But still won't erase the fact that he's ready to do everything for other people except for his wife.
Remember the dog bowl incident in Spare? He physically fought Harry because his staffs are getting mistreated but where is this energy for Kate?
William didn't have to make it obvious that after a decade Hilary Mantel continues to be right. Kate is just designed to sire an heir and now she's of no use because she's done with that.
Wow, someone who believes Harry's version of events as the full truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when even Harry disclosed that he doesn't know what's true of his memory or not.
You must be new here because:
In 2012, William sued the pap and the magazine that published topless photos of Kate. At the time, Kate was on a private property and had a reasonable expectation of privacy to be topless in the first place.
In 2018, William threatened lawsuits when people began alleging that he was cheating on Kate.
In 2021, William confronted a pap that was stalking his family and scaring his children. The pap recorded the encounter and posted it online.
In 2015, William issued his own KP statement to protect Kate and then-baby George from paparazzi stalking and harassment.
In the 2000s, William dropped friends who invaded his and Kate's privacy and leaked about them to the press.
In 2015 and in 2022, William moved his family twice out of the fishbowl of central London, away from media and paparazzi harassment.
In 2020, William had Tatler edit a published article to remove an insulting reference to Kate and her family?
In 2018 and in 2019, William kicked Harry out of Kensington Palace and the Royal Foundation because of how he and Meghan were treating his family, in addition to his staff.
In 2018, William supported Kate's decision to pull Charlotte out of bridesmaid dress fittings for Harry's wedding.
In 2010, William is the one who insisted for The Queen and the BRF to include Kate's family as often as possible.
In 2024, William let Kate prioritize her health and not work during her chemo treatments and in her recovery.
In 2024, William leaked the hacking (or attempted hacking) of Kate's medical records to put everyone on notice.
In 2024, William stopped releasing his family's photographs to the media after the Mother's Day fiasco. They're now posted only to their official social media now, instead of distributed to the rota.
In 2021, William accompanied Kate to the elementary school the day after the Sussexes' Oprah interview aired in the UK. The event had been announced as, and was only ever expected to be, a solo Kate appearance and he joined her so she didn't have to handle the press or confront them by herself.
In 2014 when Charles's comments about the Middletons getting more time with George were leaked and published, William didn't change a thing about how he and Kate were raising George. He made Charles change his habits to fit in time with George.
Iin 2019 when a plastic surgeon claimed Kate was his boxtox patient and he was using her photos in his advertising, William had the palace intervene with a cease-and-desist. (I'll remind you: the issue here is not that they wanted to hide Kate's botox use, but that they wanted a doctor to stop fraudulently claiming she was his patient.)
And William insists on traveling with his family together instead of separately, per protocol. That's not a guy who finds his wife useful only to bear him children; that's a guy who can't picture his life without her. (And before you tell me "actually no, that's a guy forcing his wife to take care of their children because he can't be bothered," no, it's not, because if that was the case, then William would travel separately from all of them and require Kate travel with all the kids, but that is not the case, because William is on that same plane/helicopter/car with them.)

Writer Spotlight - KitCat992
This week we're hearing from @kitcat992, the author of the Identity Saga of which Identity Theft won The All-Time Favorite Award in 2023
Summary:
It's been months since the events of Civil War, and the Avengers are doing their best to remain a team, having promised to forgive and forget. Unfortunately for them, Tony Stark's latest invention has been stolen and recovering it causes tension to reappear. Meanwhile, in Queens, Peter Parker has two main priorities on his plate — complete his midterm finals, and track down a fishbowl wearing criminal that may or may not lead him right into the hands of the Avengers. Somehow between all of this, Spider-Man's identity is revealed to the Avengers, Steve and Tony's friendship may permanently be damaged due to continued hidden secrets, and Happy struggles to buy a youth-sized casket for Peter's funeral. Things were a lot easier when they were fighting over Bucky Barnes. (Or: The Avengers welcome Peter into their crazy superhero family and will do anything to protect him.)
How did you get into Irondad?
The MCU definitely did the trick for me! It was Infinity War specifically that actually drew me in. I’ve been a Spidey fan since I was a young girl, dating back into the late-late 90’s. So by the time Civil War came out, I was a jaded adult watching the film with a lot of feelings of disrespect when seeing Tony’s (at the time perceived) forced hand into Peter’s story. I’ve actually been open in talking about this before, because in hindsight it’s hilarious. I laugh quite often looking back on this. It was Homecoming that completely changed my perspective. It made me feel like there may be an opportunity for something new and totally fresh with Spider-Man, after seeing the same origin story told over and over and over again. Both on film and in the comics. Things got stale and boring, and the MCU gave light to something that could’ve been really original and new. I fell head-over-heels for a teenage Peter Parker, because as a huge Ultimate Spider-Man fan here, they already won me over with that one. And just like the Ultimate Comics, I loved the idea of Peter being guided into Superhero-ism by all those that came before him, while still branching out and doing his own thing. It ticked all my boxes. I was excited. With Infinity War, something just pulled me right in. Suddenly the idea of Tony having a hand in Peter Parker’s story was enthralling to me. As someone who has always gravitated towards pseudo father/son relationships in fandoms (along with a hearty aspect of team-as-a-family trope) I immediately consumed all tiny little bread crumbs we got in that movie. Retrospect gave me an even deeper love for Homecoming, having re-watched it with brand new eyes. And here we are today, where I’m still writing the two as if it were 2018. The MCU never panned out, unfortunately. It went in all the wrong directions and makes me wonder if we’re living in the “bad timeline”, as they say. But I still hold onto that “what could’ve been.” I hold onto it because I’ve never forgotten that first feeling of how special these two felt. How the concept, the idea, the what-could’ve-been — it all felt so original, so different, so unique. Everything with Superheroes had gotten stale and boring, repetitive and the same. This wasn’t that. We never saw it flesh out the way it should’ve been on film, but that feeling of uniqueness of what they could’ve been stays with me today, and it’s why I still enjoy writing them both as much as I do. Long story short, Irondad is every single box of mine ticked off.
☑ Spider-Man ☑ Iron man ☑ Pseudo father/son relationship ☑ Peter Parker as a teenager ☑ Peter Parker as a teenager AND growing into an adult guided by someone who came before him ☑ Basically the Ultimate Comics on film ☑ Tony Stark developing further as a character ☑ Tony Stark being a mentor and/or being emotionally attached to a pseudo son ☑ Tony Stark. Duh
What’s your favorite Irondad scene?
“Pete, you gotta let go — I’m going to catch you.” When did you start writing and what made you sit down and write that first story?
I was 9 years old when I began writing. It was when fanfic.net had just popped into the realm of things, and fanfiction grabbed my interest far more than any of the fiction books at the library. It’s always ticked something for me, to read more about characters I’ve already become established with. And because of that, the first ever story I wrote was a fanfiction, specially for the 2002 Spider-Man movie. It was not good. But I’ve been writing ever since! Here and there and everywhere. Sprinkled throughout fandoms, always under a different alias, it seemed. KitCat has been my longest venture so far, and that’s entirely thanks to the Identity Saga. I’ve decided that if I ever take off for another alias from here, it’ll be on the published side of things. Not because I want to make any sort of money off writing (ha! It’s truly not a profitable source of income) but rather because I really friggin love telling stories. It’s fun. What do you like about writing most?
Seriously, it’s FUN. Being able to bring the scenes that are stuck in my head to life in written word? It’s a challenge, it’s a pain in the ass, it’s frustrating as hell, and it’s fun. I’ve been practicing writing since I was a kid, and while I’m absolutely no professional at it, I love that I’ve sharpened my skill set well enough that I can re-read my own work and feel as if I’m watching something happen in live-action. I’ve always been a person of heavy imagination, which in turn created a sort-of “cinematic” writing style. Because I’m far too poor to ever make a movie, writing is the next best thing to free all the stories that run rampant in my head. It’s fun, I really enjoy it. Which of your stories is your favorite and why?
It’s not a singular story, but I’m incredibly proud of the Identity Saga. What started as a far fetched dream to actually complete a lengthy series has somehow, beyond my understanding, become reality. I started with the intent of just completing the first installment, and only creating enough cliff-hanging plot threads that wouldn’t ruin the story if I weren’t able to execute the concept in its entirety. It’s taken years, and will take a handful more, but the finish line is up ahead and having that concept executed with so many people interested in its completion…well, I just think that’s real nifty. What’s your favorite trope to write?
Found family, and whump. And many times, found family AND whump. What inspired the story?
Comic books. Simple as that. I grew up on comic books, with many being a monthly subscription Id get mailed to me — after much begging to my parents. I’ve always loved the tropey, corny, dramatic, fun, whimsical and fictional aspect of comic books, especially with superheroes. I’m sure there’s an answer behind that of which a therapist would love, but I simply allow myself to enjoy what I enjoy. :-P I had been in and out of the MCU fandom since the first Iron Man movie but dropped out when Civil War turned me off to the direction they had taken the characters — that being, the Avenger’s never actually being a team. I re-entered the fandom with Infinity War, because I had an intense false hope we’d seen an Avenger re-banding. You’re talking to someone who is all about the Avengers as a team, as friends, like the heyday of the cartoons. Anyhow, re-entering the fandom has immediately introduced me to Irondad, and sparked the flames from there. See: What got me into Irondad. As far as to what “inspired” the story, I really have no answer for that. I have a wild imagination, thanks to the aforementioned love of comic books. After seeing Infinity War, I had many daydreams that led into the concept of the Identity Saga. All I wanted to do was write this comic-booky, jambalaya of ideas story that made me happy. I wanted to see Irondad fleshed out in its entirety, I wanted to see Tony evolve into that Irondad-character the fandom saw potential for, and loved so much. I wanted to see Peter grow into Spider-Man, guided by his mentor and heroes he looked up to (seriously, Homecoming laid down groundwork for SO much and I’ll never see it any other way) I just wanted to see everything I’ve written so far, and everything I’ve yet to write, come to life. Words were the best way to do that. And to everyone who has drawn fan art for it along the way — you’ve made a girls dream come true. Can you tell us a little about the experience of writing it — did anything stand out or was there a particular person that helped more than others?
The experience of writing this story is a blur. It’s attached to momentum moments in my life that have gotten me where I am today. It’s literally a part of me in so many ways I can’t describe, and that’s weird. Ultimately though, I’m just proud of it. Sure, it’s faulty, sometimes clunky, definitely a show of work to the progress I’ve made in my writing. It has spelling errors that I’ve still ye to catch to this day. Paragraphs I’d like to re-word better, but still love for what it was. At the end of the day, it’s truly a display of the passion I’ve always had for these characters, and always will. How did you feel to be a winner of the Awards last year?
I’m very touched to be a winner, because to me that means many people have read and loved this story, and once again — I think that’s real nifty. The story is just my ideas and imagination put to words. How you read it, and how you perceive it…every person out there has their own vision of it, and I love knowing so many visions exist. It keeps Irondad alive.
Thank you so much for answering out questions, KitCat, and thank you for being a part of the 2023 Awards.
Nominations for the 2024 Awards will open July 1st so starting narrowing down your favorites.

Lover
The Lover video, the title track from Lover, is also brimming with Haylor references, some from Harry's later videos. Starting in Green the Benjamin photo is a reference to Olivia in Me!
Music Video
It opens on a Snowglobe and in the Lover Lounge Taylor said the whole Video was inspired by the line in You are In Love from 1989 "And so it goes you down are dancing around a snow globe"
youtube
Orange room they are on the ceiling, like the cover of Harry's house
The games are a reference to Scrabble, which Harry loves. Taylor also references playing Scrabble with Harry by text in the End Game Making of. Harry has posted about Scrabble on Insta and again in 2015 and again a game with his mum in 2013, in this video and photos by Georgina Fowler in 2013 and this collection of Harry's scrabble board photos.
The other games are lyric references, After glow is an apology, paired with king of my heart a YB song. On a scrabble board in a song about an affair.:.. my theory is that about half of this album and Harry’s Fine Line is about a Haylor affair. Breakable heaven & devils roll, are from cruel summer.
At dinner they eat Spaghetti, which Harry also eats in late night talking. This is an odd one, but the same joke was in this scene as this fan mail interview. When Harry reads it he seems surprised, then gets it and smiles.
The Red room features New Years Day, with the party and glitter on the floor after. He looks sad because they broke up after rather than staying to clean up bottles. 💔 However, in lover they have matured and commit in their own rules (not the 1950’s shit people want from her) so alls well that ends well to end up with you. ❤️ The beau's jacket references a Live on Tour suit of Harrys from Summer 2018.
The Style Video is referenced in the video projector room. This is also in the Lyric video for the song and both reference the home movies used in Style and 1989 promos.
The Fishbowl room is about Taylor's life being in a fish bowl and the muse being willing to jump into it. This is a Haylor Reference because Harry did, whereas other partners have been very private. Harry referenced this scene in the Adore You video where he had a fish that kept getting unmanageably large as he kept doing everything he can to care for it. The Adore Lyrics include: "Honey (ah) / I'd walk through fire for you / Just let me adore you" meaning he will jump in the bowl.
Taylor's yellow dress is very similar to Harry's yellow bird in Daylight.
Lyrics
In diary of a song Taylor tells how she wrote the lyrics in a night in Nashville flew to New York and finished the song that day. She said the song was about putting a spin on typical marriage themes. While often attributed to Joe, the title of ‘lover’ means not boyfriend/husband. The comments on a spin relate to committing to a non traditional relationship. She posted a bizarre thanks to Scott b in that same shirt when she changed label in nov 2018, though that date she was in Tokyo. It looks like maybe an earlier photo recording lover.
youtube
We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January And this is our place, we make the rules And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
In diary of a song Taylor said the first line is about making your own rules. The initial lyric was leaving the lights up till April. Taylor is telling us this is a non-traditional relationship where they set the rules.
20 seconds/20 years is referenced in Taylors Daylight. 20 (13+7) is in many Haylor songs. Mysterious ways is similar to in So it Goes Taylor refers to her muse as "my magician".
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home You're my, my, my, my Lover
Can I go where you go is a reference to wanting to be together despite their careers keeping them apart. Harry and Taylor have a lot lyrics about distance keeping them apart (Come back, be here, If I Could Fly, Love of my Life, Canyon Moon)
We could let our friends crash in the living room This is our place, we make the call And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want 'em all
When Harry and Taylor were first together neither had a fixed address, they spent a lot of time in hotels and referred to each other as home (Sweet Creature) They also both bought their current houses in that time, which explains the young adult lyric.
Taylor and Joe had been together for 3 summers, so maybe YB. However the song title is 'lover' not 'boyfriend' and she sings summers, not years. HS and TS had also been together for 3 summers: 2012, August 2013 & 2014. Other maybe times are fall 2016 and winter 2018 not Summer.
Gold Rush also talks about feeling suspicious that people who see Harry want him. It would have been very hard even for a popstar for a 23 year old to date this guy:
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand? With every guitar string scar on my hand I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue All's well that ends well to end up with you Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover And you'll save all your dirtiest jokes for me And at every table, I'll save you a seat, lover
In diary a song Taylor talked about a spin on marriage vows, like paper rings these songs are saying she will not marry either beau, one her lover who she wishes she could follow everywhere and the other her ‘not-shiny available boyfriend’
Taylor also uses Magnetic to describe her muse in Gorgeous, there in the context of not being able to hold back from them. Taylor also describes Harry as Magnetic in suburban legends.
The borrowed heart refers to the other people Taylor has dated during the on/off period. A blue heart is a reference to depression, something Harry has sung about in Falling and HS1. Blue is also the colour of 1989.
They are both overdramatic and true to each other. This line in particular separates YB and HS as the muse, YB is decidedly not overdramatic and seemed to tolerate it in TS.
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home (forever and ever) You're my, my, my, my Oh, you're my, my, my, my Darling, you're my, my, my, my Lover
In diary of a song Taylor talks about “can I go where you go” as a profound question, which it is if going where your lover goes means giving up one of your massive careers and engaging with Stan’s and tabloids. As explored in Anti-hero and Peace Taylor’s career is big enough to make anything hard, but the wording here of going where her beau goes implies the muse has their own challenges beyond hers. Taylor asking how can we make it work and fit in our lives together, how can we protect this connection.
Take me home, is in Style: "So it goes / He can't keep his wild eyes on the road, mm / Takes me home / The lights are off, he's taking off his coat, mm, yeah" they also sing about home a lot.
Finally, my "Lover" means a partner in a sexual or romantic relationship outside marriage, AKA not her BF.

God of War 2018 but it's Voryn Dagoth In Skyrim 2
Author's Note: This is my equivalent of the scene where Mimir figures out who Kratos is. Why is Vivec a greybeard? Because he realized being the god of a fishbowl he can't truly escape doesn't amount to much.
If I did this as a whole fic of its own it would be a sort of "well what the fuck do we do now" situation.
------------------------------------------------
They entered High Hrothgar.
Fate, it seemed, was laughing at him. He'd been content just to roam about with Mjoll, to settle briefly in Ivarstead (the farther from everything the better, he thought) when she fell pregnant. She'd married him but there'd been no mention of Houses, though she had asked if he was from one of the Great Houses.
It had been unfathomably painful to deny it. She would never have had him, if she knew what he really was.
Not that he was THAT anymore, as much as the dark voice in his mind tried to persuade him otherwise. He was better, alive by some grace or the other, and somewhere out there--
The greeting from Arngeir took place, and as he watched his daughter retreat to the courtyard, one of the other Greybeards approached him.
"And what do you seek here?" he asked. The tone was soft, familiar in a way he couldn't place.
"I was only here to ensure she got to this wretched freezing fort in one piece." He said, "I was content for us to make a life in adventuring, but it seems fate laughed at my plans."
"Fate laughs at us all, Voryn."
He stiffened, and turned to look at the Greybeard more closely. The hood was pulled over his eyes, and the beard was...split, one side black and the other white.
His fist clenched.
"What are you doing here?"
"What are YOU doing here?" The greybeard pulled back his hood, confirming all suspicions. The man before him was no nord, but a mer--Vivec, in fact.
"I simply woke up somewhere," he said, "Surrounded by weapons and left with a note that said only 'I could not bear to stay and see them glad at my truest friend's loss, whatever evil he may have committed.'"
The anger was there, but simmering on a back burner somewhere. It felt...hollow, at this late stage, despite how much his darker half wished to stoke it.
"He went to Akavir, and has never returned," Vivec said placidly, "Or at least, that I knew of. I never heard that your body had been moved."
"And I never heard that you left Morrowind."
A lengthy silence elapsed.
"Does your...new family know?"
"No," Voryn said, "And it's going to stay that way."
"It never stays that way." There was a faint smile, "They will find out eventually."
"But not through YOU."
"No," Vivec returned, "Not through me."

[The Sandman] Prompts & Ideas Masterlist
For you, Sandman fandom! Maybe I’ll write some; you can pick one or as many as you wish. Tag me if you write/draw/other something, that will make me happy and I can add your take to the prompt. The [+idea] is an option.
1- Symbiote Macabre; Venom Crossover
In 2018, a little bit before he went back to GB, Hob Gadling helped his friend Eddie on a article and got a symbiote of his own: Macabre. [+ Macabre and Hob have a good relationship and they have a dad jokes contest going on. Dreamling or Hobrintheus]
2- The Last Wish; Puss In Boots, The Last Wish Crossover
The Wishing Star is a sentient and old being. Once the last wish done, she leaves and creates a new universe. She was aware of the fights and fighters, took a shine on Puss, Softpaws and Perrito and granted them reincarnation in the New Universe.
Wolf!Death was made aware of it and he was afforded the right to go between the 2 universes because Puss gained his respect (even if his role as Death would be limited since there would be another Death). Once breathing his last breath, Puss got a new life as Robert ‘Hob’ Gadling. Wolf!Death was there in 1389 at the White Horse. He felt Death holding her gift and looking at them, he recognised Softpaws and Perrito.
Fast forward, Wolf!Death felt a tug for a few years now (but work you know) and once he followed it, he found Dream/Softpaws in the fishbowl with Roderick Burgess asking for his son. This is when Fawney Rig heard the whistle for the first time. Wolf!Death had so much fun!
- Dream & Death remember (by me)
3- The Boundless; the other side of the Endless
Robin (1332-1371) and Marian (1330-1371) Gadling are very proud of their children, all 7 of them. When they die in a road accident, it's not Death who whisk them away but a Being way older, the force of Transformation.
They explain that 2 of their creations, Night and Time, had children together but weren't very qualified as parents. Time spending his life alone, scorning his children when they come and ask for help and Night playing favorites, creating rivalry than can torn families apart. As their children are the Endless, concepts given conscience, they need an alternate, who can show them all about being and living outside of their duties.
And they need parents, badly, so that was the deal: Robin & Marian and their children, when they died (or had a traumatic experience who shatter their whole being whatever come first) are going to become the Boundless family. Robin will be Worth and Marian, Love.
Will (or Scarlet for his red hair like Robin's grandpa 1352-1372), the eldest, die at the age of 20, with his love Mary, 19, both murdered by one of Mary's rejected suitor. They are buried together after a postmortem marriage. Will stays Will (Where there is a will, there is a way) and Mary became Guidance.
Alan (or Ellen, when he felt like it, with their faithful lute Lady Christabel 1354-1384) die when he was 30, in the middle of a village dying of an illness, accompagnying them to their last breath with their songs. They will be Birth. The spark needed to create Life.
Robert (or Hob 1356-???), their third boy. Who loved Life more than anything and bragged that he would never die and was granted his wish. Meaning that only a traumatic experience can bring him back to the family. But even when he lost his wife, his baby and Robyn, and all the consequences, his will to live never flickered. He was brought back in the family the 7 June 1889 when he thought he lost the love of his long life. He becomes Hope. Eleanor, baby Marion and Robyn will be part of this 2nd life.
Tucker (or Tuck 1359-1399), who went to became a monk and left, because they didn't like having their authority questioned. He came back to his village, buring family and friends one by one. Marrying lovers in secret. Died at 40. He became Improvement, the act of becoming better.
The twins Richard & John (or little John, for John was Marian's father, 1361-1391). Both died at 30 in an avalanche, Richard trying to capture the beauty of the scenery on paper and John simply happy to be with his brother and enjoying the view. Richard becomes Passion and John, Elation.
Mochán (or Much, the baby of the family 1363-1379) died the youngest too. He was always hiding in the forest or looking for quiet places. Always trying to find inner peace. No one knows if the animals feasting on him was before or after his death. He becomes Serenity.
4- Orpheus Gadling; The Not-So-Quite-a-Reincarnation fic
Hades & Persephone were more than moved when Orpheus came for Eurydice so, when he died, they decided to meddle a little bit. When Orpheus came, Persephone talked with Eurydice and told her that, if Orpheus didn't succeed, she will be reincarnated after 3 millennium in a sort of sleeping death. So, when Orpheus looked back, Eurydice went to "sleep". When Orpheus was killed, Hades grabbed Orpheus' body's parts and, with the help of his wife, made him whole again (it took a lot of time, like a millennium) and put him to rest before sending his body back to the Human World to be with Eurydice again (they're the sappy couple). Except, he was an adult with no memory except his first name - Orpheus - in 2019. Guess who found him? Our very immortal Hob Gadling and he honestly couldn't let this kid alone so, after a check-up by a very discreet doctor, in a very discreet hospital, Orpheus became Orpheus Gadling, son of Robert Gadling. Orpheus loved to have Hob as a father, Hob loved to provide for family again. Win, win. Then (in 2022) Morpheus get out and saved his ex-wife. [+ My idea is that Hob & Dream meet at the New Inn a few times, Dream saves Calliope, Dream talks about it with Hob (sort of), Hob wants to meet the ex-wife. So they have a sort of dates-à-trois. Once it's Dream & Hob, once Hob & Calliope, once the 3 of them... fast forward, it's holidays, Orpheus decides to come home. The 3 gather at the New Inn (Hob talked about his adopted son the last time but didn't gave any name or showed pictures), Orpheus enters, smiles (Morpheus & Calliope are gobsmacked), "Dad!" he says loudly and go right to Hob to hug him. Then he looked at Dream & Calliope and asked if they met because, he seems to know them but can't remember. Dream tried to leave but with Calliope and Hob, he can't so they go to Hob to discuss things. Dreamling or Immortal Throuple]
More to come (but it’s quite late here)

A far more straightforward personal doc, Will & Harper’s title introduces Will Ferrell – the far more famous face in this duo – first but for a compelling reason:
Because Ferrell’s lifelong friend Harper Steele, a former Saturday Night Live head writer, had not yet settled on her name when she first wrote a letter to Ferrell coming out as a trans woman at the age of 61.
(“Name forthcoming,” she signed the letter.)
Make no mistake: Harper is in the driver’s seat, literally and figuratively, as they roadtrip across America, reacquainting themselves.
Will, riding shotgun, plays the part of the Everyman-Ally, sweetly supportive and tentatively asking questions about Harper’s transition.
The camera’s there for a reason, and Will & Harper, by and large, is instructive in the best of ways.
(After a limited theatrical run, the film arrives on Netflix on Sept. 27 – the kind of visibility that has the possibility of making a real impact.)
The documentary (by Josh Greenbaum, director of comedies Strays and Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) is roomy enough to chew on the complications of traveling with one of America’s favorite comedians (the idea of a safe space changes when Ron Burgundy is your wingman), while also accommodat- ing heartfelt conversations and the kind of good-natured goofiness you’d expect from middle-aged comedians. Harper and Will both come off like good eggs, and the tears wept on both sides – about the decades of deep pain Harper felt denying her true identity, and the terrible realization for Will that he was blind to that pain – are liable to goose sincere tears of your own. n
DOCUMENTARY Actor regrets Texas visit
Ferrell, trans friend got hot steak but a cool reception
In the new Netflix documentary Will and Harper , Will Ferrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele travel across the country following Harper’s gender transition to female.
The pair receives warm welcomes along the way during stops at a professional basketball game in Indiana, Steele’s childhood home in Iowa and a small-town bar in Oklahoma where an anti-Biden sign with a choice expletive hangs.
Then they arrive in Texas, where things turn sour at the iconic Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo.
The restaurant is famous for its 72-ounce steak challenge, in which diners who eat the meat and sides in under an hour get it for free.
Wearing a Sherlock Holmes costume from his 2018 film Holmes and Watson , the actor sits across from Steele on a stage.
As they eat, they are surrounded by cellphone cameras and stares.
“I’m eating out of nervousness,” says Steele, the former head writer for Saturday Night Live .
“As much as I’ve been in a fishbowl in various times in my life, this trumps all of it,” Ferrell replies.
“What begins as a comedic stunt soon begins to feel claustrophobic,” Vanity Fair wrote in its take of the meal.
The Houston Chronicle called the encounter “awkward.”
The Big Texan did not respond to a phone call from The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday.
The restaurant did post about Ferrell’s March 2023 visit on social media but did not mention Steele.
Will and Harper does not show Steele’s toast to the crowd, captured on social media videos:
“I’m from Iowa but I will raise a glass to your great state of Texas,” she told the crowd.
“I wish you guys would do more for trans rights in this state. It went dead, completely dead,” Steele said as the crowd goes silent. “That’s not how we would treat you up in Iowa.”
Ferrell then added, “Cheers to Texas and trans rights, right?”
After the pair leaves the restaurant, they receive a flurry of nasty comments on social media, as seen in the film.
One post calls Ferrell a “satanic illuminati pedophile.”
Another warns him not to mess with Texas.
“The room started to feel very wrong to me,” Steele says in the movie.
“I was feeling a little like my transness was on display, I guess, and suddenly that sort of made me feel not great.”
A teary-eyed Ferrell replies, “The saddest part for me is… I just feel… I feel like I let you down in that moment.”
Texas has emerged as a forceful opponent of transgender rights in recent years.
The state has banned gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth and prohibited transgender athletes from competing on college sports teams that do not align with their sex assigned at birth.
Dozens of school districts across the state, including some in North Texas, have designated which bathrooms transgender students could use and allowed teachers to use students’ biological rather than preferred pronouns.
Most recently, the state stopped allowing transgender Texans to change the sex on their birth certificates or driver’s licenses to reflect their gender identity.
Ferrell regrets choice
In an interview with The New York Times , Ferrell said he regrets stopping at the restaurant. “I wished I’d walked in and said: ‘No. This is going to be terrible. Let’s just go,’” he said. “I was feeling that remorse and guilt of even going there.”
“I didn’t really have a grasp on how intense it was going to be and felt responsible for not properly vetting the situation we were putting ourselves in,” Ferrell said.
“That felt like it was going to be this benign place where you eat a big steak in the amount of time, and then you walk in and it’s a thousand people seated in this room and I was like, ‘Oh, why are we here?’”

I'm gonna complain here for a hot minute as a treat because I almost never do. And I'm not putting it under a read more because I think a lot of people need to see this.
I've been seeing the phrase "better sensitive than whatever the hell humanity was on back in the day" slung around as of recent. While I agree that a lot of stuff has change for the better, there's such a thing as overdoing it.
We've so gone far past tiptoeing into the overly sensitive territory and have started dancing around in it with this fucked up idea of a utopia glorified by ipad babies validating the words of delusional 20 year olds who think they're the main character. We're not leaving room for humans to be human anymore.
It's in human nature to make mistakes, or to have personality, or to have opinions. But so help you make one mistake, or have an opinion that's not harming anyone but the vast majority don't agree with. So help you if you have a few personality traits that may be seen as inherently bad, or have a unique way of doing things. How dare you day such heinous things ten years ago that was acceptable then but isn't now and you most likely don't agree with, IF you can even remember saying it. How dare you not be perfect.
I do think that a lot of this idea was popularized by online culture and a younger generation because genuinely, and the lockdown circa 2018-2021 (or somewhere in that range) certainly didnt help. But do you remember how things work outside? You can't just block someone who gives you trouble or makes you uncomfortable. At least not without causing a scene and looking like you belong in a ward. I genuinely think that there are some things about life that we learned is okay online that we need to unlearn because it's creating even more of a divide between humanity. Eventually we're gonna have the chronically online vs the real people bs.
Not just that but it's SO risky to center your job around being online, or to be an artist online, because "sensitive" people will so quickly find negative things to latch onto and swarm it like a pack of starving piranhas. If you do one thing wrong you can have your job IMMEDIATELY taken from you. You make it virtually impossible for a person to live. I'm sorry but that's messed up and goes against what you're trying to preach. That's not a better tomorrow, that's a fishbowl that people with the same ideals are crowding into and booting anyone who steps out of line.
All this to say while think it's good we learned from the past don't fucking shunt people who have differing opinions or also made mistakes that are arguably more tame. It's not your job to police other people. Quit being a creep and playing social justice warrior. Genuinely one of the best things to do is be the bigger person and walk away. Really weigh the problem at hand because chances are you're blowing it out of proportion.
Go outside and talk to someone, but if they mention how much they like pranking (and I mean the actual good kind not the "going around and antagonizing people with a mic" brand) for the love of God don't say "but that's mean and you should feel bad" SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!!! SHUT UP OR I WILL PRANK YOU WITH MALICIOUS INTENT YOU UPTIGHT TWAT! Learn to be FUN!
Don't ruin things for others because your perception of X thing is that X thing is hurtful or bad when it's really not, and you're just too sensitive. If you don't like it that's fine don't be a Debby downer. Don't put them on blast and ruin their lives because of it either.
And if this post makes you mad and you feel the need to say something about it? This post was brought to you by viewers like you. Thank you.
#ruckis borks#ruckis rants#discourse#too sensitive#pls go listen to zombified by falling in reverse thank you

also how do i explain the history of slime types. i was here PRE cloud slimes, PRE daiso-based butter slimes. the first slime types were the white-glue based (although the differences of glue all and school glue were discovered later on), clear glue, floam/crunchy, and butter slime before it was made via clay. and i emphasize that bc butter slime used to be made with heavy corn starch or crayola model magic BEFORE that one slimer whose name i forgot said she used daiso clay and then the daiso trend BEGAN, with tons of daiso clay mixing videos.
around the same time i think cloud, cloud cream, icee, and jelly slimes were made? and if you don't know the difference lemme break it down. cloud is instant snow (with water) mixed w slime. cloud cream is cloud slime mixed with butter slime (with clay). icee is slime w instant snow (w water) and clear glue, to create a sizzly, slushie-like texture (which is. not a slushie slime but i'll explain later). and last is jelly which is clear glue mixed with unwatered instant snow, and the slime basically looks like a gummy.
then crunchy slimes have its variety too. older slimes used to just use floam, with colored floams often made into "birthday cake" slimes. then microfloams were also added (the ones you'd find in pillows), then lollipop floams??? i think that's what they're called???? where it's just a BIG floam, and slimes with those on top are usually called cake pops. then we were introduced to diff kinds of beads for slimes, like slushie beads. slimes w the opaque white ones were called slushie slimes while the clear slushie bead slimes were called sugar slimes. these were usually mixed in w clear slime so u could see all the beads. then the last of this bead collection (at least, for this era) were fishbowl beads, which are. the ones you find in fishbowls. colored fishbowl beads are more of a recent thing, but in the classic times it was just clear.
then around 2018-2019, i think, is when white-based crunchy slimes were made??? obv ppl made these before but slushie slimes really TRENDED for the first time (WHICH IM SO HAPPY ABT I WAS SUCH A DIEHARD FAN OF SLUSHIE SLIMES). BUT ALSO ppl started putting them in butter slimes and yeah that was a big time for slushie beads. and around the same time bingsu beads (holographic ones with big holes in the middle, like cut up straws) got popular bc of this other account i forget.
then we got the diy clay slime trend which is where you get slime with a clay sculpture you're supposed to mix into the slime. i'll be honest half of these were just repetitive shit but slime accounts like momoslimes and rodemslimes were REALLY good at this and got popular bc of it!!
and i could go on more and more bc there are slimers who get popular for ONE kind of slime. and there are niche stuff too like slime pet peeves and slime scents and korean slime shops and clay popping and. yeah okay i have been criminally into the slime community. and what
thinking abt slime sometimes
