Born in Dallas, Texas, Rosita grew up in a working-class household. Her father left her mother for another woman and moved to another state when Rosita was two, so Rosita never really knew her father. He would rarely visit his daughter.
Her affinity for fixing stuff began when she was little as her mother could not easily afford mechanics or new household appliances. So she taught herself mechanic skills and she found a passion in repairing broken stuff.
Her mother would often work multiple jobs in order to be able to make a living for herself and Rosita. During her teenage years they often moved around a from town to town. Rosita began to work jobs as a mechanic or waitress to keep a roof over their head.
When Rosita was 15, her mother died of ovarian cancer. When her brother Luz, who was eight years older, heard the news he moved into an apartment with Rosita and his son so his sister wouldn't be put into a foster home. While they lived together Rosita often had to babysit her nephew and help him with homework.
After high school graduation, Rosita trained as a mechanic in a trade school before joining the army in the hope of getting a college scholarship after completing her service. Her dream had been to get into nursing school like she always wanted since she was little.
At some point during the outbreak, Rosita met the military sergeant Abraham Ford and his friend Eugene Porter in Houston, Texas. The three of them were part of a larger group, though the group eventually got smaller and smaller until only the three of them were left. During her time with the group, Rosita used her charms to persuade various group members to teach her their skills. She formed a friendship with Abraham which eventually became a romantic relationship.
During this time Rosita also found out that Austin, Texas had been bombed, which was the town her brother and nephew had been located when the virus broke out.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz proposed a solution to school shootings: Stationing as many armed police officers in schools as there are in banks. Less than two weeks later, a shooter in Kentucky opened fire at a bank, killing at least five people and injuring eight others.
"You know, when you go to the bank, and you deposit money in the bank, there are armed police officers at the bank. Why? Because we want to protect the money we save. Why on earth do we protect a stupid deposit more than our children?" Cruz said on March 30.
"We have an opportunity right now to double the police officers on campus and keep kids safe," Cruz added.
He reiterated the sentiment in a tweet on March 31.
Cruz's proposed bill on school safety, which he has been pushing for months, was blocked in the Senate on March 30.
The Senator's insistence that banks are a paragon of safety and security came just days before a 25-year-old bank employee opened fire on his colleagues.
Cruz has, in the past, made widely panned suggestions on how to stop gun violence.
After the Uvalde school shooting, where a shooter killed 21 people, Cruz floated a bizarre idea for preventing school shootings: Having a "single point of entry" in schools.
"Fire exits should only open out. At that single point of entry, we should have multiple armed police officers or, if need be, military veterans trained to provide security and keep our children safe," Cruz said in an interview with Fox News, published on May 27.
Cruz was also booed at a September festival in Austin after his comments on gun legislation. At the festival, Cruz suggested that violence "is actually the only thing" that helps stop violence — a common, right-wing talking point often trotted out by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Cruz is also an NRA-friendly GOP politician. Days after the Uvalde shooting, Cruz refused to cancel his appearance at the organization's leadership conference in Houston. Justifying his decision, he told CBS News that the NRA "stands up for your rights, stands up for my rights, and stands up for the rights of every American."
Texas has the highest firearm mortality rate of any state — 4,164 firearm-related deaths in 2020 — per statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Representatives for Cruz did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment sent outside regular business hours.

The Game Credits Suggest There Is A Cut Scene/I found Episode 7… In a way.
Hello everybody, if you are just joining me let me briefly catch you up on how we got here, I decided to rewatch the web series that was made early into Payday 2's lifespan to advertise the game to take notes, I am working on a retelling of Payday 2 with a friend so am researching everything I can.
While I was watching I got curious about the identity of a series of very similar characters, which lead to me researching their actresses for my wrap up post on the Notes posts I had been making.
But the thing is that I found a site that had posted the credits of Payday 2 because the thing is, there is a section for The Payday Web Series, covering all the main characters, and then all extra characters scene by scene they are introduced though episodes one to six. And then there are scenes with names and credits that I never saw, there has been rumors of a episode 7 that never was publicly shown and I think I stumbled into the credits for this episode, so I will share these and give my best guess as to what was happening in these scenes.
Here is the site (also you can check this out in game) and here are a few notes on how it seems the credits work which will color my theories
The credits do not go over people multiple times, and there are two types of sections for the cast of the web series, there is the “Cast” section which consists of what could be considered the main cast, and then it goes scene by scene with minor characters with no repeating, for example Yuri's actor is not credited multiple times only for his first appearance.
The credits are not perfect, characters with names such as the news reporters are not credited with those names but just a title.
The minor characters section seems to be in chronological order of how one views the show, the last section with a scene we can actually watch is crediting the girls in the safehouse with Houston, Chains & Dallas, after this in episode 6 we don't meet any more minor characters, so everything after the Poker Credits Section is likely from episode 7
If a scene only has recurring characters I have no way to know about it, so my theories definitely going to be missing things in the episode such as Bain's monologs.
Now onto the scenes, again remember my theories can't really account for what other scenes could be in the episode with only recurring characters and I also don't know how long the episode would have been, I am going to assume like the later episodes it will make it to the teens of minutes at least. Also I am gonna assume you know the plot of the Web Series, if you don't then watch it and perhaps read my notes on the episodes on this blog
Payday: The Web Series - Gun Range
Hamilton - LeVar Burton
Firearms Instructor #1 - Bill Beasley
Firearms Instructor #2 - Sean Arli
Hamilton's Posse - Tomek Kosalka
Okay so my best guess is that this is
follow-up about The Haitian buying several guns from Gage & maybe testing them?
The instructors could indicate this is a scene about training someone? Though the posse presence is throwing me off. For this option my beat guess is Dallas taking Houston here as petty revenge by implying Houston needs shooting lessons?
This could also be connected to Lukas's movie as later credits indicate we were going to see a bit more of him, so this could have been him procuring the weapons Bain mentions Lukas smuggles for Crime.Net. To me this seems the most likely since it relates to other scenes and other credits we have for episode 7.
As for the characters I think Hamilton was in most likelihood a alternative weapons dealer to Gage or otherwise the owner of the gun range
Payday: The Web Series - Guitar Warehouse
Don Elias - Carlos Gallardo
Tiago - Bill Hudson
Elias Bodyguard #2 - Ken Gust
Forklift Operator - Jeff Moore
Okay doing this one definitely as HOLY SHIT DON ELIAS! For those who didn't actually watch the series or read my notes before this, Don Elis is repeatedly mentioned in the web series as a dangerous criminal enemy of Crime.Net/Bain but we don't actually meet him in canon! Another fun fact is Carlos Gallardo's Wikipedia page incorrectly credits him of playing Don Elias in episode 6, but as someone who has watched that episode at least five times at this point let me tell you there are no guitar warehouses that show up after the Poker Game in episode 6.
Anyways my thoughts on this
Okay so really I think it's what is on the tin, probably a scene actually establishing who Don is, what is he doing, what the warehouse is a front for since I doubt it is actually guitars, that sort of stuff.
This might be a meeting between Don & a established character given he has two body guards with him, the named guard Tiago and a unnamed one, given it's only two in likelihood some sort of ally? But right now I couldn't point to who this early in Payday 2 would have been shown as a traitor.
Payday: The Web Series - Outside FBI Office
FBI Agent DuJuan - DuJuan Johnson
Okay my only guess is this would have been another Jordan Griffin scene, possibly with Agent Riker also present but as for what would happen I earnestly don't know as Jordan is the only character in the web series to like have a ending that remotely works as a ending to her story in it, so another scene without any chance for followup would really really open a can of worms. But we only see the FBI HQ from Jordan's eyes so we can assume it would have been a scene with her.
Also I checked and none of the other names on Jordan's network match Agent DuJuan, so outside of that I don't have anything to base guesses off, I can assume they were spoken with at least once but as Dallas's bank assistant Sam whose lack of name being mentioned in episode made me so confused on who “Sam” was until the game credits can tell you: name in credits doesn't mean important or one's name being mentioned.
Payday: The Web Series - Additional Cast
Rami - Amir Perets
Noah - Tal Berkovich
Lukas Starlette #1 - Sue Ann Pien
Lukas Starlette #2 - Amber F. Rose
Lukas Starlette #3 - Heather P. Cohn
Gage Video Singer - Michelle Lewis
Okay this one doesn't give any context to the scenes they were in and I suspect these are actors from multiple scenes, possibly unfinished ones? Which would explain it being in this larger sections instead of scene by scene.
When it comes to the Starlettes that's why I guessed we would have seen more of Lukas in this episode and likely some stuff focused on his movie.
Rami & Noah could be anyone, Rami is played by a martial artist so perhaps would have been either in a fight scene or like a different characters bodyguard/goon, and then Noah's actress doesn't seem that notable, though given the trends in the show & her having brown hair she probably won't have been a girlfriend/arm candy character.
Now the “Gage Video Singer” is sadly not a dub actor for Gage himself, no it's a female singer either a folk singer or a lady that made some of the music for dc super hero girls. So either Gage was meant to listen to a song or a scene with him was going to have a song playing over it.
My Thoughts On This
I am left wondering who the episode would have been titled for, we had:
First World Bank Heist
Elephant
Hector
Gage & Vlad
Greta
So we are mainly missing gang members, Bain and perhaps Don Elias? My main guesses are either Don Elias or… A Bain backstory episode? Which I doubt would have ended well but uh is possible in the fever dream of a web series.
Right now there isn't enough for me to like tell you what the episode would have been, but I think this is a pretty big step in knowing since before I haven't seen these credits unconnected to the unreleased episode 7.
If you have any theories or thoughts please send them my way! I would love to hear it!

Guns and the GOP....
After Mass Shootings, Republicans Expand Access to Guns
Mike Baker, Serge F. Kovaleski and Glenn Thrush
Thu, March 30, 2023 at 4:38 AM PDT
After a mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas last year prompted calls for new gun restrictions, Republican-led states around the country moved in the other direction. One of them was Tennessee, where the governor insisted that tighter firearms laws would never deter wrongdoers.
“We can’t control what they do,” Gov. Bill Lee said.
Tennessee lawmakers have instead moved to make firearms even more accessible, proposing bills this year to arm more teachers and allow college students to carry weapons on campus, among other measures.
Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times
Then came the attack Monday at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, where a shooter carrying multiple weapons killed six people, including three children. The same day, a federal judge signed off on a state settlement allowing people as young as 18 to carry a handgun without a permit.
Amid the ghastly cadence of multiple mass shootings that have prompted calls for more comprehensive controls on guns, Republicans in statehouses have been steadily expanding access to guns.
In Kentucky, Ohio, Nebraska, Texas and Virginia, Republicans have pushed this year to limit gun-free zones, remove background checks and roll back red-flag laws that seek to remove firearms from those who are a danger to themselves or others.
“I think it’s gotten progressively worse over the years,” North Carolina’s Democratic governor, Roy Cooper, said in an interview. On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled legislature in his state overrode his veto and eliminated a century-old pistol permitting system.
In 25 states, no permits are required to carry a handgun — nine more than in 2020.
“That has been the most rapid expansion of gun rights at the state level that we have seen,” said Jacob Charles, an associate professor who specializes in firearms law at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law.
Perhaps nowhere represents the shift to expand gun access more than Tennessee, a state at the crossroads of Appalachia, the upper South and lower Midwest whose politics on guns typify Red America’s rapid movement rightward on gun regulations.
In recent years, Republicans in the Tennessee state legislature — a 20-minute drive from the site of this week’s mass shooting — have passed a series of measures that have weakened regulations, eliminating some permit requirements and allowing most residents to carry loaded guns in public, open or concealed, without a permit, training or special background checks.
The decisions came even after a representative of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association rose at a legislative hearing to oppose the permitting measure, saying it would make knowing whether a person was unlawfully carrying a weapon more difficult for law enforcement.
Jerry Sexton, then a Republican state representative, accused him of wanting “to infringe upon the rights of us as a people.”
“I am offended by the fact that you are doing this,” Sexton said. “I say that you need to back off and let citizens be citizens.”
Republican leaders around the country have rushed to burnish their firearms credentials, mindful that even the suggestion that they are not all-in on gun rights could have political consequences.
A congressman in Georgia ran for the office in 2020 with yard signs featuring an AR-15 rifle. Former President Donald Trump made a point of appearing in person at the National Rifle Association convention in Houston in May 2022, not long after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Other candidates have repeatedly been using guns in television ads.
Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican whose district includes the Covenant School where this week’s mass shooting took place, posted a Christmas photo of his family posing with rifles in 2021. The photo drew criticism this week in the aftermath of the killings.
“Why would I regret a photograph with my family exercising my rights to bear arms?” he said.
Missouri last year enacted a measure that made it illegal for local law enforcement to cooperate with federal authorities in many gun investigations. A federal judge this month struck down the law as unconstitutional.
The NRA remains a potent force on the right despite a recent drop in fundraising, amid questions about the lavish spending habits of its senior leadership in the Beltway. And the gun rights movement itself has become both more diffuse and influential, with local groups — including the Gun Owners of America and the conservative Dorr brothers network in the Midwest — gaining a following, and pressuring Republican state lawmakers from the right.
In the Nashville killing, the parents of the shooter — identified by police as Audrey E. Hale — had reported that their child was under doctors’ care and “should not own weapons,” said Chief John Drake of the Nashville Metro Police Department. The shooter had purchased seven firearms from five local gun stores and then used three of them during the attack.
The Republican initiatives have not been limited to statehouses. In Congress, the same day as the Tennessee shooting, the House Judiciary Committee chair, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, postponed a hearing during which he planned to make the case for a Republican bill to outlaw one of the modest regulatory efforts undertaken by the Biden administration, a requirement to register so-called stabilizing braces that allow semi-automatic pistols to be propped against the shoulder for easier, more focused firing.
Images of the weapons used in the Nashville shooting appeared to show that the killer owned such a brace and might have used it in the attack, according to law enforcement officials. It would not have been illegal to possess one — owners of the braces have until the end of May to register their weapons and pay a $200 fee to comply with the change.
“Democrats were going to turn this tragic event into a political thing,” Jordan told reporters at the Capitol on Monday night. He said he had no plans to withdraw the measure or to slow his push to loosen gun laws.
One of Tennessee’s senators, Marsha Blackburn, made no mention of gun control ideas but called on Congress to find ways to increase security in schools.
Lee vowed to “act to prevent this from happening again” in Tennessee but did not offer any specifics on how he planned to do so. A key committee in the state General Assembly decided to postpone the consideration of any bills relating to guns until next week, with state Sen. Todd Gardenhire, a Chattanooga Republican, saying, “We need to be respectful of those victims and the families of the victims.”
Researchers examining the impact of mass shootings on gun policy found a few years ago that states with Republican-controlled legislatures were more likely to loosen gun laws in the year after a mass shooting in their state than in other years.
States led by Democrats have long been pursuing more stringent gun control measures.
In Connecticut after the school shooting in Newtown in 2012, state lawmakers expanded an assault weapons ban, banned high-capacity magazines and implemented universal background checks. Oregon voters last year approved a sweeping gun control measure, which requires gun purchasers to get a permit and take a gun safety course, that is currently being challenged in court.
Other measures under consideration this year include efforts in Minnesota to make it easier to take guns from people deemed to be a threat, a plan in Oregon to ban untraceable guns that are assembled at home and a bill in Michigan to penalize those who leave guns in places accessible to children.
State Rep. Bo Mitchell, a Democrat from Nashville, has been outspoken about his opposition to various bills currently under review in the Tennessee legislature that would expand access to firearms, hoping instead that lawmakers might respond to the recent mass shootings with measures such as expanded background checks and a ban on assault rifles. The state, he noted, has dealt with a series of mass shootings and soaring gun deaths among youths.
“If guns made us safer, Tennessee should be one of the safest states in the country,” he said. “Instead, we have one of the worst gun violence problems in America.”
Hundreds of people gathered in Public Square Park in downtown Nashville on Wednesday for a vigil honoring those killed during this week’s shooting, cupping their hands around flickering white candles or shielding their eyes from the bright sun.
They embraced one another and wiped away tears, some singing along as musician Ketch Secor performed “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?”
The seven children of Mike Hill, a beloved custodian killed in the shooting, joined first lady Jill Biden, Mayor John Cooper, local leaders and law enforcement officials.
On the steps of the courthouse and at City Hall, they left flowers.

@essayofthoughts asked for:
"Perc'ahlia babe and also Vaxleth and Pikelan"
Mwahahaha...
Perc'ahlia:
Who’s the messiest one: I mean it depends. Cuz Percy has a place for every little thing. But when he's mid project it tends to turn into organized chaos. Vex may occasionally leave things lying around if she's tired or distracted.
Who feels the most uncomfortable about PDA: definitely Percy, but it's less uncomfortable and more "easily flustered." Like it's just something he's accepted. Vex gunna smooch. Percy gunna blush.
Who’s the funniest drunk: Percy. Cuz he has the same attitude, but he's struggling to take off his socks for bed like "what a- a- idiotic invenshuhh..... Fucking.... Stuplid..... Imma make em better... Make... Sock....better...." While Vex is equally drunk but still doing her four step skincare routine like "yes dear"
Who texts the most: probably Vex. Anything between conversational back and forth, long rambling but deep trains of thought and "LOOK AT THIS DOG I MET"
Who has the most embarrassing taste in music: hmm probably Percy but only in like a "parody of himself" kinda way. Nothing but a mix of chamber orchestra and emo music. Which aren't all that bad on their own, but he is a hashtag Byronic Posh Boi and so of COURSE that's all he listens to. Vex has cool(tm) tastes in music. Even if a song or artist wasn't cool (tm) before, it becomes cool(tm) once she likes it.
Who reads the most: I mean Percy. Not that Vex doesn't read, but he big nerd.
Who’s better with kids: ooo boy that's A QUESTION for some canonical parents, huh? I'm going to say Percy, just because I feel like Vex is a parent who can get overwhelmed sometimes and not know how to handle needy kids when she's running on empty (feel like I should say this does not make a person a bad parent- just that as a kid it's hard to understand that adults get tired). Meanwhile Percy has a natural tone that suggests what he's saying is fact, so if he's too tired for high energy toddlers he's just like "sitting by the fire drinking tea is a very fun game" and the bbs just climb into his lap like "you're right being quiet and snuggly is very fun" while Vex watches like "HOW."
Who’s the one that fixes things around the house: Percy's a good good tinker boi
Who’s got the weirdest hobby: listen one of them invented firearms and the other has a pet bear it's a toss up.
Who cooks and who cleans up: Both are what you might call... Functional cooks. Nothing to write home about, but they get the job done. But Percy excels more at baking (structured, exacting) and Vex is better at more loosely defined things like soups and sauces. Cleaning up is a duo activity and a nice part of their evening wind down.
Vaxleth:
Who’s the messiest one: deffo Keyleth. Houston we have a hoarder. She gets emotionally attached to everything, and saves up little bits and bobs of things for crafting and home diy projects all the time.
Who feels the most uncomfortable about PDA: probably Keyleth, but it's in like- the most Social Anxiety way possible. It's not so much that she's uncomfortable, it's that she gets worried that being snuggly or kissing will make others uncomfortable.
Who’s the funniest drunk: oh that's a hard one. Cuz we've seen them both be high quality drunks, (ie day drinking queen and "heterosexuality is fake and magic is just the fucking best????????"). I'd say Vax because I feel like he's more likely to insist he's not that drunk and doesn't need anyone to look after him, and therefore will get into more shananigans/flirt more
Who texts the most: another toughie. Probably Vax, in a similar style to Vex.
Who has the most embarrassing taste in music: they both have the same issue as Percy, in that their tastes are just a parody of themselves. Vax has three categories of favorite music: sad emo boy, sexy alt boy, and rebellious 90s girl. And then Keyleth is just unironically into the softest cheesiest music you've ever heard on the soundtrack to a chick flick. We're talking Jewel here, folks. Also retro oldies cuz Homeschooled Vibes. I'm going to say Vax tho, cuz he's the one who gets emotional about it, while Keyleth is just a casual listener. And he listens to more of her music than she does his. She'll send him the Live at the Troubadour recording of Kelly Clarkson's Sober and he responds back like "??? Why would you send me this??? At 10am on a Tuesday??? When I have things to do??? Now I'm crying on the bus?????" And she's just "glad you liked it! :D"
Who reads the most: probably Vax. He gets deep into reading in attempts to find less self destructive ways of getting out of his head.
Who’s better with kids: hm I'm gunna say Vax on this one because Keyleth has a tendency to try too hard with everyone and was also an only child who was forced into very structured time while growing up cuz expectations. Vax has more clear memories of actually just being a kid when the twins were with their mom, so he can relate easier. That being said they're both pretty good, as we see with that kid Simon, a scene that will HAUNT ME FOREVER.
Who’s the one that fixes things around the house: def keyleth. DIY queen. Vax just gets frustrated and is like "let's just buy a new one"
Who’s got the weirdest hobby: hmmm. Keyleth has A LOT of hobbies, but Vax def will do parkour, just cuz. Like he may have started back when he was still kind of a criminal, but now he doesn't have a practical excuse and he doesn't even like- record it or anything so there's no point to it. He just sees urban environments and goes "gotta jump. Gotta climb. Just gotta."
Who cooks and who cleans up: Keyleth has got prep on lock. Gardening. Hunting and trapping. Gathering. Cleaning and dressing and chopping. She's got this. It's adding fire to things where she starts having trouble. Vax picks things up from there just fine though, and covers dishes and such on the back end.
Pikelan:
Who’s the messiest one: Pike. Pike. Pike. Having a perma-home at last means she gets comfy, which means you can usually not see the bedroom floor. Scanlan is scandalized.
Who’s the one that fixes things around the house: Scanlan tries. He likes the idea of being helpful with domestic stuff and not just a goofus who's just around for the fun parts of being together. Unfortunately he's never really lived anywhere long enough to get good at household repair, and it takes him way too long to do anything. Pike is pretty handy, but gets so busy that she'll just put up with something being broken for weeks. Best case scenario is Pike shows Scanlan how to do something so the next time he can do it himself and feel accomplished and she can come home to things being fixed and give him smooches and coo over him being a handyman.
Who's the funniest drunk? Pike. "I'M TRYING TO STEALTH."
Who feels the most uncomfortable about PDA: it may shock people, but Scanlan has the same "once it's serious I get bashful" disease as Vax. Pike will absolutely give his bootie a tap in line at the grocery store and he just goes bright red. He tries to laugh it off like he's still the smarmy mess everyone knows, but she teases him endlessly about it.
Who texts the most: Scanlan is an absolute "good morning," "thinking of you," "how was your day," and "goodnight" text person before they live together. After they move in together it's just text versions of his cover songs about his love for her and dank memes.
Who has the most embarrassing taste in music: we know it's Scanlan. We've heard his cover tracks. Pike has similar cool(tm) tastes as Vex.
Who reads the most: Pike is probably someone who's always on the move, so she's more an audiobook person. But Scanlan is like fully ready for the dad life. Just loving any weekend where he does nothing but sit around in flannel pj pants reading a mystery paperback.
Who’s better with kids: It's a hard one. Scanlan second guesses himself quite a bit and worries every little thing he says or does is going to become Lasting Trauma. Pike acts more chill about it, but slowly gets more and more overwhelmed until she nearly has a nervous collapse. But their opposite styles work well together and they're able to be a pretty great team.
Who’s got the weirdest hobby: I feel like Pike is someone with a weird collection. It is either something a little spooky but cool and academic, like antique medical equipment, or something horrifyingly tacky, like a thong from every city she visits. Maybe both.
Who cooks and who cleans up: this is where Scanlan is a much quicker learner about domestic stuff. Pike is a good cook, but it's usually on the move so much she doesn't have the time for meal planning and prep. Scanlan absolutely throws himself into being a house husband and gets obsessed with cooking shows. Pike insists on helping with dishes tho.

Texas: Syrian-born Muslim attacks Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi, shoots security officer before being shot dead
Update May 25: FBI agents and others are investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. The FBI is still searching for a second person of interest.
Last Thursday, just after six in the morning when investigators say Al-Shali drove up to the north gate, pulled out a handgun and opened fire at a Navy Guard.
Fortunately, that guard was wearing a bullet resistant vest and it wound up saving her life. She was able to activate the security barriers preventing the shooter from getting onto the base. Then she and other security guards opened fire, killing Al-Shali.
FBI agents and others are now investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism after finding social media posts from Al-Shali expressing support for extremist groups like Al-Qaida.
The FBI is still searching for a second person of interest who may have more information on a motive for last week's shooting. Operations at NASCC returned to normal by Friday afternoon.
If you have any information, you're asked to call the FBI at 1-800-225-53-24.
(Par for the course, the FBI has not released any details about the second susect so how would anyone know who he is or what to look for?)
The man killed in this morning's shooting at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi has been identified.
NBC News reports that the suspect's name is Adam Salim Alsahli.
FBI Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Leah Greeves said the incident was "terrorism-related" and the alleged shooter is dead.
Greeves added that authorities believe a second potential suspect remains.
"We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community," she said.
In a tweet thread Thursday evening, the FBI said it is "not ruling out any possible motives," and is looking into all leads.
The FBI would like to recognize the bravery and heroism of the NAS personnel who took quick action to prevent the shooter from entering the base and engaged the shooter, potentially saving many innocent lives. (1 of 3) #CorpusNASShooting
— FBI Houston (@FBIHouston) May 22, 2020
The FBI said Thursday’s active-shooter event happened at about 6:15 a.m. when Alsahli allegedly tried to drive onto the base at the north gate on Ocean Drive, and when a female security officer approached him he shot her in the chest with a handgun.
She was wearing body armor and only had minor injuries.
She was able to get the security barriers up at the gate, and when the suspect got out of his vehicle with a rifle military police shot and killed him.
An eyewitness said the suspect's body was left on the ground until it could be inspected with a bomb disposal robot.
Since the NAS-CC is federal property the FBI is leading the investigation, and is being assisted by the base, NCIS, CCPD, the Department of Homeland Security and the ATF.

More on the dead jihadi via journalist @MrAndyNgo
The shooter has been identified as Adam Salim Alsahli. His Arabic-language social media posts show someone who was single mindedly focused on Islam. Every tweet or post was religious. He was a big fan of several Twitter-verified fundamentalist Muslim clerics.
...The attacker reportedly is a devout Muslim who made numerous social media posts about Islam, jihad & martyrdom.
Video of the attack by @Natsecjeff here, who also tweeted:
FBI says another suspect who might have been involved with Adam Salim Alsahli - who expressed support for al-Qaeda (AQAP) and Taliban - is still at large.
youtube
And this:
SOCMINT investigation reveals there's a LinkedIn profile by the name of Adam Alsahli with the location of Corpus Christi, Texas which has tagged Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura University as an educational institution for the class of 2017-2022.
More via terrorism-researcher @Rita_Katz
The attacker, Adam Alsahli seems to have strong connection to Syria (possibly lived in Damascus). Also demonstrates similar ideology as Pensacola shooter Shamrani (not to mention selecting same target type), though there is no direct evidence that the two events are related.
#CorpusChristi shooter had an extensive network of social media accounts on FB, Twitter, IG, Whatsapp, TG, Snapchat--often holding multiple on the same platform. They were largely filled with support for hardliner clerics, mostly from Saudi Arabia.
More via Jihadist Shooter At Corpus Christi Naval Base Studied At Saudi Arabian ‘College Of Sharia’
The shooting took place just three days after the FBI and AG Barr announced it found an al Qaeda link to the Pensacola Naval Base shooting that took place in Florida in December 2019, where a Saudi Arabian student opened fire, killing three sailors and wounding several others in the name of Islamic jihad.
The suspect, Mohammed Alshamrani, who was also killed at the scene, was a Saudi Arabian national who was undergoing flight training at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. FBI officials say he spent years plotting his attack for Al Qaeda while living in the United States, where he was also attending school.
Authorities say they are actively searching for a co-suspect in Thursday’s terrorist attack.
...
The suspect, Salim Alsahli is a practicing Muslim man whose educational records trace back to Umm Al- Qura University, which is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Translated into English, the school attended by the jihadist who opened fire at the Texas naval base is “College of Sharia”, a large public Islamic university.
Sharia is Islamic Law.
Yes, days after Barr praised the Saudi’s.
-------------------------------------------
Not the first time Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi was attacked, via Gunman's thwarted attempt to storm Corpus Christi naval base was terror-related say FBI, as they now hunt for a SECOND suspect
The station had a nearly identical incident in February 2019 when a man drove a stolen vehicle through a checkpoint at the naval air station before crashing it along Ocean Drive. That suspect was also fatally shot.
In another incident at the base in 2019, a man pleaded guilty to destruction of US government property and possession of a stolen firearm for ramming his truck into a barricade at the Corpus Christi station.
The jihadis Twitter account is still active as of this posting:
https://twitter.com/AdamAlsahli
Update 1: The twitter account was shut down shortly after this posting.
Update 2: The jihadi was born in Syria but his father - a Syrian immigrant to the U.S. - has citizenship so he is basically the chain migrant of a foreign-born anchor dad..
Update 3: Hours after we posted this on Twitter:
@creepingsharia
The FBI is reportedly still searching for a 2nd person of interest in the jihad attack on Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi - apparenlty not news worthy
The FBI posted this:
UPDATE: The shooting that occurred last Thursday at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi remains an active investigation. While there was initial concern about a potential second person of interest, intense investigation leads us now to believe there was not.
Who’s watching who?

Full Name: Raylan Givens Nicknames: Ray, Shooter, The Cowboy, Wyatt Earp Birthdate: May 20th, 1970 (Taurus) Birthplace: Harlan County, Kentucky
Ethnicity: Caucasian Species: Human Gender: Male Height: 6′1″ Eye Color: Hazel Hair: Brown/gray Marital Status: Divorced Family: Arlo Givens (father), Francine Givens (nee Grant) (mother), Helen Givens (nee Grant) (aunt/stepmother), Mary Grant (aunt), Willa Givens (daughter), Winona Hawkins (ex-wife), Heinz Givens (cousin) Face Claim: Timothy Olyphant
Profession: Deputy US Marshal Education: Graduated from high school, attended University of Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Law, History, and Society with a minor in Sociology, moved to Georgia to attend Glynco Languages: English, some Spanish Skills: Quickdraw and quickshot from training at Glynco, hand to hand combat, investigative training
History: To this day, Raylan can’t figure out what his mother saw in his father. Arlo came back from the Vietnam War, left the Army, and started finding the quickest way to make a buck that didn’t involve him working down in the mines of Kentucky. Francine had her own demons and less than pristine history according to Arlo, she and her sister leaving their home up in the hills to come down among society. Whatever the story is, something drew Arlo and Francine together and out of that relationship, they had one son. Raylan.
His childhood was a rocky road from the start and it shaped the way Raylan looked at the world, the path he wanted to take in life. He attempted to bury himself in books, reading an escape into fictional worlds and away from the tension in the household. Raylan compared it to tornado weather when the sky grew heavy, the impending storm weighing heavily and quietly on the surroundings. When the storm broke and Arlo turned angry and violent, Raylan escaped to his aunt Helen’s house, watching old Westerns on her TV and playing board games.
His mother passed away when he was young and Helen stepped in to help raise Raylan, not trusting Arlo to do the job himself. Raylan worked hard in school, played baseball, stuck close to his friend Boyd Crowder, also from a troubled family. Unfortunately he couldn’t escape the Givens feud with the Bennett family, a tense play during a baseball game coming to a head when Dickie Bennett came after him and Raylan defended himself by smashing his leg with the bat he held.
After high school, Raylan spent a year working down in the mines to help out his family. Once again he was back to back with Boyd until the day the mine almost collapsed with them in it. If it hadn’t been for Boyd leading them out, they would have been crushed and that would have been the end of the story. Instead, the fear of what could have happened led his aunt Helen to dig up her savings and give Raylan the explicit instructions to get the hell out of Kentucky, go to college, and never look back.
Helen saved his life that day, that much Raylan knows and will freely admit. She saved him from the outlaw life restlessness in the mines, no aim in life otherwise might’ve led him to. To become just like his father only worse - Raylan worked hard and outlaw life would’ve been no different. Instead wanting to become a better man than his father led to Raylan graduating college and applying to Glynco, becoming a marshal with the United States Marshal Service.
It was a job he excelled at, especially once he started working fugitive recovery. Over the next several years he ended up on a few different cities, from Houston to Salt Lake City, where he met his future wife Winona, a court reporter, back to Georgia where they married and he taught firearms at Glynco with Art Mullins, his future chief, for a while. Issues started to arise in the marriage and when Raylan was reassigned to Miami, Winona didn’t come with. She instead returned to Kentucky to live with her mother and the two divorced. Raylan’s return to Kentucky was not a welcome assignment. In hot water after shooting the hitman of the local cartel, it was decided he needed to be sent away from Miami and only one office would take him - Lexington, run by Art Mullins who already knew Raylan. His choices were made clear - go to Lexington or turn in his badge. Raylan chose Lexington and Kentucky.

“I Wish to the Devil the Country was Prepared”
In early January 1932, Robert E. Howard in a letter to H. P. Lovecraft had this to say:
“I love peace, yet I wouldnt [sic] mind a war right now such a hell of a lot, if the country was prepared; but it isnt [sic]. Japan knows it; that’s why she thinks she can kick the flag around, beat up American officials, and get away with it. I wish to the devil the country was prepared.”
This comment was in relation to Japan’s recent seizure of Manchuria in late 1931. Historians often view this as the first shot that would lead to World War 2.
I recently read Cry Havoc: The Arms Race and the Second World War 1931-1941 by Joe Maiolo. It fits in with After the Trenches by William O. Odom, Linn’s Guardians of Empire, and Geoffrey Perrett’s There’s a War to be Won.
Maiolo makes the case that Stalin’s First Five Year Plan set off the 1930s arms race that led to WW2. The Japanese made a gamble to grab Manchuria before the Red Army was modernized and too powerful.
Robert E. Howard was correct. The U.S was not in a good condition to fight a war. But then again, that is the condition it generally goes into war. In 1932, the U.S. Army had 133, 200 men. The National Defense Act of 1920 called for 17,000 officers and 280,000 enlisted men. The National Guard was to be at 435,000 men.
The U.S Army had received no new equipment after WW1. In the 1930s, it was still using the British Mark VIII “Liberty” tank and had 950 French Renault FT-17 made under license. The Renault FT-17 was used up through the 1930s so in terms of quality, not at a disadvantage.
Renault FT-17 Tank
There were designs on the books for new artillery such as the 105 mm howitzer but in 1932, the Army was still using 75 mm and 155 mm cannons of WW1 vintage. Mortars were 3 inch trench mortars with often faulty ammunition due improper storage.
What the U.S. Army had plenty of were around 2 million M1917 Enfield rifles in Cosmoline. During WW1, Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone could produce Enfields in far greater numbers than Springfield Armory with the Springfield ’03 rifle. Corporal (later Sergeant) Alvin York used the M1917 Enfield on that October day in 1918 where he picked off one German after another. Most U.S. Army units in WW1 carried Enfields.
The Enfield was accurate but long (46.25 inches). It does have that short and smooth action the Enfield series of rifles is known for. Some had been sold to the civilian market, but the supply seemed inexhaustible. They were used in basic training during WW2. In the late 1930s, the Army sold around 40,000 a year to the Philippine Commonwealth for the army that Gen. Douglas MacArthur was supposed to create. Enfields were also sold to the Free French, Nationalist Chinese, Irish Free State, and the Royal Netherlands Indies Army. I have seen pictures of stacks of Enfields handed out to Philippine guerrillas in WW2. Some were sent to Britain after Dunkirk. Rear echelon troops such as Signal Corps in the Pacific had Enfields late in WW2. All the M-1 carbines were being sent to Europe. The M1917 is still in use by the Sirius Dog Sled Patrol in Greenland. The Patrol is an elite unit of the Danish Navy. The M1917 works in extreme cold conditions.
M1917 Enfield
The official rifle of the U.S. Army in 1932 was the Springfield ’03. The Army had somewhere around 800,000 of those left over from WW1. It is an accurate rifle owing its action to the Mauser.
The U.S. Army had 102,174 Browning Automatic Rifles from WW1. Ever talk to WW2 vets, they liked the BAR. It was heavy, weighing around 19 lbs. It was originally designed for suppressing fire crossing no-man’s land. Bonnie and Clyde used BARs and did Frank Hamer who took out Bonnie and Clyde. Foreign especially British writers hate the BAR calling it a poor light machine gun. It was used sort of as an LMG but gave a rifle squad a little more fire power. The Marines had two BARS per rifles squad in WW2.
Browning Automatic Rifle
The M1919 Browning machine gun began service right after WW1 and used up through Vietnam. John Moses Browning was a firearms genius.
Browning M1919 Machine Gun
The Thompson submachine gun was not adopted until 1938 by the U.S. Army but in use by the Navy and Marines. So, overall, the U.S. was in similar condition to all other great powers following WW1 with small arms.
The biggest problem is the U.S. Army had no large-scale training exercises during most of the 1930s due to lack of funding. Gen. Douglas MacArthur fought tooth and nail to keep the Army from being further by Roosevelt but money was not present for training.
A bright spot is the Army Air Corps. The Air Corps took 20% of expenditures in 1933. The U.S. at least kept up with new designs of aircraft and some purchases. The Curtis P6-E Hawk would have been the standard “pursuit” plane in those last years of bi-wing airplanes.
Out of 133,200 men, 25% of the U.S. Army was overseas. The old thinking of garrisons strewn across colonial empires ready to deal with any local emergencies. U. S. Army strength overseas:
Philippines: 11,744 (5207 Army, 6537 Philippine Scouts). Three infantry regiments, four coast artillery, one cavalry regiments, two field artillery regiments.
Hawaii: 14,223. The Hawaiian Division (“The Pineapple Army”) and coast artillery.
Alaska: two understrength companies at Juneau.
Panama: 2 infantry regiments, 2 coast artillery regiments, 1 battalion field artillery
Tientsin, China: 15th Infantry Regiment at 2 battalions
Puerto Rico: 65th Infantry Regiment.
Another 20% of the U.S. Army was on the Mexican border. The 2nd Infantry Division was kept at full strength at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. The 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas at 9,595 men; the 24th Infantry Regiment, one of the Army’s two black infantry regiments was at Ft. Huachuca in Arizona on the border.
The Washington Treaty of 1922 restricted the U.S. Navy. The Navy had 11 battleships, 3 fleet carriers, 19 cruisers, 102 destroyers, 55 submarines for two oceans. The Navy had 93,384 personnel.
The U.S. Marines stood at 16,561. The Marines were scattered from Shanghai in China to Cuba in small detachments. The 4th Marine Regiment had been in Shanghai with two battalions. The North China Marines fluctuated between 200-300 men at this time.
North China Marines
REH to HPL, 1932: “Along the Border there is a definite undercurrent of expectation, or at least apprehension, of Mexican invasion in case of war. There has been a persistent rumor, every [sic] since the last war, of the mysterious presence and vaguely sinister activities of a hundred thousand Japanese in the interior of Mexico.”
The Mexican Revolution from 1910-1920 gets most historical press. Mexico continued to have turmoil through the 1920s and 30s. Some were regional military commander led revolts against downsizing. The Yaqui Indians in northern Mexico fought the Mexican government 1926-27. There was the Cristero Rebellion 1927-29 and Cedillo Rebellion 1938-39.
Closer to home for Robert E. Howard was the San Diego Plan of 1915. Named after the small town of San Diego in southern Texas, the manifesto stated:
“On the 20th day of February, 1915, at two o’clock in the morning, we will arise in arms against the Government and Country of the United States of North America, ONE AS ALL AND AS ONE, proclaiming the liberty of individuals of the black race and its independence of Yankee tyranny which has held us in iniquitous slavery since remote times.”
In the summer of 1915, Mexican rebels and bandits (Sedicionistas) launched 30 raids against targets carried from across the Rio Grande River. The Seditionistas killed almost two-dozen U.S. citizens including kidnapping, torturing, and decapitating a U.S. soldier displaying his head on a pole in the border. The Anglo-Texan response was with extreme prejudice including extra-judicial executions in retaliation. Robert E. Howard would have been nine years old during these events.
The 2nd Infantry Division and 1st Cavalry were kept at full strength through the 1920s and 30s ready to deal with Mexico.
Could war have happened in 1932? The U.S. was so weak militarily that Japan contemptuously went about its aggression with little fear. The U.S. simply could not intimidate Japan. There was a chance of a clash with the North China Marines at Peking and the 15th Infantry Regiment at Tientsin sparking a wider war. The Japanese could have taken out scattered, isolated U.S. detachments in China, Philippines, and even Hawaii.
The plan was for the U.S. Navy to rush to relieve the Philippines in War Plan Orange while the Philippine garrison retreated to the Bataan peninsula and Corregidor island. It was thought it would take the Japanese six months just to cut through the jungle to get to American lines.
A daring attack by the Japanese on Panama could have put the canal out of use. Opportunistic politicians or generals in Mexico under Japanese encouragement could have attacked along the U.S.–Mexico border in the hope of regaining the South West. The Japanese could have trainers and advisors with the Mexican Army. They even could have a regiment of infantry to stiffen up their allies.
The U.S. could find itself with almost 25% of its army gone and another 20% desperately holding the border with no new tanks, no new artillery. It would take around eight months before you get the skeletal army and National Guard divisions filled out and trained. The Army at least had lots of rifles in storage. There were over 2 million WW1 veterans. A fair number would have been still young enough and in acceptable physical shape to provide a trained reserve to draw upon.
American industry would be able to supply plenty of trucks and other vehicles but things like tanks and cannons would take time.
Curtis P-6 Hawk
The Army Air Corps first monoplane P-26 fighter was a year away from first deliveries and the B-10 bomber two years. The Curtis P-6 Hawk, the last biplane used by the Army Air Corp would have been the plane used along the Mexican border and patrolling the West Coast.
Perhaps some sort of new tank would have been produced. An imaginary tank linking the WW1 leftovers and the M-2 tank of the late 1930s could have been produced.
The Japanese Navy could sail at will along the California coast shelling Los Angeles and San Francisco. There would not be much the U.S. could do about it for a while. In the long run, the U.S. would pummel Mexico into submission. A young Robert E. Howard joins up in the Texas National Guard (36th Infantry Division) or the Army to give the Mexicans and Japanese hell.
If there were an opportune time for the Japanese to attack, it would have been around 1936-1937. The U.S. Army would have another four years of deteriorating equipment and financial starvation. Franklin Roosevelt had taken officers out of active duty for one of his New Deal programs. They ran Civilian Conservation Corps camps. The U.S. was lucky in that a generation of young men were in a quasi-military environment providing pre-basic training. Roosevelt admired Mussolini and Stalin’s central controlled economies and emulated them. Hitler had very similar camps for German youth at the same time.
The U.S. was lucky in that when war came, a new generation of planes, tanks, rifles, vehicles were coming off the assembly lines. The Japanese and Italians were off by 10 years. Both had up modern armies for the early 1930s. Involvement in wars during the 30s delayed modernization giving the Allies the upper hand.
A war in 1932 would have looked a lot like something at the end of WW1 with bolt action rifles, bi-planes, primitive tanks. The 1st Cavalry Division would have been on horseback on the border with some old armored cars confined to the probably few functioning roads in northern Mexico. The Marines might have made a landing at Veracruz with a thrust to Mexico City to put an end of that part of the war. The expanding army would have made its mistakes and growing pains in Mexico. The .30-06 cartridge used in the ’03 Springfield, M1917 Enfield, and Browning Automatic Rifle was perfect for fighting in the open territory of the border. If Mexico did not join with Japan, there would have been a period of just some naval clashes for up to two years. The Japanese might have invaded Alaska making for a scenario of warfare in polar conditions.
The fleet would begin the hard fight across the Pacific as laid out in various versions of War Plan Orange would get underway ending with a blockade of Japan. By the 1930s, Navy admirals had a realistic view of a Pacific War with an island-hopping campaign through the Japanese Mandate islands including the Marshall and Caroline Islands. The Army said it could hold out in the Philippines for 6 months, the Navy estimated a two-year campaign across the Pacific to get the Philippines. So, the Army commander of the Philippine Department would be surrendering before help arrived. It was a command that few relished.
The U.S. could have trained Chinese troops to tie down the Japanese Army. Who knows, the Soviets might have joined in taking Manchuria from Japan once the war turned.
A war in 1932 with Japan and Mexico is an interesting topic. Gen. Douglas MacArthur was Chief of Staff of the U.S Army so there would be drama to the conflict. Who knows, maybe Grandpa Theobald would have volunteered as an ambulance driver like he tried to do in WW1.
