerie still being on her body. But she abandoned the dress Eris had so easily removed, the dozens of buttons would now betray her in this moment.
Instead, she lunged for the Eris’ cloak that he had draped over her in the forest earlier and wrapped it around her shoulders, hiding her undergarments.
Her heart was pounding, and she felt a rush of emotions—pleasure, confusion, and a strange sense of vulnerability.
"I... I shouldn’t… we can’t,” she stammered, eyes darting around the room at everything, but him.
Before Eris could respond, she rushed out of his bedchambers.
He knew her avoidance would win in the end. But Eris was a patient male. One does not live for centuries, planning their tyrant father’s usurping without great persistence and humility.
So he would let her hide…for now.
Eris had been tiptoeing around Y/N, submitting to her fear and need of distance. He let Y/N control their relationship with her withholding and protective isolation.
But he now understood: Y/N needed to be chased, needed to be exposed to her greatest fears just so he could show her he would not let her get hurt.
But now she had proven to him that she could handle his passion, his desire. He just had to take it, with the unbroken promise of keeping her safe through it.
Eris fell back to the floor and stared up at the high ceilings of his bedchamber.
Y/N had left him alone with the lingering scent of her passion. It filled his bedchambers and it wouldn't dampen for days.
Eris smiled, knowing what he had to do now.
Y/N needed to be conquered.

I know people never read these author notes. But I have two things:
a) if you've been following my work for awhile, you know that this is the first sex scene I have ever written. I usually just skip sex scenes and heavily imply them with a fade-to-black strategy. So, if you liked it: please, please, please let me know. I really don't know if I pulled it off.
b) thank you so much for being patient with me. work has cause me to have multiple mental breakdowns, panic attacks so bad that I have to call out sick from work. I have been busy applying to jobs, while also dealing with the high demands of my current job. so i simply have not had the mental motivation to produce art, instead only finding the energy to consume it.
if you liked this chapter, please write a book report for me. it will bring me joy. 🥹🧡

Cleaned Sketches: Heir of the Autumn Court, Eris Vanserra with short hair. Click for better quality.
We talk ad nauseum of Lucien and how much he resembles his mother. I like to think that if/when Eris keeps his hair short, it's an (eerily) spitting image of his father Beron. 🍁🍂
Don't know if I'm going to finish this one, but I like how sharp and even poised his features came out, particularly in his skinny nose, chin, and cheekbones, as opposed to the witful/ancient-ness I hoped to capture in Nesta, or the animalistic wildness/flowy nature I aimed for with Tamlin. I feel if I did Eris with longer hair, it'd curl up even more, in a spiky way.

High King and High Queen…
I don’t understand why people think this is a good idea no matter who you want in the throne… You will not get all 7 Court to agree to give up all their power to one ruler. You’re asking for war. You’re asking for most likely genocide. You’re asking for tyranny cause that’s the only way a High King and High Queen can come into power again. Also, for those who want Rhys and Feyre on the throne… one good city inherited by generations before who built it in a giant court that is double the size of most other courts is not enough to prove you’re good rulers. Seriously, ONE. SINGLE. CITY.
The road to High King and High Queen is paved in blood. You know who also wanted to take all of Prythian? Amarantha. And look what happened there. No one. Not a single court will ever want to live remotely like that again. Especially not under the rule of the court that has a city Amarantha’s court under the mountain was modeled after.

When a High Lord is powerless.
summary: Eris x human reader, reader is sick, Eris is freaking out.
a/n: since i'm just getting over a sickness I wrote this to feel better about myself. enjoy
Warnings: none
wordcount: 1.1k

Eris pulled at his hair, helpless at the scene before him.
You were sick. The night before you told him it was a “common cold.”
“It’s a human thing I guess, since you ethereal fae don’t ever get the sniffles.”
He had never been around anyone ill. Fae got injured. Accelerated healing made it so only deadly blows would do any real harm. But it was never anything invisible that would wound, it was magic, blades, fire. Yesterday you had been perfect. Eris listed the things he saw you do in his mind: breakfast, ride through the groves, read, play a game of chess… all the usual things that kept you busy.
“High Lord, I beg, don’t touch the High Lady. She has a very high fever and we must lower her temperature.” The words were a blow to his gut. A contradiction to the very instincts that urged him forward, closer to you.
“High Lord, please.” The healer looked at him with wide eyes. He could not find malice in them, only worry to match his own. “What can I do?”
The healer sighed and wiped her brow. “If you could find ice, it would help the fever.”
He nodded, exiting the room at once. In all his years his magic, his fire had never been the cause of his self loathing. It was the fire that kept him going in the dark days when Beron was alive. The same fire that kept you warm in the cold Autumn nights when you first arrived was now aggravating the monster that ravaged your body.
He winnowed to the border with Winter as soon as he stepped out of your chambers. Scooping chunks of ice and snow and praying to whatever gods might hear him that it would be enough. That they might spare you.
Would a god implore him in a bargain? Your health for his magic. If it would bring you harm when you needed help he would be rid of it entirely. Or perhaps his immortality. There’s no him without you, not anymore. He might trade his lifespan for a human one. You’ve said that you have sixty years if you’re lucky. That would be enough… what god might- “Oh thank the Cauldron you found some! The ice in the kitchens ran out.” The healer yanks the bag from him and begins to coat your body in the frigid substance. You moan, discomfort rousing you from sleep.
“Eris… where is he-”
“I’m right here, love.” Your hand reaches for his, but the healers instructions were clear. Heat would worsen your condition and he was a walking furnace. “I’m right here, the healers say the cold will help with the fever.”
“I don’t- I don’t like this Eris, I’m cold. Hold me, please…” He can’t stand it. The paleness of your skin, the heaviness in your eyes and the dark circles beneath. Your teeth are chattering. He steps closer. “High Lord! She is merely uncomfortable, the ice is helping. Please try to remain calm.”
He fumes. “Then make her comfortable! She’s your High Lady! If harm comes her way I will not hesitate-”
“Don’t yell, my darling. I’m alright… just a bit cold is all.” Your voice is barely a whisper as it slaps him across the face.
“I apologize, I’m worried about my mate.”
The healer huffs in acknowledgement and returns to her ministrations. “It’s just a cold Eris, I’ll be fine by tomorrow. Back in the Human Lands my mother would make me broth and I’d be back to normal.”
“What kind of broth?”
Then he was in the kitchen. No cooks were on duty in the middle of the night so he followed a recipe from a book, which he ignored a soon as he foud a medicinal journal. He boiled anything he could find with healing properties to make an unappetizing broth but at the very least it would help your body fight.
“This smells terrible.”
“Humor me.” You gag as you get another whiff but manage to down a few sips. The lukewarm liquid soothes your throat so, against your tastebuds screaming otherwise, you sigh in relief. “Is that better?”
You nod and give him a quarter of a smile.
“Is there nothing else I can do?”
“You can brush my hair.” Eris looks towards the healer for her approval. “So long as you only touch her with a brush, it should be fine, High Lord.”
He massages your scalp with the soft bristles of the brush andthen proceeds to rid your hair of the tangles being in bed had caused. If he was being honest, it looked like a bird’s nest. He’s as gentle as he can, and a loud snore makes his heart jump to his throat. You’d fallen asleep again.
“Her fever is better, I will return by sunrise to check again. If anything happens please do not hesitate to call, High Lord.”
“Thank you, Willa.” She nods and pats him on the shoulder. “She’ll be fine, my Lord.”
It’s morning when Eris wakes up in the chair beside your bed. A sneeze that startled both of you was his good morning. “I need a handkerchief.” You request while covering your nose and mouth with your hands. Eris digs into his pocket and gives you his. “Don’t look at me while do this, sweetheart.”
“Why not?”
You roll your eyes and just urge him to “look away!” He does and what follows in a wet, squelching sound he cannot imagine is coming from the beautiful creature on the bed. “All done,” you say in a defeated tone. The energy you had gathered from sleep had been wiped out by a sneeze and a blow of the nose.
“How are you feeling?” It takes you a while to reply as you cuddle up closer to the pillows substituting Eris’ body. “A bit better, I suppose.”
“You said you’d be back to normal today.” What if you had taken a turn for the worse? Had the fever been too much?
“It’s not an exact science, my love. But my throat doesn’t hurt anymore, so I am better.”
“You’ll be the death of me I swear.” You reach your hand out to his. He hesitates.
“I don’t have a fever anymore, hold my hand.” He has no power agaisnt his mate and has been craving your touch for hours. Your hand is icy in his, but its just as soft as he remembers it. “See, I’m right here, not going anywhere yet.”
Yet. Because you had your days numbered, illness or not. He would never be ready to part. Never wants to face eternity with out you. So he reaches out to the gods again, hoping at least one would take up his bargain.

request where the inner circle finds out about you & Eris ~ with oops a lot of smut x
You wake up to the sun rising, orange light filling the quiet room. Eris still had his warm arms wrapped around you. You shuffle around to face him, his sleepy arms limply falling off you. A soft content sigh passes your lips as you stare at him, taking in every detail of his face. Your eyes follow along the countless freckles across his sun kissed skin and painted across his pointed nose. His pretty lips slightly parted as he breathes gently in his sleep. Your fingers come up to brush a piece of his beautiful orange hair from his face causing him to slightly stir. His eyes slowly flutter open and the piercing ambers meet you gaze as you smile at him. He smiles sleepily back and you couldn’t help but think he looks like the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen.
Your eyes wander down his tone chest until they reach the tent in the blanket covering him. The temptation sparks an idea in you and he moans softly when your lips suddenly begin to move along his neck. Your mouth continues its journey down his body, leaving little love marks along the way. When you reach the end of his torso he looks down at you with heavy lidded eyes. You smirk mischievously up at him and watch his member twitch from the sight of you looking up at him like that.
You give a small lick up his hardness and watch as he throws his head back against the pillow. You take your time teasing him, swirling your tongue around the tip and licking up his length but never fully putting him into your mouth. You smirk to yourself watching him squirm beneath you as small whines escape him.
Just when you know he’s about to beg for more you take him as far as you can down your throat, slightly gagging before moving back up. He groans loudly and his hand reaches down to softly thread his fingers through your hair. You continue to bob your head up and down along his length as he bucks into your mouth.
“Wait…” He says in a breathless whisper you hardly hear.
You give a hard suck on his tip and he groans as his fingers squeeze harder in your hair.
“F-fuck (y/n)…” He chokes out, the sinful sound of it shooting straight to your core.
He throws his head back with a loud groan as he spills into your mouth, hips bucking into your face as you work him through his orgasm.
You crawl back up the bed and lay beside him as he catches his breath. After a moment his head turns to you with a dark look in his firey eyes that send shivers down your spine.
He quickly crawls over you and before you even have time to process what he’s doing he’s throwing your legs over his shoulders and his mouth is on your core. You gasp as his tongue works wonders on you and your heels press into his strong back.
“Eris…” You say in a whispery breath.
He growls in response, the sound vibrating against you and pushing you closer to the edge.
“Say it again.” He says in a low commanding voice that gives you chills.
“Eris…” You breathe and he groans against you again as his tongue dips into your entrance. “Eris… Eris… Eris…” You chant his name in a whisper, though you’re unsure if he can still hear you with the way your thighs now squeezed around his head.
His slender fingers slipping inside you is your undoing, you quickly grab a pillow to cover your face and moan loudly into it as your orgasm overtakes you. Eris works you through it, smirking smugly against you as you involuntarily buck your hips against his face.
Now you are the one laying there panting, mind still spinning like a tornado. Eris crawls up the bed and lays back beside you, his firey hair a total mess and a satisfied smirk on his devilishly handsome face.
“I am not ready to leave you.” Eris says quietly, his smirk fading into almost sadness.
“Then stay.” You offer with a soft smile.
“Yeah right.” He chuckles and you look to him in offence. “Morrigan will be home any day now, she would have my head if I overstayed my welcome here. In her opinion, I probably already have.”
You frown and let out a disappointed sigh knowing he is right.
“Why don’t you come live with me in Autumn?”
“What?” You ask with a confused and surprised smile. “I… I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Eris challenges. “Your family has no need of you right now, and if they do they can always call on you. Though, I’d always want you to return home to me.”
“Home?” You say with the same confused and surprised smile.
“You said it yourself you have always loved the season, always waiting for it to come. It’s autumn year round there.”
“What about your father? I don’t think he would want me to intrude on his life.”
“Beron is far too busy focusing on himself to care at this point. Besides, it’s a large place and I’ve gotten very good at knowing where to avoid him.”
“I don’t know Eris…”
“You don’t have to answer now, my love. Just promise you’ll think about it?”
Your heart swelled at the name and you give him a smile and nod. He smiles back excitedly at you and leans over to pepper kisses all over your face making you giggle.
“I should probably speak to them alone first.” You say as you get up from bed and begin dressing for breakfast.
“You’re probably right. I shall follow you in a bit then.”
You give him a final kiss before leaving the room, walking toward the inevitable storm.

**********
You make your way to the dining room for breakfast, Feyre and Rhysand were chatting away. Azriel was quietly seated across from them and eating his own food. When they see you walk into the room you prepare yourself for the looks, the comments, the interrogation… but instead you’re met with casual ‘good mornings’.
“Did Eris stay in the guest room?” Rhysand asks you as you a take the middle seat beside Azriel, purposely putting space between him and Eris when he joins.
“W-what?” You stutter.
“I saw his jacket was still hung in the hall so I assumed he stayed overnight.” Rhys explains.
“I- yes, he did.” You clear your throat.
You could not believe they had not figured it out. Neither of you were at all quiet last night, but perhaps Rhys and Feyre thought it was Nesta and Cassian and vice versa. They seemed to have no idea you just had sex with Eris. If Azriel could smell him on you he didn’t make it known.
The nervousness in your stomach roils more when Eris strolls into the dining room, a satisfied grin still on his face. He sits in the seat right beside you and his hand instantly wanders to your thigh.
“How was your sleep Eris?” You quickly say, cutting him off before he can respond with something clever about your night together, “I do hope the guest room was quite comfortable.”
He takes in your serious expression, he raises an eyebrow in confusion but goes along with it.
“Yes, I do apologize for my intruding.” His eyes move from you to Rhys then back to you. “I did not come with the intention of staying, but…”
“It’s no trouble.” Rhys waves a hand dismissively.
Azriel’s normally blank face shows he did not agree. You let out a silent breath of relief, the feeling quickly replaced again with worry when you meet Eris’s confused eyes again.
“Would you like some?” You pass Eris the platter of pastries from your side of the table, in an attempt to cut the tension in the room.
“Yes, thank you.” He says politely as he accepts a pastry from you.
Neither of you knew what you were doing until you feel the mating bond snap into place. Not realizing when you offered him food and he accepted, that you both were accepting the mating bond. All of a sudden your skin is overly hot and you’re fighting hard against your sudden urge to go at it right now with everyone in the room.
“Please, excuse me.” You say as you stand from the table, trying to control your legs that were shaking like a day old fawn. “I’m suddenly not feeling all that well. But Eris… I do need to speak with you.”
“Yes, of course.” He rushes out of his seat a little too eagerly.
You both rush out of the room and down the nearest hall to a spot hidden from the dining room but directly in front of the sitting room you prayed no one had plans to go to soon. Your bedroom was much too far and you needed eachother now. Your whole body aching with the need to feel him.
Eris captures your lips and pushes you against the wall with his body. You help him frantically push up your skirts to your hips before he lifts you up and you wrap your legs around him. He undoes his trousers just enough to let his cock spring free before lining it up to your entrance and pushing in. You gasp and then bite your lip hard to contain your moans but the pleasure was already blinding.
It was fast, and rough, and desperate as he pounded into you against the wall as you cling for dear life to his broad shoulders. You both quickly get close to reaching your peaks, the pleasure so overwhelming you don’t even register the loud thumping sounds you were causing against the wall or the sound of footsteps coming towards you.
“What in the fuck?!” Rhysand exclaims.
Your eyes shoot open in horror to find Rhysand standing right before you. You quickly scramble away from eachother in a panic and fix your clothing.
“Rhys, I can explain.” You begin in a panic.
“You can explain it to Feyre.” He says with an unimpressed chuckle and puts his hands up in defence before walking back towards the dining room.
Oh shit oh shit oh shit, you thought. You and Eris look to eachother with worry, the expression quickly turning heated as you take eachother in, blood still racing from your mating bond and ruined orgasm.
“No.” You point your finger at him like a dog, a slight smirk on your lips.
“After you then.” He smirks back and gestures his hands out.
You take a deep shakey breath before walking to the dining room to face the storm you knew was coming for certain now.
**********
To your horror, Nesta and Cassian were now there too having breakfast and Azriel was still in his seat. Feyre looks to you, her face unreadable but not happy. As you looked into her eyes you read their expression asking is it true?
“What has Rhysand told you?” You ask, your voice coming out quieter than you intended.
“He told me saw you… you both…” She trails off, still wrapping her mind around the news.
Everyone else in the room was now alert to your conversation, the attention focused on you. Rhys must’ve told Feyre through the bond because everyone else had pure shock painted across their faces.
“It’s true.” You say plainly. “But we weren’t doing it just for fun.”
You swear you hear Eris’s smug thoughts saying even though it was very fun. Though his face remained serious.
“Eris is… we- I’m his…” You stutter, it was harder to admit to your family than you thought.
“We are mates.” Eris states confidently.
The room goes as silent as a morgue as everyone processes the words.
“You’re joking.” Cassian finally says.
“No.” You firmly retort.
“Wait… did Rhys catch you guys fucking in the hallway?!” Cassian’s jaw drops.
Your silent stare at him was answer enough.
“How…” Feyre begins, still processing. “How long have you known?”
“I cannot speak for (y/n), but truthfully I have known since the moment our eyes met at the ball.” Eris explains.
“I wasn’t asking you.” Feyre snaps at him.
“I’ve known just as long.” You counter.
“Why did you not tell me?” Feyre asks you with hurt in her voice.
Your stomach sinks further as you look to the rest of your family exchanging looks of anger, disappointment and disapproval. Just when you think things could not get worse, Mor walks into the room and spots Eris right away. No one had even heard her enter the house.
“What the hell is he doing here?” She demands, no hello or pleasantries to the rest of you first.
“You’re never going to believe this…” Azriel mumbles, shaking his head. The first words he’s spoken all morning.
“Tell her.” Cassian chuckles, though there was no humour in it.
“Eris… is my mate.” You say lowly.
“You’re joking…” Mor says, anger crossing her face.
“That’s what I said!” Cassian chimes in. “But unfortunately it’s no joke.”
“You.” Mor looks to Eris, the word like venom.
“Look Morrigan, I know you despise me. But I did not plan for this or intend to hurt you. I’ve never wanted to hurt you.” Eris defends himself.
Mor scoffs at him dismissively before turning to you.
“And have you accepted this bond?” She asks you, her angry eyes boring into yours.
“Oh has she ever…” Cassian comments and you shoot a glare at him.
“Yes… I have, I do… accept the bond.” You respond quietly.
“After everything that happened how could you be so fucking stupid?!” She seethes in rage. “Why in the hell would you possibly accept a bond with him?”
“Because I love him!” You snap back, finally having enough of all of this.
The room freezes once again as everyone stares at you. Eris eyes meet yours and he gives you a reassuring nod in support.
“I love him and honestly at this point I don’t give a fuck what you think! You’re too blinded by your hatred to even consider that he’s a good man, and he’s my mate. So although fighting you is the last thing in the world I want to do Mor… I will defend him until I am blue in the face because he’s mine.” You’re absolutely fuming as anger overtakes you, finally fed up with everyone’s negative opinions. The mating bond sparking something protective inside you.
Once again the room grows silent, everyone stunned by your outburst. You’ve never yelled at any of them, normally you’re the quiet shy one. Eris takes a silent step towards you and slides a hand into yours supportively. His touch only fans the flames of the fire inside of you, that fire of anger turning into desire. You jerk your hand away from his, feeling sorry when you see the hurt look on his face. But you couldn’t explain to him in front of everyone that it made you want to pounce on him right there.
“Well he’s not staying here…” Mor mumbles, breaking the silence as she crosses her arms.
“That’s fine! Because I’m going to Autumn.” You cross your arms back at her.
“You can’t…” Feyre says quietly, sadly.
“Yes, I can. You don’t need me anymore, and if you do… I will always answer your call for help.” You say looking directly at Feyre before turning to the entire room. “You’ll know where to find me.”
You storm out of the dining room and head directly to your bedroom to pack your things. You hear Eris mumble an apology before silently following behind you.
**********
Eris closes your bedroom door once you’re both inside, he turns to you with concern as he watches you pace back and forth in anger.
“(Y/n)…” He says lowly, causing you to finally stop pacing and look at him. “Are you… I mean, are you ok?”
Your heart ached at the hurt on his face, realizing you’ve been cold to him while caught up in your anger with your family.
“I’m so sorry my love…” You walk up to him and wrap your arms around him.
He instantly wraps his arms around you and hugs you tight and you can’t help the tears that begin to fall. He pets your hair and softly hushes you, you lean into his warmth and finally some calmness washes over you.
“I’m so sorry I was so cold to you.” You sniffle and he hugs you tighter.
“Hey, no, you weren’t. You defended me… I don’t think anyone has ever done that for me.” He reassures you and you let out a breath of relief. “Though… I was slightly offended when you yanked your hand from me.”
You pull back to look at him and he has a soft expression on his face that makes your heart melt like warm honey. As the anger and sadness fade away it’s quickly replaced with love and desire as he still holds you in his arms.
“I had my reasons…” You say to him, your voice low.
“Which were?” He asks, genuinely confused.
“Because Eris! When your skin touched mine I… it made me feel…” You take a deep breath before finally blurting out your thoughts. “I nearly pounced on you, everyone in the room disappeared and… I was about ready to fuck you in front of all of them.”
“Nothing Rhysand hasn’t seen.” He jokes with his usual sly smirk.
“I’m being serious Eris.” You roll your eyes, but your lips quirk up into a smile at the same time.
“I know, I’m sorry.” His smirk turns into a soft smile before returning again. “I can’t blame you… If you had pounced on me I don’t think I could’ve resisted that, ever since this morning I feel like a starving wolf on a chain and you’re a beautiful delicious doe I want to devour.”
“Really? Because I feel more like the wolf who wants to devour you.” Your gaze turns heated as you look into his amber eyes. “We have unfinished business…”
“That we do…” Eris grumbles, the rough sound shooting straight to your core.
You’re not sure who makes the first move but suddenly your mouths and bodies are crashing together in a burst of passion. He quickly leads you over to the bed before spinning you around and bending you over it. You rest your knees on the mattress as he quickly hikes up your skirts, the urgent need in both of you just needing enough of your bodies exposed to connect. You cry out when he enters you, no longer caring what your family heard now that they knew. Without hesitation he begins pounding into you, grunting as his fingers dig into your hips hard enough to leave bruises.
You cry out again and again as he brings you to orgasm again and again. Just when you think you’re done a new one begins, until he’s grunting loudly as he reaches his own peak pulling your hips impossibly closer against him as he spills into you. You crash forward onto the bed as you catch your breath, feeling his seed steadily leaking out of you.
The act only satisfies you for a short time while packing up your things until Eris is on his knees in front of you, climbing under your skirts to ravish you with his tongue as you cling desperately to the nearby dresser to hold yourself up.
Just as you were finally packed and about to leave the room he took you once more on the desk. The furniture slamming loudly against the wall with every quick thrust.
**********
You and Eris finally make it out of your bedroom and toward the front door. You were still fuming and had no interest in saying goodbye to anyone and you figured they wanted nothing to do with you now anyway.
“(Y/n) wait!” Feyre calls down the hall.
You and Eris turn to her as she catches up to you by the door.
“Are you here to try to convince me to stay?” You ask, your tone dry.
“No.” She shakes her head and takes your hands in hers. “I wanted to tell you that I love you and I just want what is best for you. And if he makes you happy…” She glances to Eris. “Then I am happy for you sister.”
You pull her into a tight hug, tears falling down both of your faces at her words. It meant more to you than she could even know.
“Thank you Feyre.” You whisper. “I love you too.”
You part and your eyes meet full of understanding and sisterly love.
“We all want you to be happy.” Feyre says.
“Well…” You begin.
“She’ll come around.” She reassures you. “They all will.”
“Maybe.” You half shrug and she gives you a final tight hug.
“Take good care of my sister.” Feyre says to Eris.
“I will.” He responds with a genuine smile.
You sigh as you take in the house and your sister one last time, grateful the others were not saying goodbye right now. It would take time for them to understand so you’d give them that space.
**********
Eris winnows you both to Autumn court, right outside the front doors of the palace. You suck in a breath as you take in the beauty around you, the colourful trees all around and the gorgeous building in front of you, your new home.
“Wait here while I warn Beron of our arrival.” He says to you.
“Warn him? I thought you said he wouldn’t care if I stay here?” You ask with worry in your tone.
“Don’t worry, my love. Trust me, he won’t care. But that doesn’t mean he will be nice about it…”
You nod and watch as Eris disappears behind the large doors. After a short while he returns, holding his hand out to you.
“Shall we?” He smiles.
“Where are we going?” You ask as your hand slips into his.
“To our part of the court.” He grins.
“Our part?” You raise your brow and his grin widens but he doesn’t respond.
You walk in silence enjoying the serene sounds of the trickling water of the nearby river and the crunch of coloured leafs beneath your feet. It was an oddly comfortable silence, just enjoying eachothers presence as you walk hand in hand. The weather was perfect, cool yet warm with a light wind blowing through your hair. The sun had begun to set and filled the afternoon sky with beautiful stokes of pink and orange.
Eventually he leads you to the other side of the building and through another door. The inside was even more beautiful than the exterior. The grand house was still somehow warm and cozy feeling, reds and oranges and golds beautifully decorating every detail. Eris smiles down at you as he watches you take it all in, your face in pure awe.
He leads you to your new shared bedroom, even more beautifully decorated than the hallways. The large canopy bed had red and brown sheets with a gold trim along the edges and on the headboard. Your eyes turn from the bed to Eris and he meets your gaze with sudden fire in them.
Your lips meet quickly but the kiss is slow and tender. Neither of you in any hurry now as pieces of clothing are removed one by one and you fall in a heap on the bed. He takes his sweet time with you, kissing and licking every single inch of your body as you squirm against the bed in anticipation as his mouth movies up your inner thigh. He tastes you but only for a moment, making you whine when he stops and continues kissing his way back up your body. Then he finally enters you and his thrusts are slow but deep, making you moan loudly every time he hit that spot deep inside of you. Your eyes hardly left each other, the intense eye contact fuelling the desire between you. The orangey light shining in through the windows glowed against your skin making you both look ethereal. The entire moment felt like a dream.
By the time you’re finished the sun had gone down and the only light left in the room is the single flickering candle beside the bed. You happily begin to doze off in his warm arms, finally feeling at peace after all the chaos of the day.
“Psst, hey. Don’t fall asleep yet love.” Eris whispers to you.
“Hmm, why?” You mumble sleepily.
“Get dressed and I’ll show you.” He smirks as he gets up from the bed, taking his warmth with him.
You whine and he smirks at you.
“It will be worth it I promise, just put on a robe we aren’t going far.”
You huff as you reluctantly get up from bed and do as he says, throwing a thick sleeping robe on to cover your bare body. He offers you his hand and as soon as you take it he winnows you somewhere else.
You adjust your eyes to the new sight before you, now on an outdoor roof terrace of the palace with the moon and stars shining bright about you. Hundreds of white pumpkins decorated the circular frame of the space and nearly thousands of candles among them as they flickered in the breeze. It was absolutely breathtaking.
“Eris what is all of this?” You question with your back still to him.
When he doesn’t respond you turn around and a small gasp escapes you. Eris was crouched on one knee before you, holding up a dazzling ring that seemed to sparkle amongst the bright stars.
“(Y/n) Archeron…” He begins and tears quickly form in your eyes. “I’ve spent many years of this life alone, or with pointless company that I may as well have been alone… But meeting you has changed me completely. I feel like the luckiest male in this world to have found you. My beautiful, kind, witty, wild mate.”
Tears roll freely down your cheeks now and you notice the silver lining his own eyes.
“If you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you have made me in such a short time.” He continues. “(Y/n) Archeron… Will you marry me?”
“Eris…” You can barely speak through the choked up tears. “Of course, of course I will!”
The gigantic smile that crosses his face warms your heart. He slips the ring onto your finger before standing and scooping you up. You wrap your arms around his shoulders, giggling as he twirls you around happily. Once he places you back on your feet his lips meet yours.
“I love you more than I can put into words…” He mumbles against your lips.
“I love you so much Eris.” You smile before bringing your lips back to his.
The kiss suddenly turns more heated as the mating bond surges through your veins like fire once again. Your bodies make their way down to the stone ground, your robe acting as a blanket beneath you and falling open at the front, Eris quickly undoes his pants and you’re connected once again. This time felt even different as you solidified your eternal commitment to eachother. Gold light flowed between you brighter than the endless candles or stars shining above you, the light shimmering off the white pumpkins all around you. Your vision is blurry from the pleasure but you swear you saw a shooting star. The beauty of everything, of him, was overwhelming as you cried out reaching your peak again and again.
As the fire of him completely consumed you, for the first time in your life you felt like you were finally where you always belonged.

Flame of Autumn - Prologue
I am so excited to finally be posting this! Ch. 1/25
Find this also on Ao3
Biggest thanks to @thesistersarcheron and @azrielshadowssing for being my beta readers for this chapter forever ago! You're both wonderful!
He was running, his heart pounding like a war drum in his chest and breath crystallizing in the cold air in front of him. The leaves blurred into a tunnel of reds and oranges around him, but he refused to stop. He was young, but he knew these woods like he knew his own mind. He could run for miles–for days–but he knew in the end it wouldn't matter. There wasn’t anywhere he could go where he would be safe.
He stumbled through his sprinting steps, winnowing blindly a few hundred yards every so often. His lungs were burning, his knees felt close to shattering. He tried to push back against it, but his small body forced him to stop, the pain becoming overwhelming. He braced his hands on his knees while he willed his racing heart to calm. The tears on his face were turning cold as they dried, and the blood had become crisp on his tunic. He shifted uncomfortably at the ache across his ribs, feeling more blood eek out to drip down his side. He pushed his hand to it, wincing at the pain freely now that he was alone.
The trees here were old—older than recorded history, at least—and the bark peeled off in thick, ragged strips in this perpetual autumn. Time-smoothed stones dotted the ground, covered in soft moss and occasionally interrupted by ancient tree roots the size of small horses.
The boy pushed a crimson curl out of his eyes, flinching once more at the deep pain in his side. It was deeper than his healing capabilities would be able to fix, just like his father had intended. He’d have to bind it when he returned to the Forest House, but he wouldn’t hurry. He’d already gone too far, and his absence would be noticed. It was likely not the final wound he would receive today.
He sagged to the ground at the base of one of the old trees, allowing himself to ease back into the curved base and forcing his body to relax.
This is your fault. The thought was in his head, but it was the voice of his father that clanged around his skull.
Failure. Wretch. Weak. He furiously wiped at the tears pouring from him.
Crying is for the feeble. Is that what you are, Eris? He pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes so hard he saw bursts of light behind them.
A flash of red in the distant woods caught his eye. Surely, they hadn’t been able to find him out here? He shot up as quickly as his injured ribs would allow and raced behind the tree, trying desperately to calm his breathing. The quietest notes of a song made their way to him as he peaked around the other side.
In the clearing ahead was a girl, no older than he was. She crawled up on a decrepit stone wall that circled what looked like an ancient cemetery. The stones within were weathered well beyond translation, and the walls around it were crumbling.
The first thing he noticed about the young girl was the bright shock of red hair that topped her head. It was tucked up loosely in a braided knot, tendrils falling loosely about her face, and it made her look as though she belonged there amongst the colorful autumn leaves. Her clothes were nice, tailored, likely the mark of a noble family, which begged the question of what she was doing all the way out here. He knew they were far enough from civilization that she would not have wandered here accidentally.
Did she know of this spot? Was she running from something, too?
Her humming filled the small clearing as he quietly ran forward, tree to tree, to get closer. She danced on feather-light feet along the crumbling wall, and now that he was closer, he could see her pale skin was dotted with freckles like constellations of russet stars. As he reached the closest tree to the clearing and looked around it, her humming turned to a quiet song. She sang so low it could have been a whisper, but her voice was lilting and melodic, the tune haunting.
Through the groves of apple trees
A maiden fell upon her knees
To beg the Mother in skies above
To send her visions of her true love
‘I'll send you, girl, a knight so fair
With speckled skin and fire-kissed hair.
But so deep a sadness lies within
Underneath his scarred skin’
But Mother, then, what will I do?
To entice him with a love so true?
‘To crack the cold, and broken heart mend
First you must become a friend
How will I warm the cold around
His wounded heart so tightly bound?
‘You'll use your fire, warm and bright
And together walk into the light’
He was entranced by her. So much so that, when her toe caught an errant stone in the wall and she tripped, he shot forward almost as if to catch her. His eyes played tricks on him for his folly, as he watched a hole of flames erupt from the sky above, dispensing the girl through it to fall back down to the very wall he’d just watched her fall off of.
He’d foolishly shot out from the protection of the trees when she fell, and that’s where she saw him now, hand still outstretched in an attempt to stop her, catch her, somehow. He saw her eyes, the most beautifully stunning hazel, register his presence and widen, her mouth forming an “O” in shock.
“Wait, please don’t go,” He blurted, arm stretched towards her in a pleading arc, surprising even himself. But she’d already slipped through another flaming portal, and this time she did not reappear.

Burning Flames IIX || Eris Vanserra
Pairing: Eris Vanserra x Archeron!reader Summary: Since you became High Fae there were only two things that scared you: your deadly power and your attraction toward the male you should hate most after Tamlin, Eris Vanserra. Warnings: ANGST, mention of death, language and my english :) A/n: And she is not death! I'm talking both about me and the reader, lmao. I'm sorry for the waiting, god knows how this month had been full for me, but don't worry, even if it will take me months to finish this fic I will! I have everything planned out and I won't leave you unsatisfied🫶🏻 Let me know if you liked this chapter, what you think of the fic so far and if you want to be added at the taglist ;) Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3- Chapter 4- Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7

You were nothing and you were everything. You were drowing and you were flying. Everything felt infinite and yet so small. Darkness filled you, but a bright light seduced you to follow it.
Stay.
A voice as familiar as your soul filled the infinite, little space around your entire existence.
Come back to me.
Home. The voice was home and you had been wandering what felt like forever looking for it.
Stay a little longer. Fight to live, please.
Home was calling for you. It was guiding you away from that bright, warm light.
Please, Little Flame. Don't leave me.
Your existence smiled, and then you launched yourself toward it. You wanted to go home. There were so many things you still had to do that you remember no one of them. You could see it now, the golden string leading you home. You grabbed onto it and hold it tight. Gold erupted around you, warm hugged you, and then your entire existence burned.
***
Your niece was the most beatiful creature you had ever seen. Currently sleeping in your arms you got lost observing how the beauty of both Rhysand and Feyre had crafted that tiny, little, breathtaking child.
You had asked Rhys how to hold him without hurting his wings at least a dozen of times. They were so fragile and thin that you were afraid they could get broken even with a wrong look.
"You had wasted money on that crib, Rhys." Mor softly said, not wanting to wake up Nyx. "He'll always sleep in someone's arms."
You wanted to speak in, to joke too, but your sore throat didn't allow you. It turned out that while Eris had tried to hold back from killing you, his fire had burned part of your vocal cords, and Madja had forbidden you from speaking for at least a week.
"Poor boy," Madja had said. "he must have suffered an atrocious pain to fight the Crown and not kill you."
"He is going to be a heartbreaker with those eyes." You joked in your head, knowing that only Rhys could hear you.
The male laughed while he poured a glass of wine to Mor. "Just like his father."
You rolled your eyes playfully as Cassian entered in the living room with a serious look on his face. He approached Rhys while giving you and Mor a quick smile. "I'm going to visit Eris."
Your eyes snapped on him, your whole body going rigid. Eris. Only the name sent shivers all over your body. You hadn't seen him since you blacked out in his arms, after you stupidly, recklessy, kissed him.
The heat that rose on your face was enough to make you look away, toward Nyx in your arms, hoping that your hair hid your blush.
You had tried not to think about him in those last days. Not to think about how he had kissed you back. How soft his lips were. How he tasted of honey, making you wonder if he tasted like that down-"You should go too, Y/n."
Rhys' voice snapped you out from your unholy, undecent, inappropriate thoughts. You watched him visibly confused, knowing there was no point in hiding that you were absolutely not listening.
"Eris had arrived at Hewn City this morning under my request." He informed you while his violet eyes seemed to look like through your soul. "I think your presence might be...welcomed. You saved his life after all."
You really hoped not to have flinched at his words, knowing that Mor was right beside him, looking at you curiously. Gods, what did she think of you? Saving the life of the male she hated. What would she think if she find out what you really think of him?
"If you think so." Your voice was barely a whisper, knowing that their fae's ears would catch it up.
The truth was that you had been dying to see him again. When you had woken up in Azriel's arms you had barely had the time to breath again that Feyre had started her labour. There had been no time to ask about what had happened, and when the baby was born Azriel informed you that Eris had gone back to his court, not remembering much about what had happened.
"I'll take him." Mor said standing up from the couch and gently taking Nyx from your arms and giving you a warm smile. "Be careful."
You gave her a nod before taking Cassian's arm and let him winnow you inside the Hewn City, right outside a poolished, black door. You guessed was Eris' suite, and the confirmation came when an angry Keir rushed out of it.
Mor's father stopped on his feet as soon as he saw you two, and gave you in particular a sneer. "If you take away some of her clothes he might be tell you something."
You had barely widened your eyes when he stormed away, probably sensing the death glare that Cassian was giving him now. You wondered if now that he was a fresh, mated male he felt more eager to tear apart other males, but you guessed that Keir didn't want to know the answer.
"Let's get this over." Cassian's breathed as he opened the door and entered before you, shielding you with his wings as he always did.
You thought you were past the point where they would still think that Eris was a danger to you, but after what happened with Briallyn you couldn't blame them. Mor had told you that Azriel had found you nearly dead in Eris' arms and, her words not yours, Gods knew what he would have done to you if Azriel hadn't arrived.
Jokes on you, you really hoped that Azriel hadn't seen how you had tried to save yourself. Not that the shadowsinger would ever let anything slip from his mouth, but still it would be...what? Mortifying? Yes, mortifying that you didn't feel ashamed at all.
Eris was reading a book by the roaring fire, an ankle crossed over a knee, as if his presence there were nothing unusual. As if he hadn’t been kidnapped, enchanted, and manipulated by a vengeful queen and a death-lord. As if you hadn't shagged him until blacking out.
Cassian shut the door behind you, and Eris lifted his amber eyes, meeting yours. Did he remeber? How much? Did he want to kill you for what you did? Would he start laughing and mocking you?
His gaze lowered to your neck where you knew you had a nice, red necklace made of burned flesh and purple bruises where his hand had choked you. You saw his jaw clenching and his posture stiffining as he looked back at Cassian. "I can't stay long."
His whole body and tone screamed that he didn't want to be there, and by the way he had stiffened as soon as he saw you, you were perfectly sure to be the reason why.
"Good." Cassian said dropping into the seat opposite him, trying to make room for you on the loveseat without succeding.
You gave him a smile, shaking your head to say that it didn't matter as you sat on its armrest. You saw Eris studying your interaction carefully as he closed the book in his hands. His eyes fixated on you, his amber eyes scorcing your soul with the intensity of his gaze, then they fell on your lips.
You ashamely shivered as his eyes seemed to relive the kiss you had shared. Mother...he remeber, you thought feeling a hint of heat appearing on your cheeks. Then, his hand tightened around his book as his eyes met your again. "You cannot speak."
It was a statement. Not a question. He was not thinking about your kiss, he was noticing how you still hadn't opened your mouth to speak. You were about to do so when Cassian spoke before you.
"You gave her quite the necklace, you prick." Cassian sneered, suddenly in a mood. Your gaze snapped on him, burning him with your eyes as he kept looking at the prince. "Her lungs and vocal cords were all burned."
You cleared your throat, preparing yourself for the pain that was going to come. "I can speak, you overprotective asshole." Your eyes immediately stung with tears as you felt sharp rocks rubbing the inside of your throat. You hated how your voice sounded rough, low and weak. "I was just advised not to."
You could have sworn Eris flinched as soon as he heard you speak. Eris Vanserra, heir to the Autumn Court, flinched at the sound of your voice. You weren't sure if you should get offended or feel touched.
"Don't worry, nothing permanent." You gave him a smile as you whispered, the only way to not ending up crying for the pain. "I'm fine."
Something shifted in his face. The worry, the hesitation were gone. If it hadn't been for his red hair you would have mistaken him for someone of the Winter Court. His face was a mask of pure coldness, his eyes, where flames usually danced, were now unmoving.
"I suppose you want to know what I told Briallyn." Eris said Cassian, as if the conversion you had never happened.
“Rhys already looked into your mind. Turns out, you didn’t know much.” Cassian gave the male a slashing grin.
You froze on your seat. Did Rhys saw the kiss? Was this the reason why he had watched you carefully those days? Why he wanted you to go and see Eris?
Eris rolled his eyes, not touched at all by the violetion of privacy. "So why am I here?"
Something was off with him, and it was not only his behaviour toward you. He seemed to not care about that conversation at all, he seemed like he wanted to do anything rather than talking about that.
"We wanted to know what you told Beron. Since you're sitting here, in one piece, I'm assuming he doesn't know about our involvement in your rescue." Cassian said, and your head snapped toward the Illyrian male.
That was not the reason why you were there. You had just wanted to know if Eris was alright. You were smart enough to trust that he obviously wouldn't have told Beron anything important, but for Cassian to imply just that was insulting.
"Oh, he knows that you...assisted me." the mocking in his tone, the hint of a smirk on his lips, were a relief compared to the emptiness you had seen in his eyes while Briallyn controlled him. "Always mix truth and lies, General. Didn't those warrior-brute teach you about how to withstand an enemy's torture?"
His words hadn't time to register in your head as Cassian spoke. "Beron tortured you?"
You watched Cassian confused. Why was he implying that? You knew that Beron was a monster, but Eris was his son. He would have probably tortured whoever he thought responsible for his kidnapping.
"Who cares what my father does to me?" Your eyes snapped to Eris as he stood up, tucking his book under an arm. No. You were undertanding wrong. "He believed my story about the shadowsinger's spies informing him that a valuable asset had been kidnapped by Briallyn, and that you lot were disgusted to arrive and find it was me, rather than someone from the Summer or Winter Courts or whoever stoops to associate with you."
The more he talked the more you felt sick. Beron had tortured him. Beron had tortured him. Beron had tortured him.
Beron.
Had.
Tortured.
Eris.
While you were uncoscious. While you were celebrating Nyx's born. While you were resting and healing and laughing, Eris was being tortured by his own father.
Tortured.
Did you even understand the meaning of that word? Could you even imagine what Beron actually did? To Eris. To your Eris.
Cassian was talking, Eris was answering, but you hear none of that. Blood was pounding in your ears. Fire was running in your veins. Red was filling your vision.
You wanted to scream. You wanted to burn. You wanted to leash out your fire and let it find Beron. Let it burn him and the entire castle. Anger. Anger was all you knew. Anger was all you had ever known.
You saw Eris wincing as he moved. Were he still hurt? Did he not get to a healer?
Beron had tortured him. How dared him touching what was yours? How dared him hurting what gave you happiness?
You will kill him. You will find Beron and kill him. You will burn his flesh piece after piece. You would let Eris' hounds eat him alive. Then you will heal him completely and start again. And again. And again. You will keep doing it until you crashed his brain. Until he wouldn't know what to beg for.
Fire. You would use the very thing Beron thought he controlled. You would shape it as his biggest nightmare and use it against him.
"Y/n." Were those voices? "Stop." Were those hands on your shoulders?
You were an arrow aimed straight, and the target was inside the Forest House in the Autumn Court. You would find him and stop him existence.
Look at me.
The words vibrated in your soul as amber filled your vision. Those were eyes you were staring into. Amber eyes. Beautiful, enchanting, living amber eyes.
Stay with me. Focus on me.
Eris' voice filled you whole, and then you realized that it was Eris standing in front of you. His hands had been the ones holding you. His eyes had been the ones you had been staring to.
He was speaking to you, but not really. His lips weren't moving, his breathing didn't shift.
Breath for me, Little Flame.
Little Flame. You recognized that name. It was Eris' name. It was your name. You blinked once. Twice. You took a better look at his face and knew that you would kill everyone who hurt him.
Smoke rose from his tailored shirt, and you needed another blink to notice the flames circling the both of you, making the world outside disappear. Making you two disappear from the world.
Gods. It was your flames that were slightly burning his shirt, and with a panicked wave you pushed the fire walls two feet more away from you. Since when you had that control? Since you don't want to hurt him.
"Your shirt." you whispered as the pain in your throat brought you completed back to the real world. "I burned it."
"Your neck." he replied so softly that you barely heard him. "I burned it."
His hands winced on your shoulders, and you felt his need to both push away and hold you tighter at the same time. He closed his eyes, breathing deeply, and as he leaned closer you let your foreheads meet in the middle.
Your hands were shivering, begging you to seek revenge. You gripped his shirt's collar, inhaling the scent of him. Honey, burned wood, cinnamon, cedar. It felt like the home you had always dreamed about.
"I'm going to kill him." You didn't recognize your own voice when you spoke. It was the voice of death. You watched as Eris opened his eyes and met yours. "I'm going to make him suffer and then kill him."
Something shifted in his eyes. Something you couldn't decipher. Something cold and yet warm. Something dangerous but soft. He was having an internal battle, his hands were slowly letting you go and you didn't want it.
"Let me heal you." You whispered, hoping to smooth the anger inside you.
"Make the fire disappear." it was his only response as he took a step back, leaving you confused and lost. "Now."
You had to blink twice because you almost didn't recognize the male in front of you. His voice had turned cold, he had straightened his posture and his eyes were nothing but demanding.
You gulped as you started to call the fire back into you. Suddenly you realized you were still standing in the suit inside the Hewn City. A confused, worried Cassian was looking at the two of you from a spot beside the window.
When did you move from the couch?
But you didn't look at the Illyrian male. You didn't look at the burned forniture that needed to be replaced, or at the smoke that rose from it. Your eyes stayed on Eris, pinning him with your stare.
"Let me heal you." You whispered again, testing the air between your bodies.
He clenched his jaw, his hands fixed in two fits at his side, as if he was preparing phisically for what come next. "Take your pity and leave."
***
He saw your eyes widening. He saw your breathing catching and your eyebrows furrowing, as if you tried to understand what he had said. You were taken back, you tried to mutter words but with your burned neck nothing came out.
Good. Lets be quick.
He had to strike before it was too late, and he did. He had come too close to you. He had come too close to killing you. And he needed to put distance between the two of you again. He didn't need you to hate his father, he needed you to hate him. He needed you to hate him as much as he hated himself for what he did to you.
"It's not pity." you sounded almost insulted by his implication. "You're hurt, I can heal you."
But why would he deserve to be healed by you when you couldn't heal yourself from what he did? He deserved nothing. Nothing. Not to be healed. Not to be cared for. Not you.
"Don't bother to do something I wouldn't." he saw the physical punch his words gave you. He saw the lies he said placing roots inside you.
Gods, he could be so cruel when he wanted. He knew exactly how to hurt people without touching them, and he was doing it to the last person who deserved it.
He had been so close to killing you. He had seen the life leaving your eyes, and he couldn't have done nothing to stop it. To stop him. The Gods had played a sick joke on him. The very right moment he had got close to you, when he had started to believe that he might become someone worthy of you, they had reminded him the danger he was to you. They had reminded him that you would never be safe beside him. Too many enemies. Too much of his father's blood run into his veins. And he would have cut them open if it meant he could spill all of it away and replace it with something else.
The worst, most terrifying thing was not how he felt about you, he was too gone to be ever saved from it, but it was that you cared for him. In his way to get to know you, you had started to care for him, and where did it bring you? Right into death's hands. His hands.
You had kissed him to save him. You had kissed the very lips that were now spilling hurtful words to you. You had kissed him and let him take all your air to save him.
He couldn't let you be so reckless. Not for him. Not when he just found out that the universe must have born from one of your kisses, because nothing could ever feel as godly as your lips on his.
"I thought..." you gasped as you tried to speak throught the pain he could clearly see. "I thought we were..."
Dangerous were the words that could follow. But he needed to hear them. He needed to hear them in order to destroy them.
"What?" It was easy using his mockying voice. It was easy protecting you from him. "What did you think we were?"
He saw in your eyes you were searching for the right word. He dreaded you would find it. Not now. You couldn't know now. Because if you did, he wasn't sure he would control himself and go away.
"Friends..." your voice was broken, but not from the pain of your throat. "I thought we were friends."
Friends.
After five hundreds years of living on that earth Eris finally understood the meaning of the word 'devastated'. He felt devastated. His soul was being ripped apart and he was the one doing it.
You had considered him a friend.
Nothing could ever compare to it. Not mates. Not partners. Not family.
Friends.
Something you choose to be. Something you work hard to be. Something that in his world had never existed. Had someone ever considered him a friend? Had he ever considered someone a friend?
He would endure the horrors on his life another thousands times if it meant being worthy of being your friend. Worthy of being called such. Worthy of your trust, and not because a bond told you so but because you had decided it on your own.
And you did. You had actually choosen to give him your trust, to call him your friend. And now he was breaking it. Stripping himself from the honor of that word.
He laughed. At you. At himself. At the Mother for having given him something so perfect while he would never be able to have it. He laughed because he felt he would cry otherwise. He laughed because he wanted nothing more than kneel in front of you and beg for forgiveness.
"I don't need your pathetic excuse of a friendship. I need your power." Never in his life had words left such a bitter taste in his mouth. "Do something useful and keep training it."
He didn't need the bond to know how much his words hurt you, because you were letting him see everything on your beautiful face. You were letting him see how he was breaking the trust you had in him piece after piece.
You gulped, and he traced every movements with his eyes, wondering if this would be the last time he saw you for a very long time.
He saw in you eyes that you wanted to say something, but he guessed you decided that he was not worth the pain in your throat, and he surely was not.
He watched as you silently walked out of the suit, unaware that you were taking away a piece of his heart with you. A piece he had willingly, stupidly gave you.
He watched as the door closed behind you, as the silence that followed filled his ears. As the damage he had done took form in the emptiness he felt inside him.
“You know, Eris,” Cassian said, a hand wrapping around the doorknob ready to follow you. “I think you might be a decent male, deep down, trapped in a terrible situation.”
Eris scoffed, hating the pity look that the General was giving him. Cassian out of everyone should hate him. Both for what he presumely did to Mor and for what he just saw.
"You should be happy your little 'sister' won't speak with a monster like me ever again." If with you every word had been strecthed, with Cassian was easy. A dance they had been doing for centuries. "A pity you are mated to her twin. I heard Illyrians have the habits of fucking their sisters."
Cassian studied the burned furniture around them, the only proof of the rage you had felt. The only proof that something glimmering gold tied Eris to you.
“I grew up surrounded by monsters. I’ve spent my existence fighting them. And I see you, Eris. You’re not one of them. Not even close. I think you might even be a good male.” Cassian opened the door, turning from Eris’s curled lip. “You’re just too much of a coward to act like one.”
FInally the Illyrian walked away, giving Eris the pleasure of the solitude. Alone he couldn't hurt anyone but himself. Alone no one could hurt him but himself.
He winnowed right back in his bedroom back at the secret cottage he owned deep in the forest of the Autumn Court, close to the border of Winter. Everything was still, unmoving. He had not been able to go there for over two months.
Every window was rightfully closed, every fire out, and in the darkness of the house he could not bring himself to regret what he had done. Memories of your lifeless body hunted his mind, because you had died.
He had never noticed how a second was long, and he had not been prepared when for twenty-three long seconds your heart had stopped beating. For twenty-three long seconds his life had lost any meaning. For twenty-three long seconds he had wished to be dead.
Eris had grabbed into the bond, he had grabbed it with teeth and claws, and had begged you to stay while Azriel had held him down with his shadows and Cassian tried to reanimate you. He had yelled at you to come back. He had show you the image of the cottage, of the Autumn's forest around it, of his hounds peacefully sleeping in the grass. He had promised you to show you all of it if you came back.
You could not breath, he had realized while Cassian tried to make your heart beat again. You could not breath for the damaged he had caused you. So Eris had grabbed a hold on your power too, he had found the last strike of flames left in you and healed you from the inside. It had not been much, but it had been enough to allow the air to enter in you again.
You had died for twenty-three seconds.
Eris could live without a mate. He had done it for five hundreds years. He had never wanted one. Never needed one. But it had been in the brightness of the day, as the sunlight hit the falling leaves of the trees, as the sounds of his hounds running through the forest filled his ears, that he realized he could not live without you.
A/N: I do have a question: The Eris in your head has long or short hair? I was talking about it with a new dear friend of mine and I am curious about your opinions!

🍁🦊~ Lord of Foxes ~ 🦊🍁
Updated

Felt like Little Luci needed some attention and a makeover. Couldn’t leave my favourite ACOTAR character with crusty old rendering, so he deserved an update.
This was the fanart that started it all not even a year ago. Oh how time flies 🍂
