I want a blessed Eliwood playthrough. Honestly, once he gets on a horse, he’s much better than people give him credit for. I get the hype around Hector as a unit, but by GOD do I have using armored knights and their non-existent movement, so even him I start bitching about lol. I hope Seteth can also be part of the “dads who dodge the FE dead dad curse” meme, but he’s not a lord’s parent. Edelgard’s, Byleth’s, and Dimitri’s fathers all already bit it, but hey, congrats, Claude’s dad!
The “God” Ephraim vs “stupid” Erikia is very similar to Celicca bad vs Alm good, or Micaiah bad vs Ike good. It doesn’t help Ephraim is unquestionably an absolute unit and Erikia is . . . not 😭
Charming is the perfect word for him. During like the prologue he seemed kinda bland, but God it didn’t take long for him to make me feel like a high schooler crushing on my first character again lol. Dimitri definitely seems the most ready to assume leadership. I think I wrote up about this a bit comparing leaders to revolutionaries (well, sans current mental breakdown). He is far more accepting and aware of his sense of duty to others rather than focusing on what he feels passionate about (except you could argue he’s passionate about helping and understanding others out). I think his take on Crests really showcases his ability to see multiple perspectives and understand what his people are thinking and act from there rather than laser focus on his wants. Now that I think about it, Dimitri literally never complains about anything or talks about his own problems. Even his headaches and insomnia he never mentions, someone else (Felix or Dedue), brings it to Byleth’s attention and then Dimitri downplays it when confronted about it. If anything, he could afford to be slightly less duty focused and let his own thoughts, pains, wants, and beliefs take center stage, and since I’m betting that’ll be at least part of his character arc, I really think the Kingdom will be left in good hands.
I love that Azure Moon is basically “hey, what if the kind blue lord had actual trauma from their painful backstory”
Yep.
At first when Dimitri mentioned revenge, I worried he’d be Chrom 2.0 again since Chrom “revenge” was kinda soft (no hate, I love Chrom, I just wish Awakening did more with it).
I’m SOOOOO excited they’re actually daring to go places with Dimitri and not be so worried about keeping him unoffensive and vanilla.
Though, Dimitri even without the whole vengeance and trauma-induced mental illness is really awkwardly adorable and takes his duty seriously rather than moans “woe is me to be so rich and privileged, I don’t wanna be a prince.’ Even without that, I would’v been pretty taken with him. Full confession time - my favorite Fire Emblem lords (sans 3 Houses, want to finish it first) are Erikia and Eliwood 😅 - so I’m a big fan of nice, emotional lords who want to solve things with talking, not fighting.
