I’ve seen a few people argue that sydney sweeney’s popularity with straight men rn is a bellwether for the “age of the butt” being over. boobs are so back, etc. I mean, maybe? but i think there are two other things going on with her specifically.

her appearance, non-boob wise, has a very 90s-early 00s feel. and i don’t know what the polite way to say this is but… she doesn’t look like 14 people died mining the silicone that’s in her face, is the blunt way of saying it. she has frown lines. her eyes are asymmetrical. I’m not insulting her – this is good. that and her demeanor in interviews etc comes off as warm, bubbly, bordering on ditzy tbh but I’m not here to judge. when you put those two things together, you get “hot but approachable”.

so what do I mean? I think it’s probably also indicative that we’ve collectively burnt out on Instagram face. heavily filtered and heavily augmented is out! the people have spoken, and they demand sydney sweeney.

and even looping this back around to the boobs – half of the appeal to her simps is that she doesn’t have implants. pay attention!

"Ow!" So much for stability. She banged her knee as the stone that she'd stood on rolled backwards.

Sarah tuned them out. She had known, before she'd even opened her mouth, that making a bet with the Goblin King would be a terrible idea. But she was tired of the goblins trampling her makeup and eating all her little brother's crayons. And if competing in the goblins' Chicken Olympics was what got them to stop, well, she had been willing to try it.

She just hadn't counted on needing to be able to fly. Or pretty much any of the rest of it.

This whole thing really wasn't fair. She should have known.

I dream of the mountain. It reaches me in my sleep more often than I can sometimes bear. The place of death, of undoing. The place of enlightenment, of understanding. The dream takes on different shapes and colors, but the feeling it leaves me with is always the same.

I dream of an iron gate, barring off a fearsome thunderstorm illuminated by a warm sunset. Before this gate are three rows of 20, including myself. Certain death is behind those bars, a holy mission only a select few are permitted to embark on. I am not one of the few chosen out of the 60 of us, and my heart breaks at this news.

I dream of a sheer cliff wall, guarded heavily by dark creatures ready to lunge on a moment’s notice. I am leading an expedition to this cliff to investigate a treasure hidden within its solid stone. We sneak past the demons, watching each other attentively as we gain inches. Suddenly, we’re detected: one airborne demon swoops in and attacks the party. I make a last-ditch dash for the cliff wall, and I get close enough to see a crack in the cliff face large enough for me to crawl into. From within the crevice a red light shines, a light that feels like if I reach its source, I could undo all of creation if I chose; this revelation only heightens my eagerness.

I dream of the pilgrim’s path. Marching up a snowy, forested trail, butterflies in my stomach, knowing that death and ascension are at the end of the road. I’ve walked this road before, many times, but the companion that travels alongside me - a young, timid girl - knows not what lies ahead. As the clouds begin to break and the sun shines over the final peak, she grips my arm. I smile confidently at her: “First time?”

I dream of death. I dream of what comes after. Normally such dreams would be nightmarish or leaving one with an emptiness indescribable. But instead I feel accomplishment. Even a mutual respect.

It is now January 1, 2023. I have been playing Sky daily for two entire years now. This game has done so much for me in that time: I made tons of new friends. I learned so many things. I carved out a niche and made it my bread and butter. This game has made me patient, more tolerant, more considerate of others; it has made me a better teacher, a better friend; it has made me laugh, cry, and smile.

But most importantly of all, this game made me brave. I dream of death, of undoing, of scaling the mountain, and this game has inspired me to meet every one of those challenges.

Here’s to two entire years of being brave and teaching that bravery to others. Here’s to two more coming with the community that I call home.
