back again with some more WoF tribe hcs

SkyWings commonly lack the ability to taste sweet things, part of the population lost the gene after the tribe became mainly carnivorous. This is inspired by real life cats, who lost the gene due to being obligate carnivores.

SandWings and MudWings commonly eat bugs. SandWings will snack on beetles when they find them, and MudWings will pick through a decomposing log like a bear to find tasty grubs. MudWings also commonly break into beehives and use their fire to smoke the bees before taking some honeycomb along with some comb that stores tasty bee larvae.

NightWings had very few bugs on the volcano for obvious reasons, besides like, some cockroaches, so it's very weird when they come into the rainforest and there's Things crawling everywhere.

RainWings and SandWings both have an innate fear of certain bugs, especially spiders. The only reason RainWings avoid eating bugs is because of the abundance of poisonous ones in the forest.

MudWings typically avoid eating alligators or crocodiles because of their similarity to dragons. Sometimes, though, they keep them as pets.

Anacondas found in the rainforest or mud kingdom will not pass up the chance to eat a dragon egg.

Some SeaWings are immune to anemone stings, like clownfish.

RainWings have to suppress their judgments about other tribes based on their coloration, reminding themselves that SkyWings aren't always angry even though they're red and orange, SeaWings aren't always sad or upset, NightWings aren't constantly seething with hatred, etc. It's hard for other tribes to really grasp the connotations that colors have for them; for RainWings, color is essentially their language. Even the color of a gift they are given can have meaning. It can result in misunderstanding with members of tribes without good color differentiation.

It's also difficult for other tribes to learn to read RainWing colors, as one color rarely ever means just one thing, and rarely is a RainWing ever just one color for long. Well, besides Jambu. But he's the weird one.

Most RainWings aren't used to being asked their favorite color. How do you answer that? Your favorite mood? Obviously, most dragons like it when they're happy. So they would usually just pick yellow or pink or light blue.

SandWings really like dark colors. You don't see a lot of those in the desert. Dark greens and purples and blues and reds. Those sort of colors are the ones that queens have their fabric dyed. Luxurious.

Tigers are solitary hunters with a presence in Firish folklore. They can quickly ascend trees by attaching their fire to trunks and shooting along them.

Firefowl pick at seeds and burning insects. They gather in small flocks with equal populations of males and females. The smaller and brighter burning males compete for mates through displays of their sustained, energy-intensive raised temperature.

A firefowl egg appears as a dense charcoal with an internal ember, which ignites and consumes the egg within days, forming a new fowl.

The Tsí’tsà’sh word for ‘boat’, êbshà, originates from the name given to the shape of a beetle’s shell. It’s an orange-color orange-fruit situation. Burning boats are named as such for their flecked elytra and two whirling antennae.

Red princes will occasionally emerge from the charred forests to roam villages. They are only rivaled in strength by the tigers.

The Firish horse is short and stocky. When not at work, it will graze and clear dried vegetation to allow for new growth.

Frolic with the Fire Salamander

The fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) is a species of salamander native to the deciduous forests of central and southern Europe. They commonly reside near sources of water such as ponds or streams, but can also be found under logs and leaf litter in moist environments.

Fire salamanders are so named for their bright yellow and black coloration, which serves to warn away potential predators. In addition to their unique look, S. salamandra is also noted as the largest salamander species, at up to 25 cm (9.8 in); females are slightly larger than males. The two are otherwise indistinguishable outside the breeding season, when the area around the male's vent swells.

Depending on their region, S. salamandra breed at different times of the year; those in colder climates begin in June or July, while populations in warmer areas mate in October. Males seek out females on land, and after a brief courtship ritual he deposits a packet of sperm for her to pick up. The eggs develop internally throughout the winter, and the female gives birth to 20-75 newly hatched larvae in the following spring. These larvae live in ponds or slow-moving streams for 3-5 months before fully metamorphosing into adults. Individuals can survive for up to 14 years in the wild.

The bright coloration of fire salamanders is a form of aposematism; warning predators of their toxicity. The skin secretes a highly potent toxin, which can also be sprayed directly at potential threats. However, only adults have this ability, so juveniles may be victim to birds, frogs, fish, and mammals like weasels and foxes. S. salamandra in turn consumes mainly insects and invertebrates like earthworms, slugs, larvae, beetles, and centipedes. They do most of their foraging at night, and rarely stray far from their small home territory./

Conservation status: The fire salamander is considered Vulnerable by the IUCN. Their main threat is from the chytrid fungus, which can wipe out entire localities. Populations are also threatened by habitat loss, as they require both pristine waters and dense forests to thrive.

I do suppose I could share the character design line up!

I really just need to finish designing all the go karts, (atleast most are done!) and then I can make proper cards for them and really get into the written details.

To be honest it’s a little hard to just ramble about info and details without specific questions to go off of, so I’ll try my best hhh

for starters, the tent? Not a tent!

It’s actually a stadium, the amazing digital race!

And rooms? Sort of tweaked, they are more like each character owns a personal garage, a large open space where they store their vehicles and then have a loft above that showcases their cozy safe havens. Bed, entertainment, basically a small room in a much larger one.

I haven’t revealed Ragatha, Zooble or Gangles karts yet but I’ll go ahead and just talk about all of them!

Caine:

Caine has a motorcycle, specifically one inspired off of the motorcycle I’m saving up for this summer, a Kawasaki Eliminator. It’s a cruiser, I’m thinking he has a 600cc model but considering Bubble is his right hand man and operates as the races pit crew- he’s definitely tinkered with Caines bike, making adjustments and improving the engine. God only knows what the little psycho did, but it’s a damn good bike that’s not supposed to rev as loud as it does.

Pomni:

Her kart is inspired off a Volkswagen Beetle, seemed very VERY Pomni to me. Her car mimics her outfit design a lot, I might do some color changes to be honest but it will be super minimal, it’ll be final when the cards are done! She definitely stops at the pit the most often despite her placement in a race, are my tires okay?? Do I need my oil?? I know you just filled it but it went down- is anything damaged?? Sweetie you did one lap..

Jax:

Jesus Christ he has a giant supercharger on the hood of his car, and he is absolutely one of those annoying mfs that reva their engine OBNOXIOUSLY loud all the time like he’s super cool. If you’re wondering who most of the skid marks on the track are from, that’s also Jax. Hes the best as drifting, and he loves to show that off. His car isn’t based too much on an actual vehicle?? I stared at Mario karts and pieced it together, but also gave it a very sports car look, the wing on the back fr fr I think Jax would dig that.

Kinger:

OHHSOSK I was so creative with his little wagon,,, it’s castle shaped!! And the best part? Operates like a rocket. In the back past the battlement (the crown looking thing you see atop castle pillars) ARE GIANT exhaust pipes and yes, they do spit fire !! Operates like a rocket. It’s very cool! (Also he has a great muffler because unlike Jax he’s considerate of others hearing 💔) Oh also, he has one of those silly horns, I forgot how to describe it but you can just look at how I drew it on his kart and you’ll know heheh!

Zooble:

Our second motorcyclist, owns a trike! If you don’t know what that is, picture a bike with training wheels but super badass. 3 wheels! It’s inspired off the Harley Davidson freewheeler, I like that design a lot but it’s def not actually a Harley because istg when you buy those bikes your just paying for the fancy name brand- expect it to be in the shop all the time, smh not good- BUT ANYWAY!! The looks are inspired off it though and I can’t wait for this one because it’s just as crazy kooky as Zoobles design is.

Gangle:

Her kart is based on my favorite car, classic style but not too cool because you can bet she has anime stickers on the back and a decal that says “please let me merge before I start crying.” It’s similar to a karmann ghia convertible, 1963. Cherry red (so so pretty) She always has the top down, unless competing because damn you gotta go fast. That car itself is really slow, top speed normally is 68mph, however people have modified them enough to get up to 120mph. Thats still pretty slow compared to others, but her kart only reflects the appearance of the ghia! It’s much faster and I assume Bubble works on all their vehicles if asked to.

Lastly, Ragatha:

Our 3rd motorcyclist. 4 Karts, 3 cyclists. Her bike is a futuristic style, if you want a good idea then look up “icare bike”! Not so much a straight forward posture, she leans over ofc, you’ll likely get the idea when you see her bike. I’ll be honest, I haven’t gotten too into her design yet because I haven’t started drawing but!! Dark blue leds,, everywhere yes yes so cool ❤️

Someone sent an ask about green and black beetles and it got me thinking about DC's Martians' designs because of how I designed blue beetle and the fact that green beetle is martian. So I redesigned martians :]

I have lots of beef with american alien concepts (xenomorph too but less for various reasons) especially intelligent alien species' designs. Yes, i understand the audience needs to empathize with our alien heroes, Cameron, but then they stop being alien. Aliens don't need to be appealing visually, psychologically or socially to us at all, if you are intending to write them seriously.

But of course, all this applies only if you want your writing and design to be realistic or close to reality.

I have several noted points about DC's Martians I'd like to question and or correct in my design, I'll be going off of young justice's martian designs because those are the least human canon designs of them and the most interesting ones. (They can mostly be seen at the beginning of season 4 of YJ) here's the green beetle without the suit and miss martian for reference:

In the show martians are shown to not only have a variety in color but also body type (in some places) which is rare even in an animated show with just humans so big kudos for the animators on that, big fan.

AND martians have webbing between their fingers, arms and torso in this design which could point that they were a water dwelling species in the far past, so also a very big fan of that.

To the redesign:

I had a few ideas.

First I got rid of the teeth on the outside and turned them into a beak because that would be the same thing. Proportionally they are also quite different from the original.

I have some issues with martian abilities. The density shifting is ridiculous (leave it to the ghosts who can bend reality) flying would be unnecessary with the gravity on Mars, there shouldn't be a reason why they could do that. Telekinesis too, for what? What would be its purpose? For survival? They would have found a way without it and otherwise it is physically impossible. *huff*

But some are forgivable, like shape shifting and camouflage if you don't have bones which i solved and telepathy which could just be a very specific frequency only they could emit and hear, that could be adjusted depending on who they were speaking with (with the reading thoughts bit just make them loose the ability to lie, problem solved.) Of course that would also mean their vocal cords wouldn't be made for human speech, but that technology can solve.

The weakness to fire could just be because Mars is also a lot colder then earth.

Our biochemistry should be similar enough tho, carbon based n' all. @wazzappp i thought maybe you would want to see this :>

Not too fond of the colors, but while I was wondering what they should wear, I thought it would be great if they made their clothes out of their pupae silk too!

I thought, with not much vegetation in the desert, they’d be more likely to wear clothes made of other insects. Here, I imagine they’d make some kind of plastron out of a desert beetle and a tunic from its wings. I know they’re known for their speed, but I wasn’t feeling very inspired. Maybe I’ll draw some more one day, running in the sand. Could be fun! (Also, I may have some turtle ant sketches I did a while back. If you’re interested, I could color them.)

Fire ant for @gardensinner's sister ! I might do another batch of fire ants; I had fun with their design. (I tried to make this one walk on water :'D) But I feel like I could do more with a few more of them; they’re more interesting in numbers, I think. Because they’re a bit of an invasive species and you can find them almost anywhere nowadays, I had trouble finding good ideas for her clothes. So I chose bark clothes, which is my default mode for ants along with leaves. I assume any ant that would like to clothe itself would think of bark and leaves as their first options. Also, bark induces weaving, which I find super cool.

As you can tell, my focus was mostly on ant clothes because it's fun to wonder what an ant would do to dress herself. I'd like to do a bunch of sketches, not colorized, about weaving and other types of cloth-making. It could be cool.

Also, like @sugarcoatedcricket mentioned, I’d like to take ant anatomy into account. In these drawings, I tried to keep their sides free of any fabrics to let them breathe. I think that’s a very neat detail, so thank you again for pointing this out!

Here I draw my tiefling Red and some other characters related to him with Indian Inks, mainly in black and white, and adding a hint of color in the insects that I portray. The main idea was that Red's world didn't have any actual animals and only giant insects existed… so here are some concepts I did while doing an october challenge I created myself…

Here’s the poster for @georgi-girl’s Trolls Elemental AU fanfic, Winged Reign, which coincidentally is a crossover between Trolls and Neopets. It follows the story of Princess Poppy, Branch, and the Snack Pack as butterfly fairies as they grew up with the dragonfly fairies alongside their childhood friend, Princess Rosetta a.k.a Princess Rose after they were scattered from their court during the escape, which is “orchestrated” by the Darkest Faerie. Together, they’d spend the day playing hide-and-seek and flying without a care at day and wishing upon stars at night.

When Princess Rose made a wish, she gets a more direct answer than she bargained for when she got an unexpected call from her ancestors to reunite the seven fairy courts and take down the Darkest Faerie together. As they travel throughout their home, the Isle of the Fay and all over Neopia, they met humans, neopets, and other mythical creatures as they learn the key to making their dreams come true and the connection between stars, wishes, and the soul.

The trolls characters in this AU are mythical beings and I wanna start about the trolls characters as fairies. The fairies are a subspecies of fae who are the more colorful cousins of the faeries. They have longer, pointed ears, colorful skin, hair, and eyes, insectoid wings that vary in shapes and size, and matching antennae. There are seven fairy courts that rule over fairykind, the earth court (its fairies have beigetone coloration, cricket-like antennae, and their wings are shaped like fruit slices, flower petals, and leaves), the water court (the fairies have neon colors but lacked antennae, have webbed-like ears, and fish fin wings for both swimming and flying), the fire court (the fairies that belong to the fire court are muddy-colored, with beetle-like clubbed antennae, beetle-like wings, and beetle shells as armor), the air court (they’re mostly yellow skinned but have bee antennae and wings with a light plaster of glitter), the mind court (the fairies there are colorful have moth-like antennae (the men have thick feathery antennae while the women have refined and threadlike antennae) and wings, are African-coded, and they’re powerful empaths), the energy court (the fairies are very colorful, possess butterfly wings and antennae, and some can have glittery details on their wings, which makes them emit fairy dust in flight), and the light court (the fairies of the dominant tribe have a variety of colored skin, hair, and eyes but some have some have luminous, chrome, metallic, pastel or vibrant hair and eyes, straight antennae, and dragonfly wings). The subtribes are the noble houses that were the nobility of the light court, with spring, summer, autumn, and winter houses leading them.

As for the Bergens, they’re giants in Neopia, the Party Crashers are drakes, the vacaytioners are merfolk, and the rageons are elves while the known neopets, both heroes and villains, are mostly humans but the others being pixies, centaurs, satyrs, minotaurs, ogres, and other mythical beings and creatures.

Anyway! Undertale AU where all the fallen human souls are put into monster vessels! Does this AU break canon? I don’t know! Do I plan to make more? I also do not know!

Explanations for the designs under cut:

Chara is a dragon due to the Dreemur’s demonic association, which also gives them dragon vibes with their fire. There’s a lot of correlation with dragons and demons in medieval folklore. Plus… I made this what did you expect

Patience is a sponge because sponges are sessile, and cyan attacks won’t hurt if you’re stationary. Plus, I believe they’re one of the first humans to fall into the Underground, and sponges are some of the oldest animals.

Bravery is a shark because sharks need to keep moving to live, while orange attacks don’t hurt if you’re moving. And they’re also a very badass animal, at least the tiger and great white sharks I used for basis, and Bravery seemed to have a tough guy persona.

Integrity is a Dullahan since they seem to have killed a lot of monsters in canon Undertale (and did do so in UTY), so an undead creature is some fun irony. Plus, Dullahan specifically fits with how they’re implied to have died in UTY.

Perseverance is an octopus since they seemed to be a fuckin nerd, and octopi are some of the smartest animals. Also I think Undertale needs a mind flayer squid person as a monster character.

Kindness is a beetle since the green soul’s ability is a shield, and their attack in the Flowey battle is fire from a frying pan. The design is specifically based around bombardier beetles and fireflies.

Day 6. This dragon oddly has a power not associated with their tribe

A full-body of Sunny, with the power of a Nightwings, having big fluffy ears and hearing better than the others. She is lightly based on the desert long-nosed bat and the leopard gecko, but the only traits shower were the ears and snout respectively. I like the colors but I think the right leg looks wrong.

[Start ID: Sunny from Wings of Fire, a book series about dragons, with a happy face and large eyes. Her eyes are Lime, grass, and dark green with a giant black pupil and one white hilight. Her short hair goes brown, pumpkin orange, and orange. Her horns are dark brown and her ears are light yellow. Being Ackar must be Wack at One Point

Imagine being Ackar, fighting battles on a regular basis for hundred of thousands of years (even moreso after Malum left to become a sand hippie), wasting away as he collects trophies as to not turn insane from the looming hopelessness of Bara Magna and being the only reliable fire Glatorian that Vulcanus has to offer. He'd prolly accepted his fate of being struck down by Strakk and finally relieved from his duties as it would mean the Agori would further lost faith in him, when a stranger with golden-yellow paint, with a beetle (basically unusual color scheme and idt it exists in any other tribes) intervenes and performs what can only be described as magic. The stranger then refuses their victory and sticks with him until he gets home.

Further down the line the stranger transforms your rusty sword to imbue it with powers that only the Elements Lords has wielded as of yet. The stranger then also proposes to link up all the villages and then do reckless quests, speaking of legends such as The Great Beings and Great Spirit Robots. Also spoke of how something akin to an evil god will make its way to the land. Then they brought a cube and transforms into a giant freaking robot.

Another freaking bigger giant robot arrives. With minions pouring out of its toes. What.

Another stranger with your color scheme wearing golden armor, possibly with nonsensical alien biology arrives and then blasts the yellow minions away into their empty shells. Your first stranger, now a friend, smashes one of the freaking moon (or a very big flying rock, depending on your preferred canon) into the second giant robot. Then they start to bring life into your barren world, plants that you don't even know of, water that both the Agori and Glatorian fights for bursts in unthinkable quantity, creatures chirping and making noises its deafening compared to the deathly silence that everyone is used to.

Also your yellow friend is now a talking mask and decided to be comatose.

Golden Poison Frogs: The Gold Standard

Golden poison frogs (Phyllobates terribilis) are a species of frog found only along the Pacific coast in the Amazon Rainforest of Columbia; their total range encompasses less than 5,000 square km;. Their prime habitat is near rivers, streams, and ponds, but the are able to survive in a variety of microhabitats along the forest floor thanks to the forest's extremely warm, humid climate.

The golden poison frog is perhaps noted for its crowning as the most poisonous species on the planet. A single adult contains enough poison in its skin to kill 2-3 grown humans, although the frog would have to be ingested for its toxins to be fatal. However, there is at least one species of snake, the fire-bellied snake (Erythrolamprus epinephalus) which is immune to the frog's toxins and often predates on juveniles. P. terribilis consumes a variety of insects, but gets its poison from the beetles in its diet, and without them individuals lose their toxicity.

Although tiny, the golden poison frog is hard to miss. They are the largest species of poison frog at a weight of 30 g (1 oz) and a length of 6 cm (2.4 in). Females are usually larger than males. The species is named for the most common color moroph, bright yellow, but populations may also come in green, orange, and white. The coloration is a warning to predators to stay away.

Golden poison frogs are typically active during the day. Members of the same sex are highly territorial, but populations within a small area can be quite large. Individuals defend their territory by calling loudly and performing a push-up motion, which can also serve to attract potential mates. The species can reproduce year-round, and both males and females have multiple partners.

After the female has laid a clutch of about 20 eggs, the male carries them on his back up a tree to a bromeliad or small tree hole filled with water. There the eggs hatch as tadpoles after 11-12 days. The tadpoles feed on algae and insect larvae until they metamorphose into froglets, which takes about 2 months. The froglets take a further year to fully mature, and adults may live for up to 5 years.

Conservation status: P. terribilis is classified as Endangered by the IUCN. The species has a relatively small home range, and is seriously threatened by habitat loss. However, there are many private, government, and NGO captive-bread populations across the globe.
