yandere celica
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: celica x gn!reader
tags: established relationship, implied possesed/fallen celica
Tumblr media
celica is barely recognizable as a yandere, almost as if possessed by something sinister that amplifies her base emotions to an insane level
she's a kind and caring girl, yet as a yandere, her caring side becomes almost obsessive, as she wants to keep you away from any possible harm
celica doesn't want you to fight, nor does she want you to do anything that could otherwise hurt you
she even keeps you away from other people, so that she can make sure they can't hurt you either
of course, she also doesn't want you falling in love with anyone else, so keeping you away from others helps with that too!

#10 for Faye Echoes and Celica Echoes!
10) What are your headcanons for these characters? (From this ask game a while back)
the first onc is that they're in love with each other
Faye
Of the Ram Gang, she's best friends with Kliff - mostly because they're both the right amount of antisocial to give each other the space they need.
She had a bad first impression of Clair. Sure, jealousy was part of it, but she also felt Clair was looking down on her with her... unique questions. Eventually they got on better terms and became friends over their mutual hatred of Slayde of all things.
When Silque mentioned she not only ate but enjoyed eating raw flour, Faye was horrified and dragged her off to bake together. May or may not have just been an excuse to hang out. (and of course she made excuses for Alm when they mentioned he ate flour too)
In general, Faye is like a cat. She doesn't like strangers (especially knights, thanks Slayde), she's very reluctant to make new friends and would rather stay in her comfort zone, but if you manage to earn her trust and affection she will show you her love however she can. Also she's super clingy and loves physical affection.
Ironically, her relationship with Alm actually got better after he rejected her. (...after a long period of misery ofc) They got to be proper friends after she stopped putting him on a pedestal, coupled with some unexpected teasing from Faye, and they're on better terms with each other now that she stopped seeing . They're a duo that would be miserable romantically, but get along great once romantic love is completely out of the question. Helps that Alm can read Faye very well, often better than she can herself, so he's a great support for her. ...Especially for romantic advice, since Faye got self-concious over how obsessive and overbearing she was with Alm and does not want to repeat it.
Faye adores Celica, and always has from the very beginning. She was who she considered her best friend when they were kids, Faye was the one who taught Celica how to make flower crowns. And, next to Alm, she was the one who was most devastated when she left Ram. Through the following years she wanted to see Celica again, but unlike Alm she never thought she actually would. Or that Celica would remember her, anyway. That would break her heart even more. Yeah and also Faye definitely crushed on her since she was a kid but never realized it because she's an oblivious bisaster of a woman
Celica
You mentioned on one of your headcanons that Celica used to be afraid of fire due to... well... but had to face it to learn black magic, and I had a similar one! The difference in mine is that I think Celica forcing herself to wield fire wasn't just to learn black magic, but deliberately did so to conquer her fear. She doesn't just use the Fire spell after all, she can also use Ragnarok and Ragnarok Omega, not to mention conjure fire to make light as if it were nothing! She didn't just learn to wield fire, she mastered it. What used to be a source of fear for her became a symbol of her strength.
She remembers everything from her brief time as a Witch. Mainly how she felt a giant hole in her heart, slowly started to forget who she was, had no control over her own body and felt a desperate longing for a purpose. She vowed to never forget what she felt, and after she becomes Queen she starts secretly helping Sonya in her rehabilitation of Witches. If there's no way to restore them to their original selves, at least to help them get better so they can have a new life of their own.
She chose to crown herself as Queen Celica, not Anthiese. That old name brought her nothing but pain, while Celica was the beginning of her new life. All of her friends call her Celica, even after her identity as a princess becomes public, while most of those who call her Anthiese are either formally related to her position as a royal or assholes. (like come on do you think Jedah would be above deadnaming?) The only exception is Conrad, the only good memory left from her life as Anthiese, but eventually she asks his brother to call her Celica at first. Conrad doesn't immediately get it right, but he forces himself to refer to her as Celica until it becomes natural to him.
If she was a common person and wasn't burdened by her responsibilities as a princess, she'd be the silliest woman ever.
Also, more of a joke one considering how many women seem to adore Celica, but she's a living wlw detector. Everyone who sees her thinks "fuck, I think I'm in love."

very un-fire emblem, but since ao3 is down here's some L death note headcanons I was debating posting, hopefully they will benefit the masses in this time of hardship
L and how he thinks about romance:
(tw for slight sexual references and short icky behavior from an unnamed non-canon character but no non con, could be dub con)
- he had a couple puppy loves when he was a kid that he fell way too deep into and had break his heart. he just had trouble understanding the natural flow of relationships, and his standing with others who expected him to keep up with them, so he kept getting left behind
- he's obviously bisexual
- and i think he had a brief thing with another boy when he was an early teen and living at the orphanage
- probably the kind of thing where he felt like he had found his soul mate, and they spent lots of time together trying to make up for how starved for love their lives had been at Whammy's, and then eventually the other boy started to become disgusted with the system, and with L because he was so integral to it the older he got, and neither of them understood any of that, and the other boy broke up with him very unkindly and vanished all in the span of about a week
- L is a little wiser to what was going on behind the scenes now, but even if he had the full explanation, the pain was just so acute, and echoed his recurring experience with abandonment so that thinking about it just solidifies a belief that he's unlovable
- i think when he got into his later teens at the orphanage and started to have a bit of freedom to wander around unsupervised, he also had a brief relationship with an American girl who was on vacation in the area
- and by brief i mean the literal one week that she was in Britain
- she was a bit older than him, almost enough to be icky and certainly old enough to know better than to play with an obviously vulnerable young boy
- she was bored and on vacation so she decided to use him, and again he was totally smitten, poor thing was still just so desperate for companionship that he didn't question a good thing
- he is a genius, but his emotional intelligence just developed slowly cause of trauma:/
- she manipulated him into being physical with her the day before she went home in an alley near the orphanage. they didn't have penetrative sex but they got pretty well acquainted
- she left him immediately after and didn't come back to say goodbye.
- that experience was where his trust allowance ran out, and a few years later after he and Watari began moving around the world, the time and the physical separation from where he grew up helped him understand not to blame himself
- it's actually really lucky that he became a career law enforcer, because it gave him the needed exposure to how much other people straight up suck, and saved him from a lifetime of self-hatred
- his theme is really being self sustainable
- he doesn't have any qualms about his personal worth
- but he also doesn't think he's good enough for other people, so he's learned to live totally without them
- Watari is the exception, because L knows that their relationship is based on Watari needing him for his talent, and he can know quantifiably that he's good enough for that
- i think romance is something he craves even if the lack of it doesn't torture him, but he is truly and literally waiting for the stars to align in the person he chooses; it's something he will never take a risk on again (cough why I'm anti-Lawlight although no disrespect to the ship or it's shippers at all it's just not for me!)
- attraction is easy! he just doesn't trust it a bit.
- his end-game would have to be someone who's known him and Watari for quite a while, who Watari likes, and who has stayed around long enough that their only possible motivation for wanting him can be- well, wanting him
- but once he's found the right one, and he's safe with them, I think he'd be eager to participate in surprisingly traditional romantic gestures, and a good communicator.
- he's awkward as we know, but when comfortable with the person he loves, i think that awkwardness turns into endearing, just non-current mannerisms. like, he's a big kiss his partner's hand kinda guy, which isn't that weird or outdated really but he does it with the intent and reverence with which a knight kisses the hand of a court lady, and he does it because he's gathered his most complete pictures of romance from books and from old movies that i'm sure Watari has made him watch
- 10/10, perfect baby angel of a man, the geneva war crimes are a part of him and I'VE decided they're funny

Finally got around to do a little character inspiration I've seen time to time for MTaS!Nerida; in order (from left-down to right-down):
Celica (Fire Emblem Echoes)
Like Celica, Nerida is kind and gentle but at the same time held their emotions back for various reasons; they both even had lost their mother (Celica) and father (Nerida) at a young age with little or no memories of them. Also I headcanoned Nerida's voice claim to be Celica's VA, Erica Lindbeck, but shhh
Yuna (Final Fantasy X)
Loyal, polite, and see the good in people, but while Nerida isn't devote to the teaching of Church of Light, like how Yuna is to Yevon, she took some of its teachings to heart and like Yuna Nerida's faith in the Church of Light would be shaken when certain events in the story happen. And at the end Nerida would find her spark once again similar to Yuna's new lease on life in X-2.
Annie / Protagonist (Story of Seasons)
Both Nerida and Annie moved to a new town thanks to the flyer that are in need of builders and farmers respectively.
Lydia Carlton (Hakushaku to Yousei / Earl and Fairy)
Probably the one with the most inspiration; Both would not hesitate to help those in need, independent, and suffer from self-esteem issues. Nerida and Lydia both have experienced heart-breaking scenarios where it made them afraid to fall in love, the former experienced rejection from her long-time crush and the latter was given a love letter by someone that did it on a dare.
And of course, the two would end up getting engaged / wedded to their male love interest with blond hair and different occupations.
Sakura (Tsubasa Chronicles)
Sakura and Nerida's smile has been compared to the sun and light respectively, although they also let their emotions bet the best of them despite their optimistic front. Nerida, like Sakura, would also garner strong attachments to the people of Sandrock- especially Ernest.
Hinata Hyuga (Naruto series)
Who doesn't like an underdog story? While Nerida isn't shy like Hinata, her injury stopped her from becoming a civil corps member thus having no faith in herself (like how Hinata's lack on confrontation stopped her from becoming an heiress). When both Nerida and Hinata joined Sandrock's Civil Corps and Team 8 respectively their whole view shifts and began to change for the better- gaining that fighting spark that was extinguished.

Hey mfs I’m making my character x reader blog finally!:pp
You may call me Spiral🌀
Here is my bsd masterlist
RULES AND REQUEST INFORMATION: PLEASE READ BEFORE REQUESTING
REQUESTS ARE CLOSED!
ALL SMUT REQUESTS WILL BE POSTED TO THIS SMUT BLOG FROM HERE ON OUT!
This was a Bungo stray dogs blog but I want to write from other fandoms like fire emblem, jujutsu Kaisen, baldur’s gate 3(once I learn more about it), the case study of vanitas, Arcane and Spiderverse (mainly for hobie brown and Jessica drew) cuz I definitely get the sudden urge to write for other fandoms :ppp
so just ask me if I write for a specific character from those series! If I don’t know the character well I will just research.
You can request anything within the rules but please request smut on this blog from now on!
The most characters you can request in a single request is currently 3,(maybe 4) I’ll only do headcanons and sometimes short scenarios if it’s two or more characters requested
I don’t write for OCs
You can request any character(s) but I’m best at writing the following:
Kunikida Doppo
Nakajima Atsushi
Fukuzawa Yukichi
Dazai Osamu
Yosano Akiko
Edogawa Ranpo
Akutagawa Ryūnosuke
Higuchi Ichiyō
Oguri Mushitarō
Izumi Kyouka
I can write reader x Kyouka, Kenji, or Q but it will always be platonic if the reader is older!! No exceptions!
Fire Emblem
I’ve played fe awakening, fe echoes shadows of Valentia, fe three houses and fe three hopes, So I know to write for most characters of those games.
Arcane
Most characters
Vanitas no carte/The case study of vanitas
Noe Archiviste
Vanitas
Dominique De Sade
Jeanne
Amelia Ruth
Dante
Jujutsu Kaisen
Most characters from jjk I don’t feel like typing them all out man😭
Rules for requesting:
These rules don’t necessarily apply to just bsd characters but they apply to all requests! And these rules apply to requests, not fics I make for myself!
If you don’t specify the gender than I’ll mostly go with GN! Or Fem, I also write for Male!Reader. That being said, I always automatically try to omit the gender of the reader
Specify if you want the relationship to be romantic or platonic example: “dazai pranking reader hcs (platonic)”
AND PLEASE! When requesting two or more characters specify if you want them together or separate! Example: “can I get kunikida and dazai dating hcs?(separate)” or (can I get kunikida x reader x dazai?”
When requesting please provide as much information as you can! Example: “Can I get a ranpo x fem!reader Where they go on a date to the amusement park?(romantic)” “can I get a kunikida comforting reader after a panic attack?(platonic)”
If you don’t specify any of this it’ll take me more time to think of a scenario, and I’ll end up going with my own ideas.
I will write: fluff, angst (I’ll try), crack, relationship hcs, gore(as in fight scenes and injuries, ik this isn’t exactly sfw but yk, I’ll just put a warning)general headcanons

With a Resounding "Yes", It's Time for Paranormasight VA Headcanons!
I'm going to be an oddball and switch between Japanese & English VAs when I find it relevant. Also my order's gonna be based on how strongly I think the headcanon works. I'll also try to provide examples for the angle I'm going for
let's a go
Tumblr media
Tetsuo Tsutsumi Japanese: Option 1 - Akio Otsuka (Executioner from Akudama Drive). Option 2 - Jouji Nakata (Osvald from Octopath Traveler 2) English: Option 1 - Jamieson Price (Malik Caesar from Tales of Graces F). Option 2 - Jason Douglas (Kishibe from Chainsaw Man)
Middle aged men characters are my specialty so really it depends on the delivery you want. Richard Epcar (Ace from 999) could also work for English as well as Bill Butts (Ciocolotta from Jojo part 5)
Tumblr media
Makoto Ashimiya/Fumichika Nejima Japanese: Kenjiro Tsuda (Ogata from Golden Kamuy...and also Kishibe from Chainsaw Man). Katsuyuki Konishi could also be a good example but I can't really think of an old man character. I guess Takehito Koyasu could also work? But like this is THE most TsudaKen looking motherfucker I've ever seen English: Joe J. Thomas (Nobunaga Hazama from Hunter x Hunter). His "So I did" line really cemented this casting choice tbh.
Tumblr media
Richter Kai Japanese: Shiniciro Miki (Kisuke Urahara from Bleach) English: For this, it depends again on the delivery you want. I originally wanted Doug Erholz (maybe not like Vega from Street Fighter), but upon closer inspection, Ray Chase (Uzui Tengen from Demon Slayer) might be a better pick.
Tumblr media
Harue Shigima English: Laura Post (Empress from A Hat in Time) Japanese: Kikuko Inoue (Rhea from Fire Emblem Three Houses)
It just works, it just works~
Tumblr media
Shogo Okiie English: Chris Hackney (Yuito from Scarlet Nexus) Japanese: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Noctis from Final Fantasy 15)
Standard older protagonist
Tumblr media
Jun Erio Japanese: Kaito Ishikawa (Noe from Case Study of Vanitas or Iida from My Hero Academia) English: Griffin Burns (Doppio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure). Zeno Robinson (Akira from Zom 100) would also work great!
An excitable character that I think can work great with the right delivery.
Tumblr media
Takumi Yumioka Japanese: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Yoshikage Kira from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) English: Ben Lepley (Gouto from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim)
I feel like a flat delivery that still has an air of intimidation would work best for him.
Tumblr media
Mayu Chozawa English: Option 1 - Tara Sands (Sonya from Fire Emblem Echoes); Option 2 - Cristina Vee (Velvet from Tales of Berseria). Amanda C. Miller (Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon) is also a good pick along with Heather Gonzalez (Cherche from Fire Emblem Heroes) Japanese: Miyuki Sawashiro (Kyoko Honda from Fruits Basket). Nana Mizuki could also work, though I sadly can't think of a role off the top of my head
Going for the woman who grew up a punk vibe
Tumblr media
Yutaro Namigaki Japanese: Jun Fukuyama (Draluc from Vampire Dies in No Time) English: It's tempting to put Xander Mobus for the total Joker Persona 5 duology but ehhhhh. It depends on the delivery again. Brian Beacock (Luthier from Fire Emblem Echoes) or Steve Staley (Hubert from Tales of Graces F) could also work tbh. Maybe Lucien Dodge (Waver Velvet from Fate/Zero)
Tumblr media
Ayame Touno English: Faye Mata (Amame from AI: The Somnium Files) Japanese: Rie Kugimiya (Rise from Persona 4)
The voices contrast each other, but I think each one compliments the kind of character Ayame is.
Tumblr media
Storyteller Japanese: Hochu Otsuka (Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy) English: TBD
Here's where I'm starting to think about 1 solid casting and kinda improvising for the second one. I think the Storyteller changes voices depending on the mask they wear, so for this old man mask, an old man they shall sound like.
Tumblr media
Michiyo Shiraishi English: Xanthe Huynh (Marianne from Fire Emblem Three Houses) Japanese: Aya Endo (Miyuki from Lucky Star)
Few lines for such a sweet gal
Tumblr media
Yakko Sakazaki English: Abby Trott (Older Annette from Fire Emblem Three Houses). For some reason I also pictured Cassandra Lee Morris (Tomi Kisaragi from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) Japanese: Marina Inoue (Female Protagonist from Persona 3 Portable)
Spunky young lady, ain't she?
Tumblr media
Mio Kurosuzu English: Amber Connor (Faye from Fire Emblem Echoes) Japanese: Rie Murakawa (Est from Fire Emblem Echoes)
Young but calm & sweet
Tumblr media
Yoko Fukunaga English: Cherami Leigh (Patty from Soul Eater) Japanese: Saori Hayami (Yor from Spy x Family)
Not related to casting but I think she and Ayame would be weird girl besties and I love that for them
Tumblr media
Hideiki Araishi English: Patrick Seitz (there's a specific role in mind that sounds similar to Mama from AI: The Somnium Files but naaah that doesn't sound right) Japanese: Tomokazu Sugita (sadly can't think of a role off the top of my head)
He's a bit of a snob so something a bit arrogant works best
Tumblr media
Kohei Jounichi Japanese: Here's where I think Katsuyki Konishi would fit best (Koito from Golden Kamuy comes to mind, oddly). Makoto Furukawa (why did I think Ronaldo from Vampire Dies in No Time??) could also work English: I think this will depend on the delivery. Do you want him more cowardly? I kinda see David Vincent tbh (Henri from Iruma-kun)
Tumblr media
Hajime Yoshimi English: He could be another potential Patrick Seitz role, but I want to avoid double casting as much as possible. Japanese: Subaru Kimura (Todo from Jujutsu Kaisen)
Tumblr media
Hitomi Okuda Japanese: Ai Farouz (Jolyne Kujo from JJBA) English: Option 1 - Laura Stahl (Alear from Fire Emblem Engage); Option 2 - Erica Mendez (can't think of a role off the top of my head)
Once again going for toughness, but from a younger angle
aaaand I think that's all the voiced characters! Some roles I had to think up of on the spot, so I might come back and revisit this, but I'm open for suggestions as well!

yandere alm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: alm x gn!reader
tags: mentions of reader liking someone else, arguments & people being mean to reader, overprotective!alm
Tumblr media
alm is a rather harmless yandere. or at least, that's what he appears like
alm loves you a lot, but if you happen to like someone else, then alm wouldn't mind letting that person have you. as long as you are happy, he's happy too
however, he gets quite dangerous if someone hurts you in any way. even if it's ‘just emotionally’
if you were to get rejected by the one you love, have a friend start an argument with you or anyone say something mean to you, alm is there to threaten them!
how dare they be mean to you? you deserve the world, not some cruel treatment by the people who are supposed to love you!
alm doesn't understand why not everyone loves you as insanely as he does. he truly doesn't, because to him, you're the greatest person to exist
he just needs to make sure everyone can see how great you are! and if things go well for him, maybe one day you'll realize how much he loves you and decide to give him a chance…

Alm, Gray, Tobin, Kliff, Faye. 🍫
🍫 A headcanon about food
Alm: We all joke about Alm eating flour, and yes, he did it once. But in general, he's the most eager to try new food, even the most... questionable.
Gray: Definitely ate some gross food to show off. Strong believer in the five second rule.
Tobin: The best at making up recipes on the fly to eat the leftovers. Back when he lived at Ram, he often helped cooking for all his siblings, and he always had to work his way around a tight budget.
Kliff: Didn't know how to cook before he started travelling. His mother never bothered to teach him. (that or she deliberately didn't teach him to keep him more dependent on her) Eventually he learns, but he just manages to make food good enough to get by. He *is* good at scouring for food though, especially plants.
Faye: The best cook of the group, and a pretty good baker too! When Silque let slip she loves eating flour, Faye gave her an horrified look and dragged her off to cook together. May or may not have been an excuse to spend time together. (And of course, when someone reminds her Alm ate floor too and found it tasty on top, she starts making excuses for him) Loves homemade cooking, won't eat more refined or luxurious cooking unless she absolutely has to. Secretly a picky eater.

Can I offer you some of my personal interpretation of Summer headcanons?
☀ Summer's name is Minami, but she treats it as a last name instead, to deter people from calling her that. (Family doesn't count)
🎶 Theres a running joke where she claims her middle name is “Caution/Cautious when in all actuality its June (Her mother thought it was cute)
☀ Her birthday is August 17th, making her a Leo
🎶 She stands at 5’2”. She can be thrown on throw ppl under 5’2” day…..
☀ She is selectively mute and largely non verbal
🎶 She mainly communicates through sign language, though she also has a pichu themed notebook with various pens (it was a gift from Ben) that she'll use instead if someone doesn't understand sign. Alternatively, she will force herself to speak if the situation calls for it.
☀ She has an actual horde of plushies, both “official,” and “knock-off” ones.
🎶 She is unable to stay still for extended periods of time. If she's not on a mission or quest, she's often pacing or trying to find something to do.
☀ She's prone to fidgeting with her scarf or her hands if she has nothing to occupy them. She'd benefit greatly from a fidget cube ngl
🎶 She's very good at identifying berries, and uses them to make little snacks that are edible for both people and pokemon
☀ She's lactose intolerant :( no dairy for her
🎶 Voice Claim! Connor Kelly! Specifically the softer voice she uses for Operator 21O in Nier Automata (BEWARE the video contains Boss Enemy Death, Strong Language and Blood)
youtube
but still close to the one for Catria from Fire Emblem Echoes (the blue one)
youtube
☀ there's probably more I'm blanking on I'll reblog if I remember more

This meta post will be discussing my take on magick in the Fire Emblem universe ( mostly centered around SoV ). This headcanon is exclusive to how Delthea sees it as she is inherently unwillingly a talented prodigy who does not essentially believe in the mere act of believing and has to see some form of explanation or rationale for her to accept it. Which is why sometimes Delthea tends to be confused when handed a tome during combat and ignorant when taught how to cast magic; going as far as to think she’s being belittled. Due to her never having to directly use a tome to support her casting, she understands tomes are for grasping the concept of certain spells but Delthea, herself, has never used a tome to learn anything thus far and is more of a visual learner when it comes to magick.
Note: I make a very specific distinction between “Magic” and “Magick” as most attribute the former to stage magic and sleight-of-hand whereas the latter denotes sorcery, witchcraft, and everything that is seen by mages in Fire Emblem. Another word to describe “magick” is “thaumaturgy” which is a more accurate description, but for simplicity’s sake, I’ll mostly be denoting to magick for this post. I will also be ignoring a lot of the gameplay mechanics from Fates/Engage because it fundamentally breaks a lot of conventions due to its lack of tome/weapon durability and lack of “HP Drain” mechanic which is an important aspect of this meta.
Magick and Its Costs
In Fire Emblem, magick is wielded in a number of methods depending on the game. Most situations, magick is harnessed via tomes that eventually break after a certain number of uses. For FE Echoes, magick is available by offering one’s stamina/energy/life force in exchange for power to realize the application of spells in real life. This can also apply to weapon combat arts, Where it is the physical exhaustion they incur on the user in Echoes, thus draining HP. While in Three Houses, a result of the academy teaching students to let the weapon take the brunt of the force so that it suffers damage instead of the wielder.
In many cases, casting spells will create lasting damages to one’s body, a testament to why many mages wear gloves in order to conceal the direct damage their bodies—namely their hands—endure when offering a piece of themselves into their attack; these injuries are usually relative to whatever spell one uses, but that is not always the case ( Fire leaves horrific burns when used improperly, Aura forces one to collapse as if pressured by an overbearing weight that threatens to crush their body ). Exceptions to this are Celica, Delthea, and Luthier who likely have built-in resistances due to their long lineage of ancestors attuned to magick, and having lived in a magick-oriented community for their entire lives or in Celica’s case, divine blessing of some degree, this doesn’t exactly mean their immune to injury it’s just less likely to have their magicks get out of control compared to non-lineage mages.
Magick in SoV essentially follows the law of conservation of mass, where any system of of transferring energy to mass, and vice versa, must remain consistent over time; for example, an ice cube has a set mass and when it melts into water, that mass—now volume—remains relatively consistent over time ( e.g. think of like FMA’s rule for alchemy ). For magick in SoV, one uses their life force and converts it to a spell equal to how much life they give up, which is why spells like Fire take practically nothing whereas spells like Aura, Sagittae, and Ragnarok, while powerful, require more of one’s life force in order to properly initiate the spell. As for the reason why this the case, it is likely because the more “abstract” and complicated a spell is, the more energy it requires for the spell to not only take shape, but to also have actual potency. With tomes, mages are free from giving up their life in order to cast spells because the tome serves as the medium through which energy is converted and expelled as a spell. This is why tomes have durability and why more powerful spells have a limited number of uses compared to their weaker counterparts ( e.g. Thoron vs. Thunder ).
Rituals are also not exempt from this system; if anything, they’re the class of spells that require the most in terms of sacrifice. This can be seen with Tatarrah kidnapping Delthea and brainwashed her into a Witch. On a larger scale, this also can be seen when Berkut offering Rinea to Duma in a last-ditch effort to attain the power to defeat Alm by letting Duma transform his beloved into a Witch. Sacrifice is a large aspect of Magick, and in SoV it’s a question of how much are you willing to give up in your pursuit for strength? Such is the recurring theme in many Faustian tales, and while the devil may not always be present, the temptation remains.
Magick as an Inherited Trait
A thing to also know about mages is that not everyone is born with the potential to be a mage ( of course ignoring Fates’s marriage/friend seals and Three Houses’ class/seminar system ) nor is everyone born with the ability to be an excellent mage. This disparity is especially visible in SoV where some characters are downright horrible at being mages whereas others absolutely excel. Characters like Gray and Tobin would perform horribly as mages due to their limited repertoire of spells while Kliff and Celica are naturally better and have a larger library of spells to work with ( Kliff especially so because he learns the most spells out of all the male mages ). Much of this relates to one’s bloodline as legacy and social stratification are fundamental topics SoV attempts to tackle in its narrative—where the bonds of fate seem so inexplicably intertwined and those chosen by it daring to break those foundations all at once.
Luthier and Delthea mention that their affinity for magicks is due to one of their ancestors being an exceptionally powerful sorceress, that affinity having carried on down her bloodline and resonating best in females. This is not to suggest that such an affinity is gender-locked. It’s likely that magick affinity is a mutation in humans in Fire Emblem and when it occurs, it becomes a dominant trait that becomes linked to one’s DNA and only unlocks depending on whether someone matches similar traits with the progenitor of the magick affinity trait.
Learning Magick
However, one can only do so much with simply being born with the talent; magick is something that needs to be cultivated in order to truly become a force to be reckoned with. Going back to the law of conservation of mass, one must have enough vitality in order to power their spells, meaning that physical training and maintaining one’s health is paramount; it’s likely that endurance exercises are at the core of a mage’s training in Valentia as opposed to muscular training ( such exercises might include: running, daily stretches, yoga, etc. ). Training the physical body allows one to have the resources required to cast a spell, but in order to conjure anything one must understand the science and intricacies behind the spell.
Spells are can be learned through tomes, although sometimes an individual might be able to cast spells from the get-go ( albeit in an unstable form, depending on one’s ability and talent ). While certain spells can be hailed down as a divine revelation, due to having no real physical tome of said spells like, Ragnarok & Ragnarok Ω.  But beyond learning, one must understand what it is that they are casting and envision with absolute clarity its existence and function lest it backfire on the user or their allies. For simplicity’s sake, we will take a look at Fire.
Fire—as in the concept—is generally understood as a force of warmth: a phenomenon that heats everything around or in it and has the ability to destroy or heal certain injuries. Fire burns brightly and serves as the cornerstone on which mankind is able to survive and evolve, for without fire one cannot cook their meats or warm families during hostile winters. Fire stokes the furnaces with which mankind is able to create weapons, it finds home in the sun and the stars which illuminate the path when darkness nears. In understanding fire and how it behaves on an intimate level, a mage is able to convert their vitality into heat and light and create a ball of fire.
The more tangible and concrete a spell is, the easier it is for a mage to cast it without risking their health. This truth applies just as well to spells which take on more abstract or complex forms such as Sagittae and Aura; while powerful, these spells require a certain level of imagination in order to come to life. While light exists and is what enables one to see, to create that which is intangible tangible is something else entirely. For spells like these, part of one’s vitality goes into actually making the spell corporeal and the rest go into the spell’s potency and allowing it to take flight in the direction of one’s enemy.
Tome Magick vs. Unassisted Magick
Tome users have it easy compared to those who perform magick without a medium as they can simply use the energy imbued within a tome in order to cast a spell. Of course, learning magick from tomes is still a difficult task, but the method of execution is generally much safer ( albeit less potent ) compared to unassisted magick which is why most cultures favor tome magick; it’s uniquely in Valentia where the law of conservation of mass seems to be upheld like a religion ( e.g. offerings to rejuvenate one’s health or sacrifice your very being in exchange for power ).
Tomes are created through careful crafting in order to prevent the magick inside from becoming unstable and it’s a craft that is heavy in demand due to their limited nature. The making of the book itself is not so important as the ink that is used to inscribe text and sigils adorning every page. The ink is made with specific types of ores ( crystals ) or other substances believed to be capable of storing magicks—the rarer the material, the better it will be at holding large quantities of magick ( and more expensive )—and depending on what is written denotes the properties of the spell contained in that specific tome. As stated prior, tomes can only do so much before the ink loses all of its magick and the book becomes inert, but this method alleviates any risk of the user losing their life when attempting to fight for said life.  Sometimes, special weapons maybe preferred to use weapons as catalyst in order to help reduce the burden of magic  ( as seen in classes such as the Priestess/Enchantress/Harrier. These classes would specialize in both forms of combat but exchanging tomes for rings and sword mediums )
Unassisted magick is the reverse with being inherently more powerful at the cost of one’s vitality; that being said, another difference between the two is that tome users are not able to alter the properties to the same extent as unassisted magick users. In other words, tome users have less freedom and control of their spells compared to unassisted magick users as the spells they cast are limited by what’s available in the tome of their choosing. Hence why Celica is able to freely cast fire magic in order to light the way as she wanders through dungeons. While Valentian mages do, in fact, use tomes, they are only ever used for training or spells that are not meant for battle as they are also just as unreliable in combat due to it’s lackluster power and often rely on the power of special magick rings to alleviate or mediate any harsh backlash that casting may set.
Healing Magick
Healing magick ( white magick ) functions similarly to their destructive counterparts with the only difference being that staves are used as a medium for casting magicks to their intended target. It can only be assumed that healing magick functions much like a wave and thus dissipates when it is cast without a medium, so by having something like a staff, one can simply point to their intended target and heal them without worrying about the effects trickling elsewhere. This can also explain how Saints are able to heal units all around them through Renewal and how the spell fortify heals a large area in a wavelike fashion.
Other Forms of Magick
As seen in SoV and other games, magicks unrelated to combat exist such as illusions, divination, scrying, and projection. These magicks aren’t explained or seen as often so it’s hard to really provide an explanation, but in most cases these spells are cast far from battle and often demonstrated in the form of a ritual. For entities like Jedah who have offered themselves to Duma for power, such magicks can be used without a ritual and likely cost them little ( as they have already offered their entire selves to Duma ) whereas other mages likely offer certain items with magical properties as an offering rather than using their life force to conduct these otherwise arduous rituals.
