(They fly to and land inside the cryo-ship. Rick turns on the lights and whistles. They start walking around, looking at the cryo-pods with aliens placed into cryo-sleep inside of them.)
Rick: Holy shit! Look at this place! Damn, Morty! It ain't just your run-of-the-mill arc ship. This thing is gold-plated!
(Morty knocks on the glass of one of the cryo-pods.)
Morty: Wow. Where do you think they're going? Colonizing a new planet?
(Rick accesses the ship's computer and laughs at what he sees.)
Rick: Heh, looks like these guys flung themselves into space after wrecking their homeworld. This'll be like taking candy from a baby... if that baby was in a coma!
Morty: Oh! We're- we're robbing them?
(Rick gestures to the computer screen.)
Rick: They robbed their planet first, Morty.
(The two find a giant sealed vault door and run up to it.)
Rick: Whoa, mama! You see this, Morty? This thing is fancy! Computer said it's got super-rare hyper-coal inside. The planet they left is a husk, Morty! They sucked their marble dry!
(Rick attempts to get inside by pressing a button on the vault computer. The vault computer denies him entry.)
Cryo-ship computer voice: Access denied.
Rick: ...Huh.
(Rick frowns and removes a device from his labcoat and puts it on top of the vault's computer, trying to hack his way in. The vault computer beeps twice, showing he is still denied access.)
Rick: Alright, on second thought, let's just blow a hole in the ship and drag the vault home.
Morty: WHAT?!
(Rick ignores him and pulls out a bag from his labcoat.)
Rick: Help me with these charges.
Morty: Rick, I'm fine with taking candy from a baby, but I draw the line at blowing up the stroller!
(Morty grabs the bag of explosives. He and Rick start fighting over it.)
Rick: What the hell, Morty! We're not LITERALLY robbing babies!
(The bag tears and Morty falls backward. The explosives in the bag fly across the floor. One hits the floor and activates.)
Rick: Goddamnit, Morty! Look what you did!
(Rick activates a forcefield to shield them from the blast as the device explodes. An alarm from the cryo-ship's speakers begins blaring as fire spreads from the explosion. Sprinklers from the ceiling turn on and begin raining water down to try to put out the fire.)
Cryo-ship computer voice: Fire detected. Emergency cryo-wake commencing in 30 seconds…
(Morty starts running up the stairs back to the main area of the cryo-ship, and Rick follows behind him.)
Rick: You little shit! You woke 'em up!
Morty: Fine! Let's get out of here!
(Rick grabs the collar of Morty's shirt and yanks him back. Rick types something into the cryo-ship computer.)
Rick: Fuck you! I'm not leaving without that hyper-coal!
(The ship shows a red X over two of the cryo-pods, both on separate levels of the ship. Rick starts pulling his own ears into points to make himself look like the aliens inside of the cryo-pods.)
Rick: Now go find that other pod with a dead guy in it!
(Rick pulls Morty's ears into points as Morty yelps like it hurts.)
Morty: Hey!
(Rick continues talking over him.)
Rick: Sub-bay 18!
Morty: What dead guy?!
(Rick begins removing his own clothes so he's naked like the aliens in the other cryo-pods.)
Rick: Just get in the pod with the bones! Or don't and get thrown out an airlock!
(Rick grabs the skeleton from the open pod and puts it into a box. He puts the box inside of a small chamber, closing the door and hiding the box. Rick climbs inside of the now empty cryo-pod.)
Cryo-ship computer voice: Cryo-wake in 10 seconds…
Morty: RICK!
Rick: You did this to yourself, Morty! Your dumb-ass moral compass has really fucked things up!
(Rick slams the cryo-pod closed. Morty screams in panic and starts running to find the other cryo-pod to hide in.)

The new tool in the art of spotting forgeries: Artificial Intelligence
Instead of obsessing over materials, the new technique takes a hard look at the picture itself – specifically, the thousands of tiny individual strokes that compose it
In late March, a judge in Wiesbaden, Germany, found herself playing the uncomfortable role of art critic. On trial before her were two men accused of forging paintings by artists including Kazimir Malevich and Wassily Kandinsky, whose angular, abstract compositions can now go for eight-figure prices. The case had been in progress for three and a half years and was seen by many as a test. A successful prosecution could help end an epidemic of forgeries – so-called miracle pictures that appear from nowhere – that have been plaguing the market in avant-garde Russian art.
But as the trial reached its climax, it disintegrated into farce. One witness, arguably the world’s leading Malevich authority, argued that the paintings were unquestionably fakes. Another witness, whose credentials were equally impeccable, swore that they were authentic. In the end, the forgery indictments had to be dropped; the accused were convicted only on minor charges.
The judge was unimpressed. “Ask 10 different art historians the same question and you get 10 different answers,” she told the New York Times. Adding a touch of bleak comedy to proceedings, it emerged that the warring experts were at the wrong end of a bad divorce.
It isn’t a comforting time for art historians. Weeks earlier, in January, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, was forced to pull 24 works supposedly by many of the same Russian artists – Kandinsky, Malevich, Rodcheko, Filonov – after the Art Newspaper published an exposé arguing they were all forged. Just days before, there was uproar when 21 paintings shown at a Modigliani exhibition in Genoa, Italy, were confiscated and labeled as fakes. Works that had been valued at millions of dollars were abruptly deemed worthless.
The market in old masters is also jittery after an alarming series of scandals – the greatest of which was that paintings handled by the respected collector Giuliano Ruffini were suspect. A Cranach, a Parmigiano, and a Frans Hals were all found to be forged; institutions including the Louvre had been fooled. The auction house Sotheby’s was forced to refund $10m for the Hals alone. Many experts are now reluctant to offer an opinion, in case they��re sued – which, of course, only intensifies the problem.
Adding fuel to the fire is another development: Wary of being caught, more and more forgers are copying works from the early to mid-20th century. It’s much easier to acquire authentic materials, for one thing, and modern paintings have rocketed in value in recent years.
For many in the industry, it is starting to look like a crisis. Little wonder that galleries and auction houses, desperate to protect themselves, have gone CSI. X-ray fluorescence can detect paint and pigment type; infrared reflectography and Raman spectroscopy can peer into a work’s inner layers and detect whether its very component molecules are authentic. Testing the chemistry of a flake of paint less than a millimeter wide can disclose deep secrets about where and, crucially, when it was made.
“It’s an arms race,” says Jennifer Mass, an authentication expert who runs the Delaware-based firm Scientific Analysis of Fine and Decorative Art. “Them against us.”
But what if you didn’t need to go to all that trouble? What if the forger’s handwriting was staring you in the face, if only you could see it? That’s the hope of researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey, who have pioneered a method that promises to turn art authentication on its head.
Instead of subjecting works to lengthy and hugely expensive materials analysis, hoping a forger has made a tiny slip – a stray fiber, varnish made using ingredients that wouldn’t have been available in 16th-century Venice – the new technique is so powerful that it doesn’t even need access to the original work: A digital photograph will do. Even more striking, this method is aided by artificial intelligence. A technology whose previous contributions to art history have consisted of some bizarre sub–Salvador Dalís might soon be able to make the tweed-wearing art valuers look like amateurs.
At least that’s the theory, says Ahmed Elgammal, PhD, whose team at Rutgers has developed the new process, which was made public late last year. “It is still very much under development; we are working all the time. But we think it will be a hugely valuable addition to the arsenal.”
That theory is certainly intriguing. Instead of obsessing over materials, the new technique takes a hard look at the picture itself: Specifically, the thousands of tiny individual strokes that compose it.
Every single gesture – shape, curvature, the velocity with which a brush- or pencil-stroke is applied – reveals something about the artist who made it. Together, they form a telltale fingerprint. Analyze enough works and build up a database, and the idea is that you can find every artist’s fingerprint. Add in a work you’re unsure about, and you’ll be able to tell in minutes whether it’s really a Matisse or if it was completed in a garage in Los Angeles last week. You wouldn’t even need the whole work; an image of one brushstroke could give the game away.
“Strokes capture unintentional process,” explains Elgammal. “The artist is focused on composition, physical movement, brushes – all those things. But the stroke is the telltale sign.”
The paper Elgammal and his colleagues November 13, 2017 examined 300 authentic drawings by Picasso, Matisse, Egon Schiele, and a number of other artists and broke them down into more than 80,000 strokes. Machine-learning techniques refined the data set for each artist; forgers were then commissioned to produce a batch of fakes. To put the algorithm though its paces, the forgeries were fed into the system. When analyzing individual strokes, it was over 70% accurate; when whole drawings were examined, the success rate increased to over 80% . (The researchers claim 100% accuracy “in most settings.”)
The researchers are so confident that they included images of originals and fakes alongside each other in the published paper, daring so-called experts to make up their own minds. (Reader, I scored dismally.) One of Elgammal’s colleagues, Dutch painting conservator Milko den Leeuw, compares it to the way we recognize family members: They look similar, but we’re just not sure why. “Take identical twins,” he says. “Outsiders can’t separate them, but the parents can. How does that work? It’s the same with a work of art. Why do I recognize that this is a Picasso and that isn’t?”
The idea of fingerprinting artists via their strokes actually dates back to the 1950s and a technique developed by Dutch art historian Maurits Michel van Dantzig. Van Dantzig called his approach “pictology”, arguing that because every work of art is a product of the human hand, and every hand is different, it should be possible to identify authorship using these telltale strokes.
The problem, though, was that there was too much data. Even a simple drawing contains hundreds or even thousands of strokes, all of which needed to be examined by the human eye and catalogued. Multiply that by every work, and you see how impractical it was.
“It just wasn’t possible to test it,” says den Leeuw, who first became aware of pictology as a student. “I saw many attempts, but mostly it ended in ideas that would never be.”
But can AI now do what humans failed to, and give an art historian’s trained eye some sort of scientific basis? “Exactly,” says den Leeuw. “Very often it’s a gut feeling. We’re trying to unpick the mystery.”
Though Mass says she’s unlikely to throw out her fluorescence gun just yet, she admits to being impressed. “A lot of people in the field are excited by AI It’s not a magic bullet, but it’ll be another tool. And it’s really valuable when you’re dealing with a sophisticated forger who’s got everything else right – paint, paper, filler, all the materials.”
There are issues. So far, the system has been tested mainly on drawings from a handful of artists and a brief time period. Paintings, which generally contain thousands more strokes, are a tougher challenge; older paintings, which might contain numerous layers of restoration or overpainting, are tougher still. “It’s challenging, but it doesn’t mean we can’t do it,” Elgammal says. “I’m confident.”
What about style, though, particularly where an artist changes over time? Think of Picasso’s wildly varying periods – blue, African, cubist, classical – or how in the 1920s Malevich abandoned the elemental abstraction of his black squares for figurative portraits that could almost have been painted by Cézanne (pressure from Stalin was partly responsible).
Another expert, Charles R Johnson, who teaches computational art history at Cornell, is less persuaded – not so much by the AI as by the assumptions that lie behind it. “A big problem is that strokes are rarely individualized,” he says. “Overlap is difficult to unravel. Plus, one must understand the artist’s style changes over their career in order to make a judgment.”
In addition, Johnson argues, many artist’s brushwork is essentially invisible, making it impossible to unpick; it might be better to focus computer analysis on assessing canvases or paper, which can be more rigorously verified. “I remain quite skeptical,” he says.
Elgammal and den Leeuw concede there’s a way to go. Currently they’re working on impressionist paintings – infinitely more complex than Schiele and Picasso line drawings – and hope to publish the results next year. Even with the drawings, the machine can’t yet be left to learn on its own; often the algorithms require human tweaking to make sure the right features are being examined. Artists whose output isn’t large enough to create a reliable data set are also a challenge.
Asking Elgammal if he’s worried about being sued. He laughs, slightly nervously. “That’s something I think about.”
It’s a reasonable question, particularly pressing given the number of fakes that are circulating: What if your database accidentally becomes contaminated? Many people argue that the art market is hopelessly corrupt – so much so that some economists doubt whether calling it a “market” is even fair. Could the algorithm become skewed and go rogue?
“It’s like any system,” Mass agrees. “Garbage in, garbage out.”
Does she think that’s a possibility? How many fakes are out there? “Put it this way,” Mass says, “when I go into auction houses – maybe not the big ones, but smaller, local ones – I think ‘buyer beware.’ It might be between 50 and 70% .”
Rival solutions are coming down the road. Some have proposed using blockchain technology to guarantee provenance – the history of who has owned a work. Others have called for much greater transparency. Everyone agrees that the system is broken; some kind of fix is urgent.
Of course, there are big philosophical questions here. When someone goes to the effort of finding exactly the right 17th-century canvas, dons an antique smock, and paints a near-flawless Franz Hals, it should perhaps make us reconsider what we mean by the words “real” or “fake”, let alone the title of “artist”. Yet the irony is inescapable. It is hard to think of something more human than art, the definition of our self-expression as a species. But when it comes down to it, humans aren’t actually that good at separating forged and authentic in a painting that has all the hallmarks of, say, a Caravaggio but is merely a stunt double. Relying on our eyes, we simply can’t tell one twin from the other. We might even ask: Why do we care?
Forget cars that pilot themselves or Alexa teaching herself to sound less like the robot she is – AI seems to understand the secrets of artistic genius better than we do ourselves.
The irony is that, while machines might not yet might be able to make good art, they are getting eerily good at appreciating it. “Yes, it’s true,” he says thoughtfully. “When it comes to very complex combinations of things, humans are really not so good.” He laughs. “We make too many mistakes.”

He didn't care about the rumours that followed. If Santi was indeed a SIGHIR or had Sighir employees, so be it. Assassinations on public figures were out of the question, they couldn't happen.
He thought this was the Skeleton Crew, again. They'd managed to do their heist without alarming anyone, nobody with inside information. Chances were that they'd done it again.
He walked into the NIGHT MARKET because he knew if he were to find the contractor of the assassin anywhere, it would be here. The Market itself felt almost deserted... perhaps the whole city was on edge.

Here, as promised, are more details on what will await you in Shadowrun: Neon Fire!
The game will begin with character creation. Rather than fiddling around with numbers at this stage, the game will simply ask you a series of questions about the character that you want to play, and will generate you a starting character sheet and gear based on your answers. Later, you’ll earn Karma points, and have regular opportunities to spend them on upgrading your character’s Skills and Attributes as you choose.
You’ll be asked to set your character’s gender, real name and street name. You’ll also choose your metatype (human, ork, elf, dwarf, troll), which will have a slight effect on your starting Attributes. You’ll also be able to choose what kind of runner you want to be. Options are:
Shaman (magic user who specializes in spirit summoning, and has a selectable Mentor Spirit)
Mage (magic user who specializes in spellcasting, and has a selectable spell type affinity)
Adept (magic user who uses magic to enhance their physical attributes)
Rigger (expert vehicle and drone specialist)
Decker (can enter the Matrix in VR and do cool hacky shit)
Street Sam (a combat specialist, probably cybernetically enhanced).
This will have a big impact on your starting sheet. Also, you can choose a background. It’s fixed that your character was born into a privileged corporate family, the child of execs, but Something Happened, which resulted in them falling into the shadows, and you get to choose what. Selectable backgrounds include disgraced Lone Star detective, disgraced Mitsuhama exec, disgraced ex-Mitsuhama military (are you seeing a pattern yet?), rebel who got caught up in gang life, or one or two others. This will have a moderate effect on your starting stats.
Once you have a character, you’ll be thrown right into the Prologue. Here, you’ll be teaming up with your established crew in Seattle (rigger Porkchop, street sam Kurt, shaman Catspaw and decker Jackp0int) for what should be a simple job. The Prologue is mostly meant to introduce players to the world, to what shadowrunners do, and to the major rules and systems. At the end of this “milk run”, you’ll discover that you’ve received a message from your long-estranged sibling. They have discovered troubling things about your mother’s death years earlier, things which they think you should know. They also believe that they’re in danger. They want you to go out and meet them. In Neo-Tokyo.
Act 1 follows your arrival in Neo-Tokyo and your attempt to reconnect with your sibling. It doesn’t go smoothly. Soon you’re on the run from powerful but mysterious enemies, and on the trail of dangerous knowledge. You fall into the claws of Endo-san, a shady but powerful fixer, who promises to help you figure out what’s happening, in return for you working for him. And so you come to be part of a new runner crew, alongside new fellow runners whose respect you need to earn fast. (And maybe more than respect, too: your new crew are all romanceable!)
Act 2 (by far the largest chunk of the game) sees you living the life of a Neo-Tokyo runner, taking on jobs from a range of shady clients, attempting a variety of different run types, often incorporating difficult moral choice, drawing deeply on Shadowrun’s outstanding and deep lore, and going up against memorable and distinct enemy factions. At the same time, you’ll undertake special assignments from Endo-san which will advance the main plot and help you get to the bottom of the mess that your sibling has stirred up.
Act 2 will also introduce your all-singing, all-dancing new hub, Ameya-Yokocho Market. Here, between missions, you’ll be able to do a whole bunch of stuff. This is where you’ll level up. You can also hang out with your fellow runners here, getting to know them and maybe pursuing a romance. You’ll be able to hit your safehouse computer to keep up with your messages, check the media to inform yourself of current affairs, sell loot and paydata, and review your currently available missions. You can shop for delicious new gear. You can pick up small side-quests which can net you cash, store discounts, or juicy, juicy lore-drops. You can get to know the denizens of the Market and learn their secrets.

A 25-year-old man with a criminal history was arrested and charged with a hate crime for allegedly firing BB pellets at a Jewish father and son outside a kosher Staten Island market over the weekend, police announced Tuesday.
Jason Kish was charged with assault as a hate crime, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child over the Sunday attack that came amid a rash of Anti-Semitic hate crimes across the Big Apple.
Kish allegedly drove past the pair, who were wearing yamulkas and other traditional Jewish garbs, and fired shots from the driver’s side window, police said. The duo was returning a shopping cart in front of the Kosher Island market in Meiers Corners when they were attacked.
Surveillance video captured the moment the 7-year-old boy was clipped in the ear. He ducks, covers his head and looks at his father in confusion. His father, who was struck in the chest, lets go of the cart and tends to his son as the drive-by shooter speeds off. They were both treated for minor injuries.
Police began canvassing for Kish’s Mustang as soon as the crime was reported, Detective bureau chief Michael Baldassano said Tuesday. Kish was pulled over about an hour into the search, ID’d and released.
After reviewing the security footage of the shooting and comparing it to bodycam footage of Kish being pulled over, police realized both Mustangs had the same distinctive marking, Baldassano said.
Ring footage taken from a home a few blocks away from the kosher market also captured Kish allegedly holding a pellet gun out the window of his mustang.
“A father and son, simply going to the store to buy groceries for their families, like I did the day before in my neighborhood, were shot at by someone who was acting — we believe and we will allege in court — out of hatred,” Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon said at a press conference Tuesday.
“And while we thank God that no one was seriously injured, this violent incident underscores the alarming increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes that we see, and from its rhetoric, in our country, in our city, in our state.”
Anti-Semitic hate crimes jumped 125% in November compared to the same month last year, stats show.
There have been 278 reported anti-Semitic attacks this year, a 52.7% increase from the same period last year, NYPD data shows.
“You have to think about the impact of this,” Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday. “No severe injury, but emotionally the severity is real.”
“That young man may never walk that street again without thinking about that incident.”
Kish has had other run-ins with the law; he’s been previously charged with petty larceny and menacing.
Adams encouraged New Yorkers to not only report crimes and provide information to police, but to create posters to show that the city is against discrimination.
“We are not going to allow hate to run our city,” Adams said.

PASAY, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- Holidays are getting closer for Filipinos! Shopper enthusiasts are in need by being an absolute, strong caution, when making or planning to purchase Christmas lights and decorations, be it an early purchase or even a normal schedule later next month.
This caution follows after recent events of the 'International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week' (ILPPW), runs from Sunday thru Saturday last weekend (October 20th to 26th, 2024). The theme titled "Bright Futures begin Lead-free" focuses on educating people, about its harmful effects of lead exposure, particularly individuals of the youth. It pushes for the public to take meaningful steps to eliminate lead from products, especially those related to festive decorations.
Results came in (much slightly late than usual) from a toxic watchdog group 'BAN Toxics' in Pasay City, National Capital Region; have shown that high levels of lead are detected in some Christmas lights and ornaments sold in the country (or so-called decorations as stated there). Lead is a known neurotoxin that poses severe health risks in the case of children's exposure. Exposure to heavy levels of lead can completely damage the brain and even the central nervous system resulting in symptoms like coma and convulsions, possibly leading to death. At this time of the festivity season, when families collect together and children are apt to come into contact with these illicit decor-related products, when its danger levels are especially alarming.
During the weekend, while conducting market monitoring, 'BAN Toxics' discovered that several of the holiday lights sold in bargain and wholesale stores, who were lacked proper labeling and safety certifications. Some of these products had shown levels of lead from as low as 10,800 parts per million (ppm) to an eye-opening 100,000 ppm, many thousands of times over the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive limit of 1,000 ppm. With a view to such products passing their naked eye tests, all these raise serious concerns related to the safety of products.
To guide consumers and help them determine safe holiday products, BBAN Toxics urges consumers to check if there is a legit Philippine Standard (PS) license and the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker of products. Holiday lights are to be inspected for cracks and tears in the wiring, raising the danger of electric shock or fire hazard. As always, one should not be too reckless and hasty in buying products lacking safety marks.
In light of these findings, BAN Toxics is calling on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to take immediate action within the coming weeks. They ask DTI to do early post-market monitoring and testing of such lights sold in the market. Moreover, it recommends the government agency by start issuing a thorough list of approved Christmas lights, so guides buyers in deciding to make the proper choices in buying. With this, only safe products would be made available in the market today, and thus the DTI can help protect families from the hidden dangers of lead and other toxic substances, especially defectives that only last for a few years in every season.
