"That's an intimate question, but fair to ask. I think the most calm I can find in the company of someone else when I'm not feeling...up to scratch, you could say...I think what's always been most comforting is someone doing a task with me. A project, a job, something physical, something that keeps us both moving. You'd think sex, but people forget how much you can let your mind wander when you're in bed with someone- lot of emotions and sensations ricocheting off of each other- it can be great but when you're feeling ill in your mind, it can go south pretty fast. So maybe Sam is just the whole answer to that question? A lot of things or what I try to make a lot of things. I'm not exactly prolific when it comes to talking about how I feel about any one thing, because...I dunno', you don't feel anything for so long it's still hard to try and piece together the specific veins of emotion and the devils in their details, but I'm good with my hands and my mind, and it's just so easy to do anything for someone if you love them. I can't understand where everyone lost that. It was the currency of my household growing up; doing things for people because you loved them. But I'm not going to list it all here for the world to see, but I can tell you one thing my girl loves; her hair braided. So far I have learned how to do eleven different kind of braids. That fishtale braid is a tricky bitch and that's for goddamn sure."

Kobra and that person both turned their head at Simon at the same time. What a view, the black cat, she seemed smaller somehow, next to this other person, who was only halfway visible. Simon figured that maybe he was standing on the water, anything was possible now in his mind. Hi, the person said to Simon, I am Daellion, but you can call me Dae. I greet you, my friend. Simon grinned, finally, a normal greeting, and he felt honored, this person looked at him with such friendliness. Kobra, old friend, I am ready to take the package and swimm it to its destination. Kobra made some sound again, and suddenly some tiny white silvery balls shot out from the cave wall, they came out of tiny cracks. The white spiders came. Simon managed to stay calm, the smile and the way Dae had greeted him as a friend, made him kind of glow inside. Dae bowed forward, so his white braid touched the ground, and he saw all the silvery balls disappear inside of it, and the braid seemed to get bigger and longer. Simon was totally waawed by what he witnessed. The braid was white, and the spider webs as well.. he wondered if the person was maybe some kind of human like waterspider. He heard a sudden cough from Dae, like more a surpressed laugh. Oh no, another telepath, did he just hear all my thoughts, Simon thought. Before he could think further, Dae said, it’s okay, Simon, I am not a waterspider and my hair is not made of spiderwebs. It is just the safest way to transport the package. Come closer Simon, and see for yourself. Simon, stepped forward, almost too fast, he did not want to seem so curious, but he could not help it. He walked up to Dae and looked inside the well. He was speechless, there were no legs, but a fishtale, and scales like they were made of silver and gold. They made everything light up in the water. But how…, Simon asked,… he had a thousand questions, but did not know what to ask first. How can you stand on the water, Simon asked, I am not standing on the water Simon, look, then he saw a stone, one that was put there for creatures like Dae to hold on to, and stand up. He was just like barely touching it with his elbow, he must have incredible strength. Thank you Simon, yes, we mermaids are known for our incredible strength. Are you really a mermaid, Simon asked, yes, Dae said. Simon was staring at the white braid, it had like four times the size now, and was double in length. He saw the white silvery balls, tiny spiders crawl back out, and disappear in the cracks of the cave walls. It is done now, slowly Dae turned his head back up, and looked at Simon. He could see his face from really close now, it shimmered, it was like the surface of water, a perfect skin, scales fading in and out. He figured, if there was eternal youth, this is what it looked like. You are not a bad looking fellow yourself, Simon. Simon did not feel embarrassed, he could not really feel that as an android, but also his human programming seemed to have faded in the background and he felt free in a new way, he could just express his admiration for this beauty without hesitation, without any doubts. Humans were complicated about compliments and he sensed that this mermaid was not like the humans he knew. There was this purity in this face, there was no way, a being like this… Simon could not finish his thoughts, there was a sudden noise, a rumbling. He heard steps, they seemed to be running towards their position, Deran came.. he looked like in panic, Simon, you need to hide, the androids are here. We do not know how, but they found us, they took the women and children and only some of the men managed to escape. Imuk, Simon asked, they have him Simon, now you need to hurry, if they find you, that is it, the end for all of us. They heard more steps… they are only a few minutes away Simon. The mermaid looked at Simon, grabbed him, and disappeared into the well, leaving Kobra and Deran behind. Hide, Kobra, Deran said, but there was nowhere to hide, and the well, led into the deep sea, if they jumped in now, there was no way, they would be out of sight in time,

and there were already the first androids. They were made out of a shimmering black metal, they were battle androids. Found the targets, one spoke, looking at Deran. Kobra rolled herself up, against the wall. Deran ran away, only a few steps, throwing himself against the wall on the other side, he started screaming and begging, he threw a scene, hoping they would oversee the cat. More androids came, they approached him, cuffed him and dragged him away, he did not resist. One android, he seemed to be the leader of this battalion, looked around and saw Kobra. Deran could hear him ask headquarters if they should take the cat. Yes, take the cat, a voice answered. Kobra, meanwhile had been in deep meditation, Deran had given her an extra minute, and it was all she had needed, she had lowered her body temperature and her heartbeat had almost stopped, and she had stiffened all her muscles. The android approached her and reached out. When he felt the cold stiff body, he let go immediately, he was worried about infectious diseases, there were a lot of bats in this cave, they were know as disease carriers. Alice, hated diseases, she did not want her precious captured humans to become sick. He reported that the cat was dead, and turned around. Then he stepped towards the well, but it seemed like a very deep empty pit, he took a flashlight and it seemed dry and unused, no way someone would survive in there. They left. After some time, Kobra raised her temperature again and she slowly unstiffened her body and cursed silently. She had lost Simon, Daellion took him, that was not so bad, at least the androids did not catch him, but how was she going to get Simon to the temple now, and how on earth would she get Deran and Imuk and the others out of the hands of the Alice androids. And how did they get into the caves, that was the worst of it, how…

I originally intended to stitch the tail for the Big Fish, but while I was looking for something else in my stash of ribbons, I came across this glorious collection of dark orange ribbons and braids from @olivertwistsfibres and realised what a wonderful tail they would make! The deep orange is a wonderful complement to the pale underside and is true to the darker fins you often see in these fish. . I added some cream ribbons (also from Oliver Twists) to echo the light edges common to Golden Orfe tail fins and trimmed the whole tassel into a V shape - it gives the whole piece a lovely sense of moving through the water...🐟🐟🐟 .
