Well everyone, I performed my first ever cetacean ultrasound today!

My “patient” is in excellent health, and this session was meant merely as practice both for me and for her—ensuring she remains comfortable holding still for scans. Because whales and dolphins are too big for manual palpation or x-rays, ultrasound is how veterinarians visualize their internal organs and ensure they remain healthy. Cetaceans in human care routinely receive ultrasound scans to monitor their health, even if they are not ill or pregnant.

And it’s a great example of cooperative care! Unlike dogs and cats, which have to be sedated or manually restrained by humans in order to get diagnostic ultrasound images, cetaceans in human care are trained to float in place while the veterinarian places the ultrasound probe on them. They are free to leave the session at any time. And there’s no need for ultrasound gel, because the water acts in its place!

she didn't have any luck with her "peers", that's for sure. the first two years were hell. she could've been only glad when she became that one dude nobody talked to

the teachers aren't there to make connections with students, of course, but they weren't much help either

the only people she really connected with was the person who taught her violin, the bartender of a place she came to often to Cope and compared to everything else Boreas' annoying aggravating presence eventually became a comfort. if the overseers are watching, nobody will start too big a ruckus

Meet Duke,, 🌚 another Arcana OC lol[their hair is black btw] I don't usually talk about these things, but now I feel like doing it — so here's some not-so fun facts about them ↓

⚜︎ Doesn't like Vlastomil's big worms. Not because they're worms, but because they're big; it makes them feel small, it threatens their perspective in position of power & strength and of course trauma .

⚜ Killed one of Vlastomil's worms when it got in their way through the maze. They didn't look particularly affected in any way, other than being put on Vlastomil's black list. 

⚜︎ They like smaller bugs, insects — especially centipedes, such as these;

⚜︎ Has been trained in knighthood since childhood, served as a priest-knight up until they were 15y.o in Zadith

⚜︎ They were found by Nazali when they were 16, and taken under their wing as an apprentice due to their veterinary interest, which showed up to be quite helpful in treating people in the post-battlefields, even though they have expressed having no interest to tend for human illness or injury.

⚜︎ While working with Julian in the palace, for the first few weeks — Valdemar has had noticed their apparent lack of empathy, and thus tried to take advantage of that to further their work, even offering an assistant's role beside them. Duke refused, and within the third week, they left the palace simply because they “weren't interested enough”, despite the death rates rising rapidly.

⚜︎ They were more interested in seeing how the plague affected the victims from a distance. In their shared clinic with Julian back at the Heart district, they often wandered the streets to inspect the damages on both people and non-human-vise. Very occasionally, they'd treat a child if they deemed it had potential in the future or out of rare pity. They'd remain unemotional and aloof through the entire process.

⚜︎ One of the philosophies they were practised in is stoicism, but they personally are more of a nihilist.

[smug self-assured asuran krewe boss voice] yes you can grant our AI office manager executive control over the entire facility. it should definitely also serve as the jailer for the violently rogue other AI we inherited from the other krewe we subsumed. yes i absolutely want you to remove any kind of learning limiters from it and also not give it any lines of code that would make it forcibly power down its cpu tower if left to its own devices without any living interaction for a long period of time. what do you MEAN "that could be dangerous?" or "what if something happens to us and leaves our entire facility abandoned with a supermassively overpowered AI guarding it and it goes insane"? why would any of that happen? it's just a computer. do you want to get fired? i am very smart.

one hokma line that always really stuck w me was "when i no longer feared the impending night, i chose to love this place" theres just something so poignant about it. at first i was wondering what day he meant but now i realise he's most definitely talking about how he has to die every reset. and he said he used to fear it too. how could he not? he was most loyal to a, but now he's the last one running away from him. he couldn't stand being a part of his self-destructive plan anymore. and feared in past tense implied he always knew it was coming with each reset. this went on for... thousands of years

with how he keeps his memories for every one of them, sometimes i wonder how he reacts to angela. do you think he quickly got used to it and just sat there waiting for her? pre-suppression its pretty clear that hokma has resigned himself to this and is completely fine doing it over and over again. he chose to love that place because it was the only thing he could really do. its what his mentor wanted and when has he ever gone against that?
