Just remembered all the money The Duffers threw away for 5 years on marketing Byler knowing damn well hardly anybody cared and not paying a cent for Milkvan content, merch, photoshoots, anything.

How could it be queerbaiting? They didn't even have to advertise them pre-season 4 but they said "no, we're gonna move money from our budget towards a 2017 photoshoot and AWAY from other important things on our budgeting list. Noah, tweet that they definitely aren't gay."

Like really just maximized story telling. We don't want you to know until we want you know but we're gonna subliminally open your mind to it. And somebody saw "they def aren't gay" and went "hm I'd never thought of them as gay before...honestly kinda good idea ngl".

For the Duffers to not make Byler happen would be inherently and exclusively malicious, a malice intended from the beginning. There weren't even enough people in 2017 to actually queerbait. Because there weren't enough to make money off of. The marketing tells us it was planned from long before people were on board. So either they planned to tell Mike and Will's love story or they planned to snub queer viewers for the sake of it, willing to make financial sacrifice to do so, both by investing in something people weren't buying and NOT INVESTING in something people WANTED TO BUY (milkvan content and merch) in order to convert people away from Milkvan and to Byler to also maximize the damage they were spending their money to create.

Lord have mercy if it's the second one because Jesus Fucking Christ usually showrunners hurt gay people to gain money, they don't usually PAY to hurt gay people because they just wanted to that bad.

Anyway, I'll say this on main, with the abduction as abuse and consent violations metaphor that threads through the entire X-Files plot, and I feel like we could do more to occasionally acknowledge the fact that Cancerman can very easily be seen as a subtextual groomer figure in Mulder's life. In both senses of the word. Who has been in the perifery of his life since his childhood or adolescence.

Maybe he was a twisted paternal voyeur who always watched from a distance. Maybe the implied tests and memory suppression continued the metaphor commensurate with the female victims in the show. As it did with Mulder's adult abductions.

I'm in no way denying the medical rape subtext or plot around Scully, and obviously her story is much more explicit. I just find it interesting that the consent violations Mulder goes through, and the long term directly predatory presence of Cancerman hovering over him tends to get a different, less confronting framing in the show and in fic and analysis.

I put some of this subtext into a thing I was writing, and then I took it out because I was worried it would be too dark and off-putting, and then I stopped working on the fic altogether. But whether or not I go back to it eventually, I feel like I want to do more and see more about how mulder is a survivor of having his consent and free will regularly violated, long term in whatever literal or metaphorical ways, and how it contributes to his sense of powerlessness and also his belief that everything wrong is all his fault somehow because he hasn't figured out how to stop it, and also his totally unbalanced scale of risk versus reward.

So I started The Legend of Heroes and I'm a little lost. I don't really get how small gio jing killed meng ziyi's evil husband. Should I go watch a different version(2017?) or will all be explained in this one?

So originally, this show was supposed to air in this configuration and order:

Part 1: Eastern Heretic & Western Venom (Ashes of Time): 8 episodes

Part 2: Northern Beggar & Southern Emperor: 8 episodes

Part 3: Sword Meet at Mount Hua: 6 episodes

Part 4: The 9 Yin Manual: 8 episodes <- where the backstory of how small Guo Jing killed Evil Meng Ziyi's Evil Husband happens for realsies instead of a brief flashback

Part 5: Iron Hearted Loyalists (Hot Blooded) <- where we are at the start of what we have currently been watching

They changed the order of airing from it's original configuration to I think Part 5 -> Part 1-4, so that's why some of the editing choices here don't quite make a ton of sense based on seeing only Part 5. I do think it helps a ton to have seen a version of LOCH prior to this due to the way that it's airing, but after all the parts have aired, watching it in the originally intended order will likely clear up a whole ton.

The reason there are five parts instead of just one 60 episode part is bc they're trying to explain to the censors that no really, this is five different dramas! not one drama wearing five trench coats trying to sneak past the censors! really! they've even got different directors and everything! ignore how uhhh all the same actors and yeah yeah.

I think because this is such a popular story in China, they figured it'd be totally okay for us to just see part 5 first without the other parts because part 5 had the most hype/excitement and is where the bulk of the novel is and that no one would be confused, but for people who have never experienced a LOCH before, they are, understandably, extremely confused!

The tldr of why small Guo Jing killed Meng Ziyi's evil husband though is that he tripped over small Guo Jing during a life and death fight with the 7 shifus, picked up small Guo Jing and went "what the fuck" and small Guo Jing stabbed him by accident in the one place he could actually be stabbed to death with a very sharp dagger. It was all kind of a dreadful mistake. And terribly embarrassing for Chen Xuanfeng honestly.

Defender of the World, Captaine de la Monta Garde Royale, Lady Pauline Cadeaux

i tend to draw her in severe mental and physical anguish. but she is doomed to suffer.

very brief backstory for those who care... she was part of the Monta Garde Royale, tasked with guarding the Queen of Monta and her family from any kind of threat.

while Pauline was on vacation, the Queen mysteriously went missing and shortly after, her best friend, Hector Laflamme did a coup. So she goes and stops that, then like, at some point she finds out Cosmis (evil god) is the root of all the things that suck for her right now, so she, with the help of Celestia (good god), defeat Cosmis.

5 years later, she has been promoted to Captain, she's world famous, she's cursed with ridiculous standards for herself, deteriorating health, stressed to death, and a longtime rival of hers has recently escaped prison and is trying to become a god. So she has to deal with that too.
