Sailor Moon Museum Part 9
The start of the Sera Myu Room!!
Newer versions of the fuku.
Tuxedo Kamen at the end. I realized later that is one pic I have of the outfit. Rats. I could not get over how tiny the waist lines are on these dresses.
The classic ones I grew up on.
Took a picture in front of Sailor Mars for a friend.
Eternal Sailor Moon. I thought the wings were larger. But then again.... the woman that wore these outfits were are a lot shorter than I am so it probably fit them for the portions.
My favorite Inner Senshi
My second favorite Inner Senshi. Atlas no Outer Senshi. >.<
Nogizaka46 Version Musical 2019 on the left.
Kaguya-hime no Koibito on the right from 2021.
Le Mouvement Final on the left from 2017.
Super Live from 2018 and 2019. I need to take pictures of the poster released in the US... and a post for this musical. It was amazing.
La Reconquista from 2013.
Fumina Hara, the second actress to play Usagi in the musicals.
Ohyama Anya, the first actress to play Usagi and will always be my favorite.
Close up of Jupiter and Mercury.
Just realized this my only Chibi Moon one.
Shin / Henshin - Super Senshi e no Michi - Last Dracul Jokyoku. Also commerates the 500th musical for Sailor Moon. I was able to purchase a coin for this that was in a previous post.
Starlights - Ryuusei Densetsu 2003.
Now entering the Nakayoshi room! Lots and lots of little giveaways as the series are original being published in the 90s. Most of these I never seen before.
Notebook, playing cards, and Sailor Moon mask.
Usagi and Tuxedo Kamen bag, poster with the Inners.
Better view of the mini poster.
Stickers, postcards and various inserts.
Bags, inserts, sticks, trading cards
Mini poster is some kind of Santa Claus game. Bag and cute little cardboard box.
Senshi cards are listed as "Super Premium" cards.
Calendar and bag.
Chibi Moon bag, fan books and a card game in the upper corner.
Sailor Moon was constantly featured on the cover of Nakayoshi
More covers.
So many covers.....
I believe all art was published in the five artbooks from the 1990s.

A Must-Watch List of Episodes from the 90s Sailor Moon anime
I know a lot of Moonies make episode guides like this all the time to get people interested in the 90s anime, but I want to share my personal take on which episodes you should watch or skip, because I feel certain episodes get overlooked by the fandom.
Now, for Sailor Moon Classic (Season 1), you absolutely need to watch episodes: 1, 3, 5, 8-11**, 13-15, 19, 22-31, 33-35, 40-43**, and 44-46.
** Episode 11 does have a fillerish plot, but I do think it’s a little important, because it firmly establishes the great frenemy dynamic between Usagi and Rei for the rest of the series.
** Lots of fans say that episodes 40-43 aren’t that important, but I personally disagree. 40 has a very good plot about Usagi and her family, 41 and 42 have a lot of great character development for Ami and Minako, and 43 is the episode where Usagi starts to grow into the leader role.
For Sailor Moon R (Season 2), you’ve gotta watch episodes: 47-66**, 68, 70-75, 77, and 81-88.
** Episode 62 might seem like a basic filler at first glance, but much like Episode 41, it’s got great Ami development. Plus, it’s the episode that introduces the wrist communicators, and the new transformation pens of the season. 63 is also a good Rei episode, and 64 is a great Chibiusa episode. As for episodes 47-59, well, I think this post sums it up best.
** Episode 66 is…mostly filler, but it’s got a lot of cute UsaMamo moments, and some good Chibiusa development.
For Sailor Moon S (Season 3), you’ve gotta watch episodes: 90-93, 96-98, 100-103, 105**, 106, 108**, 109-116, 118**, and 119-126.
** 105 is mostly filler, but has great Mako development.
** 108 is also filler, but it’s really funny and I love it.
** 118, while filler, does have some good Hotaru development, and it’s one of Chibiusa’s best episodes.
For Sailor Moon SuperS (Season 4), you’ll need to watch episodes: 128-130, 133-135**, 140-141**, 143-144, 147**, 148-152, 154**, and 158-166.
** 133 isn’t a particularly “good” episode, but it is kind of important if you want to see how Diana’s introduced in the 90s anime. 134 is basically a standard filler, but a great Mako episode.
** 140 is filler, but a very cute episode. 141 is also filler, but a very fun Minako episode.
** 147 is…filler, but a really good Mako episode.
** 154 is…pretty terrible, but it is the one where Mako and Minako get their new “super/crystal” powers.
Finally, we have Sailor Moon: Sailor Stars (Season 5), and with that, you’ll need to watch episodes: 167-174, 177**, 180-182, 183**, 187-192**, and 193-200.
** 177 is a filler, but a pretty good Ami and Taiki episode.
** 183 is filler as well, but it’s a decent Rei episode.
** 187 and 188 are…pretty bad in my opinion, but they’re kind of important for you to understand what’s going on in the following episodes. 191 is really good though, because it’s one of those episodes that show how much the Inner Senshi care about Usagi, and 192 is an amazing Minako episode.

I like obscure Legacy Characters
Kopa
Nalas and Simbas son
The lion cub at the end of the first part was named Fluffy by the Production Team - in the Six new adventures book series as well as couple of audiobooks their sons name is Kopa. The production team of the second part was not aware of him.
I always wondered what would happen if Disney decided to bring him into the main continuity. And now with Mufasa live action movie on the way I wonder if the Lion Cub could be him.
IDK why but finding out about him in my childhood and even starting to have interest in listening to audiobooks is special to me.
Nemo
Nadias and Jeans unnamed son from Fushigi no Umi no Nadia or the Secret of Blue Water.
He only appears in the epilog sequence.
He does not has an official name - for obvious reasons I am calling him Nemo.
Artwork from an official Postcard Book, released in 1991
He was also shown in a game - for one ending. I couldn't find a screenshot...
Parallel Sailor Moon
Usagi and Mamoru's second daughter, Kousagi (in an alternative reality.)
She only appears in one short story. And technically I do not really enjoy it that much. Its basically about her and the children of the inner senshis trying to bond. They do bully her and i hate that. i kinda want a second story where she gets treated better. But I know its pretty much impossible...
Zatara II
Zatanna Zataras and John Constantines son from Earth 22. There has been no confirmed first name for him...yet.
He has a small role in the Kingdom/Kingdom Come. However, there are some informations - he likes Pie, is in a Relationship with Avia, the daughter of Scott Free and Big Barda and he is able to see the ghosts. In the comic "Offspring" he talks exclusivly backwards and Avia translates.
I always wondered if the Kingdom Come mini series didn't get cancelled if we would have gotten a short story about him as well.
He is also the inspiration behind "Zachary Zatara", Zatannas "cousin" in the main continuity (sometimes, when they don't forget...or maybe erase him).
Sadly, the Kingdom Come animated movie got canceled. I was hoping to see Zatannas Legacy getting a tiny cameo.
Thanks for reading

I have a lot of favourite moments of Sailor moon the 90 anime, some of the most important s to me involved Rei and Usagui.
1) First season, it is after Rei sacrificed herself, the spirits of the others sailors encourage Usagui to keep going, and Rei still gives her tough love.
2) Last season, after Galaxia took their stellar seed, and Usagui plead to Rei, to not leave her.
What is your favourite moments of Sailor Moon?, manga, anime or any other adaptation
You just listed two of my favorites lmao. Usagi and Rei have my favorite relationship in the show, so any intense moment between them is instantly my favorite. I really like Rei's death in the season 1 finale. Her being the final one to go is just chef's kiss. Another Rei moment I like is near the end of the last season when she's the only one who notices Usagi is hiding her pain and confronts her about Mamoru not responding to her letters.
Other favorite moments without Rei are:
Usagi desperately trying to transform in the S finale (and pretty much the entire sequence that follows it with Saturn appearing and Sailor Moon defeating Pharoh 90 offscreen and coming back with baby Hotaru. good shit)
Usagi refusing to use the sword in the series finale
Pretty much all of episode 92 (A Handsome Boy? Haruka Tenoh's Secret) with Minako and Usagi crushing on Haruka. Top tier inner senshi shenanigans
Uranus and Neptune sacrificing themselves for the talismans
Michiru flirting with Seiya and Haruka walking in to have a butch-to-butch staredown
The Outer Senshi queer polycule family! Every moment with them just makes me so happy. I would watch a sitcom spinoff about the hopelessly romantic sapphic couple, ageless eternal being aunt and their spooky posessed daughter.
I could basically list any Haruka and Michiru moment here lmao
also whatever this moment is:

When I discovered Sailor Moon (the show, not the character) as a queer teenager, the moment I found out about Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus, they had my heart. On the other hand, it seems like the Inner Scouts speak more to you. I was wondering if you could talk a bit about what appeals to you about the Inners? I've been curious about this for ages but every time I tried to ask, it always sounded so confrontational, like JUSTIFY WHY YOU LIKE MERCURY AND NOT NEPTUNE NOW, NOW! For the record, I think the Inners are awesome as well (especially Mercury ♥ 🌊) and I'm just interested in hearing different perspectives.
When I was a young teen and first got into Sailor Moon, I was also obsessed with Uranus and Neptune! I drew so much art of them and they were extremely formative for me as a young queer person desperate for representation.
As I have revisited the fandom now in my mid 30's, I'm still enamored with HaruMichi, but I have also become a lot less interested in monogamous ships, in general. After a while, it feels repetitive and predictable. When it comes to poly ships, they are all so situationally and emotionally unique, that makes them extremely interesting and challenging to me to write.
I've also grown a lot more fond of the main characters (aka the inner senshi) because I neglected them most of my childhood in favor of focusing soley on HaruMichi.
I think there's an amazing potential for a very interesting poly ship with the inner senshi, especially as they all basically exist to love/protect one person, their princess. (Although admittedly, Usagi is my least favorite and the least interesting to me, lol.) I like all the different dynamics they have with each other one-on-one and as a unit.
I'm particularly interested in the ships that barely get any attention. Back in my day, Inners-shipping was basically a free-for-all with no one ship dominating the others.
But when it comes to Inners ships, fandom these days is basically just Reinako and MakoAmi, which is fine but not super compelling to me compared to their much more layers and complex group dynamic. I'm particularly interested in the one-on-one dynamics that get slept on in favor of the focus on Reinako/Makoami, like... what about Mina/Mako? Rei/Ami? A Rei sandwich between Usagi and Mina?
Romance/shipping aside, there's so much to dive into with their shared experiences and trauma. Child soldiers who have died for each other, over and over and over. Through multiple lifetimes, even. That kind of bond is compelling.
As for HaruMichi, I am actually planning a comic about them with my wife right now, potentially to become a series of short comics about the Outers family. Rather than focusing on HaruMichi as a couple, I really like thinking of them in terms of the whole family with Hotaru as their adopted kid and Setsuna being a co-parent (and who knows... maybe more?)

I love episode 191 of Sailor Moon, and feel like it doesn’t get enough credit. It’s pretty unique for a Sailor Moon monster of the day ep given it was only 9 episodes out from the series finale. And the episode decentralizes Sailor Moon herself, which in turns lets it truly analyze her role this season, along with adding complexity to the seasons overarching theme of what it means to be a Senshi.
First off, I love the setup, with the inners minus Usagi all participating in a video game tournament. The most unique thing about this is that this is the only time in the ENTIRE 200 episode/3 movie series that we focus on just the inners doing something without Usagi. It makes sense that we almost always see them with her, as they’re all besties, but also showing them hanging without her gives their lives more interiority and shows their bond too. And it gives us some really great and fun moments, with the ridiculousness of Mako/Mina/Rei vs Ami at the tournament.
The next part of Sailor Moon’s structure that the episode plays with is the monster battle. In this season all monsters are phages and were previously people, and Sailor Moon is the only person who can heal them back. This episode is the only one this season that looks at that as the strategic disadvantage it is. A phage shows up at the event (of course), and without Usagi there the inners just pretty much get their asses handed to them rather than hurt and potentially kill an innocent person. The Starlights themselves even comment on this, and I love this because it drives home a point that we take for granted but has been there since episode 1. These girls truly are heroes, and regularly put their lives on the line not necessarily to defeat the enemy, but to protect people, and this episode really highlights that difference.
This heroism then inspires the Starlights, in one of my favorite “Solar System Senshi”/“Sailor Starlights” interactions. Seiya sees the inners fighting a dead end fight without Sailor Moon, risking death because they want to protect the life of one single person. This leads them to question why they ever left their home planet, fleeing but also ensuring it’s destruction by Galaxia. This echoes one of the major thematic threads of the season, which is what makes a Sailor Senshi. The inners are sailors & have powers, but that doesn’t automatically make them heroes, it’s an active decision to protect that they follow through on that does. The season contrasts this most obviously with Sailor Galaxia, who uses her sailor powers for destruction & domination, but also in more subtle shades with the Starlights here. Seiya realizes if the inners can’t write off a single person, they could never write off their planet. And that maybe the Starlights’ willingness to write off people for the greater good, and flee potential further harm, was the first step to their planets destruction. I love that here the Starlights realize again that maybe there’s another way to fight a war, and that it’s something the inners do so instinctively that they don’t even think about it.
And lastly, I love how Sailor Moon fits in all of this. By not having her here, we really get to look at what her role is this season, and what she means to her team. None of the girls want to kill a phage and thus a person, which is something that Sailor Moon can solve. In effect, the plot cannot be solved without her here. This works in the literal sense, but also in a meta sense as well. Usagi has been the biggest proponent of harm reduction, and serving to protect, the entire time. In episode 1 it’s not a monster out there that gets Usagi up and fighting, it’s that her best friend Naru needs help and only she can save her. It’s this wish to protect the people around them, that has been driving the inners the entire time. It’s what drives the biggest stake between them and the outers in S, when they refuse to sacrifice anyone for the sake of the world, it’s fundamental to their ethos. And that’s why Sailor Moon’s eventual appearance is one of my favorite Usagi hero moments & entrances, because it works on two levels. Sailor Moon, the hero of the show, has arrived to take out the bad guy. But also to the inners Usagi is their hero because she’s protecting them from having to kill an innocent person. Thus Sailor Moon is protecting everyone, the phage and the inners. That’s why I love the way the episode plays with the idea/role of Sailor Moon as a whole: she doesn’t have the monster-healing power because she’s the hero of the story, but rather she’s the hero of this story bc she’s the one with the healing power, and out of the plethora of destructive powers the Senshi of earth possess, that healing power is the one they most value. That’s why the look of relief and love that the inners express when Sailor Moon shows up always melts my heart, and really shows how much she means to them here.
The episode isn’t perfect, but it’s fun and experiments with new ideas in a lot of really subtle ways, and is a much-needed late addition to the Sailor Moon canon.

Undead Unluck Week 2024
Day 6 - Favorite Quote: "Let's enjoy life"
Is it cheating to use a quote from the author rather than from the series itself? It better not be, cus for all of the quotes from this series that rattle around in my brain, either because they're extremely poignant ("What kind of man wants to see the woman he loves suffer?") or stupidly funny ("You not telling me was a test, wasn't it?" "Yes." "You're lying, aren't you?" "Yes."), this summation of the series posited by Tozuka's editor is the one that actually changed me
That may seem hyperbolic for a three-word quote, but ever since I saw that quote, it really has altered something in my brain chemistry. Like a Negator reinterpreting the meaning of their Rules, my whole worldview changed, at least subtly, when I heard that quote
Naturally it changed my approach to reading UU, as every scene, every moment, every quote, every panel suddenly became about reinforcing the idea that life is something to be enjoyed with other people. It's incredibly clear that this philosophy is the driving force for every single decision in the narrative, with every action that the main cast takes (and possibly even the villainous cast with recent revelations) being directly influenced by the goal of happiness, the search for the Greatest Life
Beyond that, though, I've found that it's influenced my daily life as well. In much the same way that Dungeon Meshi fans have an inner Senshi that reminds them to feed themselves, I now have an inner Tozuka that reminds me to find the joy in whatever I'm doing. Whether it's to remember the purpose of why I'm doing something in the first place or to convince me that the effort isn't worth it and I should stop, the maxim to enjoy myself gives me the clarity and perspective to focus on what matters
It's not always easy. Sometimes life just hits you a little too hard and you can't remember the words of wisdom that would help you through the rough patch. But remembering that the whole point of life is to enjoy it, to be around people you can enjoy it with, eases the burden a bit. It redirects your energy towards trying to be happy rather than trying not to be sad
Fiction is a source of comfort for people. Whether it's seeing people going through the same problems they are and overcoming them, seeing people who look like them thriving when they themselves otherwise can't, or even just hearing a quote that resonates with them, the escape into fantasy should, ideally, give you something to latch onto and bring back with you into the real world. It can be something simple, like a superhero story equipping you with the courage to stand up for yourself, or a romance showing you how to be open with your emotions, but the best stories always leave you better than they found you
I've always believed that the purpose of life is to enjoy it, but I don't think I ever quite put it in those terms or thought about it that concretely. It was more just a general feeling, an implicit understanding that a life without happiness can hardly be called living, but once I read Undead Unluck, it became much more than that. It became an active choice. I've decided to live my life in a way I can enjoy, even if all that means is appreciating the moments where I'm just relaxing instead of "living life to the fullest." I don't have to see everything the world has to offer, I don't have to push myself to achieve every dream I've ever had, but I can't beat myself up for not doing those things either. You can't enjoy life if you're too worried about not enjoying life enough, now can you?
To truly get the most out of life, we have to be willing to live it, and on some level that means accepting who we are as individuals and meeting ourselves in the middle. It's fine to push yourself, but if you push yourself to the point of misery, then there's no point to it. Some of you even suggested that very thing to me when I felt like my UU anime reviews were getting too repetitive to be fun. You all, as my community, actively tried to help me break my own pattern of unenjoyment. I don't know if I ever said it, but thank you for being there for me. Thank you for helping me to remember to enjoy myself. I hope that this post will help do the same for you
I'll see you all again tomorrow for the final day of UU Week 2024. After that, and until next year's celebration:
Let's enjoy life

Dungeon Meshi Chapter 20
We're finally taking care of that undine.
So yeah, Marcille did in fact get attacked earlier because she accidentally poured hot water on the undine.
Is everyone in this series low-key racist?
That's pretty cool how Marcille's staff can act as an external indicator to how much mana she has left.
Something about Namari having to leave the party due to financial issues bugs me. I'm not bugged by Namari specifically, I'm bugged more by the situation.
I've talked about my opinions on the Adventurers' guild from what little bits I've seen and my opinion on it has been generally negative and Namari's situation now makes me feel like the entire guild is just a scam meant to swindle adventurers.
It does provide various services such as corpse retrieval and resurrection, and it probably handles things like providing supplies and maybe building things like the docks in 4F, and it can act as a hub for adventurers to meet each other; but it always feels like the guild doesn't care about adventurers at all beyond what money it can squeeze out of them.
It should ultimately be the guild's responsibility to save Falin and if it isn't up to the task, then it should pay Laios's party to either recover Falin's remains or escort someone who can resurrect her.
I dunno. There doesn't seem to be any large or local government behind this. The Adventurer's guild could be a means for researchers, archaeologists, botanists, pharmacists, etc to get the help they need to get the help they need related to dungeon and adventurers should be more akin to salaried or contract workers. But the guild feels like the kind of business that tries to manipulate young people into doing free work for "exposure" and "because they're so passionate".
Marcille, these shenanigans are what I'd expect from Laios.
How forward thinking was Ryoko Kui on everything? We saw a mana herb in chapter 3 and mandrakes were introduced in chapter 4. They're close enough that Kui may have decided to link the two together when she drew a mana herb, but it's really neat how nothing exists in a void.
I'm imagining her writing her Dungeon Meshi bible and having a section about the monsters she wants to use with notes about what kinds of dishes they could be made into. Then there's a section about miscellaneous healing items, and at some point she looked at mana herbs and said "This one needs some background explaining its existence" and then she said it's actually a mandrake.
For once, Laios is the straight-man while Marcille is the one rambling inane methods to capture and eat monsters.
So Senshi's pot isn't just a cast-iron.
Namari said adamantine could withstand dragon fangs and break dragon bones. This had better be relevant when they fight the dragon.
I'm trying to think how Senshi's pot originally being a shield works. The best I can come up with is the original shield was slightly domed-shaped and the part that used to be the lid was the inner layer of the shield.
So yeah. This chapter confirms to me that Namari is a dwarf. I've praised Ryoko Kui a lot but now I'm disappointed that she's actually a coward. Why isn't she drawing Namari with the beautiful braided beard she deserves?
Namari tackled Laios with enough force to send him rolling and hit his head and he's suffering from it after the fight. His armor is dented where she tackled him.
This is the first chapter Laios's race was called Tallmen. Earlier chapters referred to him as a human.
When Marcille is peeling the tentacle, she's holding it with a cloth and it appears to be soaked in vinegar.
I'm going to take a guess here and say that a Tentacle got between Laios and Namari and stung them both at the same time.
Well it all worked out. Marcille recovered her mana.
Namari felt bad leaving the party in dire straits and learning they're eating monsters to get by made her guilt escalate even further. As soon as she tried the food and tasted how good it was, she realized that the party is doing fine and she doesn't need to worry.
Mr Tansu was concerned through this chapter that Namari might rejoin Laios's party out of some sense of obligation or guilt over their situation. All of them sharing the meal Senshi and Marcille made got them to understand that Laios's party is fine and they don't need to worry about them.
Even though it's better for Namari to stick with Mr Tensu's party both for financial and reputation reasons, I'm super bummed that she's not going to stick around. She has great chemistry with the party and there could be an extra layer to the basic story concept by having someone who might take an interest in using monster parts to make tools and weapons.
I think Namari is trying to learn a few things about the whole "Cooking monsters" thing. She's watching intently while Senshi explains something to Chilchuck.
Chilchuck says he's only helping because he was paid in advance and is obligated to stick around, but I bet there's more to it. This is above and beyond his contractual obligations.
And the other guy who left the party in chapter 1 is Shuro. Namari says he likes Falin and proposed to her. So now I need to know why he didn't stick with the party. If he has other connections, maybe he could have funded the journey to rescue Falin instead of leaving Laios to fend for himself.
We'll likely meet him at some point since he apparently is trying to save Falin as well.

Some of my Sailor Moon headcanons for your considerations:
Manga:
Before Beryl found them again, the reincarnated Shitennou were on occasion bumping into and being drawn in by Mamoru much the same way the Inners were with Usagi.
Kunzite worked as a security guard at one point, a job obviously not dissimilar to his role as body guard in the Silver Millennium. During one night shift he had an encounter with Tuxedo Mask.
Before Usagi became Sailor Moon, Sailor V and Tuxedo Mask also had an encounter similar to the one from the opening scene of PGSM. PGSM had input from Takeuchi and was originally intended to be a more faithful manga adaptation than the 1992 anime, so this is good enough for me to say it is essentially 'author approved'
The Thyron Crystal that Pharaoh 90 possesses was to the Tau Nebula what the Silver Crystal was to the Solar System. Basically, had Metalia's plans succeeded the Solar System would have wound up much the same as the Tau Nebula
Since Pharaoh 90 never knew about the Silver Crystal (whilst the other Chaos extensions did) and required Mistress 9 to act as a host body for him Pharaoh 90 was probably the first and most primitive of Chaos' creations
Nehalennia's 'curse' that Serenity would die was less her invoking an actual magic spell and more her sort of being cryptic about how Metalia was already lying in wait within the Sun
Princess Serenity/Usagi is an 'extension' of Queen Serenity, in much the same way Metalia, Nehalennia, etc are extensions of Chaos
The Amazon Stones that the Sailor Quartet wield are basically just their Star Seeds
It was Queen Serenity who implanted the Quartet's stones on Earth, concerned that if Serenity got pregnant, her future grandchild would need protectors
'Sailor Galaxia' is not an actual Senshi title. That was just a moniker the villain we know (and fear) adopted for herself as an act of aggrandisement. She should actually be Sailor
Anime
The Amazoness Quartet existed during the Silver Millennium and were originally the children of circus families
Usagi never turned back time when she restored Nehalennia to her childhood. She literally de-aged her just as she did with Hotaru and reconstituted the atoms of her entire Kingdom and people, resurrecting them completely
The Dark Kingdom was in fact a subterranean kingdom on Earth during the Silver Millennium. Its members were not human, but rather minerals made flesh through Metalia's evil energy, shaped by the collective dreams and nightmares of humanity
By extension 'Metalia' is in fact a mutilated pronunciation of 'mother' by the Youma.
Some Youma survived the fall of the Dark Kingdom at the end of season 1 and would go on to be the ancestors of the Black Moon Clan
Jadeite didn't die when the Dark Kingdom fell. In reality he lived on and eventually became Wiseman
When Neo-Queen Serenity salvaged the Earth from the great cataclysm that befell it, she invoked similar magic to the kind she used at the end of Season 1 and that Queen Serenity used in the Silver Millennium. As a result, she and her friends do not have 100% clear memories of their lives in the 20th century accounting for why they were blindsided by the Black Moon Clan's invasion
Following Nehalennia's second defeat, Setsuna moved in with Hotaru and Professor Tomoe
Because Galaxia's Star Seed was drawn to Usagi, it instinctively adopted a physical form that resembled both her and Chibi-Usa, accounting for why Usagi and the gang noticed similaried between ChibiChibi and Usagi/Chibi-Usa
In Crystal Tokyo, the gang have so thoroughly mastered their Senshi abilities that they can transform into any level that they desire, standard Senshi, Super Senshi, Eternal Senshi, etc. This is why in Season 2 we see them in their normal Senshi outfits despite them having unlocked their Super forms in the series.

Sailor Moon Museum Part 6
All the information provided on the Sailor Moon Cosmos Move at the museum in 2022. Two part movies set to premiere in early summer 2023.
Sign for the Sailor Moon anime collection room. The sign that explains the entire room.... after I looked at everything. Oops.
Sign for the next room. The room fill with all the merchandise goodies from the 90s to present with over 600 items. Many I own and were featured on this blog. I also saw a whole bunch of things I never seen before... many which I ended up purchasing!
Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion. Part of the 2016 Sailor Moon Exhibit in Roppongi.
All the merch!!! Some of these look really familiar now. Bandai release for 90s items. Closer up phots to flow. Cute Super Sailor Moon dress!
Transformation lockets and star locket. I didn't realize they had a prism locket. Proplica later released one.
Chalice were Pegasus hide in Chibi Usa's room, star locket (future post!) and the star wands from the R series. Somewhere I have Mercury and Mars but it's in a box somewhere. I've discovered a some of collection got separated when I moved and there are still some boxes that were never unpacked. I guess I needed that motivation to go through those boxes, eh?
Close up of the star wand wands along with Stars mech. Gloves, Star Yell (on my wish list but so $$$).
The Luna P is so cute!!!!
Close up of Stars merchandise. I now have the Star Headset. But that Star Yell keeps taunting me.
Close up of Eternal brooch, gloves, and Eternal dress.
Propolica. I was so excited when these were released since I was never able to buy these in the 90s.
Proplica brooches.
Children's dresses for each of the Inner Senshi.
Proplica wands. Eternal Tiare was not released at this time.
Still searching for a Holy Chalice that is not super expensive.
I have the Bandai or Irwin release off the four staffs below.
I'm glad they released the wands for Uranus and Neptune, but why not Pluto and Saturn? There are so many other items they can release from the show!
SuperS scepter and wand beneath.
I have about half the items in this picture. Outers wands are hard to come by.
First time I saw the star wand for the Inners. Afterward I started to look for one and found one!
Doll box. Love the look!
Lots of little plushies.
So many different versions.
The few times you find Tuxedo Kamen!

My rankings for every season in the Sailor Moon franchise
It’s been well over a month since Sailor Moon Cosmos dropped on Netflix, and the hype still hasn’t worn off me just yet. Sailor Moon is actually a very special franchise to me because it was one of the very first anime I watched as a kid, and now, having just watched Cosmos this year, I decided to rank all seasons from both the 90s anime and Crystal together on one list, from worst to best (or from least favorite to most favorite, since this is all my own subjective opinion). And yes, this will include Eternal and Cosmos, since they’re part of the Crystal canon.
10. Sailor Moon Crystal - Season 1 (2014):
Starting at the very bottom of my list is a choice that might come off as controversial to some, but even if you love every single season of Crystal, I’m sure most of us can agree that Crystal’s first season was pretty rough in terms of quality. Aside from the wonky animation and the uncanny valley designs of the girls, the thing that bothers me the most about this season is how utterly ignored the Inner Senshi are in favor of the “Miracle Romance”. I don’t hate the UsaMamo ship as a whole, but they really didn’t need to sacrifice the characters of all the Inner Senshi (and their little bonding moments with Usagi in the manga) in order to make the main romance look good! The most egregious examples of this are:
And don’t even get me started on that horrible “romantic subplot” between the Inner Senshi and the Shitennou that wasn’t even in the manga! If you want to read more about how awful that was, crystalquality made a great post about it right here. Anyway, Season 1 of Crystal was a massive disappointment for me. So if you really want a darker, more mature version of the Dark Kingdom arc, I suggest you stick with the manga version.
9. Sailor Moon: Sailor Stars (1996):
Now, as someone who grew up during the 90s and early 2000s, I enjoyed watching every season of the original Sailor Moon anime on TV…or at least, every season that was available to watch in the States. Fast forward to some time around 2018-2019, where I watched the subbed version of the whole Stars season on the Viz Media streaming site, and…needless to say, I was very disappointed by it. Granted, it did have some good things like the soundtrack, a few good moments between Usagi and Rei, and some very cute HaruMichi moments. However, for me, this is a season where the bad elements outweigh the good.
The story moves at a snail’s pace (despite being the shortest season of the 90s anime), the Sailor Animamates are annoying and WAY too incompetent at their job, Galaxia hardly does anything until the last 7 episodes, Chibi-Chibi is completely useless, and the Sailor Starlights take too much focus away from other important characters (including Princess Kakyuu, who was also utterly useless here)!
Not only that, but the Inner Senshi all act completely out of character for most of this season, including poor Ami.
Alright, who are you and what’ve you done to the real Ami Mizuno?
And speaking of the Inner Senshi, Minako is at her absolute worst in Sailor Stars!
And that’s only one example. Seriously though, if I were to list any more of Minako’s worst moments in Stars, we’d be here all day.
8. Sailor Moon SuperS (1995):
I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with this season. Let’s start with the positives. The fantasy circus motif easily makes this one of the more aesthetically pleasing arcs in the series; the Amazon Trio start off really unlikable, yet in their last stretch of episodes, you can’t help but root for them. The Amazoness Quartet are also very likable and endearing, and I really appreciate what the 90s anime writers were trying to do with Nehelenia in this version (don’t really feel like going into full detail, but @ultraericthered made a great post about it right here).
On the other hand, this is the point in the 90s anime where Chibiusa stops being interesting and doesn’t even grow as a Sailor Senshi (despite the fact that this season is supposed to be the big turning point in her character arc)! It’s also the season where all 5 of the main Senshi get terribly nerfed by a magical talking horse. Speaking of which, why is Chibiusa’s relationship with Helios so shady in this version? I mean, at the start of the season, he reveals himself (in Pegasus form) to Chibs and Usagi to give them their new power-ups. Yet, right after that, he decides to spend a good middle chunk of the season hiding away in Chibiusa’s room, where he has Chibiusa keep their whole relationship a secret from the other Senshi; and my question is WHY?! It makes no sense, and makes Helios come across as a creep! I swear, he was so much better in the manga!
7. Sailor Moon Crystal - Season 2 (2015):
To clarify, I am not a Crystal hater. Yes, I do think the 1st season’s bad, but that doesn’t mean I think “all” of Crystal is bad. For instance, Season 2 gives us some of those classic goofy anime expressions that we were sorely missing from Season 1. Plus, each of the Inner Senshi get to have their own character-focused episode (before 3 of them end up getting abducted by the Black Moon Clan). Plus, it gives Sailor Pluto some much needed spotlight after being so underutilized in the 90s anime. And while the Black Moon Clan in this version are nowhere near as interesting as they were in Sailor Moon R, they’re still very threatening and work well as villains.
However, the reason I have this season so low at #7 is, sadly, because of Usagi. You see, since Crystal was made to follow the manga more closely, that unfortunately means we have to see Usagi behave like this throughout the first half of the arc:
Now, I know Usagi had some resentment towards Chibiusa in Sailor Moon R as well, but that was only because Chibiusa in that version was a little menace. Plus, the jealousy Usagi had over Mamoru in that version came from the fact that Mamo just broke up with her (because of a terrifying vision he had from King Endymion), and she was worried she did something wrong. Crystal’s version just makes Usagi come across as possessive and unlikable, which is probably why Black Moon is my least favorite arc in the manga as well.
6. Sailor Moon Classic (1992):
It pains me to place this one as low as #6, because I really do love this season a lot. The Shitennou actually have distinct personalities, Usagi’s friendship with Naru is a lot more prominent here than in any other incarnation of Sailor Moon, and I think the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Usagi and Mamo is actually very endearing and makes their romance feel way less rushed as a result. However, with this being a weekly anime series from the 90s, there’s still a few pacing issues to be found. I didn’t mind the whole Rainbow Crystals mini-arc, nor did I mind that we had to wait till episodes 8 and 10 for Mercury and Mars to show up. Unfortunately, things get a bit more tedious when we have to wait out another 15 episodes for Jupiter to show up (the wait for Venus didn’t bother me much though, since her debut episode came hot off the heels of the Rainbow Crystals arc). The Evil Endymion arc also dragged on a lot longer than I would’ve liked. Still, this is easily one of the better adaptations of the Dark Kingdom arc, and will always hold a very special nostalgic place in my heart.
5. Sailor Moon R (1993):
I’ve already explained in great detail back in a different post on why this season is so criminally underrated to me. So, instead of repeating myself here, you can just read that to see why.
4. Sailor Moon Crystal - Season 3 (2016):
WOAH! Talk about a major upgrade! Not only does the animation here look a hundred times better than it did in the first 2 seasons of Crystal, but the character designs look way more appealing and feel like a nice middle ground between the classic 90s style and Naoko’s artstyle from the manga. Plus, we finally get to see Usagi and the Inner Senshi interact like real friends this time around! We also get to see the Inner Senshi contribute more to the fights, unlike the first 2 seasons of Crystal, where they constantly got their asses handed to them and needed Usagi to bail them out. Even the romance between Usagi and Mamoru is way more charming and less nauseating this time.
Also, gotta give this season props for making the Witches 5 feel more like a genuine threat, because in the 90s anime (with the exception of Eudial) they all felt like weaker and less memorable versions of the Specter Sisters from Sailor Moon R.
That being said, this season isn’t perfect. While most of the transformation sequences look amazing in the 3rd season of Crystal, Usagi’s just looks a bit too rubbery for my taste. Also, hot take, but I personally did NOT care for Haruka and Michiru in this version. In Crystal, they feel more like walking exposition dumps rather than actual characters. Meanwhile in the 90s anime, we got to know more about their civilian lives, how they first met, and they had personalities that didn’t exclusively revolve around Usagi. Also, for the only canonical lesbian couple in the entire series, it’s kinda gross how Crystal made Haruka and Michiru seem like mere plot devices to strengthen the relationship between the main hetero couple (then again, this was a problem in the manga’s Infinity arc as well, so I can’t really fault Crystal for that).
Aside from those issues, this was a very solid adaptation of Naoko’s Infinity arc, and its higher quality really helped set the stage for the final 2 Crystal adaptations later down the line.
3. Sailor Moon S (1994):
Now, I will admit that Season 3 of Crystal is better than S in terms of plotting and pacing, but the emotions…God, the emotions! They just hit so much harder in S than they do in Crystal!
And that Outer Senshi theme music by Takanori Arisawa is the absolute Chef’s Kiss of Sailor Moon music, bar none!
Plus, I actually like that Hotaru/Saturn got to be the one to save Earth this time. True, it would’ve been much better if we actually got to see the final battle between Saturn and Pharaoh-90, but I still think it’s a great season nonetheless.
2. Sailor Moon Cosmos (2023):
Man, talk about a grand finale! These two movies were just about everything Sailor Stars should’ve been. The Starlights are so much more likable and don’t feel like a plot tumor this time, the Sailor Animamates are given less screen time but are far more competent at their job, Chibi-Chibi is much more proactive and isn’t just there to be sickeningly cute, Galaxia’s more of an active threat throughout the story, and Princess Kakyuu is finally given the respect she deserves! Not only that, but Chibi Moon gets to have a role in the climax too (something that was also sorely missing from Sailor Stars).
Some may find it jarring to see all the other Senshi get killed off so abruptly in this version, but I didn’t mind it, because it gave Usagi the motivation she needed to go off into space with Princess Kakyuu and the Starlights to stop Galaxia.
Bottom line: These movies were terrific and a perfect way to cap off the Crystal series!
Sailor Moon Eternal (2021):
While the 90s anime version of the Dream arc may have been disappointing for many fans, these two movies completely rectify that problem by giving us what is, in my opinion, the BEST possible version of that arc! The Amazon Trio aren’t quite as memorable here as they were in SuperS, but to be fair, they’re not supposed to be “major” villains in this version, just basic obstacles for the Inner Senshi to face when they unlock their new powers. Speaking of which, the way the Inner Senshi get their new powers is SO much more satisfying here than how they got them in SuperS (especially Mako and Minako, who I thought were done very dirty in the latter)! There’s no nerfing the Senshi for contrived reasons. All the girls get an equal amount of time to shine in Eternal, including the Outer Senshi, which the SuperS season was sorely missing, but I digress.
Another thing I really appreciate about Eternal, was how it handled Helios and Queen Nehelenia. Helios is actually a lot more helpful this time, and not some cryptic emo boy that’s constantly keeping secrets for very contrived reasons. Plus, his romance with Chibiusa is a lot less creepy and a lot more wholesome in Eternal. Nehelenia, while already an entertaining villain in the 90s anime, is even more interesting here, because her past with Queen Serenity adds more emotional stakes to the conflict between her and the royal family of the White Moon.
Anyway, that was my personal ranking of each Sailor Moon “season”. Do you agree or disagree? Let me know what you think in the notes, if you want to.
