Iceland honeymoon day 8 - Diamond Beach and Vatnajokull glacier!

Okay so Diamond Beach was really impressive and I can understand why it's such a popular tourist destination 😁. The fine black sand contrasting with icebergs of all shapes and sizes on the beach, the shoreline, and out in the water was absolutely incredible. I've never seen anything like it. We also walked around Jokulsarlon, the glacier lagoon where we'll go on a boat tour tomorrow. I especially loved seeing the big icebergs break apart and drift down towards the open water / diamond beach.

In the afternoon we did a glacier hike on Vatnajokull glacier, which is the biggest glacier in Europe. It has over 30 outlet glaciers stemming from it, and our hike was on Fjallsjokull. It was really fun! We were outfitted with a harness (only to be used in emergencies), a helmet, ice axe, and crampons. Aside from doing 'Viking pushups' to drink the glacier water (stick your axe across the stream, put your hands on the stick and lower into a push-up to drink from the stream), and taking creative pictures to look like we were legit ice climbing 😂, we even experienced the glacier shift/move! There was suddenly a hissing kind of sound and the circular holes of water in the area started bubbling from the pressure of the shift - super cool!
