Luis Serra and his use of false bravado

I'm writing a fic right now that requires a pretty in-depth character analysis of Luis, and I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things about him, which is his use of false bravado to get out of sticky situations, and the expressiveness he displays in the moments in between.

We talk a lot about Leon's micro-expressions when he's trying to hide his feelings, which don't get me wrong, I LOVE to analyze, but Luis has such telling expressions as well, and we should talk about it! (I also saw some gifs of Luis's expressions being modded onto Leon and THAT got attention but... neither here nor there).

To me, it always looks like he's using an almost silly amount of swagger when he interacts with others to portray his confidence, and he barely ever lets that wall down. Unlike Leon and Ada, he's a civilian, but he jokes around and flirts every time he's in front of them, despite being in situations where he really should be behaving more like Ashley, like when he narrowly avoided being tortured to death and he's just like "nice, cigs"

We as the audience are only privy to his mask slips in 3 different types of situations, as far as I can tell:

When he feels like his luck is about to run out: he goes from acting confident to suddenly displaying a lot of fear on his face, while he wildly casts around for something to say to help him out. In both of these instances, he completely regains his bravado once he thinks he's safe again, i.e. when Ada saves him from the torturers, or when he realizes Ada knows who Leon is. This is also just kind of adorable. Watch the way his face falls when he realizes Ada is mad, and then the way he flounders when she points her gun at him.

2. When no one else is looking: This one stood out to me from the very beginning because he's actually still speaking with confidence as he explains that the plaga can be removed, but Leon and Ashley can't see his face, where he's clearly showing his trepidation, his guilt about them being infected, etc. and then notice how he goes right back to smiling and confident when he turns around to face them again.

3. When he feels concern for others: Luis is an extremely caring person, and one of the most common moments where he lets his mask slip is when someone else is in danger. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is his reaction to the medicine being destroyed, but I also want to draw attention to the look on his face when Ada is in danger and she tells him to leave her. And I know I included him looking away from Leon and Mendez in a previous post but here's a higher quality gif so you can really get your heart broken by how scared he looks:

Anyways, I just love the little things that make up characters in this game. I also have analyses about Ada and Ashley that you'll probably get whether you want it or not because I love them, and their characterizations are so interesting.

hi guys! here is my little version of jeff the killer! this version is based on how i cosplay him. i know he is quite popular; him and slenderman are the sort of faces of creepypasta so I hope this plus some of my other doodles are a good sort of welcome/ entry into the creepypasta fandom ^w^.

This was a quick doodle hence the messy shading and sketch. i will still attempt to fix up my page and stuff. I like that theres no word limit and i get to yap. Here is my entry of my day along with this doodle. i was listening to billies new album to this and a few of those 2017 edit audio songs. it was quite the throwback. i cosplay jeff sometimes and i always giggle at myself because i am too short even for my own jeff headcannons haha. i think i will start using tumblr as a weird journal whenever i post artwork. my drawings mean alot to me and they really do reflect my mental status so having some sort of checkpoint of thoughts is cool.

as some of you may know, i am severely mentally disordered. i am stuck in my room and when im not, im a day patient at the psyche ward. at first the obsession was with leon kennedy and zack fair from their respective games. i dont really know how my mind teleported back to the creepypasta fandom. when i was a kid i would run away from the hospital anf run to the forest alot. i was always caught and my stay was extended. i would be wearing almost nothing but basically a pregiven set. haha. i used to favour slenderman and eyeless jack alot but over time when i finally got home i would read fanfiction of the other popular ones like ben drowned or jeff or ticci toby. i am back at the mental ward because of an incident in january and how it affected my psyche. pooper! oh well, sometimes people are nice to me but when im not doodling (i am not allowed to listen to music), i blank and forget my day. my parents are super nice to me though so i hang out with them or grill. I grilled chicken yesterday and marinaded it qith my brother wahahah. ok thats enough bai. yay.

Soo, this week's has been pretty busy since i did some trips around and also it passed really really fast for me?? So i completely forgot it has been like a week since my last post or something c':

But anyway, one thing about me is that i really like 'The Mandela Catalogue' and i thought it could have been fun to mix that and Resident Evil together. I also have some old drawings of some characters from TMC and i was planning to post them but then i forgot as usual </3

So yea, i personally don't think Resident evil fans really know much about Tmc, because they are practically completely different types of content but i still found it fun hihi

Maybe i should write some general explanation, but basically,

The Mandela Catalogue is a series on YouTube with currently 5 volumes and some other small videos, and it's a universe where there are these 'alternates' who are paranormal entities whose job is to bring to suicide their victims. The first ever alternate in history is The Archangel Gabriel (I've decided to put that as Albert Wesker since they are both the main antagonists). [And he also is the creator of the alternates]

Alternates can even be animals (as seen in vol.2 there's a cat alternate) and can copy the appearance of the victim or a friend or really anyone.

There are 4 main protagonists, and this time i only did the second 2, Adam and Jonah, who i interpreted as Leon and Luis.

These two protagonists are part of a paranormal society, for Adam and Jonah, 'BPS'. For Leon and Luis I'm thinking to do 'RPS' Racoon paranormal society, and the slogan to be 'you see, we act.' even tho i don't remember if Adam and Jonah had a slogan...

Either way, in the story, Adam and Jonah act in secret since it's illegal to deal or take care of alternates, because they are pretty much unstoppable, and even seeing one could cause it to just start haunting you.

(the last thing i want to say, the small thought of leon in the last drawing is correlated to what happens in the OG story, I'll maybe explain it in the future if i make more drawings but if anyone has some question I'm free to answer :> )

Happy Trans Day of Visibility, everyone! From Hikaru and I to you!!

As I was drawing this, I kept trying to think of a good caption to post it with. I’ve always been known for my words, after all. But for once, I’m at a bit of a loss. It’s a big day for me, but it also just feels like an average Sunday.

I sketched and re-sketched this over and over again, trying to get everything exactly right. It didn’t turn out perfect, but honestly, I like it better that way. Hikaru isn’t exactly the same as me, but a LOT of him is drawn from reflections of me- his experiences with masculinity and transness are a prime example.

This is my first TDOV being fully out, and openly, publicly transitioning. It’s been a difficult year. I’ve faced unimaginable feelings of loneliness and isolation, and kinds of hardships I had never even imagined. Being someone who doesn’t Fit in a small area like mine has left me with a new appreciation for the ability to pass, or my lack thereof. I’ve felt kinds of loneliness and rejection that I had never even fathomed possible before I came out.

But more importantly, I am more in touch with myself than I ever have been before. Knowing myself, knowing Leon, getting to be Leon, is an unimaginable experience. I feel like me for the first time. It took me eighteen years to discover myself, and another two to be confident enough to live it. I still have a long way to go. But I’ve made so many connections, so many friends. I love myself, thoroughly and wholly, for the first time. I’m proud of who I am, and I’m proud of who I’m going to be. It is such a privilege to wake up every day, and know that I’m Leon. I am a self-made man, and I am so proud to be trans. I am proud to be visible. I am proud of who I am, for the first time. It’s scary, and it’s new, and it isn’t easy. But I love being Leon, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m so grateful for this space, for this little corner of demon slayer tumblr I’ve found myself on. I am so unimaginably grateful that I’ve managed to make so many amazing connections in the short time since I made risingscorchingsuns, and nothing makes me happier than having a safe place to be me, and to share the things I love. I love Hikaru, and I love Demon Slayer, and I love all of you guys. Thank you for being here, for reading my silly rambles, for making me feel like I can make something worthwhile. (Seriously, nothing makes my day more than being known as “the Rengoku Mutual”. It makes me happy stim every time I think about it. That fucking rules.)

Anyway, this is getting away from me a bit. Apologies, this post is a bit more emotional than my usual long analysis posts. It’s a big day for me, and I feel really lucky to be able to share it with you guys.

Hey just letting anyone whose interested know: I have a side blog for short original stories. This blog is for original stories but its more about my books I want to write or are currently writing like Alma's Grave. (By the way if you want to hear more about that or want updates just send me an ask)

My side blog is @here-have-some-stories. I have about three stories on there, two of them complete and one of them still in progress, but chapters come out like chapters on A03.

The first one is Silent Laughter. Silent Laughter is a short horror about a sleep paralysis demon and a boy named Jimmy I think. I forgot my own characters name. He's pretty much alone in the town and is slowly being hunted and tormented by the demon. A lot of it is cliches but I'm actually kind of proud on how it turned out. That one is complete so if it sounds interesting and you wanna go check it out, you can read the full thing right now.

The next one is Massacre Masquerade. This ones my favourite. I actually care about the story and I love the characters. This one is about a kind of alternate universe where there are modern day knights. The new knights who are just about to start their jobs are having a masked ball as a celebration. The disasters that are not accidents start to happen and people get murdered. The building gets put on lockdown and no one can leave until they find a clue of who did it. The murderer planned multiple "accidents" though, and while everyone is locked inside, more murders occur. The main characters are Deacon, Leon and Bailey. The entire thing is a murder mystery, and I'm proud of this one as well, even though this is the other one that isn't complete. I've already planned everything about this story and I'm excited for when I get it finished. Also it is a gay romance as well, but that's not the main point its just a bit on the side which is how I like my romance

My other story is a two parter called Paper Love. Paper Love is heavily inspired by that one queer animation about those drawings who are in love and try to be together, I can't remember what it's called. Paper Love is about two drawings, one a fairy and the other a steampunk elf and they could see each other from across the room since they are hung up on different walls, and even though they don't know each other, they're pretty much already in love. And yes, this is also queers. They're my pretty little lesbians. Go read it if you want.

When we were 18, I kissed Violetta without her consent in front of a livestream. It was wrong of me. I can only give the excuse that I was young and dumb. Yeah, believe women. Like when I watched a roller skate performance with Matteo Balsano and Luna Valente. It ended with Matteo kissing Luna. Very unprofessional, that’s not something you do in skating performances, but it was romantic and even though Luna seemed shocked when it happened and never spoke about it again, I know she did like it.

Zero's medal, New Mecca's origins, and near-fatal head trauma

Spoilers for all of Katana ZERO ahead. if you haven't played it already, do that now, I'm dead serious when I say it's one of the greatest games of all time.

When I first decided I'd post meta about this game, honestly, this isn't the one I expected to start with. Hey, sometimes inspiration hits, and...

I'm joking. That's a different rant entirely. (yoshiP voice) please look forward to it. I think the best place to start with this one is New Mecca itself, and what that name entails. It's no secret that KZ takes large inspiration from both Judaism and Islam, the latter of which is more relevant today.

The implications of a literal new Mecca are both fascinating and out of my wheelhouse. I encourage any Muslims, who certainly know more about it than me, to elaborate. As it stands, I'm going to leave it at these few screenshots.

This really isn't the main point of this rant, but it's related enough that I feel justified in mentioning it. Now, let's see Zero's service medal.

Thanks to the nature of KZ as a pixel-art game, we don't have much to work with here. It's gold with a purple ribbon, that's the most we're gonna get.

During the scene at the bar, we have an NPC put a name to it, and this name is what kickstarted the entire post.

A Distinguished Service Crescent. This, to my knowledge, is not a real medal in any country. That makes sense, considering, to my knowledge... New Mecca isn't real. (If it was, we'd have bigger problems on our hands.) This name did remind me of the real-life medal known as the Distinguished Service Cross, which has three meanings and appearances between countries.

To the left, the USA's medal, which is the second highest military decoration just behind their Medal of Honor. The center, Australia's medal, the highest of their Distinguished Service awards. The right, the United Kingdom's medal, which is only awarded for service at sea.

But none of these look like Zero's medal, do they? Let's take a look at Distinguished Service Medals instead, same order as above.

No dice. At this point what I'm about to say is going to surprise absolutely nobody, but the only real-life lookalike I can think of is the USA's Purple Heart.

Now, this sounds absolutely nothing like the Distinguished Service Crescent the NPC mentions, but let's account for 1. artistic liberty, 2. multiple inspirations, and 3. the fact that he might've been wrong. (It's not as if KZ has the most reliable narrators in the first place.)

Part of the reason it might be named as such in game is to draw the direct comparison to our real world medals, named after the cross. Why has it been replaced with a crescent, though? Recall the name of New Mecca, and how the crescent has long been a symbol of of Islam.

Most Americans know what a Purple Heart is given for: being wounded or killed by an enemy combatant in the line of duty. Given that Zero is still alive to receive it, only the former is important. Things are starting to come together.

During the final scene with the Psychiatrist, he entirely ignores you if you ask if the medal is real. At first, I assumed this could be Zero coming to doubt everything he's been told, which is reasonable. Then, once I realized the medal is based off of a Purple Heart, I thought it was real after all.

Finally, I realized just how much the Psychiatrist had Zero's life under control. Zero knows what this medal means, what it implies, and the whole course of the game is discovering how much of what he believed to be innate is caused by his medicine.

Chronos, the drug that he's been forbidden from learning about at every turn, that he's been given non-answers about this whole time, that gives him the power of a god. It's not so unreasonable to assume the medal was used to attribute Zero's memory loss to a head injury, as opposed to the truth of it being yet another side effect.

It's worth noting which parts of the screenshots provided are rendered in purple, and the fact that NULL itself is written in the same color. More on the color usage of KZ later.

Hi hello i’ve been waitin for this ask forever. ALSO I WANNA SAY THANK YOU!1 i love getting asks like this (two ship charts under cut n explanation if you're interested)

The non-detailed way I see their dynamic is basically just that, grumpy x sunshine. Whenever I think about em I just think about that post that reads ‘’Hop and his boyfriend whom he needs to fight with constantly’’

But I do have some more in-depth thoughts/headcanons on their relationship, I have been hyperfixatin hard on em for the past 9 months;

To me, Bede’s the more physically affectionate, or clingy to be more accurate. He keeps affection in public at a minimum cause well, you know gossip travels fast. But in private? He’s constantly seeking out Hop’s attention. At first he was awkward about hugging n stuff, getting overwhelmed easily, which is why Hop waited for him to seek it out but he eventually got more comfortable and now Hop can’t sit down without him laying down on him.

Out of the two of them, I think that (surprisingly) Hop is the most touch starved, he always gives affection without receiving much himself. I think that at some point, Bede realized this and it’s half the reason for why he’s so clingy.

They bicker a lot, at some point it just becomes a love language. Bede’s still a little bit of a jerk and Hop has to keep him in check. I like to imagine Bede is flustered easily n Hop loves to take advantage of that.

I think that Hop is usually the one planning dates and hangouts, it’s either that or he shows up at Bede’s door at 11 pm with roses out of nowhere. He also almost always insists on paying. In turn, Bede randomly sends him gifts. I definitely think Bede spoils Hop

Even though Bede’s taller, and Hop’s shirts are too wide and short for her, he steals Hop’s clothes all the time. Hop keeps losing shirts. If you see him without his jacket means that Bede probably has it.

Hop fidgets with Bede’s hair methinks, he likes to run his hands through it and occasionally braid it. Reminds him of a wooloo lol.

I also think Bede is very easily jealous, not to a possessive extent but it is very clear when she’s jealous. She’ll glare daggers to anyone who’s a little too close to Hop and will act very affectionate towards him in front of said person

Also I just think Bede’s smitten with Hop to the degree it becomes everyone’s problem. Hop might have fallen first but Bede fell harder. Like. Idk I just think that Bede gets attached to people way too easily but acts like he doesn’t while Hop is the opposite way

Also I’d be very funny is Hop’s dubwool was borderline homophobic towards Bede (I have a hc that dubwool is very overprotective of Hop lol, he does not let anyone near him). Bede reaches to grab Hop’s hand and is instantly tackled by dubwool. I have this scene in my mind where they’re both up in a tree and when they’re about to kiss, Hop’s dubwool just begins to tackle said tree non-stop.

(Applying my gender hcs woo). Even though Hop’s not really a guy, Bede still refers to him as his boyfriend. Hop also refers to Bede as his girlfriend as much as he can to fluster her or try to cheer her up.

I find it funny to imagine Bede being horrified upon figuring out he has a crush on Hop. Also also Bede cooks for him a lot. Usually just sweets or baked goods since that's what he knows what to do best.

I think that the confession was a disaster. Like they were probably hanging out, Bede’s just starin at Hop not payin attention at all and without thinkin blurts out a ‘you’re pretty’ or something like that. Cue panic and Hop tryin to get a direct answer and Bede just denying everything. It works out somehow

I think Hop’s mum would like Bede, Leon would not lol. Opal is supportive not only cause Hop is a good match for him but also because Bede can’t stay at the gym all the time, Opal has to kick him out sometimes.

Movin onto the angst stuff:

I think that Hop would struggle with saying ‘I love you’ while Bede would say it too easily.

Hop is very observant, he notices when there’s a slight change in Bede’s behavior and when she’s nervous. Bede isn’t as observant and is usually a little awkward when it comes to comfortin Hop

I think both Hop n bede have scars. Bede has scars on his hands from the gym challenge and digging through caves to get wishin stars. He also has a light yet constant tremble to his hands, aka his hands are always trembling, can’t control it (I also have this and I get to choose which character to give it to). While Hop generally has scars from wounds he’s picked at, he has them primarily in his arms but some in his legs too. He also has a burn scar from eternatus.

I think Hop has low self-esteem and doesn’t think he’s a good person. I definitely imagine there’s times were he feels like he isn’t worthy or deserving of the affection Bede gives him. I also think his intrusive thoughts (I hc him as having intrusive thoughts cause I do lol) don’t help. Bede does his best to try to distract him from it

Hey! I haven’t been on tumblr for probably over a decade at this point, so this is my first post introducing myself to get back into it!

My name is Bea! I’m Canadian, 25f, Pagan, bi and used to be a full time artist (polymer clay, jewelry, painting, drawing, etc). I’ve always liked writing self insert fanfics for my own enjoyment when I can’t find a fic to scratch a particular itch, and always thought it would be fun to run an ask blog where I can take requests or post my own hcs, drabbles/oneshots, and even some art for my favourite characters!

My current 24/7 obsession is JJBA, especially Golden Wind, and specifically, Leone Abbacchio. My favourite parts are 3 and 5 and I’m currently on part 6 of the anime! Other anime’s I love are Fruits Basket, Dragon Ball, Darker than Black, Inuyasha and much more that I cannot think of atm.

I also love Buffy, The Boys, and have been enjoying Invincible and most recently The Bear! I love video games and I’m a huge Nintendo nerd - Twilight Princess is my favourite game of all time and I love LoZ and animal crossing! Also love stuff like Stardew Valley and casual horror games. Baldurs Gate 3 and DND stuff are super awesome too. As far as music goes, I’d say I’m an alt/punk rock gal but here are my favourite bands: MCR, Nirvana, Sublime, Gorillaz, One-Eyed Doll, Evanescence. I do also indulge in late 90’s/2000’s pop!

Two words. No filter. Oh, you thought his puns are bad? Try hearing the very adult jokes he said before meeting you. So, he really had to filter what he joked about, especially if he cursed since you would gasp out in horror (think of Groot in the first movie gasping) and cover his mouth.

He loved your baking though; you baked food that melted in his mouth, especially your chocolate chip cookies. Fortunately, his brothers had nothing to fear when you were in the kitchen.

He also learned that you were a blushing mess during kissing scenes in animated kids' movies, and would bawl like a baby, he had to force himself to forget Land Before Time since you would be a crying mess. Also, forget about horror movies, your innocence needed to be protected. He learned that through the 2017 Halloween incident with IT, you couldn't sleep a wink for a week straight.

The dance parties are amazing though, though both you and him are so awful at dancing, it was the only way to celebrate the little victories (along with cupcakes) in life, especially with each test you took in high school.

DONATELLO

The problem was, the same with Leon, he absolutely had no filter. So, he really had to control what dirty jokes he would make whenever you were in the room. And he couldn't curse anymore unless he wanted to see you cover his mouth because apparently, he said a "no no word."

You were also, much to Leon's and Raph's charigin, allowed in the lab because of A. You didn't act like a "dum dum" and B? You asked so many questions that allowed him to infodump about what shows he watched or what he was inventing.

However, the downside to being allowed in the lab, made it so impossible for it to be quiet that Leon would play "Careless Whisper" that romantic song typically played during intimate times for "grownup people" which would make both you and him so flustered.

Fortunately, with you, you absolutely understood his dislike to being touched sometimes with his sensory issues. But when he was absolutely exhausted and needed some cuddle time, you were the person to go to since you wore the softest pajamas known to man, and you were such a heavy sleeper. Though he had to get used to you looking like a dead person since you slept with your eyes half open.

MICHELANGELO

Both of you are just so innocent that he really didn't need to filter what he said both joke wise, and curse wise, because he never cursed, though he did somewhat understand the dirty jokes Leo and Donnie would make sometimes, leading him to turn into "Dr. Delicate Touch"

The two of you worked in the kitchen like a well-oiled machine, because he cooked, and you baked, so he ate what you baked, and you ate what he made. Which was a natural occurrence every single day.

He loved watching the Disney movies with you but knew you hated horror films, he learned that when you and he watched The Shining, you had to sleep next to him for four days straight afterward, though your screaming during each scene was hilarious.

Also new drawing buddy! You and him would sit for hours each day just sketching, drawing, and painting, so that was prime time for snuggle time!

RAPHAEL

Leon knew if he made a dirty joke, he was a dead turtle, you were just too innocent to understand dirty jokes like that. So, Leon really had to limit what jokes he said.

So whenever when you were in trouble, a new form of senses formed, "Boyfriend Senses" would tingle, you and Donnie teasingly called it his "Raphie tingle" which he absolutely hated but he couldn't say to you out loud!

He would laugh as he saw you become a flustered mess when kissing scenes were shown on tv, heck you even cried in Bambi when his mother died. Yeah, movies with death scenes were banned in the lair whenever you visited.

And because of how much he ate, gave you an excuse to bake to your heart's content! Because you loved to bake, and Raph loved to eat, two birds with one stone, since he ate like nothing ever seen before, and whenever you baked, there were dance parties involved.

And I may have? Idk to be honest 🤣 I’ve answered a decent amount of asks and then went through and cleaned out my blog earlier this year so 🤷‍♀️

And to be honest, I’ve been writing since I was a kid. I had a lot of original stories and poetry. But I didn’t really post anything fanfic wise until I was like 13-14 over on ffnet (ahhh yugioh, my first fandom 😌). But to answer, idk I’ve just always like writing. It’s a creative outlet that came a lot easier than something like drawing.

Aww thank you!!! 😭 I read a lot (not as much as I used to 😢 but that’s on me and not managing my time lmao) so that has helped a lot with writing. But I just write how I daydream so I’m glad it comes across so well 😭 🫶 I sometimes wish I could be more lyrical and in depth with my writing but that’s not how I’m hardwired lmao

But yeah, I just wrote a lot growing up, just silly stories or ghost stories to scare my friends. Then that shifted into poetry and then eventually i discovered fanfic and tried my hand at that lol.

As for writing here on tumblr you can thank stranger things and the Steve x reader tag 🤣 that opened my eyes to reader insert fics. I always thought ‘character x reader’ was a Mary sue of some kind but I also never looked into it either lol. So after that I browsed the Leon x reader tag when re4make was getting hype. Then I wrote corrupt cop Leon and here we are 🤣

I will say I never expected to get as much interest as I have; it’s still really hard to believe. 🫣 And I kinda hate that some of my stuff got popular cause then I got a lot of hate from people I didn’t even know and that whole backlash thing last year just soured me against tumblr’s cliquey fandom spaces even more. But hey once bitten twice shy 👌 lol.
