Balthazar gestures at the sword. "You’ve already killed Rachel. You’re about to kill me. And did you know that woman Dean Winchester tried to save died too?”
"What?" says Castiel, badly thrown. "Lisa Braeden is dead?"
"I thought you knew." Balthazar folds his arms. "A demon ruined her body while she and the boy were Crowley’s prisoners. By the time the Winchesters thought to summon me instead of you, she was already gone.”
since this is a season 6 fixit, we chronologically started with the moment castiel killed balthazar and rewrote it. two fun facts here: firstly, we started this verse before 6.21 aired and we were SO SURE lisa was gonna bite it we wrote it into our verse. whoops. turns out the premise of most fix-its (”if you change this one thing it could all be different”) works well here though because we can just say the reasons cas didn’t, uh, Do That (cas breaking sam’s wall on purpose is CHARACTER ASSASSINATION I WILL KILL SERA GAMBLE MYSELF) is because she dies, or...something. rip 🙏
secondly, we have no canon location for crowley’s lab, so we decided it was in bootbock kansas because that’s a funny name for a town.

(Tiger anon again) So...I’m kinda curious: just how many fandom fixits (like ShiroAllura’s “The Space Between The Stars”) or continued AUs—BossToaster’s and VelkinKarma’s CloneRyou-centric fics come to mind—are spawning because VeeLaDee’s an absolute MESS, but none of us are ready to move on yet. (Btw, if you plan on turning “Falling” into a greater Verse, or A Wild Lisa Appears into a future fixit/AU series beyond a few oneshots, I’d totally read it. Your stuff is phenominal.)
This ties perfectly into my other ask. The EPs may have done their best to make sure the story ended with them and was too broken to ever go anywhere else - but it just shows how very ignorant they are and always have been of both what makes fandom what it is -
and what makes a story a story.
VLD will end when we, the fans, say it ends. When we are finally as satisfied with it as we will get and we can finally put it down. Until then its still our story and its still a living story. It’s simply a story that’s grown out of its original boundaries. One that’s now free to become so much more than it was hacked into being. Stories live as long as people are willing to tell them and every story is told in a new way each time someone tells it. That’s what makes stories great - and what makes humans so great with their need to tell them.
(and thank you. I’m very flattered. Right now I have no intentions of turning Falling into anything but a clone rescue mission so those boys can finally get the fair shake at a try that they deserve. But I will agree there are some amazing fix-it fics coming out of a lot of different places by excellent writers and as for a Wild Lisa appearing - patience yields focus tiger anon. I might have heard rumors of a fix it fic with her in it by someone whose stories I always adore ;)

Meet the Veeladee Reboot 20s Gang!
Veronica: Data Analyst and Lance’s older sister. She mostly works Earth-Side to be closer to her large family (and to keep an eye on her little brother). She’s constantly pestered with requests for DeepSpaceMissions but keeps turning most of them down, at least until after Lance graduates. She likes her work HERE, thankyouverymuch, and it’s just as important as what the “space colonists and explorers” do. (She’s also Lance’s confidant about his initial placement as a cargo pilot—while he’s got the personality to work with a team and deliberate skills to carry passengers and supplies into space in one piece, in his eyes the “fighter pilots do the COOL Stuff” when in reality it’s that he’d get extremely homesick in space—proven when she mildly mentions that Lisa’s a cargo pilot and Shiro prefers those missions over prototype testing as well.)
Ginger: Earth-side engineer, and Hunk’s older sister and personal hero. Like Veronica she enjoys Earth-side work for the chance to be closer to her parents and brother (and to make sure her friends BEHAVE), but also takes several space missions to oversee how beta testing’s going. She’s also one of the major brains behind the GG’s advancements in astronaut food and food storage...somewhat motivated by her mild horror of her roommate Lisa describing growing up on the stuff and not having much of a taste for Fresh Foods vs dehydrated, frozen, or canned. (Matt practically worships the ground she walks on as a result, since Sam is almost as bad after each space mission.)
Lisa: Cargo Pilot (and proud of it—who do you think goes on those space missions and what they actually are?), and Moon Colonist. She mostly takes transport assignments between Earth, Luna, and various Inner Solarsystem Stations. Having a chance to visit her family and “village” without taking time off...AND still getting the stars?? Two birds, one stone. After the “Kerberos Failure” she switches to doing Earth-Based Alpha Testing (aka, “fighter class” piloting) or Luna Transport exclusively to keep her friends and family close. She and Shiro are very close as flight partners and their shared love of space and preference for Space Missions (even if it’s just short transport trips vs uncharted territory...although yeah getting to go on the exploration missions is pretty sweet.) Lisa and Ginger also “agree to disagree” when it comes to cooking, though the arguments are mostly playful and Lisa is Ginger’s preferred partner to test out New Astronaut Food (and actually make it taste like more than just “it came straight from a can”). Which...also means she’s better at making sure the Shirogane Twins actually have a stocked pantry of stuff they can cook without burning the place down or neglecting it to spoil because “too much effort when they could be doing __ instead”. She also has enough of an interest in anthropology that she worked on getting her Masters in it along side a few minors in various languages and her piloting liscense and batchlor’s degree in astrophysics. (SO many late nights studying and joking comments about Timeturners as she commuted between the GG and a local univesity and fighting to get her credits to balance out. And all that student debt has her splitting rent with Ginger and Veronica in a GG Issued Apt vs having a place of her own.)
Ryou: Engineer, and Takashi’s younger twin. (He’s probably worse about the leapyear jokes than Shiro...) PreKerb he pretty evenly split his time between SpaceMissions with either working as Ship Engineer or overseeing SpaceTesting or working on initial builds on Earth...well until the GG suddenly gets a stick up their ass about Shiro’s piloting career when his twin has to switch to a different treatment for his epilepsy. Then he’s working almost exclusively on Earth Projects to better support his brother while he’s Grounded, and completely obsesses over the Kerberos Mission’s Shuttle to ease Taka’s unspoken anxiety and to get the GG to stfu after Taka’s finally cleared to do more than PR and Recruitment. Post “Kerberos Failure” he falls into a deep depression and obsesses over the shuttle’s designs, convinced he’s somehow at fault vs Taka. Once he climbs back out of it, he redetermines to keep an eye on a recently expelled Keith (which needing to be there for someone else helps keep his own depression symptoms in check), and rejoins the analysis of the “Failure” now that he accepts he’s not in it alone to figure out what happened to his twin and his best friend and his dad.

In Fixit vs Reboot? Lisa, Ginger, and Veronica form a 3-persons crew to investigate the Kerberos Disaster and end up running into Team Voltron that way. The only reason why they weren’t at the Launch was because they already had their own space missions at the time—they still kept in steady contact with Shiro and Matt and definitely noticed when the Kerberos Crew stopped contacting them. (Sadly, no Ryou in fixit. Reboot’s partially exists to still work with my own version of him.)

*Team Voltron and Team Sincline girls spy Jiro’s long hair*
Ryou: “...Because I love you dearly, brother dearest, I suggest you run.”
Shiro: “Seconded. I’ll distract them.”
Lotor: “...save...yourself. It’s too late for me!!!”
Jiro: “Oh come on, you guys are being dramatic. It’s not that bad...is it??”
Pidge: “Rest in pieces, SpaceLoki.”
Lotor: “What does that even mean???”

Headcanon:
After the “Kerberos Failure” Ryou takes a leave of absense and retreats to his and Shiro’s shack, shuttering out the light and letting the utility companies turn off the water and electricity. Lisa goes to check on her friend and gets the place cleaned back up and calls to have the utilities turned back on, with their other friends chipping in to cover Ryou’s tab.
Ryou finally admits that despite the official report saying “pilot error” he doesn’t believe that for one second and instead poured over the specs he helped create only...to find nothing. It’s about this time that Iverson gleefully spouts “Pilot Error” one too many times and Keith’s expelled. Ryou immediately arrives to collect Keith, feeling guilty about dropping out of the cadet’s life, too, and determined to at least give the kid the support he needs now.
Lisa checks in on Ryou and Keith at least once a week to make sure both guys are actually taking care of themselves. Meanwhile, Pidge isn’t the only one suspicious about that “official report”—Ginger and Veronica are just a lot more subtle about how they go about reanalyzing the Kerberos Mission’s data, albeit admittedly easier since they’ve actually got that clearance for at least some of it (although, they don’t hold out much hope. Unless “aliens” are somehow involved, Shiro and the Holts are long dead regardless. But...they make sure not to say that to anyone else; sure it’s the elephant in the room, but they’ve got tact.) Veronica and Ginger also “accidentally” leave the doors open or redirecting curfew routes and making up coverstories for Pidge etc as the cadet continues her own investigation (buuut...never discovers her behind the scenes help).
Back at the Shack, Lisa supplies Ryou with copies of the data and the others’ notes, now that he’s in a better headspace to go over them himself. Lisa assists Ryou where she can, but ultimately ends up studying the hyrogliphs surrounding the Blue Lion’s cavern with Keith—and although some are definitely made by humans and have the markers of being made by specific tribes? Quite a few are Definitely Alien as they couldn’t have been made by any known past or present tools or tecniques.
Suddenly the chance of Shiro, Matt, and Sam actually being alive (albeit most likely abducted by hostile aliens...) seems a lot more plausible.
Lisa’s production of origami stars gradually slows as she has Something Else to devote her energy towards, and the Kerberos Team actually being alive might be more than just a fool’s hope.

...so...if Lisa’s essentially the result of moon colonist parents saying “hey, we live here now, this is real,” then she probably witnessed first hand the transition from canned rations to greenhouse farming to fullblown terraformed terraniums that doubled as experiments for Space Colonization as well as much needed greenspaces for the MoonFolk in her childhood.
(I’m also going with they long worked out how to successfully generate Earth-like gravity within the stations and ships to avoid many of the hypogravity health issues that plagued early astronauts well before the GG decided “hey...to get to the rest of the solar system and beyond...we...kinda need more starions, and stations that are essentially pernament residences for teams of scientists.”)

...I think Lisa, Veronica, and Ginger are stuck being the ones making sure Allura, Matt, and the Twins actually go to bed at a decent hour vs overworking.
‘Cause depsite SpaceDad and SpaceUncle and Matt being sticklers about making sure the younger Paladins actually Go To BED!!!—
(Especially Pidge, Hunk, and Keith. Lance occationally gives Jiro a hard time about technically being chronologically older.)
—they’re beyond hypocritical about doing “just one more Thing!!!” vs taking their own advice.
...the Alteans still sometimes forget about Human Needs vs Altean Needs to be much help chasing everyone to bed to Actually REST.
-
It’s an open secret that the Twins and Matt and Allura are all subconciously trying to avoid sleep and therefore nightmares, so sometimes it takes some special manipulation to get their brains to wind back down and actually achieve peaceful rest. Veronica often tackles herding Matt while Ginger Allura, and Lisa is responsible for the Twins.
Matt, Allura, and the Twins are typically aware of what the other young adults are doing, but usually try to oblidge, anyway.

Matt also completely wears out “Hello Earthlings” and variations thereof.
Shiro promptly ignores him at this point.
Lisa offers Matt an emptied out jam jar full of origami stars while saying it’s “from home” straight-faced to her fellow “alien”.
Headcanon: Sam and Coleen met after both being stationed on a colony, and Matt’s not Terran (while Katie is.)

Fixit Verse: an angst bucket, because there’s so much to sift through even without my addition of Jiro becoming the Time Paladin. (Ginger and Lisa are here, too, with Matt and Veronica joining the gang, but sadly no Biological Twin Ryou. And the friendgroup didn’t attend the launch or break Shiro out ‘cause they were already in space on their own missions. They prolly tried to still send messages to Pidge and Keith when they could, but they got blatantly ignored.)
Reboot AU: still has angst? But feels a bit more campy to me since Shiro and Allura actually get their own peer group ‘cause I’m self indulgant (and wanting to see the Castle returned to its true glory, and certain events chains play out differently, but still had so much potential.)
Also, blacktashi in both verses?
Kicking Shiro out of the cockpit and then absorbing him were both Hailmary’s to keep him away from Haggar.
(He’s also floating around as Treckie Transporter Particles. He’s still very much alive vs dead...but...needing to be put back together. And the blast combined with “this hasn’t been done Like THAT before...” kinda has Black out of commission and unable to make the fix herself. And we can always use more Power of Friendship, anyway that DOESN’T actually kill someone.)
Shiro very much is Black’s Paladin, but his insecurities and their rough patches get explored. (Easier to do with Jiro in one and Ryou&Co in the other. Shiro can actually allow himself to speak freely to his brothers in a way he struggles to with a bunch of cadets/teens and a grieving, desperate alien princess who both NEED him to be strong (even though...nobody really expects him to be Okay))
#tiger’s musings#writing wip sorta#veeladee fixit#veeladee reboot au#the *only* reasons why shiro vanishes in reboot is to have PoF and blacktashi.#it’s also shortened to a week vs being years long. with his friends not giving up on finding him/more emphasis on their grieving hope#they...just happen to be looking in the wrong places.#but leave it to his brothers in both Verses to figure it out#Jiro ‘cause there’s something WRONG#Ryou ‘cause he has the strongest bond with Shiro than anyone that Black can actually use (and hey he’s an engineer)#but actually getting Shiro Out vs Found requires the LionGoddess and VoltronBonds
